I'm glad to see people getting into the game so quickly, hopefully you'll be off and conquering the land again soon :P.
Just wanted to say thanks again to everyone, I've had a lot of fun. And maybe if there's a spot open when I get back I'll drop a message and Rupert can wander back in somewhere. I hope you all stick with the campaign (especially you, Treshiell, you're the last original character!), I'll be excited to read up on it when I get the chance in my travels.
Thanks for the well wishes and fun times, see you all around. I'll try to squeeze in an in-game exit post in the next few days, but I'm probably too busy packing and seeing family to really participate.

Thanks, Rupert. Have an awesome trip. I'm envious. As I think I told you in my PM, one of my great regrets in my life was not taking my parents up on their offer to tour Europe for a bit after college. Looking back, I don't know why I was in such a rush to start my career, considering there'll be like 40+ years of that.

I'm not going anywhere :) (except somewhere within the period of 15th june to 10th july.)
Have a great time in Europe!

"Rule Two: Unless you walked in with it, or it's given to you, it's not yours. I don't know how things are done in your tribe, but humans and other races don't like others making off with their things. If you want something, you buy it, trade for it, or ask politely to borrow it."

They're not kender either, but as far as Agnar knows, kobolds are known for sneakthievery and general underhandedness. He'll be pleasantly surprised to have these two prove exceptions to the rule.

OK, been thinking about the mystery traits... Feel free to tell me if you don't like these and we can look for some others.
Prazil, a few options for you:
Kobold bravery: +2 to saves vs. fear effects
Radish hunter: +2 to Survival checks to find food and places to camp
Resourceful scavenger: You're used to making do with makeshift equipment. Ignore any penalties for using items with the broken condition. (I like this one, but let me know if people think it's overpowered. It seems like it could be really big, but I don't think the broken condition is going to come up very often.
Kereek:
Big Damn Hero: You have the self-confidence that comes from knowing you are -- or will be -- a great hero. You get a +1 to Will saves to resist Enchantment spells.
Jon:
I think we'll go with Charming: Blessed with good looks, you’ve come to depend on the fact that others find you attractive. You gain a +1 trait bonus when you use Bluff or Diplomacy on a character that is (or could be) sexually attracted to you, and a +1 trait bonus to the save DC of any language-dependent spell you cast on such characters or creatures.
Prazil |
Man, I really like ALL of these. And they all fit Prazil to a T.
I can't decide, I think I'll have to roll for it.
1 > Kobold Bravery!
2 > Radish Hunter!
3 > Resourceful Scavenger!
1d3 ⇒ 2
The dice gods have spoken, and Radish Hunter it is! Man, Prazil is going to be one legendary hero if legendary hero status is awarded for finding radishes!
Agnar Hrolfson |
Jon then begins to diplomatically instruct Kereek on basic civilized mannerisms, placing extra emphasis on how important these 'rules' are for heroes to follow.
I knew there was a use for a paladin of Abadar in the frontier: etiquette lessons for aspiring kobold heroes. ;-)

My folks are in town this weekend, so not sure how much I'll be posting. They do usually head off to bed three or four hours before me, though, so it's possible I'll still get to get something in at least every night.
I'd say continue to do whatever discussion/exploration you want to do at the fort, then you can head out again next week. Just let me know where you want to go.
Vanulf Wulfson |
I've updated the loot list since our last foray from the fort <Here> and we have some things that need to be identified before we decide whether to sell them or not. Also how do we want to handle the "Store Credit" from Stevic? Do we want to split among the three of us original characters, split it among the four originals (including Rupert), or just use it as needed for the six of us.
Items:
Spellbook (From Wizard's Cache)
Magic Dust (From Kobold's)
Look over the list and let me know if there's anything you would like before I go ahead and split the money.

Selling the MW dagger and silver ring earns the original four characters 56 gold & 5 silver (with one share for Rupert). We still need someone to identify the magic dust and someone to read the spellbook. Can Witches learn spells from a spellbook? If so we may want to keep it.
Orin would like to use 200gp's from the account to purchase a breastplate for himself, if no one objects. Orin will also sell his greatsword and purchase a falchion out of his own funds.
Jon Surtova |
Unless they changed it I believe it's one way. Witches CAN learn from scrolls and spell books. But wizards and other spellbook users CAN'T learn from a witch's familar.
Jon is more than happy to tell everyone what he believes the magic dust to be.

