ooc: I want to recap tomorrow but I need to know what you will do after you exit the tomb (pretty much thoroughly explored).

Options include:
- back to Namrut with new treasure (take him in to tomb? now? later?)
- what to do with Akhentepi's 'charriot'
- head to Pharasmins to obtain second 'site'
- back to Tooth and Hookah
- other

sorry but I've been pretty busy. I wanted to respond to the snake wrangling but probably won't be able to before recap. Shalina will pretty much agree to whatever. I think we bring Namrut back sooner than later in case it gets sealed. Before leaving, Shalina would like to cast detect secret doors and then run through as much of the tomb as possible to see if they've missed something.

My thoughts in case I don't get to roleplay it...1. Back to Namrut with new treasure (but should probably discuss if we want to distribute any items among party members, that scale mail might be useful for several of us) 2. We could probably dismantle the chariot and bring that up, no? Would vote for that. 3. Head to Pharasmins for second site. I'm not in favor of bringing Namrut into tomb unless approved by Pharasmins. I'm not in favor of going back to Tooth & Hookah until evening (since we probably can start our second site).

OOC: Yeah, I'm with Shalina on taking an extra little tour through the place before we leave. Fabian may assume take 10s on Appraise checks throughout too, just in case there's something we've missed and to determine if hauling up the chariot is worth it. I'm gonna assume that taking the thing apart and rebuilding it requires some check although I have no idea which one. Knowledge Engineering? I defer to Akhmose on that one.

As for Namrut, I'm not sure how the church feels about us giving guided tours through the tomb so I think we should do that as soon as possible. Clear out the place, bring our stuff over to Namrut's, then bring him back to the tomb. Of course, he won't be left to wander around alone. Rubani ain't comfortable with that. Not least so because he wants to keep the man safe. Maybe we could get some RPing out of that. Rubani is interested in knowing what Namrut's interest is.
Of course, if Naomi really doesn't like the idea of this then that's that. The only reason Rubani is willing to show Namrut around is because he's really disillusioned with his own church at this point.

Tooth & Hookah? Pfft, not while I have Cures to cast. Let's go see about that second site. Azghaad and Akhmose's notes and the funerary mask should suffice as evidence that we've finished our first. The funerary mask in particular should prove that we've been to the bottom of that particular well.

And because Naomi is wondering about splitting the loot: I have a vague recollection of some system being in place. An even six way split, with the sixth part being a general party resource. There was also something about individual party members buying single pices of loot from the party for a marked down price if they want to keep it for themselves, but I can't find the source for this. Correct me if I'm wrong, Fabian.
Either way, I'm not too bothered. Rubani has no interest in the monetary rewards from this show. If this scale mail can keep any of his companions safe then he will dress you himself.

Azghaad is still interested in taking that mirror out, if he can work out how to move it without damaging it. Not sure what a 'thief-marking mirror' is worth in terms of party share if we do get it out. He's probably going to just donate it to a Nethian temple.
He's interested in collapsing Akentepi's burial chamber if it can be done safely (should give some protection for his bones) - assuming that will make Rubani and Naomi happy.
He's happy to give anyone a tour of the place. He's here at least in part because of scholarly curiosity, so he understands the drive in others.
He'll go with the party on the chariot.
Azghaad signed on based on that six way split. He'll want people reimbursed for what they spent so far (like alchemist's fire, the mule, etc). I (as a player) think that's probably too complicated to actually do, though, in which case he'll shrug and suggest starting up a kitty for future purchases.
Not much point being at the Tooth & Hookah when everyone else is out working.
He's happy to start hitting the second site: the first half of any job seems to be a lot of digging, so could get that started today. He's pretty sure the information he's after is in one of these tombs, but not sure which one. That makes him gung-ho.
On the other hand, he really wants to pore through those documents in good light, so he could go back to Namrut's and spend the day in studying.
If the group is going to be camping out at Namrut's (which makes sense) he'll want to start looking into renting a nearby house, or apartment, or something, so he can move in his people and himself. He heard stories of how rough the big city was, and what he's seen so far seems to bear that out.

