Harmose:
Meehr Zet informs you that she has managed to score invitations to a grand ball held at the estate of the influential Okhenti family. It's a party to celebrate the homecoming of the family's son Khammayid, who's just returned from his studies abroad. Meehr has scored invitations for Harmose's whole posse, because it amuses her to bring commoners to stir the pot, as it were. The party is held on the evening of Day 12 (so, three days from now).

Turel:
After reporting in at the Grand Mausoleum, Bal Themm asks you and you alone to stay behind. After any other members of your group have departed the temple, Bal Themm leads you through some corridors of the Grand Mausoleum, until you are brought to a meeting chamber, where you find Sebti the Crocodile, the high priestess of the Grand Mausoleum and the leader of Pharasma's faith in Wati. The room is bare and sparse, and Bal Themm does not join you in, closing the door so that only you and Sebti remain within.

"Welcome, Turel Garaldo. Bal Themm speaks very highly of you, and thus I come to you with a proposal. It is absolutely imperative that what we speak here does not leave this chamber. May I have your word for it?"

Temple?
1 = Go
2 = Don't Go
1d2 ⇒ 2 Aleris will pursue something else.

"I don't think I'll go to the temple," Aleris comments as the group prepares to part ways for the time being. "There's some things I need to do before it gets too late. Don't worry though, it shouldn't take me too long and then I'll head back to the Tooth & Hookah!" With a wave, she turns and disappears into the crowds milling about in the streets.

After a bit of walking, she finally manages to track down the location of a scrivener's shop. "Um, hello? I was looking for someone to write down and deliver a letter for me..."

Letter to Panhet:

Panhet,

I know this will seem very strange but I'm a visitor to Wati, participating in the lottery to search places inside the Necropolis. I overheard a some talk about how your husband went missing over a year ago. It may be turn out to be nothing, but I had a feeling that told me to seek you out. If you would be willing to meet with me, my group and I are staying at the Tooth & Hookah and can usually be found there in the evenings.

Sincerely,
Aleris Somciel

Once her errand is finished, Aleris steps back out into the warmth of the sun and begins to make her way back towards the Tooth & Hookah. She walks at a leisurely pace, knowing that it's likely still too early for the other groups or even most of her own to be back at the inn. She briefly considers paying Teht a visit, but then decides against it.

Sorry Teht, but there's someone else I think I'd like to talk with tonight. I think she'd be in a better position to help me...

A bit later after taking one of the many scenic routes, the sylph finally arrives back at the Tooth & Hookah. As she steps inside she gazes around the common room hopefully, looking to see if Sigrun and her group are back from their own dig assignment.

Harmose inspects the shield, and attempts to lift it, then slowly eases it back down. "I could probably use it, but I doubt sincerely that I could carry it. Maybe Des or Turel would be interested?"

Maybe one of you could become a shield bash specialist!

Meanwhile, back in town, Harmose stops by Meehr Zet's place. "Hey Meehr, your favorite ghost is still alive and kicking! Other than some undead cats, we had a really quiet time through the crypt of Pentheru. All the interesting stuff was upstairs." Then he grins. "Your new boyfriend was steady as a rock, but I turned and ran when..."

He breaks off, suddenly uncomfortable. "Meehr, have I ever told you the full story of how I died the first time? I've been holding my cards a bit tight to my chest, but I think it's time for you to know everything that happened then, before I tell the others tonight at the Tooth and Hookah..."

Relationship Roll, Meehr Zet, Day 9: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24

The news of the ball delights him. "I'll tell everyone about the ball, but is the dress code the usual formal attire? I'm not sure everyone in our group has the means to deck themselves out for something like this yet. Unless... Can we make this a shopping outing?"

Edit: As group leader, I'm going to have to go to the temple, but as Hilary in real life, I have to go to work. So the answers to the Temple questions are going to wait until my next lunch break.

As they return from the Pentheru estate, Polux seems to be completely lost in his thoughts - perhaps about the Ubashki or perhaps about the mummified cat they left behind, or even more about the reason why it was placed there - To prevent one from becoming an undead... - it made sense, but it was so strange for him that it would be a concern when putting someone to their final rest.

As the others go on their self appointed assignments, he just wanders the streets of Wati, pondering to himself much of what has happened in their last incursion into the Necropolis area, and what seems to be moving the others - he can't put a finger on it, but something is starting to bu him at the fervor with which they always return running to the church - "What the heck has the church ever done for us anyway?" - he mutters to himself along the way, shaking his head.

