A battle appears to have occurred here recently. A number of charred humanoid skeletons lie strewn about, and a lifelike stone statue of an ogre points at the north wall with an arm that ends in a broken stump—the hand and the barbed falchion it held lie on the floor near the southern stair.

GM mechanics:

Just FYI, I'm assuming only Lefty and Raulzig, both invisible, are at the entrance to the room, though they can obviously relay what they see. Please let me know if the others go down and/or anyone enters the room.

Also, forgot to give you dimensions of the room -- it's 40 feet long by 30 feet wide, with the stairs coming out in the center of the south wall. A door sits in the east wall, 30 feet away from the bottom of the stairs. For some reason, it won't extract the map from the pdf, but here's my attempt to recreate it.

The humanoids have mostly been reduced to skeletons, so you can't tell what they used to be, but they appear larger than human.

Lefty, as you enter the room, you notice in the far corner, hidden by the other statue, a statue of a demon that radiates strong transmutation magic.

Before you get a chance to do anything, though, the stone suddenly seems to melt, revealing a leering winged terror bristling with terrible spines and a crown of deadly horns.

It gestures and a ball of fire streaks from its claws toward the group, exploding in a burst of flame! 30 hp, Reflex save DC 19 for half

The flames erupt around Krokod once, then twice! and when the blasts die down, he stands there untouched, hair moving, in the backwash of heat.

He extends his hand, and gestures at the demonic figure

Yes, Raulzig. I was surprised by its Dex too! The improved evasion applies to the cloak, because it's basically a part of your body. And, ouch, Krokod; that would've been vicious if it had landed.

Round 1:

Krokod
Raulzig
Lefty
Ryarg
Opponent

Krokod's flames start to leap up about the creature, but they die down just as suddenly leaving it unhurt. Didn't penetrate SR

Raulzig, the creature appears to be a massive read: advanced horned devil. You can get three pieces of info about it; let me know what you'd like to know.

As the gnome's spell goes off, Lefty closes with the creature, only to feel the icy grip of fear crush his heart as he nears. Despite being shaken, he slashes at it, surprising it with his sudden appearance and able to find a hole in its armor thanks to it ignoring him. 38 hp; however, its back is to the wall, so you couldn't get behind it. You're in front of it but could move to flank with Ryarg (see below).

Ryarg and Bern lumber up to the thing, and while Ryarg is merely shaken by the fear aura emanating from it, Bern panics, fleeing back toward the entrance. The transformed dwarf slashes at it, but can't penetrate its tough hide.

The devil laughs, despite the blow it took from Lefty -- which seems to start closing in front of your eyes! regeneration -- and returns the elf and dwarf's attacks. Its spiked chain slams into Lefty twice, vicious blows that stagger the elf. 41 hp; need two DC 29 Fort saves or be stunned for 1d4 rounds He bites Ryarg once and then rips his spiked tail down the dwarf's skin, leaving a long open wound that begins to bleed badly. 35 hp damage; will be suffering bleed damage.

Okay, so Raulzig already knows it has some kind of fear aura, fire-based SLAs, stunning blows and regeneration. He'd like to know what kind of elements he's strong and weak to, and also if it has any other special ability.
Raulzig approached the panicking bear and soothed him with a magical touch, inspiring him to do his best to help Ryarg. Greater Heroism on Bern

RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

Krokod can get to position to touch Ryarg with just a move action.

Raulzig, you think the demon is primarily vulnerable to good-aligned weapons and spells, though silver will effective, just not as much. However, it's immune to fire and can shrug cold and acid attacks. It also can cast lightning bolts, teleport itself and, possibly, summon other devils to its side.

If the fear aura is just five feet, both Ryarg and Bern are huge, and wouldn't be getting that close.

RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

Whoops, sorry about that. Bern is still within attacking range, then, though missed the previous attack. What's your reach? I don't see it on the sheet.

Sorry about that. Huge-sized quadrupeds have a ten foot reach. I'll get that added into my profile next time I'm on the computer instead of my phone.

1d20 + 24 + 2 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 24 + 2 + 3 = 47; damage: 2d6 + 14 ⇒ (2, 3) + 14 = 19

(do grapple attempts benefit from flanking bonus? If not, ignore the extra +5. Also, that spell gives an additional +3 for flanking, or makes the flanking bonus +3? Also, does Ryarg's +5 AoMF mean his attacks count as at least silver?)

Bern's claw claw bite:

Flames of white cascade over Ryarg and seem to devour wounds, healing them as they do so..
Cure Serious Wounds 3d8 + 15 ⇒ (8, 8, 6) + 15 = 37

Okay, my apologies again. It turns out that Bern is just large when subjected to animal growth, not huge, so he does only have a 5-foot reach, meaning he was scared off by the aura, then negated by the greater heroism spell. This means Bern comes back to the devil with only the bite attack, but at a +4 bonus from the spell.

Also, it looks like Ryarg is taking one round of bleed damage before Krokod's healing spell takes effect.

Round 2:

Krokod
Raulzig
Lefty
Ryarg
Opponent

Krokod's spell covers Ryarg in white healing flames, knitting all the dwarf's wounds closed before he loses any more blood as Raulzig casts his magic on Bern.

Lefty's stunned, the impact of the blow surprising him even after his many long years of adventuring. stunned 4 rounds total; so 3 rounds more.

Ryarg batters the devil again, though his second claw doesn't seem to get through its armor and it's easily able to avoid the tranformed dwarf's attempts to grab it. 37 hp

I don't think flanking gives a bonus to grapple attempts; the spell gives an additional +3; and yes, Ryarg's attacks count as at least silver.

Bern rushes in immediately afterward, but is again terrified by the devil's fear aura and retreats as fast as he approached.