Edit: We seem to be doing this OOC first. If we can find the points of conflict, that's probably where it's worth doing some roleplaying. Otherwise it's just a scene of everyone nodding furiously!

"The way I see it" explained Azghaad "It's going to take skilled laborers or prodigious magic to get the chariot and the mirror out without permanent damage." he looked around the dry, deserted city "I think hiring anyone to come out here is going to be interesting, or expensive, or both. That means magic. Magic means money. Lots of money."
"I guess the question is, 'is the money we spend getting them out and back to Namrut's going to be worth it'. For the chariot that's easy: what can we sell it for."
"For the mirror it is more complex. I doubt we're going to sell a magical trap, that obviously failed to work, on the open market. Possibly a collector might be interested - it's a fascinating piece. But I doubt we're going to make a profit on it. I'm interested, but I won't have a chance to really examine it until I return home."
"I'm inclined to say that if Namrut thinks we'll see a 300gp profit on the chariot, we bring it up. Any less than that probably isn't worth the effort."
"As for the mirror: I say we leave it here. I'll give you 50gp for the title, and if I can convince mo... my superiors to teleport out here and get it, then it's mine. Sound fair?"

When Namrut doesn't want the cobra in the house
"That IS probably fair. I'm a little worried about the chest holding myself. I'm sure there's a way to reprogram it somehow... but it could take a while. I'll give the group 100gp for it as is, and send it back home as a present. Otherwise we can call it group treasure and when I work out how to tame it so it can be sold we'll split it as normal. That'll mean buying a better cage, though, I think."
Azghaad will use the broken remains of the other snake to try to puzzle this one out

Actions 2
Azghaad waited impatiently as the office inhabitants had some argument over some... inconsequentiality.
Thank you Nethys that I'm, not actually standing here in real formal robes he prayed, absent minded as he waited.

Quote:
In a couple of minutes, the ornate hardwood door opened and two people came out, a stylish woman with a foppish hat and young wizard. They were clearly not in a good mood as they walked away. It was also clear that they were worshippers of Nethys by the necklace they both wore. Before anyone had a chance to say anything, they were asked inside the office.

Azghaad's head whipped around as he started at the ladies. He paused, shocked, then started to pivot just as they were called in.

Visibly torn between following his fellow Nethians and his colleagues he lost his opportunity, and reluctantly walked in to the office and opened his 'sketchbook'.
While there was no real style to Azghaad's drawings, they were exquisitely precise in their measurements.

Out of habit he wrote down the questions they were asked on another piece of paper. If he could work out what the Pharasmins wanted to know, then exploration could get much easier.

After they had recieved their next site (and not before) Azghaad asked "Who was in here before us, please. They had the look of fellow followers of the Way. It would be good to talk shop."

Hassan, the cleric, smiled and sighed at the same time, "Them. Nothing but trouble I'm afraid. They are part of an exploration much like yourselves. They call themselves 'the Scorched Hand'. They are not happy with their allotted exploration sites. They wanted to make a request."

He shook his head, "Not a request but rather demand that they get to explore something called the 'Erudite Eye'. I told them that the sites are assigned by lottery so they were... a little frustrated."

He looked at Azghaad, "Do you know them? Are you also requesting special priviliges?"

I'll get more dialogue as others chime in

"Hmm..." The half-elf put a hand to his smooth chin in thought.

"I have to admit that my interest in these artifacts corresponds to that of potential grave robbers. Heh. Irony... You say that it's going to take significant effort to salvage the mirror and chariot, and I agree. Too much effort, in fact, for the two to be of any interest to the average grave robber. As such I don't think they pose any future threat for the sanctity of the tomb, and that we could simply leave them in good conscience. The cumbersome nature of these items and the knowledge that Akhentepi's tomb has already served as an exploration site should keep it safe."

"That being said," he continued, addressing the whole party, "I'm not opposed to unearthing either relic, if any of you are adamant about their retrieval, and will help however I can."

