Yeah it is dark. Undoubtedly so. But then I thought that might be an interesting counterpoint to the rest of the game.

In terms of what brings him joy, I guess that's a fair question and honestly he's had such a bad time of it, it's difficult to think of him being played as anything other than a gruff, gloomy gus.

If that's too wide of the mark for this game though, I have a fantastic archer bard that I has been in two games and never got past second level :/ and I know he would fit this game like a glove! He's amazingly cheerful and optimistic, the front man in the greatest band this side of the Eye of Abendigo! and a hoot to play.

I'd love to give him a chance at this, I'd just have to think hard about where I put that 5 I rolled.

From what I thought you guys needed, Tamhas is the best fit. From a pure fun and RP perspective (plus some very good skills and secondary arcane and healing), Fletcher Woodward is the man for the gig!

Fletcher's grin stretches wide across his face.

He snaps his fingers, a wicked look in his eye, and suddenly the bar is filled with the deep, resonating sound of several dozen ancient Osirion. Ghost Sound. The sound comes out of no-where but then is suddenly everywhere. You can see several people in the bar, enjoying their sleepy mid-morning ale suddenly startled and sitting bolt upright, some even scrabbling for weapons.

OOGA-CHAKKA OOGA OOGA
OOGA-CHAKKA OOGA OOGA

The tribal chanting builds and builds along with the tension until Fletcher suddenly hops down off his stool and bursts into song; a rich and clear voice emanating from his throat:

I can't stop this feeling
Deep inside of me

He shoots a pointing finger at the pale-skinned girl leaning on the bar, a wry smile on her face, head slightly shaking.

Girl, you just don't realize
What you do to me

As he struts through the bar like a prancing peacock, Fletch snaps his fingers once again and this time the sound is accompanied by the sight of dozens of skeletal warriors on stage, all stamping up and down but each with over exaggerated features such as massive jaws or huge over-bearing foreheads. Silent Image. Each one chants as he stamps up and down. Undaunted though, the bard continues his song;

When you hold me
In your arms so tight
You let me know
Everything's all right

He jumps on stage with the skeletons as he belts out the tune and as he marches up and down the line, one by one the skeletons collapse jaws flopping open and comedic 'X's over their eyes. Fletch sends a glance to the party playing cards and a wink to the ladies. By now, the rest of the bar are laughing and tapping their mugs on tables, giving ironic cheers as each skeleton falls and Fletcher boots the heads into the crowd that disappear into wisps of smoke as they sail through the air.

I'm hooked on a feeling
I'm high on believing
That you're in love with me

Fletch brings the song to a close by drawing his blade and swiping it through the illusion of a final creature, a terrifying mummy with an elaborate head dress and old rotting bandages. It's head comes rolling off and bounces across the bar to the feet of the party.

I'm hooked on a feeling!

Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack FTW!

Samy said she was possibly open to two, DAA.

****************

Tamhas, I'm not the final say, Samy is. She's the one who gets to pick.

Maybe we'll have to see how Tamhas interacts with the others? I'm just wondering if there could be a source of light in the backstory, somewhere?

Maybe you've found your son... in town, here. Someone else is watching him, and you are trying to raise money for that, and to get the two of you someplace nice? Maybe there is a game or a hobby that gives you peace? Maybe you really like good music, or good food or a great joke?

I really love Tamhas -- idea, background, everything. I'm just looking for a teensy bit of light to leaven the mix.

****************

Ohh... Fletcher does look charming, doesn't he? Thanks for sharing him!

Well I guess those are my submissons. The more I'm thinking about it the more I think Fletch would be better suited to the tone of this game and brings a lot of the skills I think the party is lacking. I'm sure Tamhas will eventually find his way into a gloomy Carrion Crown pbp or something.

He's really intended to be a buffer, archer and spellcaster from the back though, especially if using 3.5 bard hd which was d6. So that would mean the team still sorely needed a tank.

Having said that, absolutely don't want to get ahead of myself so will wait to see what Samy says on the matter.

Well I wanted Deseri to be a tank it may just take a level or two. Tanking with a bitof healing and fun roll play.

