Plugg. That a~+*#&$.
He arrives in time to help Gezza and Sicarius up on deck. He thinks about trying to dry them off, but realizes that probably won't do much.
"What happened?"
Budos Kaloz |
"Weird little half squid things raided our ship, tried to pull me into the drink and they did get Gezza, but Brood and Nim got him back quick like. We best make a patrol as a group to be sure no other attackers are still on board." Bud taps each person and gives them 'the nod', "Perfect time for someone to disappear", then leads a patrol around the deck. Come on, Plugg, show yerself
Nimrod Simio |
Nim pulls his dagger out of the dead grindylow, then stands up, glad no other tentacles squirm nearby. He picks up the weird creature, and moves over to the main mast, where he proceeds to tie it up for display purposes. "Not getting caught off guard again."
If he gets the time, before another wave of the creatures arrives, he moves to the side of the ship, and keeps watch for a while after. Should anyone in authority ask what in the hells he's doing, he simply points at the dead grindy on the mast.

As you prepare to search the ship, you're interrupted by a horrible grinding/crunching sound, one that even if you've never heard it before, you know isn't good -- the ship hitting something.
The Man's Promise immediately begins listing before it comes to a stop, apparently stuck on a coral reef. Plugg and Scourge start screaming orders and sails are quickly trimmed, as he tries to prevent any further damage. By the time you can catch your breath, the sun is rising and the tide going out and you've discovered the ship is holed in the main hold area B12 on the starboard side near the ship’s water barrel.
Though the ship is not in immediate danger of sinking, she’ll eventually go down unless repairs are made, even if the bilge pumps are operated 24 hours a day.
Mr. Plugg immediately instructs several of the crew to begin dismantling the ship’s deck to repair the vessel.
Early in the morning, even as Jape and Fipps and Narwhal work to repair the hole, Mr. Plugg calls the crew to the deck and takes the roll ... and both Sandara and Badger Medlar are missing!

Brood frowns at the damage. "We could limp along for a bit like this, but even manning the pumps non-stop we'd still go down eventually without repairs." Shaking his head in disgust at their poor turn of fate, Sicarius heads up for roll call. His frown deepens as Sandara and Badger's absences are revealed.
"They get taken during the attack? Who saw them last?" He asks the question of everyone gathered, his tone short and sharp.
Budos Kaloz |
Profession, Sailor: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Bud uses the ship's damage as a learning experience, because it didn't seem that bad to him even though Brood was convinced that the ship would sink without repairs.
When role call reveals the missing sailors Budos can barely hide his anger. He considers launching an attack at that moment while Jape, Fipps and Narwhale are occupied with repairs, but decides his best option is escaping to his hammock for some rest and to plan an attack for that evening.

Cargas groans as he peers around at the damage, bringing his head back from over the side. "Oh yeah, this ain't good. The Capt'n Plugg is quite the asshat for running us up like this. Gunna sink the ship unless we fix it," Cargas mentions without looking at Plugg (who's fault this clearly was).
"Nice work, Plugg! 'Bang' up job you done did here!" Cargas mutters out of earshot.

Plugg sneers at Gezza's offer to help.
"I'll not be trusting some greenhorn swab to take care of the ship, though yer offer's noted," he says. "As for them what's missing, they probably got swept overboard in the storm. Not much that can be done for them now."
He shrugs as he offers the explanation.
Gezza "Redfingers" Viir |
"Swept overboard at the exact time we were assaulted by those tentacled freaks? It seems a coincidence does it not? We're already shorthanded and the ship's aground; would it not be prudent to search for our men? If you were taken, we'd... Well, we might..." Gezza trails off as he realizes this line of logic isn't going to end well.
Budos Kaloz |
Budos looks for any sign of deception in Plugg's explanation.
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Regardless of Plugg's acting ability, Bud eyes this moment as their possible chance for a quick mutiny with minimal collateral damage. He quickly glances at his companions to see if they are ready as well.
Jape, Fipps, and Narwhale are working ship's repairs. Kroop, Aretta, Maheem, and Syl are the lackeys left and we have Conchobhar, Rosie, Ratline Rattsberger Jack Scrimshaw and Samms Toppin to match them, even with a few on repairs. Plugg is next to several of us, so that leaves the questions "Where is Scourge?" and "Do you guys want to mutiny, or go along with the directions of Plugg?"
Cargas "Offal" Shartburst |
"Wait! Who's missing? What you mean they're gone?" Cargas asks again, coming late to the party.
Catching up, Cargas looks if there is land about that the two might have swam to.

No one seems to be sure who last saw the pair, Sicarius. It was fairly chaotic in the midst of the storm.

As he looks, Fipps comes up and says something to Scourge. He heads over to Plugg, who begins scowling as he hears the news and looking around the ship.

Cargas, there is indeed land nearby, which you can see as the sun continues to rise. You appear to be stuck on the edges of a coral reef -- one of many you can see in the crystal-clear water -- surrounding a small tropical island. A huge ridge towers over the island’s western portion. A single raised tor glowers across the isle at the imposing ridge, with miles of jungle lying between the two.
You can't really track Sandara, unfortunately, considering the ship's just been through a major storm. However, since she's not on board, it stands to reason that she went overboard at some point.
Cargas "Offal" Shartburst |
Cargas looks annoyed.