Akhmose's offer to pay for the right to the mirror was waved away by the cleric. He could not sell what he felt he had no ownership in. Back at Namrut's the matter of the irate metal serpent became an urgent one. The merchant's concern was perfectly reasonable, but it seemed that the party would have to find a buyer themselves, sooner rather than later. Rubani couldn't imagine that this would be too hard. Surely there was a market for a thousand year old Ancient Osirian live construct. The serpent had value both historical and monetary. The cleric was largely ignorant of the arcane ways, but even he knew that constructs did not come cheap.

Shalina, I don't suppose you could whip up a Knowledge Local or Diplomacy check to find ourselves a buyer? It's gonna take us a few hours, but we do need to unload the thing somehow.

Having arrived in front of the Grand Mausoleum Rubani did not enter. This was his third day in Wati and he was yet to set foot inside the place, even though he had traveled to the city precisely because of its Pharasmin monuments. Now he just stared up at the magnificent structure and wondered if he could even enter in good faith. The last few days had given him such a distaste for the organized church that it left him wondering about his own position within the religion. And seeing as he had built his entire life around his religion the cleric was understandably left a bit perturbed. He sighed. The church's accountability in graves dessicated and explorers killed was a matter for another time. It shouldn't stop him from entering a Pharasmin temple. This magnificent building was dedicated to the deity, not the church. Rubani signed the spiral in front of himself and entered.

When prompted for evidence by the senior cleric the half-elf couldn't help himself.

"Will the word of a Pharasmin tomb robber suffice?" Rubani asked mockingly, holy symbol prominently displayed.

He immediately regretted the outburst. Vindictiveness was unbecoming and not in his nature. It was also unfair. For all he knew the man sitting opposite the party was as opposed to the lottery as he was. And yet. So this priest was made uncomfortable for a few minutes. So what? The church should feel uncomfortable. They should feel a fraction of his distress and moral anguish over Pharasmin sanctioned grave looting. They should know the awkward position they forced the faithful into, Rubani thought, looking over at Naomi. They deserved this much at least.

"We also brought this," he added in a much calmer voice, as he gingerly unwrapped Akhentepi's funerary mask and showed it to the priest.

"From the sarcophagi of Akhentepi itself. We seized it as respectfully as we could, given the circumstances."

Namrut shook his head, “I can keep your findings safe but I’m not comfortable with that thing inside the house?”

Because she knew her uncle well, Shalina could tell that Namrut was exerting a lot of will power to stay in the room knowing that a snake – even a mechanical one – was close by. “Uncle, I understand that you do not want to keep the cobra in your house with the rest of the goods. However, would you be able to find someone to help figure out how this construct works and potentially whether it has value? It really would be a shame to have to destroy it after the effort we made to catch it.”

Shalina turned towards Azghaad and asked, “Can you take the package home with you tonight? It should not pose a threat now that the box has been reinforced by rope.”

if Namrut is still hesitant to help, can Shalina get a knowledge or diplomacy roll as suggested by Rubani to try to find someone herself?

When they were discussing what to do with the chariot Shalina had an idea. "Maybe we should just tell the Pharasmin about the chariot and they can decide whether they want to spend the money to have it extricated. It seems like none of us really want to deal with it."

Action 2:
Shalina’s eyebrows raised slightly in surprise as Rubani initially addressed the Pharasmins the way he did. She hadn’t realized that he had become so disillusioned with those of his own faith. When he composed himself and continued in a more professional manner, she realized that she had been holding her breath which she then slowly expelled. She watched the Pharasmins as they were shown the meticulous notes and drawings taken by Azghaad and Akhmose only to be trumped by the presentation of Akhentepi’s funerary mask. Personally she didn’t think they would need further convincing of their thoroughness but to be on the safe side she also recounted their run-ins with the ten-legged spiders as well as the sarcophagus and the metal cobras. She still couldn’t believe that she had actually managed to grab hold of that cobra and live to tell the tale. It would forever be the story she would fall back on when telling tales around the table whether eating with family or at the tavern with friends.