After a short incursion into the bazaar to buy some upkeep materials for his weapon and armor, he eventually finds himself going back to the Tooth and Hookah - whether he would ever admit it is another matter altogether, but he felt the eagerness in meeting Sigrun again.

As he crosses the threshold, his eyes scan the room to find the fiery haired woman sitting at the counter, engaged in a conversation with someone.

Taking some liberty with the course of events here :P

Before even realizing it, he is sitting next to her, nudging her discreetly on her back - "You're not gonna believe the day we had today, and the stuff we came across" - he smiles. Even though his attention is focused on his drink, she knows the words are for her - "Maybe now is not the best time..." - Sigrun tries to retort, but Polux is too eager in telling her a story he knows she will appreciate - "Come on, you don't want to hear about undead cats - I actually CAUGHT one, but the others..." - his voice trails off as he notices who it is Sigrun was speaking to - "Aleris, I..." - the man stammered - "I'm sorry to interrupt"

I hope tis was ok Aleris? :D

He will press on eventually to tell Sigrun the story, so I'm rolling Relationship now, before I find myself without time to do it :P

Before the meeting with the Church:

Turel shakes his head on being presented the shield. "I have no need of a shield, or any other means of protection." He smiles faintly. "Do not worry about my well-being, my Brother. MY training protects me."

At the Church of Pharasma.

During the interview with the priests Turel thinks for a long time on what the group found in the House Pentheru. After a while he replies softly, "We found...echoes of the past...of the time of the Plague of Madness...chaos....terror...death." He pauses to let that sink in before continuing. "However that is not all we found. We found ancient evil lurking there, calling those around it. Both vermin and human were drawn to it. While the sanctity of the Pentheru tomb was not violated, I fear it is only a matter of time before that evil claims the House as its own." He will tell what he encountered at the House truthfully should they have any specific questions.

Turel gazes at the Pharasma leader Sebti the Crocodile with a calm expression on his face, but a feeling of uncertainty stays with him as Bal Themm leaves his presence.

Why does Sebti wish to speak with me...alone? Perhaps she agrees with me the Necropolis should not be further exploited? I must know the truth here...

He bows in response to her question and nods slowly. "I pledge to you upon my honor none of what you reveal to me shall pass my lips."

Even if your group normally shares information and you read each others' spoilers, please do not do so with the following. It is for Turel's eyes only, unless he chooses to reveal it at a later time.

Turel:
Sebti says, "This is extremely privileged information. I have a brother... his name is Neb-at. We share the same mother. He serves as keeper of the sacred white crocodiles at the Golden Lake, just outside the Grand Mausoleum. He is, however...somewhat cavalier with the creatures' offspring, and sometimes sells their eggs for his personal profit. One of the crocodiles has today laid a clutch of eggs, and Neb-at has arranged a meeting for tomorrow night. I believe it is to sell some of these eggs. I would entrust you with the assignment to foil this meeting and to return those eggs back to the Golden Lake. However, I have two restrictions. First, Neb-at must not be permanently harmed in any way. He is still my brother, and despite his crimes, I care for him. Second, my involvement in this must remain absolutely secret from him, and from anyone else you might choose to involve. Can you satisfy these two restrictions, Turel Garaldo? If not, you may decline and I will find someone else."

Aleris finds a reputable seeming scrivener service who will deliver the letter. That part is taken care of.

The Daughters of the Desert have returned from their own dig site, and Sigrun is present at the Tooth & Hookah. She will gladly interact with Aleris about whatever she might like. Sigrun also chats with Polux and he feels he's gotten a little further with her. Alas, just the Charisma modifier. Such is life.

To Harmose, Meehr Zet indicates that formal attire would be good, but money is no issue. If any of the group members want to get financial assistance to buy clothes, Meehr is willing to help.

Turel listens quietly to her request and once she is finished he is quiet a moment.

It is unfortunate she cannot take a direct approach here. This deception will not end well for her...still I do know what it is to care for a brother...

"I accept your offer. I shall prevent the sale of these eggs and they will be returned to their rightful owner. None shall know the true source of this request, and your brother will not be harmed. "

Now I just need to ask for help here, as I know I will need assistance here....without actually asking for help.

No problem at all Polux!

