Sorry I have missed the update. My wife was in a minor car accident on friday. She is okay but the accident agravated a earlier neck injury, and she has been in a lot of pain. I have been busy helping her out.

Thane lagged after the group just long enough to ensure that the mule was securely tied so it couldn't wander away. Then sword in hand he ran after the others.

So, your group was attacked by spiders? There was an explosion, and then the building collapsed with your friends inside? The northern barbarian asked Azghaad. Unless they were very lucky, I fear your friends are already dead and we are not equiped to recover their bodies. The voices of the spire will need to be informed of what happened.

Someone will have to go and bring the Pharasmins here. Thane said looking towards the dropping sun. There isn't much time left before the sun goes down. . . .It looks like we aren't going to get into our site today. He said sheathing his bastard sword and taking the shovel from Azghaad. Thane started to dig in the place Azghaad was digging before though at a slower pace.

Quote:
"I'm sorry. So sorry."

"No. Not yet! We might still be able to save them!"

---
Azghaad spoke as he shoveled
"It was a flour mill. I think the spells that moved the sand disturbed the flour. The spider was inside, and was coated in flour. It got Tissle. I only realised the dust in the air was flour as the fire started... I'd heard flour explodes, sometimes. The whole building..." he paused, apparently staring at some vista in his head "I've seen what an incendiary evocation can do - this was worse. The building bulged outwards, then it just... sunk down. Into this sinkhole. The sand ran down around it. I tried to dig them out with my hands..."

He pauses, and resumes "I should have worked it out sooner."

---

Azghaad, exhausted, hands over the shovel.
"I'm sorry about your site. If I can make it up to you, I will. Should I go for the Pharasmins? I may be the fastest... but... I don't want to leave them."

Akbar finally made eye contact with Naomi. "Supposedly, Cheliax was some great empire once. Something went wrong, I guess. F~~@ers worship the devil. And all halflings are slaves. I ...got out. At great cost. It is ...hard for me to ...trust bal--humans."

ooc: Guys, I want to recap tonight but I need to know what/where to next.

It's around early afternoon so options include:
a) go back to tomb (Azghaad join?);
b) go back to town and come back tomorrow (same question); or
c) other?

Questions?

(c) getting the Pharasmins was mentioned. With luck (and gold) they might be convinced to help dig out the dead.
If people want to leave now, Azghaad might take some convincing that he's not leaving his group to die. They're not amazing friends or anything, but he's not the sort of man who leaves comrades to die. There are first level spells that'd leave someone alive for a few minutes even entombed alive: and I think we're still in the round counting stage.
If we're talking fifteen or twenty minutes later, when hope has died and adrenaline has worn off you might get a different answer.
That said, I don't want to screw everyone up, and I know this was an 'unscheduled stop'.
Azghaad is a bit worried about going alone in the Necropolis: he has reason to think there are giant vermin in this complex; and while they may normally be "leave them alone and they leave you alone", something (perhaps the sudden activity and tomb robbing) convinced those scorpions to go out hunting. He'll go with the group.
This also means he's not keen to hang around her after dark when invertebrates typically start hunting.

male Human Barbarian 2

honestly, I am not sure what to do now. Good aligned Characters can't go off treasure hunting and leave people buried alive. We would need to find out for sure that the buried party are dead before we could continue. Maybe you could have one of the Pharasmin in the party cast a spell to discover if they are still alive. (Pharasmins should have a spell like that. you don't want to go burying someone that isn't dead.)
I think we almost have to call it a day and come back in the morning. If we had gotten into out tomb I was thinking of just forting up and fighting undead all night, but now it is better that we head out. Boram will turn yellow and Azghaad take his place. That is the only way I can come up with to get us back on track.

I agree, this feels like something that should be reported.

Naomi walks up and wraps surprisingly strong arms around Azghaad, hugging him. "Perhaps, but I think the Lady had judged that it is their time. Let us go back to the Grand Mausoleum. This is an accident that needs to be reported. The priests will see if your friends can be recovered. It is beyond our abilities."

OOC: That's fine. I just wanted some sort of decision made so I don't feel like I'm railroading you. I'll have the group go back for the day. I'll leave it open to roleplay the evening's activities (including talking to Boram and Azhgaad) and then I'll conclude with you guys right back at the tomb. This will assume that Azghaad is accepted.

I'll recap tonight but feel free to start roleplaying the events of later this evening if you wish.