As Azghaad and the Pharasmins discussed the two people who had stormed out of their office before them, Shalina stored the shared information in her memory for later use if necessary. It was curious that any of the groups, knowing full well that the sites were assigned by lottery, would make such a request. She had every intention of asking Uncle whether he had heard about this Erudite Eye when she got home. She would also add the Scorched Hand to her list of groups to watch out for.

The Pharasmin was impressed with the details of the exploration provided by the Grave Guard. He pulled out a scroll with a list of sites and stated, "The second site is a walled, two story mansion with surrounding grounds, which we believe belonged to some minor nobility of the city." He then handed them a sketched map detailing the site's location in the necropolis; the site's name read "House of Pentheru".

"Do you have any questions or concerns before you embark in your new site?"

"No, and no. Simply fellow Nethians. I had thought I knew all the explorers, but I would have remembered them... As for special privileges: the terms were clear when I joined. I have some idea how popular this lottery is with Pharasmins - but I understand it at least leaves some control in the hands of your goddess. I wouldn't ask you to stand against that."

does it seem like they're looking for anything in particular in the description?

She laughed at what she was picturing in her mind but stopped when she saw confusion on the wizard's face. In explanation she said, "There would not be one unpaid tab in the Tooth and Hookah if it was made known that the cobra would be personally ‘shown’ to any patron attempting to welch on what they owed. Shalina really wanted to take Namrut back to the tomb of Akhentepi to show him. She would go back on her own with him if no one else wants to go or if she's trusted to go herself...or even if the others don't want her to take Namrut. If I were to write up something, would Namrut provide any additional information about the tomb when he sees it or would he just be in awe and grateful for being able to see it?

Just 'awe and grateful' but also obtain more information to be able to better sell the items and get you all 10% more.

However... Namrut is an older gentleman so be careful he doesn't drop down a 60' deep shaft....

This is probably done with at least two people.

He caught himself just in time, cleared his throat, and continued, "Every building that has not been explorer will be opened for exploration. Like many minor Osirian nobles, Pentheru owned a section of farmland and was responsible for its administration, overseeing the farmers who worked the land and the distribution of grain, and ensuring the proper taxes were paid to the local authorities and the Keleshite sultan in Sothis who ruled Osirion at the time."

He continued reading from the papyrus, "Pentheru the Elder started construction of the estate but passed away during its construction. His son, Pentheru the Younger, inherited his lands and title and finished the house."

You just get a feeling that he's in 'Rubani's club' and not comfortable with the 'official looting' but he's too 'lawful' to voice his concerns.

Just me messing with the NPCs to give you guys more RP opportunities. :)

I also really like the 'show off the construct' idea so if someone wants to write it up, feel free to obtain whatever you think is necessary (glass tank, snake charmer outfit and basket, whatever).

There's also no hurry to go to the next site right away so you can take the afternoon to: a)procure the items above, b)take some time off to study the books you found, c)find out info on the next site, and/or d) take nNmrut down to Akhentepi's, and/or e)other?

I just need to know what to write for the next turn (tomorrow, BTW) but I'm more than happy to just set it up for a grand entrance to the Tooth and Hookah.

Again, whatever you guys want, just let me know.

I will unfortunately be completely out of commission tomorrow, so don't expect a post from me. But Rubani could easily be that second man in your post, Shalina. (or third man, or however many we end up being) He's curious to know where Namrut's interest comes from. You're free to include him if you wish.

Azghaad wants to do ALL of them!

Well, someone else could give Namrut the tour, though as I go through the other options I am coming to think Azghaad is an excellent choice for tour guide.

Potentially someone else might look for a strong enough cage (not sure about glass?) for the iron cobra - or at least a chest with a grill under the lid. I suspect displaying the snake might have to wait :/

Finding out info on the next site seems very wise. Sounds like that might be more of a job for people with people skills though ;P

He's also like to put out word that he's interested in talking to the Nethians - is there a Nethian temple in town? They tend to be rare... If nothing else he could get his Household to make inquiries at the sellers of magical components.