Aleris makes a beeline for Sigrun, thankful that the Daughters had also returned a little earlier than usual. After making some smalltalk about their respective dig sites, she coughs and fidgets uncomfortably. "Sigrun, you love the others in your group like sisters, right? What do you do when one of them seems like they're headed down a dangerous path?" She sighs and lowers her gaze. "It's Harmose. He...had a terrible experience as a child; you've probably heard him talk about it a little when everyone gathers to share stories. Most of the time he's okay, but sometimes...when we stumble across remnants of the dead, he...he has flashbacks, I think. He tries so hard not to show it, but I can tell when they happen because he's afraid. I almost never see him show fear otherwise."

She looks back up, desperately. "And it makes me afraid for him. What if he has a flashback and never makes it back to the present? If I lost him, I...I don't know what I would do. But this lottery, these dig sites...he told me once that he was searching for something. Is it worth it? Part of me wants to ask him to stop, but I don't know if I can...not if this is important to him. I don't know what to do," she sighs.

Questioning by the priests:

Quote:
What were your general impressions of the site? What things do you feel are important for historians to record about the House of Pentheru?

The household itself suggests that the Pentheru’s were quite wealthy. She lists some of the things including the water spout in the baths and the personal grainery. The description in the crypt of the family’s history could provide valuable information to historians seeking insight into how the minor nobility of the time lived.

Nervously sifting through some of her notes, Kito tells of the haunts. She admits it is speculation, but based on the haunts it is quite likely the house was overrun by a mob during the time of madness. She mentions how the bodies of the servants were found -- likely the last survivors of the tragedy.

Fidgeting a bit, she mentions the bodies that had been found and the concern about them not being properly interned. Describing what had already been done, she then nervously asks the priest what still needs to be done with them. I really should know this. So embarrassing, admitting that I wasn't paying proper attention to the church's teachings. It really hadn't seemed important.

She suggests that the wall mural in Ariseti's room depicting the arrival of a Keleshite sultana may have historical value -- mostly for the depiction of the event. The shrine is also of historical significance, especially if there are any notable changes in the prayers or symbolism utilized.

Quote:
"Do you feel you have explored the site fully? Were there any aspects that were left unanswered or confounded you? Suspected secret doors, anything of the kind?"

"No, not quite.

I am puzzled as to where Pentheru the Elder is interned. According to records we found, he passed away during construction of the Estate. We only found the body we assume to be that of Pentheru the Younger -- who evidently loved cats.

We have finished clearing all the obvious dangers and I think another day searching may be in order. We also have the bodies to deal with. There is also a brass key we found, to which we never found a matching lock."

Then she mentions the Mummified Guardian protecting Pentheru the Younger’s body and how she fears looters may steal it, thus removing the protection on the body. “It would be irresponsible to allow that to happen, but I am unsure how best to resolve the situation. The item is likely amongst the most valuable we found and we have left it there with the body. It was because of this that we came to report now rather than after a more thorough search.

No bluff check required. She really does believe it would be the height of folly to separate the item from the body.

The bodies that were turned into vargouilles are very recent -- likely less than a year old -- so there is reason to fear such looters.

Harmose submits to the Pharasmite questioning, though he raises an eyebrow when they separate him from the rest of his team.

Pharasmite Interview wrote:
What were your general impressions of the site? What things do you feel are important for historians to record about the House of Pentheru?

Harmose sits a moment, steepling his hands. "I brought ample notes detailing our finds, taking rubbings, and providing some translations of the ruins." He lays the notes down in front of the priests. "You may look at them if you like, or have a scribe make copies, but I'd like them back. We found many interesting historical items, but I don't want to concentrate on the property as much as the people."

His eyes meet those of the priest in front of him. "House Pentheru is a monument to lost lives and lost dreams. There is Pentheru the Elder, not buried there, but present in every other way. His face and story adorn the gates and walls. His son, Pentheru the younger, obviously was proud of his father and wanted the world to know his accomplishments. He is buried there, interned with a mummified cat that will ensure that his body gains proper rest. But the two Pentherus, for all their successes, were not the stories that most interested me from the site. We encountered several heart-breaking haunts from people who very likely died during the madness. The servants at the gate, begging for help. The guards at the gatehouse who were overwhelmed." Harmose pauses, puts on gloves, and then unrolls Ariseti's self-portrait. "We also uncovered this. It's a self-portrait of a young lady named Ariseti, Pentheru the younger's daughter. Her haunt replayed over and over her meeting with the lover who urged her to flee with them. As we uncovered her engagement ring, I gather that they never got that chance at love."