Male Half-elf Cleric 2

Sorry I'm late to the party and that this post doesn't really advance anything.

Rubani wasn't going anywhere. Anywhere other than down, that is. The half-elf remained in the hollow left in the sand, with Thane, and just kept digging. He worked slowly and methodically, brows tightly knit, trying not to let the sand sink in any further. There was no point in hurrying this task. No point at all. Because Rubani was quite sure that the young Azghaad's team members were dead.
He wasn't sure how he knew this though. It was just a gut feeling.

No, it isn't, you silly little man. It's experience. After all, you've seen this before.

Ah. Yeah. That might be it. The cave-in. Rubani's father had died in a collapsed mine shaft. Heck, that cave-in had been the death of his entire village. It was abandoned soon after. The bodies of the miners were never recovered.
Well, not this time. He wasn't a child this time. He was strong. And he wasn't leaving to get the help of the Pharasmins or the priests either. Because he was a Pharasmin himself. And he was a priest, damn it. When they arrived here the only thing they would do, could do, was jump into this hole and start digging alongside him. Might as well get a head start. Right. That would make this quicker. Right?

Is that what they would do? Or would they simply declare this sinkhole a new grave for the newest occupants of the Necropolis? Would they retrieve the bodies so that they might be delivered to their families? Or would they demand reparations from said families for the damage caused to the Necropolis by the deceased? The half-elf didn't even know anymore. He had come to Wati to find enlightenment in the city dedicated to his deity, but he had never felt more out of touch with his own church. It was this damned lottery. It went against everything he had been taught as a Pharasmin. Government pressure or not, how could the church have agreed to this travesty?

Stop it. It's not really the church that's frustrating you. It's guilt. And you know why.

... Yeah. Yeah, he knew. It was because he was a cleric. A cleric that had decided to dedicate his life to serving the people through the Lady of Graves' teachings. So why? Why in the holy name of Pharasma herself had he been more worried about these dusty graves than about the people descending into them?!
Here he was, enrolled in this foolish lottery because he wanted to protect the ancient memorials from grave robbers. But it was Naomi who had had it right all along. He shouldn't have worried about what the living could do to the Necropolis; he should have feared what the Necropolis could do to the living. All his nasty thoughts about "foreign opportunists" here to steal Osirion's cultural heritage... In being more concerned about the explorers, rather than for them, he had let his xenophobia and nationalism get the better of him. And now innocents were dead.

And he had proven what a stupid young novice cleric he really was.

Rubani did the only thing he could and kept digging.

You don't have to worry about adding this in the recap, Fabian. I realize it's out of place and not really relevant.

Actually it's a very good post and I will of course add it to the recap. Posts that give insight into a character are always good. I'll move the game along later tonight.

Wow Rubani; that was a great post!

Azghaad stiffened in the hug, but after a moment he sighed and drooped dejectedly.
A while later he straightens
"I suppose there is no hope after this long. The sand cascaded down like an ant lion trap."
Stepping back
"I apologise for panicking. Losing people is a new experience for me. I don't much like it."

"I will go report this, now. Maybe they can help. If anyone has influence with the guards - or the Masuoleum - I would appreciate your help."

Not sure if this is okay
tried to leave vague if anyone else was there - we've had a confirmation of death (funeral) from the clerics of the goddess of death, so seems like something someone should do.

Majet's innkeeper didn't know of any family, and seemed more concerned over whether he could sell her remaining goods before her credit ran out.

Blackscale's Ulfen girlfriend screamed, then cried, then threatened to kill Azghaad, then cried again and told the wizard to get out.

Akina's nunnery took the news well. The heirophant thanked him for the news. Azghaad thought he heard sobbing when the door closed behind him, but he didn't turn back.

Tissle's family was last. That was the one he was dreading. Telling the alchemist's happy little family - who he'd only seen briefly - that their father was not coming home.

He paused outside their door, hearing the sound of the children. Smelling the dinner made to welcome their heroic patriarch back from a glorious day of archaeology. The excitement in the children's voices as they wondered what papa had found.

Tissle - ever the loving dad - had dragged cheap but ancient carved dolls into the dig because he couldn't bear to disappoint his children, and was smart enough to know there were no guarantees. Those toys now lay buried with their father.

Azghaad had a glimpse of understanding then into multiple world theory. Those inside the house did not know what had happened to Tissle. They existed in an indeterminate state, multiple possibilities all possible. The moment Azghaad knocked on the door that changed. Every moment he waited was another moment they had not lost their father. Their husband.