Studying the books is probably Azghaad's preferred method of passing the time. On the other hand, there is no time pressure on when that has to be done by. I do think he'd do a slightly more comprehensive scan than he had already done.

Can.we figure out if the construct can be controlled and if so, how? Shalina will find a strong cage for it but it would be of greater value if we could figure out how to control it.

The construct is programmed to attack so anything short of 'magic item creation' (beyond the party's current capabilities) would be useless.

Part of the reason I ask is that Akhentepi's chariot is still held within his tomb. It was beyond our resources to extricate it." Shalina was also curious about the site's fate since she was still hoping to take her uncle to see the tomb later but wanted to make sure that it would still be possible.

No one said anything to Shalina's previous inquiry about the chariot so she's just going to offer it to the Pharasmin.

As they left the Grand Mausoleum, Shalina’s mind was on making preparations for the new site as well as making good on her promise to take her uncle to see Akhentepi’s tomb. ”I think that I would like to do a little more research about the House of Pentheru before we go. I would also like to take Uncle Namrut back to see Akhentepi’s tomb this afternoon. Even though we are all eager to see our second site, I propose that we take the afternoon to make necessary preparations and plan to go first thing tomorrow morning.”

I’m assuming that everyone is ok with this

Her sly smile returned. “That will also give me enough time to find a suitable enclosure for our metal friend so that it can properly be displayed at the tavern tonight.”

Before everyone went their separate ways for the afternoon, the bard asked, “Is anyone willing to come with me to help uncle down the shaft so that he can see Akhentepi’s tomb? I doubt that I can manage helping him down and hauling him up on my own…and he will require some help.”

Rubani nodded his assent, most likely wanting to make sure that Namrut didn’t disturb Akhentepi’s remains which Shalina understood. She was a little surprised that Azghaad also volunteered since she thought he’d have other responsibilities to attend to but she was more than happy to have the added company. They made their way back to Namrut’s home and did not have to do any convincing to have him accompany them.

As they made the short trip to the tomb, Shalina hid a smile as she observed her uncle. There was a spring in his step and his eyes sparkled with an excitement that was seen more in children than in adults. They had to struggle a little more with the entrance doors than normal since Naomi and Akhmose weren’t with them but they managed. Shalina saw the first sign of doubt cross her uncle’s face as he peered down the shaft. She knotted the rope in order to make a loop for her uncle to sit in so that he could be lowered down.

Once they were all safely down the shaft, they led Namrut through the tomb in the same way in which they had explored it. His mouth was slightly open in awe as he walked through the rooms. Shalina enjoyed moving through the tomb with her uncle and seeing his reactions to everything because she knew that they had already removed potential dangers.

It didn’t take long to tour the site. Shalina could tell that her uncle would have liked to have stayed longer to study certain items like the aging tapestries but he was also respectful of their time. He marveled over the chariot but understood that it was not feasible to have it removed. Thankfully he deferred to Rubani when they entered the room where Akhentepi had been laid to rest. Shalina was surprised that he restrained himself from asking to see the remains and seemed content to study the outside of the sarcophagus. When they were finally ready to leave, it proved to involve more effort than Shalina would have expected. She was grateful that both Rubani and Azghaad had come because it took all three of them to lift her uncle out of the shaft.

The whole way back, Namrut couldn’t stop thanking them for taking him through Akhentepi’s tomb. Shalina had no doubt that he wouldn’t readily forget the experience which made her realize that she was either blessed, lucky, or both to be part of these explorations regardless of the motivations behind why they were happening.

if either Rubani or Azghaad want to add to the tomb tour, feel free

Now that she had fulfilled her promise for showing Uncle the tomb, Shalina turned her thoughts to how to display the metal cobra for all to see. They needed a container that people could see through but she also wanted something that was sturdy, not too expensive, and that people could hear the snake’s angry hissing through. She went to the market and looked at what was available. In the end, she decided on a well-made iron cage with a handle so that they could carry it without getting too close. She had made sure that the bars weren’t bendable considering the construct would be doing its very best to escape and attack any who came near. She also bought a covering for the cage so that it could be revealed with a flourish for greater effect.