As the devil's wounds begin to stitch closed again, it snarls at Ryarg -- You hurt me, mortal. You shall suffer for that ... for eternity." -- and turns its full fury on him, swinging its spiked chain and biting and slashing with its tail. 104 total hp! Plus need to make 3 DC29 Fort saves or be stunned for 1d4 rounds, and one wound looks like it will bleed.

Mechanics:

Caster check: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (20) + 17 = 37

Greater heroism should give Bern immunity to fear, which was the whole point, or did it get dispelled?

Whoops, knew I should have looked it up! (Actually, I did; knew I should have done more than skim the spell.) I misinterpreted Ryarg's comments as saying Bern got a +4 to the save. Will retcon again. Bern's bite did hit, so add 16 hp damage to the devil. Bern is in melee range.

That's fine; you've got A LOT of spells and abilities to account for :)
Raulzig didn't like to leave the stunned Lefty in the fray, but at least he felt better now that Krokod was near him. He took a step forward, aimed his crossbow and released a barrage of bolts at the devil, hoping to distract him from unleashing his wrath on poor Ryarg.

Was waiting on Ryarg. However ... retconned in 22 pts of damage from Bern's bite attack last round.

Round 3:

Krokod
Raulzig
Lefty
Ryarg
Devil

Krokod again summons his healing energy, a warm energy washing over the group, knitting wounds closed. However, some dark force in Ryarg's wounds seem to resist the energy, the transformed dwarf gaining no benefits from the magic.

Two of Raulzig's arrows hit the devil's shoulder in a tight cluster, though the other two seem to just miss the chink in the creature's armor. 41 hp; I'm assuming you used cluster shot.

As Lefty tries to regain his wits after the punishing blows stunned 2 more rounds, Ryarg and Bern both manage to land a claw attack, drawing long wounds on the devil 40 hp total, though they begin to heal almost instantly.

Roaring in frustration, the devil lashes out again, pummeling Ryarg with its chain as it bites and slaps with its tail at Bern. The chain slams into the dwarf three times, powerful blows that leave him realing. 55 hp, plus 7 hp bleed damage; need 3 Fort saves at DC 29 or be stunned for 1d4 rounds Bern's tough hide, however, manages to blunt the devil's other attacks, leaving the bear unharmed.

Unless Krokod can get through that spell resistance on Ruarg's wounds, he'll be going down this round.

Yeah, that spell resistance is killing me...
or more accurately, killing Ryarg. Let's give it another shot

He eyes his foe, trying to learn more of him.

Knowledge planes 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (7) + 20 = 27

Then intones the words of fire, and tries to heal Ryarg

Heal Spell, will cure (if it works) 150 hitpoints and remove bleed effect.

Krokod, you know devils can deal infernal wounds. The damage one causes with its tail causes persistent, bleeding wounds. Bleeding caused in this way is difficult to staunch. Typically, a DC 26 Heal check stops the damage, and any attempt to heal a creature suffering from an infernal wound must succeed on a DC 26 caster level check or the spell does not function. Success indicates the healing works normally and stops all bleed effects. This devil being larger than most, it may be equally more difficult to stop.

However, that will in fact successfully heal Ryarg.

Raulzig will reactivate his Luck ability, as a swift action, which will persist for 3 rounds.
Raulzig inches closer to the melee team moving forward to be within 30ft of everyone, likely 3 steps up and 1 step to the left.
and attempts to give second wind to the team by casting Haste.

Round 4:

Krokod
Raulzig
Lefty
Ryarg
Devil

Krokod's spell goes off in a burst of flames and Ryarg's wounds instantly begin to knit closed as Raulzig casts a spell that lends speed to everyone's actions.

As Lefty continues to recover, Ryarg and Bern lay into the devil once again, and with a soul-rending scream, it suddenly disappears, damaged beyond its ability to stay on this plane.

Sorry, one of these days I'll remember to check if massive damage from a later player will be enough and not worry about earlier players. That said, the dot seems to keep disappearing from this bad boy. I will try to post daily, however, so I'd just ask to check daily even if it doesn't seem like it's updating.

As a reminder, the description of the room: A battle appears to have occurred here recently. A number of charred humanoid skeletons lie strewn about, and a lifelike stone statue of an ogre points at the north wall with an arm that ends in a broken stump—the hand and the barbed falchion it held lie on the floor near the southern stair. A door opens to the east.

Ryarg sniffs the charred remains to see if any warmth remains in them.

"I was not expecting a devil here. And a powerful one at that", Krokod shakes his head.

There's no warmth remaining in them, Ryarg.

Once he comes to, Lefty says, Looks like there are many interested parties, here. If there are devils interested in the torc, it must be powerful, indeed.

Feeling a little sheepish about underestimating the devil, he'll take 6 rounds to heal himself with a wand.

CLW: 6d8 + 6 ⇒ (5, 3, 5, 1, 1, 2) + 6 = 23

5 more. 5d8 + 5 ⇒ (6, 6, 2, 1, 3) + 5 = 23

Healing: 10d8 ⇒ (4, 1, 6, 5, 7, 1, 8, 1, 3, 7) = 43 takes 9 charges

Healing Bern: 10d8 ⇒ (4, 3, 5, 7, 3, 1, 1, 5, 8, 6) = 43 takes exactly 3 charges

Krokod eyes the wand use, "Next time, if you like, Lefty, I can heal you instead."

My foolhardy mistake cost you enough magic, already, friend. I should have used some magic of my own, but I thought we could just slay it outright. I should have known better. Besides, these things are cheap.

He stows the wand back in his belt, grabs his weapon, and takes 10 (30) looking around the room.

If that devil has any allies looking for the torc, they know we're here, now.
