Male Human (Ulfen) Cleric 4

Agnar mounts up, taking a moment to lean over his horse's neck and speak soothingly to her. "There's a bit of a conundrum: we're going to have to get our mounts used to the smell of wolves. That wolf, anyway. The girl's a bit skittish."

He falls into file with the rest.

Male Kobold Sorcerer 4 (red dragon bloodline)

Looking slightly askance at the shopkeep, unsure if he's joking, an idiot or trying to communicate in some unknown tongue, Kereek nods at Jon's offer. "I ride with Big Hero Jon in wagon. No eat horses. Horses taste bad." He says the last part very slowly as if the shopkeep is a half-wit.

Male Human Paladin 4 (HP 30/30)

Jon, agreeing with Agnar's advice, takes time to let his horse get familar with Prazil, Fang and Kereek.

Handle Animal 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9

"My apoligies, it seems we will be delayed. My horse is taking longer than I expected to get used to our unconventional friends."

Male Kobold Sorcerer 4 (red dragon bloodline)

"Kereek make friend with horse! See? See?" Kereek slowly approaches the horse, making low clicking noises to calm the beast.

Note, some of my descriptions feel a little stilted here, but I'm trying to also introduce the sites to our new players. If any of the new folks want to interact with those sites, please feel free.

The horse seems to pick up Jon's nervous energy and balks a bit at first, but Kereek is eventually able to calm it enough that it settles down.

Still, it's much slower going than Orin, Treshiell and Agnar are used to thanks to the wolf, pony and wagon -- which causes some difficulty in the rougher terrain.

As you begin by swinging west, it takes you almost a full day to travel 12 miles to get through the heavily forested area and you soon find yourself setting up camp.

The night passes uneventfully and you make far more progress the next day as you cross back into the grassy plains. Traveling west as far you've explored, you reach the strange cairn you left undisturbed last time you passed, then turn south, toward areas you've not yet been.

Another night passes uneventfully -- and swinging wide of the fetid smelling pond where you encountered the giant frogs previous -- you begin south through the plains.

Before you can begin travel that third morning, however, you're awoken to the sounds of harsh snorting and squealing coming quickly toward you!

You'll have a 30 seconds to prepare before whatever is making the noise -- which you can discern with a DC 22 Knowledge (nature) check -- arrives. Note that you're just getting up from camp, so likely don't have armor, etc. on if you don't sleep in it or weren't last watch (though obviously we haven't figured that out yet).

Prazil, I couldn't find your Initiative on your sheet, but it looks like it should be +4.

Kereek will cast mage armor on himself and draw and load his crossbow. If anyone is having trouble getting armored, Kereek can cast mage armor on them, as well.

Yup! That's cuz I forgot it! It's added now, sorry 'bout that.

Prazil shoots out from underneath Jon's wagon as he hears the raucous sounds, his head snapping left to right and back again dizzingly quick as he tries to identify the source. He blows a sharp whistle then kneels back down, grabbing his shield and hammer. Just as he reemerges with his meager equipment, Fang comes bounding over, obediently lowering his head.

Do you want Fang to just act on my initiative count for simplicity's sake? If not, his Initiative modifier is +3

Speaking of Fang, he has Endurance, so there's no penalty for him to keep the barding on while sleeping. As such, while out in the wilds, Prazil will take it off each morning before breakfast for a short time so Fang can stretch then put it back on as we break camp/set out for the day

Knowledge(nature) check: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9

Yikes. Agnar's not quite awake yet...

Grumbling, Agnar stands up and grabs his weapons, laying his longspear on a stump nearby, sticking his halfspear in the ground in front of him, then stringing his bow and nocking an arrow.

"Sounds like something's coming for breakfast."

Male Kobold Sorcerer 4 (red dragon bloodline)

Kereek will move over to Prazil and cast mage armor on him.

Orin

Prazil
Jon
Agnar
Kereek

As four massive boars break through the undergrowth, Orin's arrows hit the largest, lead beast, though they barely seem to slow it. 13 hp to Boar 1

Prazil rushes to the front on his wolf, throwing himself into the fray, his hammer finally seeming to get through to the beast Orin shot. 6 hp; 19 total

Dashing away from the his new companions to get a clean shot -- Prazil's rush toward the enemy blocked his spell -- Kereek casts and suddenly a vivid spray of colors shoots from his hand. It touches three of the boars and suddenly they all fall to the ground, not moving.