While the others occupied themselves with Namrut's tour of the tomb and looking for a cage for the metal serpent, Naomi decided to occupy her time looking for a scholar who might know something of Pentheru the Elder and Pentheru the Younger.

Sorry, catching up.

Akhmose was honored to go along with Shalina and show the tomb to someone who had a true appreciation of its history. He spent much time discussing architectural motifs, burial practices, and construction techniques.

Akhmose smiled at Shalina's suggestion at displaying the snake in the tavern. "That would bring in a lot of business--maybe the tavern owner would buy it from us." As Shalina returned with the iron cage, he checked it over for weaknesses, and also asked Agzhaad if he thought the construct could break out over time.

“Is anyone willing to come with me to help uncle down the shaft so that he can see Akhentepi’s tomb? I doubt that I can manage helping him down and hauling him up on my own…and he will require some help.”

"I'd be happy to. I have a spell that should make the going down part safer. Though I'd use the rope anyway."

"Wati is just as dangerous as ever - I think you are wise to have company in case the desert vermin attack again."

Quote:
She knotted the rope in order to make a loop for her uncle to sit in so that he could be lowered down.

"Rest easy, Namrut. Should anything happen my magic will catch you."

When he saw the excitement in his eyes start to die down when they left the tomb, Azghaad brought up a delicate topic.

"Namrut... I can see you are a scholar by inclination, even if a merchant by occupation. Shalina has mentioned that you are... not gifted in magic" Azghaad skirts the topic delicately.

"While those naturally gifted with arcane power are fortunate, the power is available to those of Will and Intellect. I believe these are attributes you possess. You could learn magic."

"It is never too late to start. There are those who have lived far longer than you, and should you find a way to extend your lifespan you might live long enough to reach truly impressive heights. Moreover, you will be spending your life in pursuit of the ART."

"If you are interested I will teach you what I can, even induct you into the Ghostgrove temple. But do not undertake this path unless you are sure you can walk it. I do not ask for your answer now. But think on it."

RE cobra cage
Azghaad studied the cage carefully and will give his opinion
"Traditionally constructs don't have much intelligence, so I suspect if we put it in and it has not already broken free by the time we reach the tavern, then it probably won't."

"I am interested in seeing if I can find a way to interfere with its Tuppu using arcane energy. If I can, I may be able to render it impassive. It is likely to be a long process of experimentation. This cage would be ideal for experiments."

He giggled a little - seeming very young suddenly
"All my life I have looked for exciting new puzzles. Suddenly I am drowning in them!"

Excellent turn.

Turn 040 is up.

Questions, comments, and/or suggestions?

Game on!

Hmmm - stylistically I tend to do each sentence as a paragraph on PbP. I've noted that in the recap it tends to look a little disjointed though - especially with the start of the paragraph indented.
Fabian: what do you want to do about it? I can try to write longer paragraphs if that will help.

Actions 1: the Tooth and Hookah
Assuming Shalina is carrying the snake as she is the hero of that story :)

Azghaad entered the tavern a trifle cautiously. After so nearly coming to blows with the Sand Scorpions last night, He had decided that some caution was appropriate.

Looking around the tavern he noted the prose-dominated gang was absent. He smirked in victory - until the reason for the argument occurred to him. They had been afraid of the ghouls. Yes, they had tried to poach a priest, and yes they had been rude... but had they fallen, victims to their own arrogance?

Guilt crept over his face. He realised he would not be annoyed to see them turn up, simply late.

This is going to haunt me all night, if I don't do something about it.
"Shalina. Do you know anyone who would know what happened to the Sand Scorpions?"

...
Azghaad adjusted his clothes to a more formal black and white motif, and strode over to his fellow wizard.

