This is a discussion board for Dragon's Demand pbp so that you guys can figure out your characters and backgrounds.
- Quick mechanics overview:
- 25-pt buy
- Race: any 0 HD
- Traits: any 2
- starting level: 1
- starting wealth: per class
- Books allowed: any
Mechanically I'm trying something new to see if it works. Feel free to take mechanics from any Pathfinder book (Paizo or third party). Or feel free to come up with stuff on your own. Either way please run it by me first - I'm all good with my players being powerful, but I'd prefer not having one player outshine the others.
Story background: The majority of the story will take place in a small village in the boondocks of Taldor. All of you were hired as guards in the city of Cassomir by a trader named Silas Gribb to protect his caravan on the way to Yanmass. Hijinks ensue.
- For player knowledge but not really character knowledge:
- The end goal of the adventure is fighting a dragon.
- Befriending or greatly antagonizing NPCs will be of benefit for your character - both in the form of in game assistance and mechanical boon. I suggest a characters that will have a desire to interact with other and the world. But it is not required.
Please ask questions and I'll answer to the best of my ability. :)

Considering a human archer Paladin of ... Sarenrae or Iomedae, probably from Tian via the north. Will flesh out later. oh, and yes, human, not elf, despite the ear in the picture, human.
Oh, since class changed, name may as well.
Yeah, I guess I don't have much of anything set yet.
Okay, name set. Probably. And with name, probably Sarenrae.

What is the surrounding countryside like? Or mote to the point, what type of terrain will likely be encountered during the campaign?
Underground in the beginning, a decent amount of urban, swamp and a tiny bit of forest.
When you say standard starting gold does that mean:
1. Maximum?
2. Roll it?
3. Average?
Hmm, for this we will go with maximum, on the ground your employer paid you a good chunk of your wages ahead of time.
Cassomir is a Metropolis with means you can find most non-magical items for sale, including guns. For magical items, any items up to 16,000 gp would have a 75% chance to be found for sale relatively easily and spellcasting services up to 8th level spells.

Welcome to your first Pathfinder game - I will attempt to not f!$* it up for you. (... and until JSR told me otherwise, I thought Jalopy was a fantastic tengu name...)
For those of you have played with me, I'm doing a little bit of a change to loot. For some of the story you may be in areas where you can't sell loot (like the middle of a dungeon) or in a place that can't afford to purchase more expensive items right away. So - I will do LOOT POSTS as normal, and disputed claims will continue to be resolved first. However, if you can't sell gear yet, instead of the players immediately getting the GP value of the items there will be a list of unclaimed group items. These items can be used by any person until you get to where you can sell them. Alternatively, any of those items can be claimed on the next loot post, adding to a player's claimed loot total as normal.
If this doesn't work I'll adjust, but I want to try it out in this shorter game.
And for all my players - since they haven't added it to the "How to format your text" spoiler Paizo gave us the ability to strikeout speech. [s] tag :)

Aloha Leila,
Welcome to the game. :)
I'm Gavin.
BTW, If anyone is particularly interested in playing a Paladin or a Ranger(yeah, kind of become my Pathfinder traditional), please feel free to so post. I'm not married to the idea of either class yet, and could even consider others before I finalize my character.
Akatsuki no Yume |
No worries Gerald, helps to push me a little more into the Paladin camp. Ack, 2 skill points per level? what? *cough* phht sputter. No, I'm fine, really. .... ... xp
And seriously, even if I went with a full archer ranger, I think there would be quite a bit of difference what with the build I'd be using.

And now with my other pbp on hold for a player moving internationally... I have nothing to do other than harass you all.
- Looking through what I have so far:
- Male ratfolk gunslinger (gulch gunner) - ranged, but often in melee
- Female tengu rogue (swordmaster) - melee, dex build, skills galore
- Human/halfling male oracle of some ilk
- Human female paladin - ranged
- Human Spell-less ranger
- cleric or not cleric
Black Willeim you look good, barring any changes you make to avoid redundancy.
If you have spells please link the to the prd (if they are in the core books) or the pfsrd if they are non-core. If the spell isn't avaliable online please email me the full version and toss a descriptor up on it.

Now with more information! Mana, please feel free to take a gander and let me know if I've missed anything/marked something incorrectly.
I really like some of the details that you have in the background... esp leaving the unfinished books where-ever when she gets bored with them.
Overall, your character looks good, just a few things I saw when I was going through it:
You get to pick 3 more languages and tengu have a all non-secret languages available to them. Some that will be useful in-game are Draconic and Aklo. Shae also makes an appearance. And Golarion is like Earth in that all of the human ethnicities have their own languages - although Taldane (common) will be the most prevalent in this adventure. Let me know what kind of languages you'd like or if you just want a list of ones that will be useful :)
Skills: (I think we actually have the same number for Perception and Stealth, you just were keeping the racial bonus separate)
Disable Device +9 [+1 rank, +3 class skill, +4 Dex, +1 trapfinding; no penalty for lack of tools (-2)]
Perception +6 (+7 vs traps) [+1 rank, +3 class skill, +2 racial]
perform - need to select the type: act, comedy, dance, keyboard instruments, oratory, percussion instruments, sing, string instruments, wind instruments, or other (which is anything not covered by those)
Stealth +10 [+1 rank, +3 class skill, +4 Dex, +2 racial]
Traits:
which Knowledge skill are you picking for this trait?
chavamana |
:) - You don't have to put the breakdown of the skills, I just did that because I was making sure I'd included all of your bonuses. Normally i'd just suggest keeping the not always active modifiers (like the perception/trapfining one) on the sheet - but whichever is easier for you
Nature is a useful skill for this adventure.
There will be a little bit of a overlay in Bakuu and Faf having the same knowledge skills - but it does make sense... and means you'll have two chances to identify some of the weird things that pop up in the adventure.
Lets see -
Aka has K:religion
Willem has K:dungeoneering
Bakuu has K:local/K:nature (only ranks in local currently)
Faf K:nature (currently)
K:history and K:planes will come up a few times. K:geography as well (but less so). There is also a few engineering rolls in the beginning and the end, but you will *probably* survive without making those. There is are some nobility checks, but if no one has that I'll have similar information under a local check at a higher DC.
Bakuu |
Oh, forgot to respond about the languages. If I'm reading right and get to pick three more... I think I'll at least take your two suggestions (Aklo and Draconic), and then maybe either Undercommon or Auran? The former seems more useful for underground adventures... if you don't mind sending me a list of what would be useful, I could look over that also.

In the setting guns are on just emerging. In larger cities some people will recognize them.
That said, in a place where magic is real, pointing what may will be a magic stick will have a threatening effect on people. There are places where guns are more recognizable/common, but Taldor isn't one of them.

Sorry about the pause - but my moving player in the pbp I'm winding up finished (mostly) moving and so we are in the final rounds of the final combat.
To get everyone who doesn't obsessively check on fellow player profiles:
Black Willem - ready to fire (has his guns and everything)
Yume - also ready (this time with a bow)
Bakuu is ready to slashy slashy, and to talk to people and find shinies
Faf Badgerhand and his buddy Azdahag (who thinks this country is far too cold) - are ready... less talking to people, more talking to animals
Farmer Odell - Just about done, including character sheet except for gear getting slotted properly
Dwarven Cleric of Pharasma - I have heard she is just about done, just needs a name and such :)
And unless I hear from one of the other that have an open invite, I think we have our group.
Comments? Concerns?

Recent findings have proven that raptors had feathers. But then, this is a fantasy world, so who knows? I mean, some of the armor I've seen in the artwork is more improbable than a featherless raptor.