Paralyzed, he waited at the door, staff raised to knock. It seemed forever.

The door opened. Tissle's wife - he didn't even know her name - looked at him curiously, then craned her head around to look for her husband.

He could see the looks on her face. Annoyance at Tissle's lateness. Surprise Azghaad was there. Curiosity as she looked around for her husband. Puzzlement as she peered out of the doorway. Fear when she didn't see her love. Then, when she saw the confirmation of her fear on Azghaad's face, something else. A look that would haunt him. Devestation.

"I'm sorry..." started Azghaad, as the widow collapsed in the doorway like a puppet whose strings were cut.

This is very good! I'll also leave it open enough so people could come along if desired.

Tissle's widow sort of sat down on the floor, tears welling up in her eyes. She was soon joined by two pint-sized girls. The 5-year old twins spoke as a matter of fact.

"Mommy, it's OK if daddy's not coming for dinner." The other girl, with a little ponytail, "Yeah, he said he was looking for the mummy doll, whatever that was. I told him we have plenty of dolls."

Their mom just hugged them closer but one of them pulled away. Barely up to Azghaad's knee, she looked up, "Mister, will you tell my father to come back quickly when you see him. Mommy's not feeling well." She cocked her head in question, "Did he find the mummy doll?"

I know this type of world-building gaming may be new and different to some of you so I'll show what I mean by setting up a scene. It doesn't have to be an essay so don't be daunted by the task. Just describe/show the setting, set the actors, and have one 'actor' take the lead and make an open-ended question. Then the rest of us will jump in. if you want to write more, that's great so don't let me stifle your creativity but what you see below is sufficient.

BACK AT THANE'S

It was a very different alchemist that ambulated in Thane's home. He hadn't even tried to help in the kitchen or give Thane's wife any cooking tips.

Sarenei's mother loom punctuated the silence. The mood was solemn and even Sarenei's usual chirpy mood was contained. It finally hit home that this was a dangerous venture they had signed up for.

Boram cleared his throat, "I... I don't think I'm interested enough in architecture to risk my life in there. I mean, look at all that happened and we didn't even get in yet."

He looked around the room, cringing at what his 'partners' would say but quickly added, ""I can still support the group. Make things for you. I can do that. You guys OK with this?"

male Human Barbarian 2

Thane was greatfull that Boram had not tried to help with the cooking like he had the evening before but was disturbed by the irrepressable halflings change in demeanor.

Don't worry friend Boram. Dog sized scorpions are scary enough when your my size. I imagine they are absolutely terrifying as small as you are. You had a close call today so I can't blame you for wanting to find a little safer work for a while. You might consider going and visiting Namrut again. The man has hundreds of contacts here in Wati he maybe able to put you in touch with someone that can use your talents. Turning to the others Thane said So we are down one member. What do you all think of sounding out that fancy dressed fellow we met in the Necropolis. He is in need of a group now, and the way he roasted those scorpions could be useful.

Guys, Akbar's player and I came to the conclusion that this wasn't the type of game that agreed with his playing style so we split ways. As for Akbar, let's just assume that he alleged that he needed to attend to personal matters and would join the rest of the group later at Thane's. Akbar never shows up (we'll figure out what happened to him later as the story develops). I've contacted a couple of players to see if they want (have time and desire) to join our party (back to 5 players). If you know of anyone that would be a good fit for this type of game, please have them contact me. Game on!

OOC: Pretty easy to see how someone might be shaken enough by the events of the collapse and death of Azghaad's companions to disappear quietly back into their former life. Perhaps we will catch a glimpse of him again later in the campaign.

When Azghaad tried to bid the group adieu to deliver the terrible news to the friends and family of his former companions, the priestess felt a pull. It was one she had felt before. The Lady telling her this was her duty too, even if she didn't know any of the victims. These people would need comfort and while comfort was not something she felt a calling to, this was probably the Lady of Graves telling her this was something she would need practice with. She shuddered at the thought.

Each stop brought its own twist on pain. Each worse than the last. But she thought Tissel's would break her. As much pain as she had suffered in training for the Voices of the Spire, this was the worst. She didn't even know these people and there mere act of trying to summon words felt worse than the heaviest hammer blow she had ever taken to her delicate frame. Tears welled up in her eyes as she looked at the young girls wondering if she should speak or wait for the mother, then deciding "Little ones. I am Naomi. Have your father and mother ever taken you to the Grand Mausoleum?" She fingers her holy symbol, tracing the spiral and presenting it to make it easier for the girls to see.