As Harmose said, it's ultimately up to Samy but as it stands I'm happy with your proposal DAA and whichever one of JZ's that will work the best. Aleris certainly wouldn't mind having a fellow archer in the group but she also wouldn't say no to someone willing to stand up front and take the hits :)

Once I get my new computer figured out I will have the fluff and crunch defined on Deseri, windows 8.1 is angering me greatly.

I could do a barbarian/Sorcerer going into Dragon Disciple. No healing with this one but lots of damage and socking of damage.

I will need some feats for the soaking of damage with Deseri with a little time my AC should be impressive.

I agree. Since I am willing to take on two new players, you will have numbers, so that in part will compensate for any shortcomings in roles.

I think at this moment I am more inclined towards Tamhas, although I do have one concern about the character and that's don't make him "too Conan". The possibility of his family still being alive, and his facial disfiguration are great angles to give him his unique character, but the family being on the other side of the world makes it sort of a secondary concern, and the facial disfiguration may heal over time if you pull the dump stat up as levels pass. So what I would like to see is some additional non-Conan angles to Tamhas. Not saying you need to come up with that stuff during the app process, but it's something to keep in the back of your head for the long term.

If that's not too presumptuous and you'd still be willing to pursue Tamhas, I'm ready for him to be statted up.

Well I'll stat him up tonight and post the crunch. I'll probably revisit the backstory to make it less grim, possibly change region and motivation as well.

Ok so I amended Tamhas' backstory in the alias.

It is broadly the same except now he has made a decision not to attempt the journey home. He is afraid his wife won't recognize him and his son will be afraid of him and it would be better if they didn't know he still lived.

In the time he has been on the street after being 'freed,' he found that the only people who didn't look at him with pity or disgust were the street kids who begged alongside him.

He whittles toy soldiers for them, tells them tales of the north and loves the wonder on their faces when he describes snow and ice. Tamhas wants to enter the lottery to earn enough money to better their lives.

I'm going to play Tamhas as a gruff old soldier with a heart of gold whose icy exterior melts in the presence of children. He is a soldier and storyteller with a tale for every occasion, even if he does exaggerate how many Ice Trolls and Snow Dragons he has killed :)

Generally speaking, it is assumed that you just have the components you need unless they are expensive. Someone once listed all the items in a spell component pouch, for all the known spells. I'd have to look through my favorites, to find it again. Somehow, I don't think Samy will ding you unless you are casting stuff like stoneskin with expensive components.

That is usually most people do it. Ok after a trip to Best Buy I will detail the fluffy bits and finish stating Deseri out. So she should be finished by tomorrow.

Samy --

Can we talk shopping? We've picked up one wand of Cure Light Wounds already.

I think, since Tuneya isn't here, Harmose is going to let sleeping chariots just lie. We'd lose money now buying the Make Whole scroll and hiring the workmen.

I spent time talking with Turel and Aleris, and asked them if they thought a partially charged wand of Magic Missile (for when we encounter creatures we CANNOT hit like those bugs) might be a good idea. They each endorsed my purchase concept.

Guys, can you post in here so Samy knows you're good with it?

So... I figure that someone in Wati must have a partially charged level one wand for sale. Do I need to do a diplo roll to search?

Since Tuneya appears to be awol, do you want to throw the books and papers in the sell pile as well now? That would allow you to get a fully charged Wand of Magic Missile.

I was going to say that I needed to doublecheck with Aleris and Turel...

Then I checked my messages from late this night / early this morning and found that they, as usual, were ahead of me! They each endorsed the fully charged wand.

Yes, let's put the books and papers on the sell pile, since Harmose does not read Ancient Osirion yet.

More questions for Samy -- Can the two new folks be on the same XP track as us, so that we can all level at once? Speaking of leveling, do you think we're on track to reach that goal after we're done with the tomb of Akhentepi?

So originally I was shooting for the tank and Tamhas seems to have done it much better than I. Harmose said you all need a skill monkey as well. Deseri could be a skill money easily. So if she stays Oracle she can heal as well. Or I could swap her to Bard and there will be a lot of singing. Either way I will shoot for the skill money roll.

I was joking with a friend and she will be an Oracle who wants to be a bard. Preform is not a class skill so she might not be very good at it. Plus better healing magics. And since I am going skill money the 4 will be in wisdom. May Anubis and Set have mercy on Deseri's mental safety. And Ronks answer would be to hit it and turn Deseri into a Barbarian.