Fabian:

I figure Nethian clerics probably have some way of measuring their abilities for status purposes. While I think high-powered mages probably are more polite than this normally, I also expect introductions are meant to be done quickly and succinctly.
I'm using "Master of the First Circle" to imply he can cast first level spells. Feel free to make something up or tell me I'm crazy if you like. I'll follow your lead :)

"Hail Nethys!" he greeted, dragging a chair over and sitting down - heedless of the other fellow's feelings. "I am Azghaad Glyphstele of the Ghostgrove Temple of Nethys. I am a Priest of Nethys, Scholar, Master of the First Circle, and Fire Mage. I am the wizard of the all-gifted exploration team 'The Grave Guard'."
All gifted might be stretching it, but Akhmose is gifted even if also unpractised. Need to make a strong introduction if I want to assert my independence.

LOOT
Azghaad is happy for things to be sold. He is interested in getting Tanglefoot bags for situations where delicate items are near combative enemies. He'd be prepared to spend his own cash on getting two bags for himself, but would like the group to consider maybe getting one for everyone.
if just him, then he'll buy them from (in order) The family of the dead alchemist in his first team, or Boram. He would be prepared to wait, but no more than a day or two. In either case he'll pay 110% (deliberately losing the bartering). If he has to go to a normal merchant he'll barter as well as he can.

Actions 2
I lost my first team because we weren't cautious enough with a new site. That's not happening again! thought Azghaad.

"Nice to see that there's no digging, but based on these doors, I'd say someone has been here before us. Hmmm - nice doors. Bronze isn't cheap. Suggests they paid a fair bit for security, or possibly for the look." The Wizard adds this last as he takes a careful look at the doors, scratching with his dagger.
"Akhmose, forgive the stereotyping, but could you take a look at these doors? They look impressive, but is it a facade, or genuinely secure doors? Shalina? You've experience with" he coughs "Practical security systems. What are your thoughts?"
Tag Shalina
Tag Akhmose

Trying to work out the difficulty level we might be facing. I'm assuming doors are barely worth dragging back for selling even if pure bronze. At best they'd be worth about as much as copper, I assume. A fortune for some poor labourer, barely worth our while.
I'm curious also as to whether the doors could be easily rehung so we could have some additional security while working.

"Now, I'm assuming the guards don't go through the doors. That means there could well be something inside here. Tall walls mean shade from the sun, except at noon. There's numerous vermin that might use that."
"Naomi, Rubani, if you'll walk with me I think it would be worth walking the perimeter and trying to see - with my third eye - over the wall. Hopefully if the two of you could lift me I could peer over. Unless Shalina wants to be part of it? I suppose we could try walking around on top of the wall and peering in at the top floor." There's doubt in Azghaad's voice.

Your posting is really good, both from a content as well as quantity/frequency POV so I'm not worried. I do add something to break up the dialogue like 'Azghaad looked around before continuing' or 'Azghaad nodded', stuff like that but nothing major.

I'm very happy with everyone's posting. Understanding that we all have our busy days, I think we all contribute to make this an excellent game.

BTW, I'll hit Azghaad's tags later today.

Thoughts?

I won't really be able to post until tomorrow evening but a quick question for when I do...how wide is the wall that surrounds the estate? Is it feasible for someone to walk on even if difficult?

It's pretty wide (at least 1 foot) so someone dexterous could walk on it.

When Rubani entered the Tooth & Hookah together with the party he immediately realized that something was off about the establishment. It took him a moment to see what this something was: the Sand Scorpions were nowhere to be found. His mind quickly seized with worry. The group had stated that they were set to explore some ghoul infested ruin just yesterday. Had something happened to them?
Rather than assume the worst the cleric tried to ask the other tavern patrons about the gang who had featured heavily in his prayers just this morning. He approached the Dog Soldiers and after an exchange of social pleasantries, which included Rubani asking about the well-being of their riding animals, he asked the halflings what was really on his mind.

