Through a Window Darkly - Round 1

With inhumanly fast reflexes, Willem tries to shake off the fear and fires. His burning lead spackles through the branches of the alien tree to alight the wood-like flesh.

Willem:
fire damage for catching on fire: 1d6 ⇒ 3

The burning tree attempts to drop the wee ratfolk who alight it, but despite some very close calls, Willem manages to keep the blows to dings in his armor rather than his flesh.

Farmer shakes out his hands, peers through them, and snaps his fingers twice.

Aka's firey arrows do better this time, as her first arrow finds the correct placement of the tree which disobeys euclidean geometry.

Fenyx, confused, fires an arrow towards Farmer's back. Luckily, Farmer's flask stops the attack with no damage.

Pasara steps into the arcane symbol-ed square at the far end of the room. "I hope I'm right about these squares," she remarks.

Pointing a finger toward the tree-thing, she utters a mystic word and sends three bolts of force towards it.

Three small, almost harmless bolts - not even enough to drop the average turnip farmer enter the smaller area of arcane symbols.

And in the next second, force damage slams into Otik with power of thunder. Pasara rolled 7 damage. Pasara did 70 damage.

1d100 ⇒ 34 Cracks appear in the dark window - areas where you can see the room rather than the unsettling darkness currently rending the natural space.

The multitude of eyes moves from the rat to one of the blonde-haired humans in the room.

Male Ratfolk Gulch Gunner 6

Willem notices the monster's predatory glance. "Sorry, creature. You'll have to get through me first."

Round 2:
Willem reloads, and puts another blast into the tree monster.

1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27
1d4 + 12 ⇒ (3) + 12 = 15

Female Human Sorcerer/6

Round Too:

Pasara braces herself for the attacks she's sure are to come (Willem's threats at the creature notwithstanding). Keeping her finger pointed at the tree-thing, she says the familiar phrase and sends another three bolts of force at it.

Magic Missile Damage: 3d4 + 3 ⇒ (3, 3, 1) + 3 = 10
Saving Throw: None

Male Human Spellscar Oracle 6

"Think that would work for me?" Farmer asks Pasara.

Female Human Sorcerer/6

"If you have magics that will directly affect that tree-thing, sure. Force magics work best, but I think any spell that affect whatever's in the big funky window will get amplified."

GM:

Is Fenyx still derpy?

[spoiler=Fenyx]yep. still confused for 10 rounds. And since no one attacked Fenyx he is not compelled to attack a specific person.

Female Human Paladin 6

Round 2:

Aka
AC 25+3(SE), touch 14, flat-footed 21. . (+11 armor,+4 Dex,)
hp 32 (5d10+0)
Fort +7, Ref +8, Will +7 (+10 total vs. charm/compulsion effects)
Bless: +1

"Oy! Ugly! Over here!" Aka tries to attract it's attention away from Pasara and moves to an arcane marked square on the off chance it will help the fiery magics on her bow as well and fires again at the tree-thing.
Aka

dam: 1d8 + 3 + 1 + 4 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 3 + 1 + 4 + 5 = 17

Male Human Spellscar Oracle 6

round two:
Farmer attempts to replicate Pasara's trick with the squares and the amplification. With an eldritch bolt.

ranged touch: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18

1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10 force

farmer gestures, and multi-colored droplets spray from his fingertips.

Through a Window Darkly - Round 1

Willem reloads, and puts another blast into the tree monster. One burning tentacle streaks out, attempting to knock the small rat unconscious (1d20 + 13 ⇒ (17) + 13 = 301d20 + 13 ⇒ (7) + 13 = 20 worse of the two thanks to Farmer) but a multicolored burst of color distracts the attack at the last moment. Willem's shot tears through bark, piercing the creature's hide.

Still on fire, the creature attempts to get the vacuum of the void to put him out (1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 101d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 121d6 ⇒ 3 again twice due to Farmer), but continues to burn. One mouth tentacle stretches further that it looks like it should, aimed directly at Pasara. (1d20 + 13 ⇒ (1) + 13 = 14) The distraction of Willem and Aka pay off - it misses.

Farmer gestures, and multi-colored droplets spray from his fingertips. Dripping through the smaller square and slamming into the tree and the dark window itself. (Farmer rolls 10 damage. Farmer does 100 damage.)

The force of Farmer's power battered Otik from all sides, battering apart the tree branch by branch.

1d100 ⇒ 98 And the dark window shatters into thousands of little dark shards a moment later.

Detect Magic:
Neither the small nor the larger squares of arcane symbols currently radiate magic.

Aka has taken 8 NL. Willem has taken 16 NL. Farmer has taken 16 NL. Fenyx has taken 16 NL. Pasara has taken 16 NL. Maffei has taken 16 NL.

Male Human Spellscar Oracle 6

"Yep, that worked," Farmer says to Pasara.

GM:

Is Fenyx not derpy anymore now?
If still derpy, Fenyx attacks someone.
Round 2
Attacking someone: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Damaging someone: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

Female Human Paladin 6

"Good job guys,...Pasara..., everyone. For some reason, I feel inordinately tired." So saying, Akatsuki leans against a nearby wall. "Relieved, but inordinately tired."