Harmose,

Turel will gain Trap Intuition at 2nd level.

At 2nd level, whenever a terra-cotta monk comes within 10 feet of a trap, he receives an immediate Perception check to notice the trap. The GM should make this check in secret. A terra-cotta monk gains a +2 bonus on Perception checks to notice traps. This bonus increases to +4 if the trap is located in a stone wall or floor.

Tamhas,

I was thinking even though you are not religious per se, the Indomitable Faith trait would still apply to him considering his background. According to the trait your struggle to maintain your faith is a key part of your background, even though you do not follow a particular deity. I would reconsider taking that trait.

Just my two coppers here, he he.

Liberty's Edge

Female Human Commoner 1

It could even be argued that since religion specifically isn't namechecked in the trait, that it could apply to something like "faith in seeing your family again"...

Or, if one wanted to talk about religion, one could dig up some obscure "god of reunions", which isn't popular in the home region because people there are very forward-looking and don't dwell on the past. If that sounds like something potential, I can dig through the big table of deities in Inner Sea Gods for something suitable.

For the Aasimar I can take one of the alternate abilities correct and if so do you want me to roll here for one of the alternate abilities? Or can I pick the one I like? And can I swap the regional trait for a racial one? please?

I could've made this campaign with two traits, of which one had to be mandatory campaign trait. I think it's exceedingly generous to provide both a free campaign trait and a free regional trait, yet still leave two completely unrestricted traits from any category. Use one of those two for your racial trait. So sorry, but no. I appreciate that you said please, but I'm firm on this.

As for the Aasimar alternate abilities, I think it's a bit too much to allow a completely free pick from the entire 100 possibilities, yet a single d100 roll is a bit cruel. I will allow you three d100 rolls, and you get to pick from those three, or the spell-like ability.

I thought I would ask since I am torn on the traits but I totally understand. And the four traits is cool.
And yay to the 1d100. I stand a chance at something cool. And I assumed I would not get to pick but I was unsure.
1d100 ⇒ 10 You can subsist entirely on honey and wine. Drunk Winnie the Pooh so a big no on that.
1d100 ⇒ 17You can cast spear of purity once per day as a spell-like ability.
1d100 ⇒ 76You gain a +2 racial bonus on saving throws made against curses.

oohh I like both. Which one to pick?... Gonna take the bonus to the saves since I tanked wisdom. Thank you for tolerating my questions. She is almost done.

Male Human (Keleshite) Undead Tattooed Sorcerer 3 / Heavens Oracle 1 | 21/21 HP | AC 13 T12 FF 11 | CMD 11 | F+2 R+3 W+5 (+2 Circumstance vs Death Effects) | Init +11 | Per +10, SM +2 | Speed 30 ft | Arcane Spell 7/7; Divine Spells 5/5 | Active Conditions: Good Cop, Bad Cop or Awesome Cop?

While the drunk Winnie the Pooh route would have been hilarious, under those circumstances you wouldn't be able to enjoy the amazing lemon lentil soup that Harmose just bought you so I'll give a thumbs up to your choice as well.

Are you staying Ancestor mystery, Ronk? If so, you'll be pleased to know that there was a recent FAQ that allows you to use your casting stat rather than your wisdom for the bonus spells granted by your mystery... This only applies to the spells you get automatically, because they thought it too cruel to make ancestor oracles use wisdom on spiritual weapon.

Ok I've updated Tamhas with the Indomitable Faith trait, my reasoning being the references to the Witch-War in his backstory. Even if he lost sight of what the war was about he never lost faith that he was doing the right thing to protect himself, his family and his heritage.

I think that should do it.

He is now ready to go.

As I read War Blessing, you only get the minor blessings, not the major ones, and you may cast either one 2/day -- not 2/day each for a total of 4/day. If that reading is correct, then it seems reasonable.

Divine Protection is kind of crazy, as it potentially means +5 to all saves, which seems way overpowered for a feat. I'm inclined to say no to that feat.

Most people say no to that feat so I am not shocked or hurt. Hell I would probably say no to that. I will enjoy my blessing later though. I will be getting the healing and trickery ones.

And that is cool Harmose but for the Seer and there for the flavor I loose all but unseen servant. But with my Seer spells I unlike John Snow 'Will know things!'

Oh and the horse is it a thing here?