I've deducted the cost of Orin's breastplate and Agnar's Alchemist's fire from the account. You can access the list <Here>

A few notes:
Can we please figure out our night watches and general marching order -- which doesn't usually have to be single file in this case, so feel free to double up if you want.
Also, Jon, can you pull your crunch out from behind the spoiler? That'd help me when I need to find a number for you.
For the new players, we're likely about to enter our first combat. I prefer everyone to post their actions and then I'll play out the entire round. Otherwise, I find I get a bit lost. Feel free to give me any either/or action. I'll also sometimes change your actions if something else has happened that makes me think you wouldn't do whatever you posted (or sometimes just change your targets). Obviously I'll get better at that once I get to know your characters better.
I prefer you do your own rolls whenever possible.
Please feel free to call me on something if I make a mistake, as it's not uncommon. : )
Oh, and Prazil, how'd you get the dice codes in your character sheet without if rolling dice? That'd be really useful for my copy-and-paste "macros" that I like to create.
Prazil |
I think the bbc coding for Profiles and Private Messages have the dice codes disabled, so you should just be able to put them in your profile under a spoiler or somesuch.
As for marching order, Prazil'd probably serve the party best by either being out front or taking up the rearguard.
In regard to keeping watch, he'd likely be most helpful keeping watch in the dead of night when his darkvision would be handiest. Fang'll also stay up with him then, so we'd also have a watcher with scent as well.
EDIT: lol, kobolds w/ darkvision and great minds think alike!
Shadowborn |
In my RL group we've taken up using a diamond formation for marching order in response to numerous attacks on the trail. Seems to allow us more freedom to respond in various directions better than being strung out in a line or double column. Since there's six of us, it'd probably work like one of these two. (had to do a document because the formatting on here kept messing up my positions.)
Agnar's wanting to keep last watch.
motteditor RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16 |
Prazil, re: Fang. I would appreciate him just acting on your initiative. As for whether he's got his barding on for this current encounter (since I figured it was about breakfast time), I'd say roll an even numbered die (d68? d72? The dice roller makes it so much fun!) and high roll means he's got his barding on at the moment.
So watches currently:
? and ?
Kereek (I guess sorcerers don't need 8 hours uninterrupted rest?) and Prazil
? and Agnar
Probably makes sense to have Treshiell with either Orin or Jon. Not sure if they want to fight for it. : )
Kereek! |
Sorcerers follow the wizard rules which states
To prepare his daily spells, a wizard must first sleep for 8 hours. The wizard does not have to slumber for every minute of the time, but he must refrain from movement, combat, spellcasting, skill use, conversation, or any other fairly demanding physical or mental task during the rest period.
So he should be good for an hour of watch in there.
Vanulf Wulfson |
Well my laptop has finally bitten the dust. So this is from my phone. Please forgive any typos.
I would suggest Prazil with Treshiell on first watch, that way she can understand him if he should spot something she missed.
Jon and Orin on second, since we don't need the 8 hours sleep
Then Agnar and Kereek on last watch, so Agnar can teach him Big Feet ettiquite.
Jon Surtova |
For marching order, Jon sits on a wagon which would likely be in the center of his more mobile companions plus since Kereek rides with him.
My opinions on watch...
Jon wears full plate so if he is taking middle watch he would be doing it unarmored. Also I see him as an early riser, so in character that would be his preferance, although he is also the noble knight that does whatever duty commands regardless of practicality or his personal wishes.
He can also sleep in his armor and just waste a lay on hands to get rid of the fatigue for an hour at times when we are in particularly dangerous areas.
The kobolds have an unique advantage in the dead of night. I would suggest one of them taking first watch and one them taking second.
Otherwise we should probably group one caster to one strong arm.
For practicality, I suggest we use this order...
Prazil/Agnar
Kereek/Orin
Jon/Treshiell
Also Jon sleeps in a large 4-person tent... because he can. :)
Prazil |
Before the boar has a chance to do anything, Orin and Jon slaughter the beast, leaving Agnar to slaughter the three unconscious boars.
Feh!
I LOL'd so hard at that 'Feh!'
I ran a high-level 3.0 campaign back in the day (the characters started at 17th or 18th level) and the finale for their introductory-super-cool-combat was a huge Nightmare Beast charging into the field of combat. Oddly enough, it looks like a giant monster-pig.
Anyway, the wizard won initiative and popped my nightmare beast with a 3.0-version disintegrate.
<poof!>
1 second into the awesome combat encounter and all I had left was a small pile of nightmare beast dust.
We lol'd. I cried a little, but we lol'd.

S&+*. Website just ate a long post that I was just about done with (I was even copying and pasting it, but had copied something out of the pdf so I didn't have to keep flipping back and forth when it suddenly gave me a page not found error despite me not doing anything that should have caused it to reload!!!). You're going to have to suffer a bare bones one. Sorry. Damn it!