The final wild hog continues its rush forward Prazil, you can get an attack of opportunity, toward Jon, but the young nobleman is able to avoid its wicked looking tusks.

Well, at least Agnar gets time to rub the sleep out of his eyes...

With the fight pretty much over, Agnar will draw his dagger and set to dispatching the unconscious boars, then start skinning, gutting and cleaning the carcasses. Some salt from our supplies and a makeshift smoker will see the party some ham and bacon for their travels.

Male Kobold Sorcerer 4 (red dragon bloodline)

Seeing the pigs down and dispatched, Kereek lets out a wild WHOOP! and begins dancing around with his hands in the air. "Kereek make bright bright magic! Hooray!"

If he is struck by the boar before his turn he will also swift action lay on hands. 1d6 ⇒ 1

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

Before the boar has a chance to do anything, Orin and Jon slaughter the beast, leaving Agnar to slaughter the three unconscious boars.

Feh!

Male Kobold Sorcerer 4 (red dragon bloodline)

Seeing the dead boars, Kereek changes his tune. "Kereek eat tasty pig tonight! Lots lots tasty pig to eat! Hooray!"

Male Human (Ulfen) Cleric 4

"Lots to eat is right. More than enough for this group. We'll probably be bringing some back to Taerine for her larder. Thanks be to Old Deadeye for running them into our camp so conveniently. Saves us the trouble of tracking them."

m kobold cavalier (beast rider) 4

Prazil affectionately ruffles the fur at the base of Fang's neck then deftly slides down off the wolf's back. With a pat to his flank, Fang then bounds off for the little while before Prazil puts the barding and saddle on him.

Prazil then approaches Agnar, his smile bright. He performs his overly exuberant victory dance of joy briefly, his arms waving in the air as he springs from one foot to the other, before he calms himself. He yips at Agnar to catch the hunter's attention then proudly points at one of the dead boars, triumphantly declaring one of the few big feet words he knows:

"Bay-Cone!"

Male Half elf Spell-Less Ranger 4

Orin will pull out his skinning knife and set to work skinning and dressing the other carcasses, helping Agnar with his gory task. As Prazil does his happy dance, Orin chuckles "Yes, my friend. We will be having bacon with breakfast. Everything is better with bacon."

Male Kobold Sorcerer 4 (red dragon bloodline)

Gathering his dignity again, Kereek smiles his lopsided toothy smile at the bigger members of the party. "See? See? Kereek mighty big hero kobold! Make magic! Mighty mighty!"

Male Human (Ulfen) Cleric 4

Agnar laughs, nodding approvingly at Prazil. As Kereek speaks, Agnar replies "I wish we'd had your magic back when the wolves were taking down our horses. It's mighty magic indeed."

Turning back to Prazil, he decides that now is as good a time as any to work on the language barrier. Pointing with his dagger to the slabs he's removing from the belly, he says "Bacon." He waits for Prazil's response, then points to the whole animal. "Pig." He'll go on like that as he works, naming various things as he goes along, occasionally throwing scraps and viscera to Prazil's wolf for disposal.

m kobold cavalier (beast rider) 4

Prazil nods sagely at Agnar throughout his grisly lesson, occassionally grunting in affirmation. When it seems the lesson is done, Prazil nods appreciatively then calls out to Kereek, "האם אתה יודע כמה מילים יש? להם על חזיר? כל כך מסובך שלא לצורך! כמה מילים הם יצטרכו בשבילנו"

draconic:

"Am you for knowing how many words bigfeets am for using for boar?! Am many, many much! How many words am they for using for Prazil or Kereek?"

Male Kobold Sorcerer 4 (red dragon bloodline)

"ממציא מילים חלקי חזיר. רגליים גדולות יש הרבה מילים רבות חלקים של דברים. רק מילה אחת על Kereek ו Prazil."