Azghaad looked gratefully at Naomi.

A short life spent mostly in contemplation of Magic's mysteries had left him with no experience in how to tell children half their world had ended.
Thank Nethys I had a Pharasmin Death priest with me. he thought, all too happy to let Naomi deal with the girls.

The girls didn't quite know what to make of the question. "I'm sorry misses but my mommy doesn't want us to go nowhere with strangers." She looked at her mother still crying and added, "And she's not feeling too good right now so I'm not going to ask again. Say, did you work with my father too?"

BTW, I made contact with another player who will write up a character shortly and I'll introduce her as quickly as possible. I want this done before the group goes inside the tomb because it may take a few weeks of real time to explore that.

Let's finish roleplaying Boram saying goodbye and the group discussing Azghaad (without him being present). Basically following up what Thane started above. I will then set up another scene where you all meet with Azghaad and the new player and discuss the group's rules and other pertinent info.

Azghaad, feel free to set up another scene and I'll intervene for the NPCs (if you want).

male Human Barbarian 2

No no one is going to talk to me. They don't like me =(

Male Half-elf Cleric 2

Gods above, this really is just like how it happened back then.

Having finally been convinced by the Pharasmins that trying to dig up the corpses was a futile effort, Rubani had instead joined their impromptu funeral ceremony. He watched Azghaad and Naomi leave to tell the next of kin what became of their loved ones and admired their strength in volunteering to do so. Well, "strength" might not quite be the word. Perhaps they simply saw it as their duties. Perhaps the two added up to the same in the end.
Rubani turned his attention back to the ceremony. Care for the living, tend to the dead. That was the Pharasmin way.

Back at Thane's, things were quiet. Perhaps oppressively so, as the members of the Grave Guard each contemplated the newly realized gravity of their mission, but the half-elf appreciated it nonetheless. He just wanted to watch the loom spin its threads for a bit. When the silence was broken by an unusually timid Boram, Rubani listened and supported his decision.

"I... I don't think I'm interested enough in architecture to risk my life in there. I mean, look at all that happened and we didn't even get in yet."

"Neither would I want you to meet your fate for the sake of some decayed edifice. We understand, friend. Had we half the sense you do we would all do the same, I'm sure," he smiled.

"So we are down one member. What do you all think of sounding out that fancy dressed fellow we met in the Necropolis. He is in need of a group now, and the way he roasted those scorpions could be useful."

"If... If he is still set on exploring the Necropolis, then yes. He seems a good man, and having him join up could be the metaphorical stone that kills the figurative two birds."

Sorry for being so late, people. But, you know... christmas. Those snowmen aren't gonna build themselves. That food ain't gonna eat itself. And those boys are never gonna grow up to be men unless I kick their asses in snowball fights.

BTW, what's everyone holiday schedule looking like?

Azghaad looked haggard, his eyes tired; but his clothes were immaculate.

"I had thought I was ready when I left the Academy - but I have never seen death like this. The Lessons talked about the necessity of perseverance in the face of adversity, and overcoming trials. Now I start to see what they meant."

"I want to thank all of you for your help. Not just for trying to help dig out my team - it seems even together we lacked the power to help them in time - but for helping me say sane."

He smiled a tired but grateful smile at the team, with a special nod for Naomi.

"Naomi - thank you for your help with people. You must have done this before."

"Boram - I hope you are feeling better."

"Rubani - you were untiring in your efforts. I am not sure where you found the strength."

"Thane - thank your for your strength. Is this your house?"

I'm enjoying it - it's making Azghaad a bit deeper. Trying to get the feel for tagging. Sorry if it is clumsy, but hopefully I've taged Naomi, Rubani and Thane.
I'm not away over christmas, so should be okay, but I do live in Australia (it's 2pm my time)

Realising the unusualness of this offer for a comparative stranger he explains

I think this is a Tag. Pharasma is the goddess of fate and death, right? Do her priests want to weigh in on the whole 'just chance' thing?

"Obviously I would need to explain this to the local Clan, but if Tissle's family truly are without support I would assume they would either understand it was an act of charity and approve it, or be shamed into adopting her themselves."
"I suppose I could offer her a job in the Household, but I've no real need for extra servants, and then who would look after her children? Plus, of course, if I do not wish to cause inter-Clan problems I really cannot stay her more than a month or two before I move on."

