Female Human Witch 1 AC 13 HP 8

Anor nods to Eljoy. Then whispers to the girl, "Yes, this way. Stay behind us and hide if it looks scary."

Here is a map

Jeva nods.

Eljoy Skinner wrote:
Eljoy lowers his voice, "Quarry or kid, let's surround 'em. Then close in. Oli and Ady from the west. Me and Reekis from the east. Anor and Jasper in the center."

Is everyone going with this? Who is moving where? Is anyone taking measures such as stealth?

They better be going with it.

Or not.

What doe the colours represent? Blue for the river, green for grass, white for... rocks?

Anor will movbe forward slowly, giving the others time to fan out.

Half move forward each round until further notice/all hell breaks loose....

Stealth: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22

Do we have/need stats for Jeva?

Oh, sorry; Blue is the river, white is clear terrain, green is trees / undergrowth (counts as difficult terrain that proves concealment).

No stats for Jeva at this stage.

Reekis tags reluctantly after Eljoy, loaded crossbow in hand.

Jasper hangs back, not wanting to give the group away with his bumbling.

Stealth, only moving 10': 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Adalwin does his best to creep forward quietly, though every movement is painfully loud in his own ears.

Stealth: 1d20 ⇒ 10

Eljoy starts his swing east. He tries to move quietly, but his armor squeaks and makes him clumsy. A few cusswords don't help.

Move to P18. Next turn head straight for Jasper's 'movement'.

Stealth: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

Oliver tries to follow the plan, combat not being his forte as much as he assumes it is for Eljoy. Heading west, he tries to keep up with Adalwin in going west, and do it quietly.

Move to J20
Stealth 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (10) - 3 = 7

You can make additional perception checks if you like, or just continue moving forward.

Eljoy keeps pushing through the brush, sweeping aside boughs with his shield and holding his ax close by his side.

Stealth, like he didn't blow it already: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16

Bound for O14.

Seeing Eljoy continue forward, Adalwin does likewise. Move to I16

Stealth: 1d20 ⇒ 9

Reekis, Adalwin, Anor, Jasper:
You all notice the vines wrapped around the willow tree that Jasper pointed out earlier tremble in the absence of any breeze … but none of you can see any other sign of anyone hiding in the location.

Female Human Witch 1 AC 13 HP 8

Anor frowns, and lightning takes off from her shoulder to fly up, and then back around the tree.

Lightning Perception: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (7) + 14 = 21

Anor:
Through your empathic link with Lightning you can tell that the bird senses something that it thinks may mean danger in the vicinity of the tree, but you also sense confusion - it doesn't seem to know exactly what the danger entails.

Eljoy sneaks up quite close to the tree. The willow is ancient and gnarled, its roots drinking hungrily from the water close to the bank, its crown of leaves thick and heavy, leaning over towards the river. Ivy-like vines snake around the lower reaches of its trunk. Even up close, Eljoy can’t see anything out of the ordinary, or anyone or anything hiding near or in the tree.

Female Human Witch 1 AC 13 HP 8

"Jasper, can you sense any magic around the tree?" Anor whispers.... I don't have detect magic today...

"Whoa! Guys, is this some sort of murder vine?" Reekis halts and grabs Eljoy.

Jasper moves up beside Anor and casts detect magic, concentrating in the direction of the tree before scanning about, but he doesn't detect any magical auras.

Male Human Fighter / 2

With what little stealth they were using seemingly done anyway, and unsure of what opponent waits for them, Adalwin ventures a question.

"So... are we attacking a vine?"

Female Human Witch 1 AC 13 HP 8

"I truly have no idea."

So what are you going to do?

Female Human Witch 1 AC 13 HP 8

"I wonder what would happen if we just ignored it? "

Can we just go round it? It is blocking our access to the weir and the far bank?

The tree is near where the weir would meet the south bank (if it was complete), but it's not exactly blocking your way.

"Hmm, how about we all step back, I shoot it and we see what happens?"

Sovereign Court

Eljoy stoops to peer at the tree. "Killer vine, eh? It wasn't here before. Must have been planted or conjured by the f*!#in' fey. Take a shot if you want it. I've got a handful of silvers that say you'll miss."

A friendly wager?

Reekis sniffs derisively and raises his crossbow. As he squints down the sight of his crossbow he adds, "Five silvers say you're as blind as you're ugly."

Any objections? Otherwise he's going to shoot.

Female Human Witch 1 AC 13 HP 8

Anor shakes her head at the insanity of the competition. She draws her dagger and steps away from the Reekis, but she raises no objections.

"Jeva, keep back."

"You haven't seen my best parts," replies Eljoy. "Take the shot."

Aiming for the vine? Take the shot.

Reekis pulls the trigger.

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9 to hit, damage 1d8 ⇒ 7

"Aw, for f%!+'s sake." Reekis begins reaching for his money pouch.

The crossbow bolt thuds into the tree trunk (missing the vine) and stays there, stuck.

The willow tree fails to react (except to weep a little sap).

Male Half-elf Oracle 1 (AC: 17 [T: 13 /FF: 14]; HP: 17/17; F+3, R+5, W+6 (+3 more with Taint); Init: -1; Perc: +7 [Low-light vision])

Oliver just shakes his head at the two men, "Shall we take it as a sign from the gods of good, that maybe we should leave this plant to its peace? It has made no move to threaten or harm us, maybe we should follow its example and continue on our way."

Female Human Witch 1 AC 13 HP 8

"A good plan. Let's go."

"HA!" Eljoy slaps Reekis' back. "Try again, double or nothin'."

"Huh, let's just get across the river," growls Reekis as he slaps five silvers into Eljoy's meaty palm.

Me 5sp down, Eljoy 5sp up.

Male Human Fighter / 2

Adalwin sighs, swinging his shield back onto his back and sheathing his sword.

He moves back to where the group had last sighted the tracks, and attempts to pick up the trail once more.

Do the tracks actually cross the river at the weir?

Survivial: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26

Ignoring the wounded willow for the moment, Adalwin casts about the area for tracks. Here near the river the tracks meander and split up a bit – it appears that several members of the group relieved themselves into or near the river, just down-stream from the weir, while several of the reptilian tracks lead towards a nearby clump of bushes, and then appear to return to the weir. There are signs that something fairly large and heavy was dragged towards the weir, but whatever it was Adalwin can’t find it in the area.

The tracks all disappear in near vicinity of the weir.

Female Human Witch 1 AC 13 HP 8

"Looks like they had a boat stashed. Adalwin, can you see anything on the other banks where they may have made landfall, or did they go downstream?"

From here on the south bank you don't see any indication of a continuing trail on the north bank.