Draconic:
Am making words for parts of pig. Big feet have many many words for parts of things. Only one word for Kereek and Prazil.

m kobold cavalier (beast rider) 4

"!יולדת ביצה! זה הולך להיות קשה יותר ממה שחשבתי"

draconic:
"Mother EGG! This am for being more hard than Prazil thought!"

Male Kobold Sorcerer 4 (red dragon bloodline)

Kereek nods at Prazil vigorously. Then he heads over to his bedsite and begins gathering up his stuff. Seeing the others butchering, he gathers up their campsites, too.

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

Finishing butchering the boars, you travel south through plains for a day before re-entering heavy, unexplored woods. Two days of uneventful mapping -- it takes longer due to moving more slowly with the wagon and smaller mounts -- reveal nothing of interest in the area, so you continue south, to the border of the area you're chartered to explore.

On the second day, of exploring the area you discover a somewhat sunken clearing, surrounded by the stink of moldering plants and a strange quiet in the sound of birdlife. At the center of the clearing, the soggy ground becomes an insect-infested, stagnant, swamp-like pond, and sprawled at the pond’s southern edge is what appears to be a dead horse.

Perception 31:

You spot a pearlescent luminescence in the trees near the pond, though you can't quite make out what it is, as it's nearly invisible in the sunlight streaming through the trees.

1d20 + 16 ⇒ (15) + 16 = 31

Male Kobold Sorcerer 4 (red dragon bloodline)

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27

Male Human (Ulfen) Cleric 4

Perception Check: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12 Duh...I don't see nuttin'.

"Hmm..." Agnar eyes the dead horse. "Best keep the animals back. The water in that pond might be poisonous."

Male Kobold Sorcerer 4 (red dragon bloodline)

Can we aid one another? Kereek got surprisingly close, and two successful aids would make it a result of 31.

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

Sure, though I'm not really sure how one aids another on Perception checks.

m kobold cavalier (beast rider) 4

Aid Another (Perception: Kereek): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26

I'm not sure either, not knowing what to perceive with the check =P

EDIT: We are sharp-eyed kobolds! buuuut not quite sharp-eyed enough to spot what lurks beneath the spoiler button

Male Half elf Spell-Less Ranger 4

Aid another (Perception: Kereek): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22
"Hey, look. What's that over there?'
Orin says, pointing to the Spoiler button.

Male Kobold Sorcerer 4 (red dragon bloodline)

Kereek peers where Orin and the others point, looking through the trees. "Is a glowy whitish thing in trees? Hard to see with sun. Too bright, much better in dark."

Male Human (Ulfen) Cleric 4

"Where? I don't see anything but a boggy pond and a dead horse."

Male Human Paladin 4 (HP 30/30)

Perception 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Craft: Jerky 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13

Orin dismounts from Windswift and goes over to examine the dead horse to see if he can determine what exactly killed it.
Heal check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
Unable to figure out what killed it Orin says "Better off not letting the animals drink any of the water, just to be on the safe side"

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

Further investigation reveals the creature to be a dead unicorn, its horn broken off at the brow and its body strangely untouched by insects or other necrophages. The stink of mold comes not from the body, which is weirdly odorless, but from the fouled water of the pond.

Male Human (Ulfen) Cleric 4

Agnar, looping his reins loosely on a bush so his mount stays put, moves around to Orin to see what he's found.

"By the horns... Is that what I think it is?"

Heal check: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14

"No rot, and not so much as a maggot. What do you think that means?"

Male Human Paladin 4 (HP 30/30)

"Marvolous!"

Jon jumps off his wagon and walk over to take a look.

Agnar wrote:

"No rot, and not so much as a maggot. What do you think that means?"

"You jest. Let me take a look." Jon responds, not believing Agnar's claim that rot hasn't set in.

haha!

Treshiell remains steated on her horse, watching Orin, Agnar and Jon examining the unicorn. "It is a unicorn, Agnar", she says taking the clerics question literary. "A dead unicorn. What do you think it died from?"

Is there a knowledge check Treshiell can make to learn more about the unicorn or the state of the water?

Male Kobold Sorcerer 4 (red dragon bloodline)

Kereek will wonder over toward the glow he spotted while everyone else is examining the unicorn.