Male Half-elf Cleric 2

As Azghaad entered the Blackwolf residence Rubani was struck by the haggard look of the young wizard. He wasn't altogether surprised; in his role as mortician the half-elf had noted the effect death had on those closest to the deceased. Souls rarely departed this plane without taking a little of their loved ones with them - just another reason he had taken up the mantle of the cleric. Relaying the news of the deaths could not have been easy.
Rubani's empathy for the wizard was only strengthened as the man then thanked the party for their meager assistance.

"Rubani - you were untiring in your efforts. I am not sure where you found the strength."

"From whatever pool you drew the fortitude to see the newly made widows and orphans, I'm sure. You owe me no thanks, my friend. You did well."

The cleric was about to approach the subject he and Thane had just discussed, that of recruiting Azghaad for the party, when he was distracted by the appearance of an unknown woman in the doorway. At Naomi's prompting she introduced herself.

"My name is Shalina. My uncle sent me here on business."

Rubani's first thought was that she was some acquaintance of the master and mistress of the house, but the woman was clearly addressing the party as a whole.

"Business? What business would this be? And who is your sterling uncle?"

Welcome to the game, dude.

Shalina gave the half-elf a teasing pout, "I had thought the family resemblance was obvious but apparently not. I know my skin is a little lighter having a northerner for a mother but I have been told that I look most like my father who looks quite like my uncle... Shalina could see that realization was dawning on some faces while others started looking slightly irked. Why it is Uncle Namrut, of course!

Shalina became serious as she got down to business. "I am afraid that Akbar is unable to make it. My uncle had heard through his information network that a past dealing had caught up with Akbar which has...tied him up so-to-speak. Uncle obviously wants to protect his investment and knew that you would need extra help and so he has sent me to you.

Thane controled his fury at the young woman barging into his home uninvited with difficulty. He had been living in Wati for several years but some of the native peoples customs still confused him. She had brought a gift, and didn't not seem to mean anyone any harm, but Thane deliberately moved to place himself in between the stranger and his Wife and mother-in-law.

I didn't even know the old bastard had a brother Thane growled as he realized that the girl was not a threat. Everyone please make yourselves comfortable. I think we have a lot to discuss tonight.

That is unfortunate. Should we go help him, or is this a matter we would be wiser to stay clear of. Thane asked as he settled cross legged on to one of the cushions. I was fairly sure of what skills Akbar was bringing to the group. Why don't both of you tell us how you can improve our chances of success.

Tag Shalina and Azghaad. Sorry this took so long entire family got sick over Christmas and I haven't had time to write anything until now.

No problem, I hope everything is OK. Holidays are kind of hectic anyway. On that note, I will recap late tonight because I'll be traveling from Tuesday to Saturday. I will be able to read along and provide short posts as necessary but definitely won't be able to recap.

Hate to have to do this but, Unfortunately I am no longer able to participate in the game. I hate doing this. There really isn't a nice way to say it but my wife is jealous of the time I spend gaming. Sorry to just leave like this, but my marriage is more important to me than the game. I took a break several months ago for the same reason, but I guess taking a break wasn't enough. Sorry for the inconvenience my departure causes, and hope you all have a good game. Thanks.

Well, this is unfortunate but I understand. Thanks for letting me know.

Only two players remain out of the original five. I was hoping my game was a little bit better than that. :)

All kidding aside, I really want to tell this story and I'm here for the long run. You can ask Shalina's player who currently is in another game of mine that has been going on for 2.5 years and still going strong.

I've asked one of the other players who had originally applied to see if he wants to join and we'll wait for his answer before opening up the recruitment thread.

Story wise, it's getting a bit convoluted trying to justify members leaving the 'Grave Guard' but we'll play our cards as best we can.

Any questions or other people leaving?

Game on!

Ok, turn 012 is up.

Read the OOC.

Questions, comments, and/or suggestions?

Remember that I will be traveling/out of town until Saturday but 'should' be able to post.

Happy New Year!