Harmose tells the priests of how the various haunts were settled, his eyes lighting up and his hands moving constantly as he speaks of his sudden engagement to Aleris. "Ariseti was the match-maker who finally brought me together with the woman I love. I owe her a debt, and don't want to see her forgotten."

The Burial Scene at the Gatehouse
Voiceover by Harmose

There is a cycle of life and death.

Turel, Polux and Ra-Khefer shovel graves, their backs sweaty, their faces set with determination. Deseri, no longer spinning, looks on with a sad expression on her face, and Aleris is deep in prayer.

Sometimes good people can get swept up onto a dark path not of their choosing. Perhaps a faithful guard rises again as a skeleton. Perhaps a small child who died from violence becomes a wight, and hurts others.

Qari watches from the sidelines, looking around nervously for whatever monster has newly moved into the neighborhood.

But now these men have been laid to rest and their souls can find peace again.

Harmose, holds Wenet, scratching her behind the ears, taking comfort in his rabbit's warmth and solidity. He's alive, and he's helping other lost souls find their rest. He looks to Aleris with a joyous smile.

Maybe peace is within all of our grasp, if you just stay on the right path long enough.

"My team did a thorough job exploring the site with dignity and respect. My colleague Kito used magic to search for secret doors and found none. I happily turn this site back over to you. The main things that you will need to keep in mind is that there is a temple to reconsecrate, and a valuable mummified cat that will need to be guarded, so that the body of Pentheru the Younger can have its guardian and maintain its rest."

The priests' responses to your group's interviews and answers seem generally favorable, and though there may be a few mumbles or whispers at some specific points, by and large, you get the impression that the priests are happy with your exploration of the House of Pentheru. The priests of course agree to returning all desired materials back to the group after making copies for themselves.

Sense Motive DC 10:
Some (*SOME*) of the priests may be coming around a little to thinking that maybe it's not such an absolutely terrible disaster for the Ruby Prince to have opened the Necropolis for adventurers.

Regarding the next site, the priests inform you that they are waiting to hear back from most of the second tier explorations before assigning the third tier explorations. They certainly won't hold things up if one or two groups are having trouble with their assigned sites, but neither do they want a precocious group to have the opportunity to rush through sites and do five in the time other groups only get two. So there's a measure of even-handed patience going on. However, you get the impression that you will probably have at least two or three days before the third site gets assigned.

Did Ra-Khefer make his relationship roll for Day 9 yet?

You've successfully appraised all the found treasure except the funerary mask from the last chamber so far. You should next start hashing out in the discussion thread what is to be sold and what is to be kept and who wants to keep what.

Some responses to individual issues in next post.

Turel:
You now have a deal with Sebti. She provides you with the necessary times and locations to intercept the exchange of goods. It's a rundown (but still in-use) brothel in the Veins district, tomorrow (Day 10) at midnight, so you have the evening of Day 9 and all of Day 10 to prepare.

Deseri visits the Naahns and though broaching the subject goes a little awkwardly, she ends up having some practice time, as it were. Sehhosep excuses herself and goes do some grocery shopping or whatever is a convenient lie, while Deseri spends some time with Bentu, getting more familiar with him. She shows up late to the Tooth and Hookah.

Sigrun listens to Aleris' concerns. "Aleris, dear. I appreciate that you are worried, it is an adorable trait to be sure. However, I think your concern is overblown. Consider that he is here now. Which should amply prove that he can take care of himself. If he couldn't, he wouldn't have reached this point. And at the end of the day, any adult carries final responsibility for themselves. Let him make his own decisions, chart his own path, and be there for him. As you would expect him to do for you. No?" She appears to be a proponent of free range spouses, encouraging individualism and personal responsibility.

To Kito, the priests strongly express that such a powerful magic item should not be left for the looters. If the party won't express plans to go back to get it, the priests will dispatch the temple's militia, the so-called "Voices of the Spire", to go secure the mummified cat for the church sometime on Day 10. The priests don't say it out explicitly, (they're not altogether thrilled about it), but reading between the lines, it's quite clear that according to the Ruby Prince's decree, ownership of the mummified cat is quite legally the party's.