Female Human Sorcerer/6
Farmer Odell wrote:
"Yep, that worked," Farmer says to Pasara.

"Yes, it did," she smiles back at Farmer.

She examines the squares with the arcane symbols some more. "I think we burnt it out, though. It's no longer enchanted."

Fenyx:
Still confused for nine more rounds. Or 8 after this.

Fenyx still has his bow drawn, and shoots Maffei as she moves up into the room. His arrow doesn't seem to hit anything important as it passes through the smoky woman. However, Maffei seems to think distance is a good idea and quickly moves back down the hallway.

Away from the confused wizard.

Female Human Sorcerer/6

Pasara also thinks "away from the confused wizard" is a good direction.

Female Human Paladin 6

"Fenyx! Stop that!" Aka snaps. She turns and slaps him across the jaw. or intends to anyway. I believe she will give an aoo if Fenyx threatens with a melee attack

nonlethal slap: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
what is damage? 1d2? assume don't have to add str mond? 1d2 ⇒ 2

Male Ratfolk Gulch Gunner 6

Willem frowns at Fenyx's antics as he reloads his weapon. "...a godsdamned menace." He holsters the gun and prepares to interpose himself between any arrow shots and either Farmer or Pasara.

Akatsuki no Yume wrote:

[dice=nonlethal slap]1d20+7

Damage is 1d2 nonlethal.

And having been attacked, the rest Fenyx's confused attacks will be focused on Aka. Given the way the poor wizard has been rolling, we will assume that even in his confused state, his heart is just not into hurting his allies.

Black Willem wrote:

And no arrows head that way.

Fenyx is no longer - in his words - derpy.

Male Human Spellscar Oracle 6

Farmer takes a drink, looks at Fenyx, shrugs.

Fenyx snaps out of the haze and puts his hand on his head.

"Did someone get the size of that mule?
Why are all of you looking at me like that?

Male Human Spellscar Oracle 6

"You were rude to Maffei," Farmer says. He offers his flask to Fenyx.

Female Human Paladin 6

"Verily." Akatsuki agrees, "Methinks perhaps an apology to her might be in order."

"What happened? Last I remember was some clash and then everything went white."
"Did anyone get hurt?"

Male Human Spellscar Oracle 6

"We messed up a tree real bad and broke a window."

Female Human Paladin 6

"..and you shot Maffei. Well... shot through her? Not exactly sure if she was actually hurt or not." Akastuki adds.

Fenyx frowns.
He walks over to Maffei.
Bows.
"My apologies if anything that I did have caused you or anyone else harm."
Fenyx sits with his hands on his head.
"What was it... That could do that... "
Spellcraft to figure out what spell causes those types of effects: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (2) + 13 = 15

Fenyx Spelljammer wrote:

"My apologies if anything that I did have caused you or anyone else harm."

Maffei, who had been cautiously waiting far down the hallway, pats Fenyx on the forearm, leaning close to say something to the wizard.

Fenyx or Perception DC 15:
"You weren't in your mind and there was no harm to me. I'm sure you'll be better next time."

A pause, "And frankly, that thing managed to scare me enough that I could barely move, so it isn't like I can hold a grudge against anyone who had mind enough to act."

Fenyx:
Fenyx is able to diagnosis a mind-affecting condition of confusion quite easily.

Female Human Sorcerer/6

"It's too bad you were under the tree-thing's whammy, Fenyx," says Pasara brightly. "Casting spells in the Power-Up squares was fun. It's burned out now, though. Sorry you missed it."

A) Perception DC 30:
It may only be your imagination, so quiet it is, but *right* as the dark window was shattered by the efforts of Pasara and Farmer, there was a snarl of anger.

From far far away.

And maybe north.

Definitely down.

Really really far away. As if through the echo of the connection that something held with the dark window.

Down into Darkness

Having determined that the group has explored the entirety monastery above ground, the group returns to the one set of stairs that they found which led down.

Aspirant's Path

A flight of stairs descends to a cellar room with alcove-lined walls. Each alcove hosts a statue of an athletic man or woman with a long braid, and each figure is in different pose of martial performance.

B) K:religion DC 15:
The layout of the room is common in places sacred to Irori - the start of an aspirant's path. A series of challenges that form an obstacle course designed to focus on the mental and physical traits and skills Irori demands on the road to self-perfection.

Which means there must be a secret door around here somewhere which would allow one to continue on the path. You get a +5 bonus on the C spoiler.

C) Perception DC 25:
Secret door in the western wall of the room.

If you dare to take it! :)

Male Ratfolk Gulch Gunner 6

A) 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (12) + 13 = 25
C) 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (18) + 13 = 31

"Secret door to the west," Willem says, nodding toward a space on the wall.

Female Human Paladin 6

Perception dc25: 1d20 + 6 - 3 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 6 - 3 + 5 = 24
Akatsuki nods, looking in the general direction Willem indicates. "The gateway to continue on the path of self-perfection." She turns directly to the statue of the athletic woman and gives it a short martial bow.

Male Human Spellscar Oracle 6

"Hidden choices suck," Farmer refrains, however, from spitting.