"The Sand Scorpions - the group that was in here yesterday; are any of you familiar with them? Have you heard anything about their Necropolis expedition today?"

I'll add more onto this once we learn of SS's fate. As for my spells, Fabian, I think we'll keep them as is. Akhentepi's armor... I imagine that a scale mail will do the most good on either Akhmose or Naomi. I leave it to them to figure that one out.

One of the halflings thanked Rubani informing him that his dog was evolving well. "We saw the 'scorpions' earlier today. The three of them were going inside their assigned site but we never saw them come out. Perhaps they are still trapped in there..."

Hoo boy. I have a vague recollection of the Necropolis being closed off at nights. Is this the case? I hope it is because if not I think Rubani might actually run along to check on the Scorpions, and I generally don't like sidetracking games. Especially when the stage has already been set for our second site.

Uh, uh, no sidetracking exists in a game that's being run in conjunction by the players and DM.

I always try to give you guys at least two scenes to act because of game pacing issues but with the understanding that the we may have to backtrack to accommodate the story.

So... you guys tell me where to go and what to do.

That being said, the necropolis is indeed closed at night (by the Pharasmin nonetheless) but a resourceful group of PCs have options open to them...

Shalina carried their angry construct into the Tooth and Hookah. It must be able to sense her presence because even with the covering, she could feel it banging against the bars as it tried to get at her leg. Shalina placed the shrouded object on a table and couldn’t help but notice all the curious glances that it warranted. Before pulling off the cloth or drawing more attention to it than it had on its own, she needed to talk to the barkeep to make sure they approved.

She turned to Azghaad to get him to watch over the construct when she heard him ask her a question.

Azghaad wrote:
”Shalina. Do you know anyone who would know what happened to the Sand Scorpions?”

“I plan to talk to the barkeep about our friend. I can also ask him about the Sand Scorpions.”

Making her way over to the bar, Shalina motioned to the owner who then made his way to her. ”We have a little reveal planned of something we found at our site. Do you have any objections?”

Shalina wasn’t surprised by his answer but had wanted to be respectful of his establishment by asking first. As he was turning to go back to work she asked, “Also, have you heard from anyone about where the Sand Scorpions may be? I do not see them tonight.”

Technically I'm a non-casting paladin archetype but I do have some magical abilities.

Naomi, do you want the armor? I have the shield already. We should definitely hold on to the potions. Tanglefoot bags are not a bad idea.

Akhmose entered the bar, curious to see how the patrons would react to the metal snake. But overhearing the news about the Sand Scorpions, he became distracted. "Wait a minute, friends. Weren't they concerned about fighting some ghouls? I think we should go search for them. They seemed like they were rushing back unprepared." He stood to go, but waited to see if anyone would follow, knowing it would be folly to go alone.

Fabian Benavente wrote:

"Terribly." Azghaad looked sadly at the ground and shook his head "This is a rough business. My entire team died my first day out - except me, obviously. Three of the Grave Guard quit on the first day, and I joined them. We nearly died twice - no, three times - in our first day alone. The treasure I hoped to find was a little disappointing as well. Primarily all we've found is some simple notes - oh and some gold, and oils and things like that. There was a few fascinating constructs, but we primarily had to destroy or abandon them. It is not the walls carved with historic accounts I had hoped for."

"How goes your hunt?"

Oh, same spell list as for day 3 is fine by me

Azghaad minded the cage while Shalina talked to the barkeep. The job wasn't hard, though he did have to drag it back to the centre of the table when the repeated buttings from inside moved the cage a little.

He was distracted enough that he had not followed the conversation - until Akhmose rose. Quickly running over his memory he held up a hand.

"Admirable, friend. But to assault the Necropolis at night? What if they were simply late returning? And I doubt they'll be happy at anyone 'raiding'" the sarcasm is obvious "their site. We could go first thing in the morning. If they're trapped, we can rescue them."

Guilt crept into Azghaad's voice towards the end, as he remembered the team he lost to the sand that first day.

It's different he assured himself not just because they're prose