Ra-Khefer spends some time with Tarouk, discussing the complexities of interpersonal relationships, and the watchman expresses strong sympathy with Ra-Khefer's plight. "I know all about social gaps and inappropriate liaisons. What's acceptable, what isn't. And on the other hand, what makes you happy, what doesn't. And when what makes you happy isn't that which is socially acceptable. Seen too much of that crap. Wish things could just be easier. I guess it's all about the randomness of life. Much as Pharasma professes this grand scheme of fate, I'm inclined to think there's no plan. Things just happen, and everything is just a colossal mess. And of course we in the watch usually have to sort it all out."

In the late afternoon, a twentysomething woman shows up at the Tooth and Hookah, a mild distress in her expression and demeanor. She goes to sit at the bar, striking up a conversation with Farhaan and inquires after Aleris. If and when Aleris is present, Farhaan will point her out to the woman, and she comes to have a word with Aleris. "Aleris Somciel? I'm Panhet, you had a letter delivered to me. About my husband? About Akar? You are planning to go into the Necropolis?"

"Please, how are we to do this in a way that doesn't put the body at risk of rising or otherwise cause problems?"

Is it enough if we do something to make sure that Penthera the Younger's body is interned someplace on consecrated ground?

She agrees to go back in with the party, but really wants a advice of how best to do this and be faithful to the church's doctrines.

Turel is silent as he thinks upon the question. "I know little of the ways of the Church of Pharasma. Most of what I have learned is from talking with Bal Themm. I suspect the reason the church is doing this is to swell the Ruby Prince's coffers. Giving us ownership of the valuables encourages us to sell them, does it not?" He rubs his bald forehead as he continues, "Now when we advise them to take care of this problem for us, it could very well be insulting their trust in us. As for the body I would say we simply seal up the sarcpophagus as best we can and carry it to the plot of ground whre we consecrated the ground earlier."

As the scholar digests this, Turel rubs his face again and motions for Kito to listen. "I have been presented with an opportunity to perform a favor for the Church of Pharasma. Since the details were presented to me in confidence I would ask first if you show any interest in assisting me here."

Kito thinks for a few moments on what Turel has said, idly scratching Thera under her beak.

Nodding, she says "I suppose that could work, burying the body. It seems I was misunderstood...I wasn't trying to avoid anything. I just wanted to know how to deal with it. It felt wrong but I couldn't see a solution that felt right." I'm still not certain, even with your solution. Still it is the best I have.

"As for your task, I would be happy to help you."

Kito tells the group that they need to recover the mummified cat and take care of the body of Pentheru the Younger. The body needs to be put in consecrated ground.

"I guess...I guess you're right," Aleris finally nods after pondering her friend's words. "He is strong...maybe the strongest person I've ever met. And he does have me. And we both have our friends." She smiles and gives her friend a hug. "Thanks Sigrun. I still want to talk to Harmose about it, but now I can do it as a show of support and not a show of worry...at least not too much!"

As she takes a sip of her drink, a familiar voice causes her to look up. To her surprise, she sees Polux standing and staring at the two of them. "Oh! No, not interrupting anything at all," she responds as she climbs to her feet. "We were just finishing up, actually. Thanks again Sigrun and I'll talk to you later!"

That's interesting, she thinks as she heads back over to the bar. Those two paired off last night if I remember right. Maybe there was more of a spark than they'd expected? Ohhhh, that would be so wonderful for them if that's the case!

So engrossed is she at the thought of her friends potentially finding happiness too that she at first doesn't even notice the young woman approach her. "Huh...? Oh! Oh, I'm sorry," she gasps. "Was letting my mind wander. Yes, I'm Aleris," she replies, offering a smile as she motions to the seat next to her. "I did send the message; I wanted to ask you a little about your husband. I'm in a group that's been taking part in the lottery and I happened to hear some talk at the Whispering Stone about your missing husband." She fidgets. "It may sound strange, but I...I heard the talk and felt like I needed to try and help you. I can't promise anything, but I'm willing to try - and I'm sure I could talk my friends into helping too."

"I...was hoping you would have something more than that", Panhet answers Aleris, clearly appearing a little disappointed, and maybe a little miffed. "But I suppose it's partially my own fault, for having gotten my hopes up on such a vague note. It's not like I can expect much of a happy ending after he's been missing for so long. Either he's left town or...worse. But...if you can find any indication of him in your travels, I would be very appreciative...financially."