Willem opens the secret panel that he spotted to reveal...

The Aspirant's Pit

A fifteen-foot-high domed room with no floor but a tiny two-inch-wide ledge that skirts a deep pit that drops away into darkness.

Darkvision:
Okay, a 40-foot-deep pit. Still impressive though.

On the far side of the pit from the group, you see a hallway twisting away to the right.

A) K: religion DC 15:
The pit symbolizing the darkness of chaos and the path the aspirants choose to take showing their mastery of the chaos around them.
B) K: engineering DC 15:
There are no hazards that would further inconvenience someone who is passing through the room other than the obvious hole in the floor.

Nor does there seem anything that would prevent magical means of bypassing the hazard (like fly or air walk).

You'd guess an Acrobatic 15 to traverse the ledge or a Climb DC 20 to get out of pit.

Male Ratfolk Gulch Gunner 6

Willem peers into the pit, then sends a stream of spit between his teeth into the depths. "The drop's not likely fatal, though you'll regret taking it. The ledge is passable, though not easily done without arcane assistance."

Male Human Spellscar Oracle 6

"Do we have enough rope?"

Female Human Paladin 6

"The pit symbolizes the darkness of chaos and the path
one chooses to show mastery of the surrounding chaos."

She moves out onto the ledge. Takes a step, then another, then... walks up the wall, takes out a length of rope. "One at a time? Two? I can help you get across."

Male Ratfolk Gulch Gunner 6

Willem walks out over the pit, and holds his hand out for the rope. "I believe I can fashion an appropriate device, Miss Yume."

With K:Engineering can Willem make a halfway decent rope bridge?

With Willem's skill, I think that will work well.

After a bit of time, some creative piton use, Willem constructs a bridge that allows the others to cross over the pit one at a time.

The hallway beyond splits into two passages, one to the right and another that curves around to the left. When the right turn proves to immediately lead to another room...

The Aspirant's Challenge

Sixteen five-foot-wide alcoves, each containing the crumpled remains of a sparring dummy, fill this room.

A) K: religion DC 15:
Blindfolded to force the aspirant to use all of their senses, they were challenged to move through the room and topple all 16 of the dummies as quickly as possible.
B) Perception DC 30:
And a secret door in the upper right corner of the room. Stonework that should slide out of the way if the unlight sconce above is pushed.

Male Ratfolk Gulch Gunner 6

1d20 + 13 ⇒ (8) + 13 = 21

Seeing nothing of value or danger in the old training room, the group is able to the take the left turning hallway which leads to...

The Aspirant's Pool

The majority of this long chamber is taken up by a large, deep pool of calm water. Irregularly shaped ledges and an artificial island of stone rise from the waters.

A) Perception DC 20:
Deep in the water, there seem to be oddly moving currents.
B) K: planar DC 18:
The odd eddies in the water would be an indication of water elementals!

Which were probably asked to attack anyone who disturbs the surface of the water. But they've probably been lonely for a *long* time.

Male Ratfolk Gulch Gunner 6

"Something hides in the water," Willem says.

Female Human Sorcerer/6
Black Willem wrote:
"Something hides in the water," Willem says.

"Of course there is," says Pasara resignedly.

Male Human Spellscar Oracle 6

"Probably elementals," Farmer says. taking 10 on his K: Planar

"ஹாய், யாருக்கும் உள்ளது?"

Aquan:
"Hi, is anybody there?"

Water bubbles up from the depth, carrying words thick with the substance. "நீங்கள் தண்ணீர் தொடாமல் கடந்து விட பேச ?"

Aquan:
"You speak rather than passing without touching the water?"
Sense Motive DC 15:
Maybe a hint of curiosity in the water-logged speech.

Male Human Spellscar Oracle 6

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

"நான் அது ஒரு நீண்ட நேரம் ஆகிறது கற்பனை, மற்றும் நீங்கள் பதிலாக சலிப்பாக. நான் நீங்கள் பேச விரும்புகிறேன் என்று நினைத்தேன். நீங்கள் என்று நீர் இருப்பது பிடிக்கும்? நீங்கள் இருக்க வேண்டும்Do? நீங்கள் பதிலாக வேறு எங்காவது இருக்குமா?" Farmer burbles back at the pool.

Aquan:
"I imagine it's been a long time, and you're rather bored. I thought you might like to talk. Do you like being in that water? Do you want to stay? Would you rather be somewhere else?"

There is a little bit of quiet. Then bubbles - from all over the pool.

A) Perception DC 15:
Okay, three sets of bubbles. So at least three lurking water elementals.

The same water-logged voice. "என்ன சலித்து?"

Aquan:
"What is bored?"

A different voice, deeper. "என்ன அது எங்கள் வீட்டில் பிடிக்காது எங்களுக்கு வேண்டும்?"

Aquan:
"What does it want us to not like our home?"

A quiet voice, barely heard above the popping and bubbling of the others. "அவர்கள் நாம் புகார் செய்தால் நம்மை ஒன்றும் செய்ய போகிறாய்?"

Aquan:
"Are they going to hurt us if we complain?"