Plugg finishes looking around and growls out an order, stabbing his thumb at the five of you.
"Damn water barrel burst in that storm, and the ape's cage got damaged too. I'm not going to risk that thing getting loose again -- go put it down, then take the cutter and a couple of empty barrels and see if you can't find fresh water and supplies on that island."
Sicarius Brood |
Brood holds Plugg's gaze for several long moments, his jaw working in a deepening scowl as his fists clench at his sides. In the end though, the elf holds his tongue and his blade and turns without a word toward the front of the ship where he scoops up Sandara's holy symbol.
He nods to the others as he stalks angrily across the deck toward the cutter, "Let's go." He then looks at Nim, "And bring the ape, if you can. I know it's important to you. If Plugg's got a problem with it he can fetch his own damn water."
Nimrod Simio |
"...and the ape's cage got damaged too."
Nim listens grudgingly, as more orders fly in the current state of chaos. Of course the cage crumpled, you ass. It's mainly for show...
"...go put it down..."
Nim fails to hear anything else. He bolts down the steps, making sure he's the one who arrives to the cage first. "Aye, aye, captain. No doubt your words would prove true enough, the damage it would do..." Nim grabs up his long bow.
"And bring the ape, if you can. I know it's important to you."
Nim lowers his voice, and whispers to the elf. "More than you know..."
He arrives at Magilla's cage. It's bent well enough, but a hand gesture, and the gorilla finishes it off. The weak metal bars peel away, and the animal steps out of its dirty confinement.
The half-orc signs to the creature.

He then whispers for strength from Gozreh Gorilla Guardian. Cast Gravity Bow, then take on Animal Aspect(Tiger)
The gorilla, in the middle of a good stretch, looks at Nim, then bounds up the steps, glad to be sucking in sea air directly. When he gets there, Nim runs up behind him, yelling, and bow drawn, as if hunting the creature.

'Oh well. In for a penny, in for a pounding!' he thinks, then smiles broadly. "Mister Plugg! Regretfully your leadership will no longer be required on this vessel! Please enjoy your retirement!" Gezza turns and color sprays Plugg or the largest group of his cronies that he can reach! Will Save DC 15!
Cargas "Offal" Shartburst |
"I told him already that I wasn't killing no ape," Cargas gripes. "And I ain't..." His voice trails off, uncertain at first at what is happening, immediately seeks to put himself in between the Ape and now arching Nimrod.
"NO! NO! NO! NO!!!!.." Again his words trail off as the true target of Nim's arrow is realized. "OOOOOOHHHHHH..." Cargas' look of worry is replaced by one of fiendish glee as he understands.
He draws his axe. He knows just where to put it.

OK, I realized that the pirates might take a moment to realize what's going on. I'll give Nim a surprise rounds; then we'll go into regular rounds. Because this is going to be a bit more of a dynamic combat, I was going to split up the villains, instead of my usual grouping of them but it looks like the initiative rolls made that a moot point. It may take me until tomorrow to get all the pirate icons up on the map (and make sure it's clear who's who) but assume most folks will be mixed together since Plugg had everyone on the deck for roll.

Swinging Reposition (Ex): At 2nd level, a pirate incorporates a ship's masts, rigging, ropes, sails, and other such structures into her combat style. Provided she is wearing light armor or no armor, when fighting in an environment where such structures exist, the rogue incorporates them into her movement, and does not have to move in a straight line when making either a charge attack or a bull rush combat maneuver. Once she completes her attack or maneuver, she can reposition herself. Immediately after making the charge or bull rush, she can move 5 feet as a free action, even if the charge ends her turn. This movement does not provoke attacks of opportunity. This ability replaces the 2nd-level rogue talent.

Round 3
"I just hoped some of the smell would wash away before we killed you, Pluggy. I should have guessed it wouldn't because you're rotten all the way to your core. So, change of plans." Gezza steps where he can touch Cargas and casts mage armor on him!

Sicarius Brood |
Focusing on the bob of the ship, the rhythm of the fight, and on his own movements, Brood blocks out the riotous motion around him and carefully weaves a spell in with his blade-work as Maheem and Syl close on him. Careful not to give them an opening and deliberate in keeping his guard up, he hurls an orb of acid toward Maheem's face before following the errant projectile with a quick slash of his cutlass.

Gezza lends his magic to Cargas, who cuts deeply into Plugg, though doesn't put him down. Cargas isn't as lucky as Plugg's cutlass scores a bloody slash across his chest; he's already falling into blackness when the lash lands, at least sparing him from the final bit of pain. 21 hp, plus 3 nonlethal
Plugg gives Gezza a bloody grin, and growls, "You're next, Redguts."
Behind Pluggs, Budos, Nim and Magilla keep up their assault on the blinded Scourge, who reels from the blows, though fatigue clearly is taking its town on the half-orcs.
Brood's ball of acid makes Maheem flinch back, giving him an opening to slide his blade between the big man's ribs. The wound isn't deep enough to be fatal, but crimson begins pouring down his side, staining his shirt and the ship's deck red. He's still falling back, robbing his blade of power as it swings at Brood. Next to him, Samms realizes she's flanked by Slippery Syl and the onrushing Jape, but manages to trade cuts with Syl, though she gets the worst of the exchange.
As the battle rages across the deck, Aretta is overwhelmed by Jack, Rosie and Ratline, slumping to the deck under the weight of her wounds, with Ratline's blade looking to have severed an artery in her leg.
Fipps and Concho remain locked in combat, though the gnome is clearly overmatched by his larger opponent, and looks as if he won't stand against him much longer. Kroops suffers another wound from Narwhal, and looks like he needs to spend a little less time in the galley and more practicing his skill at arms, though he looks to be in no danger of falling anytime soon.