"I'm sorry," Aleris replies quietly, hanging her head. "I didn't mean to get your hopes up. But I meant what I said about wanting to help."

She takes a deep breath and raises her head to meet Panhet's gaze once again. "What can you tell me about Akar? Any and every little detail will help."

Akar...Akar...why does that sound familiar?

Okay, did a thread search and found the relevant post to resolve this but I'll let Aleris' question stand for now. I am sure Aleris' memory will be jogged momentary!

Aleris' eyes open wide and her hand reflexively flies to her mouth. She'd suddenly remembered exactly where she'd heard the name 'Akar' before...and Panhet, too.

"Oh...oh my," she stammers. "N-now I know why hearing your name caught my attention in the Whispering Stone. I think...I think my group found your husband at our last lottery site," she begins, slowly. "We found a body there, maybe about a year old. It had a small gold wedding band with an inscription." She can see the scene clearly now, remember the inscription as Harmose reads it aloud in her memory - "To Akar from Panhet, Love Eternal."

Okay, moving things on a bit.

Panhet is quite distraught when Aleris tells her about the ring. She asks as much information as she can get out of Aleris, the details, but if told about the actual decapitation, she quickly decides she doesn't want to hear any more. Either way, whether told about the grisly death details or not, she rewards the party with 150gp if given the ring (which was worth 50gp, so you'd make a profit financially unless you want to keep the ring for other reasons). You also gain 400XP for telling the widow of her deceased husband.

The rest of Day 9 passes without incident, and you wrap up whatever business you had with your Relationship rolls and anything else that you might have cooking. Day 10 dawns, and you pop back to the House of Pentheru to pick up the mummified cat and do whatever you feel is appropriate with Pentheru's remains. After that loose end is wrapped up about the House of Pentheru, it is around noon time so you have plenty of time left of Day 10. You may make Relationship rolls for Day 10, and if you wish to do anything out of the ordinary during Day 10, now is the time to state so.

"I have been...entrusted with a task by the Church of Pharasma. An individual named Neb-at serves as keeper of the sacred white crocodiles at the Golden Lake, just outside the Grand Mausoleum. He has been known to sell their eggs for his personal profit. One of the crocodiles has today laid a clutch of eggs, and he has arranged a meeting for tonight. We would need to foil this meeting and return those eggs back to the Golden Lake...preferably without any loss of life." He looks over each of his teammates and also his family members. Waking up, Kito was finally happy with what she saw -- or rather didn't see -- looking in the mirror. The magical thief brand had finally dissipated! She no longer had to hide her forehead in shame behind a scarf!

Nah, Aleris wouldn't have told Panhet how he died unless she insisted on knowing and she wouldn't accept the 150 gp for returning the ring unless Panhet insisted on that, too.

After weathering the storm of emotions that comes from giving a grieving widow some closure, Aleris largely spends the rest of the evening watching the sun slowly sink over the horizon. When bedtime comes, she sits on the edge of the bed that she and Harmose now share.

"Hey, Harmose? Earlier today when you asked what was on my mind? Well, I know it may seem silly but I...I was just worried about you," she begins quietly. "After what happened with the cat mummy, I was second-guessing whether any of this is a good idea. But I talked to Sigrun a little earlier and she told me that I needed to trust in you to know your own limits. Heh, she was nice but very direct - maybe that's why I went to her in the first place instead of Teht," she smiles. Then her smile fades slightly as she looks up at Harmose. "And she's right. But I told you I'd spill, so here we are." A pause. "Are you okay?"

The Next Day

Once the business with the cat mummy is taken care of, Aleris makes her way back to her second (third?) home over at the Whispering Stone to catch Teht up on all the latest happenings with her group.

"...and so we were able to return her wedding band and give her some closure. What are the odds that we got assigned that site in particular?" she says, finishing her tale. "It had to have been Shelyn's guidance. It'll take time, but now Panhet can move on with her life and maybe find love again one day."

Day 9 Night w/ Harmose

Aleris gazes up at Harmose and though her eyes twinkle mischievously, her smile is gentle. "Happy to help - and as long as you say you're okay, then I believe you. I guess I'm growing too, in my own way - learning to trust, even if it's not about the same sorts of things." Her smile widens as she props herself up on one elbow. "And now if you're feeling up for it, I think we should talk about something more pleasant..." she murmurs as she leans over and blows out the candle.