Ref: The barbarian nodded. “That is unfortunate. Should we go help him, or is this a matter we would be wiser to stay clear of?” Thane asked as he settled cross legged on to one of the cushions. “I was fairly sure of what skills Akbar was bringing to the group. Why don't both of you tell us how you can improve our chances of success.”

ic: Shalina snorted at Thane’s first comment. “You could help him but I wouldn’t. Apparently there is a lesson that Akbar needs to learn and it may take some time.” She paused as she thought about the barbarian’s next request. “As for me, I was born and raised here in Wati and have grown up studying its history and learning about its many mysteries. I’ve also been working for my uncle for the last few years by acquiring items for his collection. I would hope that his confidence in my abilities would convince you of my usefulness.”

Thane: if you see this, I'm sorry to see you go.

I thought this one was easy; Thane has a family. He or they decide he shouldn't risk his life out in the Necropolis.

Edit: yes, you did say this in the gameplay :)

"You'd have me in your group?"

Composing himself, the young mage gives what sounds like a well-rehearsed speech
"I am a priest of Nethys, a Wizard by training, and an initiate of the First Circle. I specialise in flame and fire magic but I am both versatile and powerful in the arcana I have mastered."
"My education is broad and deep, eclectic and esoteric. I speak six languages including Ancient Osirian. I have studied archaeology, engineering, geography and sociology. My knowledge of thaumaturgical theory rivals that of most Third Circle initiates!"
"I will slay our enemies with fire, find hidden magical auras, light our way and decipher our riddles!"

Looks like I will be joining you. Thanks GM for the invitation. It may take me a few days to get up to speed.

That almost sounds like "I am the very model of a modern major general".

Yes, that is what we will do with Thane. With Akhmose, we will have the dwarf inquiry for a group who 'respects' the tombs and he will have been directed to talk to the 'Grave Guard'. Right now, I'm leaning towards glossing over the new and old incorporations (assuming they happen this night) and have the group all together back exploring the tomb of Akenhtepi the next morning. If everyone is Ok with this, let's finish roleplaying this night and I'll recap on Saturday night.

Rubani was saddened to hear that not just Boram, but both halflings of the group would not be returning to the Necropolis. However much he wished them all the best and encouraged them to follow their own paths, he couldn't ignore the gaping hole their departure left in the party.

And yet it seemed that this hole could be filled almost immediately. Upon Thane's prompting Shalina and Azghaad proved willing to fill in the two so recently vacated spots. The barbarian would hear their about their skills first, though. There was no room for dead weight on this expedition. Rubani was also interested in the two's aptitude, but more so to reassure himself that they weren't putting themselves into any danger they weren't prepared for. There was no need for a repeat performance of today's trip.

Shalina confidently stated a certain expertise in all things related to Wati, and that she had worked alongside her uncle for a few years. Rubani couldn't help but wonder.

"Acquiring items", huh? Having met your uncle I suspect a few years of tutelage under him imparts valuable skills indeed.

Shalina could doubtlessly handle herself, but Rubani had to ponder if Namrut had sent his niece her to keep an eye on them. The group was supposed to find some goods for him after all.

The young mage Azghaad on the other hand was so earnest in his intent to join the team that Rubani couldn't possibly question him.

"I am a priest of Nethys, a Wizard by training, and an initiate of the First Circle."

Oh? Another man of the cloth for the group? That could be nice. Perhaps we share similar interests.

"I specialise in flame and fire magic but I am both versatile and powerful in the arcana I have mastered."

And then perhaps not. Sigh.

"My education is broad and deep, eclectic and esoteric. I speak six languages including Ancient Osirian. I have studied archaeology, engineering, geography and sociology. My knowledge of thaumaturgical theory rivals that of most Third Circle initiates!"

Just nod and look attentive, Rubani. Pretend that you have heard of Circles One through... however high they go. It makes it all simpler.

"I will slay our enemies with fire, find hidden magical auras, light our way and decipher our riddles!"

Rubani nodded. Well, he needn't worry about them getting hurt unduly. That was a relief. He knew nothing about Shalina, but considering his previous actions the half-elf saw Azghaad as a man of high character. So what could he say but:

"I would be happy to have you both join up. Your skills would be greatly appreciated. Oh, and uh..." he continued, suddenly realizing something.

"We've never been properly introduced, have we? My name is Rubani Madu, traveling cleric. Professional tourist, really. I..."

He stopped again. What in the world were his own qualifications?

"I'm a competent midwife."

I've got this all backwards, haven't I? I shouldn't be worrying about them. They should be worrying about me.

I'll be recapping tomorrow evening, at which time I'll have everyone (including new dwarf paladin PC) tomb exploring unless I hear otherwise...
