If you check out my game, you will notice that I have added several extra elements. If you are interested in using any of them, say the word, and I'll supply you with the details. You may also want to check out my OOC thread, where Neil Spicer himself was cool enough to leave a few comments and suggestions. You can find links to both in my recent posts.

Thanks, Jace.
I was wondering if Neil would be reading these. I think I'd be tempted to check out all the threads if I wrote the module. I'm pretty much running the mod as presented, at least this first time through, though I am thinking I could've used stat blocks for the priestess and Foresthawks and even Elyin. I'm tempted to download the Gamemastery just so I can get some pre-fab NPCs without having to stat them myself.
GM JaceDK |
I purposefully underplayed the role of Elyin and the other NPC's, and removed the Foresthawks all together. I'm not much of a fan of NPC's who could end up stealing the PC's thunder, and they didn't seem to serve any real purpose. Elyin offered sage advice in the heat of battle - like suggesting to use the tent or the fire-pits, and the cleric cast a few lesser restorations after the combat to remove some of the poison ability damage.

How are you guys feeling about the game so far? I know Kreg's out of town/just getting back, but I feel like we've been going pretty slowly.
Is it just trying to figure out what's going on with/how to beat the swarms or is there something else that needs to be discussed?
I know I've not been posting every day, but I do want to give everyone a chance to respond before I post something again. I'm wondering whether it might go better with another player (or two). I had six (now down to five) players in the other PBP I'm running and I'm feeling that while I don't mind DMPC'ing a character in that, it seems like a bigger deal here -- it's 25 percent of the group, after all.
Thoughts?

Im digging the game so far. It has been a bit slower then I was expecting when you initially said that you required a post a day at least. But then again most of the PBP's Im in right now have slowed down lately. Which seems to be the result of the summer coming to a close. Vacations and preparations for school being the main culprits.
The swarm is quite frustrating! haha! Just wish I had prepared more area effect spells and the damn crowd would get out of the way! But its not something that I think is outside of our abilities.
Help or hindrance? More players could be exactly what we need to breath more life into the game or they could be more people to slow it down. That choice is up to you and I'll respect it either way.
Kregimie |
I think the game is going just fine. The characters haven't all gotten to know each other yet (or know that they will be working together in the future yet), but I assume that is around the corner. The battle with the swarm and the inability to affect them has slowed things down a bit, but I think once we get past it and start interacting as a group things will pick up. I'm good the way we are, but that's just my two copper pieces.

OK, guys, thanks. We'll continue on.
Also, Koremar, you may want to be careful. I'm editing this story for the paper tomorrow and note the girlfriend's name:
Castillo-Mota pleaded guilty last month to arson, a felony, admitting he set the Nov. 1 blaze at 501 N. Seventh St. that damaged the Happy Garden Chinese Restaurant and the apartments above it because he was unhappy with his ex-girlfriend, Katery Pacheco.
Perp'll be out of jail in two years and he sounds like the jealous type.
Koremar Auvrealylth'Hel |
haha! Hilarious! Since he likes fire so much we'll see how much he still wants to see Katery after dealing with Koremar's burning gaze

Hi, just a quick question from the peanut gallery.
Why didn't the Wall of Thorns disappear when Jessarae cast her Dispel Magic? Her roll was more than enough to beat Tenzikel's Caster Level.
I was delighted when she cast the spell, mostly because it took my own oracle almost all of the fight to remember his own Dispel Magic, and was somewhat puzzled that it didn't have any effect.

It did disappear (I still have to update the map, but I think that was reflected in the description). I'm actually more baffled why this wall doesn't act like wall of stone, etc. and have an instant duration once cast, but oh well. Probably good it did, though, since otherwise I think it could have killed my poor players.

When she has connection she posts pretty regularly and sometimes multiple times in the same day. but twice in two weeks is going to be frustrating as we go on and especially if when we get into combat. She hasnt posted under any of her aliases since the 8th. Doesnt look like theres a way to send her an email either.

Yeah, it's the second time I've had to make that decision. I hate doing it, but in my half a year or so of doing PBP, I've found it requires such a careful balance to succeed.
I like to give everyone a chance to post before I reply as a DM (especially in combat, and especially with only four players), but if I don't reply quickly, everything slows down. Then it can just become a vicious cycle where everyone's waiting longer and longer and losing interest.
Anyway, hopefully we can again get this back on track and going a little more quickly.

Hey all, I'm going to put Bilbo's question to a group vote: Hey Mott, I haven't been feeling Asbjorn at all. Would it be okay if put someone else in his place. It has started to feel like we have the same character with him and Abbie. I would really like to re-submit a gunslinger. If this is an issue, I totally understand. But if it is not, I will have him together promptly. It will be a couple of days before things slow down, but I will be back soon. Thanks, Bilbo.
Considering this is a one-shot adventure, I'm fine with switching out Asbjorn (it'd be a simple retcon, just acting like Asbjorn was never there, not writing him out and introducing a new character), but I want it to be fair to everyone certainly. If you'd rather let me know your thoughts privately, you can email me at ruethday (at) ptd. net.
Stiehl9s |
Im fine with him switching out. I could Asbjorn taking off to find his friends killer before the Queen's army takes over the land. And maybe we just happen to meet said gunslinger en route to Devarre's? Or however you all want to do it. Either way Id rather he was playing something he wanted to.

Could be my fault too, as we both have an animal companion. If it's a critical factor, I really don't mind switching the domains and remove the AC.
On the other hand, I cringe a little at the whole gun thing in Pathfinder, but it's way more important to me that all have fun playing, including the DM.
I'm not sure I'm helping... I'm fine either way.
motteditor RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16 |
Yeah, I'm actually not a big fan of the guns. I probably wouldn't allow it if it were an ongoing campaign, but I thought it would be interesting to at least see the class mechanics in this case.
As far as I'm concerned, go with a character you'll enjoy, Bilbo. I'm going to retcon it a little to say Asbjorn and Bror took off in a separate direction in the morning while Abigail, Kregimie and Koremar continued on to try to find Devarre.