But she heeds his words and opts not to press any further, although it wasn't easy. "Okay then...so how do we do this? Should we lay some sort of ambush?"

Turel's lunch with Bal Themm goes a little poorly after it becomes clear that the priestess has heard of Turel's little dalliance after the engagement party. Hey, it's not like Turel is dating Bal Themm. What business is it of hers anyway? "Of course, it's not any of my business. I'm sure you'll do what you consider appropriate. Hmf."

Kito tells the desert lodge owner Terhk of the group's adventures, and the scar-riddled half-orc listens attentively, squinting as he takes it all in. "I gotta say, most of the jobs the lodge's people do, they're outside Wati. A tomb in the sands, a harpy in the mountains, guard a caravan or a riverboat, bandits in remote places. So you know, a guy's gotten to think of the city as the dull place. You get up, you go to work, this is the safe boring place, and adventure's out there, yeah? Your stories...they remind me that sometimes home can be the most magical place of all." He has no ideas about the mural, but with all the adventurers frequenting Terhk's Fine Expeditions, he can certainly make some inquiries with some history experts.

Aleris gets the 150gp reward pretty much forced upon her for returning the ring to Panhet. She finds out that Panhet isn't *quite* in the nobility circles of the city, but she *is* quite well off, so while 150 is a lot of gold to a farmer, it's not that much to the woman who has just gotten a significant therapeutical aid to move on with her life. When she goes tell Teht Blackblossom about the development, the mysterious woman shrugs. "Shelyn. Or considering the Necropolis, maybe Pharasma. Who knows. But they do have a saying that love always finds a way. I don't suppose it matters overmuch which god made it happen. The most important thing is that it happens, hm?"

Harmose, Meehr's treat for you today is taking you to a prizefighting game, where oiled, near-nude men and women fight each other non-lethally and non-magically in an arena for money. Lots of glistening highly tuned and trained bodies jumping around, wrestling, dodging and whatnot. It turns out that Meehr is a really bad better and loses money on three of the four fights. The one who does win, however, gets a lavish afterparty thrown for him with Meehr's dad's money, with lots of alcohol, peeled grapes and people waving palm leaf fans. It's a good life, such as it is. And it's only late afternoon.

Aleris Sense Motive DC 15:
You get the feeling that Teht's own love life may be in need of finding a way right now. If there is one. Or if there isn't, maybe that's the problem. Either way, the way she speaks about love, it feels like there's an emotion of longing behind her words.

For Turel only, relevant info regarding peoples' questions:
Concerning the location of the trade, the brothel in the Veins district is at the corner of Goat and Cherry streets. Following Neb-at should be doable too, but if you get spotted doing so, there is of course the risk of him calling the thing off.

Concerning Deseri's question about why is Neb-at their keeper if he is known to sell the eggs -- that he does so is extremely privileged information and very few people are aware of those dealings. You have reason to believe that exposing him wouldn't work -- the church would protect him.

Kito's Knowledge about the Golden Lake:
Separating the Grand Mausoleum from the Sunburst Market, this artificial pool takes its name from the coating of gold dust cast over its surface each year on the Day of Bones. The lake also houses a rare breed of white crocodiles that are sacred to Wati’s Pharasmin church. Regularly fed and cared for, these long-lived cousins of the more dangerous crocodiles found in Osirion’s rivers pose little threat to tourists or residents.

While an important ceremonial location for Pharasma's church, it is also a popular parklike environment for families to gather.

The Golden Lake is number 7 on the Wati numbered map.

Day 10 - Earlier that Morning w/ Teht

"I suppose that's true..." Aleris replies, looking thoughtful. "I still think that Shelyn had a hand in it but even if she didn't, you're right - the fact that there's a chance for Panhet to find love again is all that matters. Even to the Eternal Rose," she smiles.

Huh...I always see Teht here. And she never really talks much about her own life outside of the this tavern.

"You know Teht, you're always working so hard any time I come in here to visit. Do you ever stop to take a break?" she asks, changing the subject. "If not, then you should! Why don't you come by the Tooth & Hookah one evening? It usually gets pretty lively when all the groups start coming in from their dig sites - plus there's always at least one good story to be heard from someone. Not to mention it'd give you a chance to be on the other side of a bar for a change," she chuckles.

And a good chance to mingle and maybe make some new friends...or more.

"At least promise me that you'll think it over, okay? We'd love to see you there!"
