Anor watches and listens to the interaction with interest, but leaves Reekis too it.


The creature stays silent for a moment, and lowers its hand – and dagger – ever so slightly. But then it raises the knife again and barks at Reekis in the same language.

Draconic:
“What do I care about softskin troubles? Go look for mushrooms in the woods!”


Reekis replies:

"This mushroom grows underground, near iron. This is an old dwarven smithy, so we are looking here. If you have seen it, let us know. We will gather it and leave you in peace."


The small humanoid shifts slightly, but does not lower the dagger. It opens its black scaled snout to speak again.

Draconic:
"Ha! Luck you'll need to get the big bad wolf to give up his tasty morsels! Go and die if you want."

Reekis (and anyone else who understands Draconic):
The creature doesn't seem to be inclined to be helpful ... perhaps a diplomatic or intimidating approach could change its mind?

By the way, if anyone who understands Draconic posts to say they are translating for the rest of the group, you can all start reading the 'Draconic' spoilers.

Anor steps forward, crossbow levelled at the creature.

Draconic:
"Tell us the location of this wolf, we will face what we must to acquire what we need."Intimidate: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12

To the others she says "It would appear there's a wolf this thing is scared of, that we may have to bypass to get the mushrooms."

Adalwin listens on in fascination as his companions engage the creature in its strange language. "So it's friendly?"

"That may be pushing it, but it's not antagonistic. We may get out of this room without a fight yet."


The creature either grins or sneers, showing a jaw full of sharp teeth.

Draconic:
“I bet I’m better with my knife than you are with that bow, softskin. What, you rile up the big wolf, get eaten, then it decides it wants delicious me dessert? No, just go away.” The creature seems to be a mix of caution (when it comes to wolves) and bravado (when it comes to softskins) and does not appear intimidated by Anor’s weapon or statement.

Intimidate 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2 Ooo, scary...

Strictly, we don't have to kill everything here we see. Reekis is more a lover than a fighter. It doesn't seem to have the mushrooms, and we've found out about the wolf.

You don't tell us about the wolf, it kills us, then maybe it will come looking for you afterwards as a chaser. We will have to face this wolf anyway for the mushrooms. So you tell us what you know about the wolf, and everyone wins. Only a mug turns down a deal like that."

The small reptilian peers at Reekis for a moment from under its cowl, then yaps harshly at him, and gestures towards the north wall of the room with its dagger.

Draconic:
“Ugh, you softskins are annoying. I’ll tell you then! The wolf is big and bad! Its den is within these walls – that way,” it gestures somewhat vaguely towards the north with its dagger. “Not upstairs or down – I wouldn’t go down if I were you. Or do! Better if you die anyway. Oh, and the wolf can talk. Not proper like, like you and me, but silly flappy talk like those others you’re with. Now go away. Kill the wolf, take its mushrooms, don’t tell it what I told you while it eats you.”

"We have, he's not being very forthcoming..."

"Actually, I take that back. Sounds like the ground floor, on the North side. It apparently speaks common too. Well done Reekis."

Draconic:
[b]"See, that wasn't so hard. Once we've killed the wolf, you can be king of your little ruined castle."


"Yeah. It's a talking wolf. OK, let's leave Shorty to it, head north."

"I agree. Let's go."

Draconic:
"We are going to go now, please don't do anything stupid that would make us kill you."

Jasper waves an acknowledgment at the kobold, still feigning a limp. "Sorry about the mess. Thank you for the information."

Once out in the hall, he will stop the game and walk normally.

Adalwin steps back from the doorway to let the others go, but stays within sight of the creature and lets the others file past him before he takes his leave.

Assuming the thing doesn't attack, Adalwin will wait for the others to leave and then close the door and follow


The creature watches warily until the door is closed, but makes no move against you.


Everyone gets 133 experience points.

Seeing Adalwin cover the rear, Eljoy moves to the front of the group.

"What'd ya'll make of that talking wolf business? Are we going up against some Urgathoa damned werewolf?"

Anor:
The people of Darkmoon Vale seem to be particularly fearful of and superstitious when it comes to wolves – and with some good reason. Wolves in the region tend to be particularly aggressive, and there are many stories (many of them even verifiable) of monsters such as werewolves, dire wolves, worgs and other wolf-like monsters terrorising the area over the years. Ordinary wolves, and even the larger and more dangerous dire wolves do not speak, so it is likely to be some wolf-like monster or shapechanger rather than any sort of ‘real’ wolf.


"Or a werewolf," mutters Reekis.


Eljoy leads the way north up the corridor to the point where the passage turns east. Poking his head cautiously around the corner, he spots nothing untoward and steps around the corner.

Ahead of him a straight corridor stretches away to the east. It is reasonably well lit at the far end, where daylight streams in through two open doorways and the mostly collapsed far eastern wall. Eljoy can see a total of four doors along the corridor. Nearby, near this western end of the corridor are two doors side by side in the northern wall. The nearer one appears to be very slightly ajar, whilst the next one is fully closed. Near the eastern end of the corridor are two open doors, the one on the south wall likely leading back into the courtyard. The other lies just past it, on the north wall.

At the far end of the corridor, standing just in front of the collapsed eastern wall is a broken, headless statue.

"One at a time then," Eljoy mutters. HE moves to the first door on the north side and tries to open it.

The door is ajar by several inches, but the room beyond is fairly dark and Eljoy can make out little. He pushes at the door – it opens quite easily, but the rusty hinges squeak loudly.

With the door open, the room beyond is dimly lit by a small amount of filtered sunlight coming through the doorway and another opening in the western wall. An ancient looking stone desk, chipped and cracked, and the rotting, splintered remains of a chair give this room the appearance of a study. Gnawed bones and rubble litter the floor and tufts of grey fur can be seen here and there. The stench of wet fur hangs heavy in the air.

As Eljoy looks within he hears a low angry growl, and spies movement from somewhere behind the desk.

"Got it on the first try. I hope you're not a werewolf," Eljoy says with a mix of satisfaction and trepidation. "Can we get some light here?"

He raises his shield and hefts his ax.


As Eljoy hefts his weapons, he sees three wolves slink out from behind the battered desk and the piles of rubble in the corners of the room. They appear to be normal sized wolves, but are snarling and growling aggressively.

Everyone roll for initiative!

"Eljoy, lead them out here. Maybe I can treat them like I did the flying things in the chapel."

Intentions, in case bot is necessary:
Jasper will attempt to position himself so that a color spray can hit as many wolves as possible without hitting any allies. If that's not an option, he can bring a dancing lights forth to light the area.

In that case, on his turn, Jasper will use his SLA to cast dancing lights.

Eljoy just wants you close by between the wolves and the others and he wants to fight them somewhere that only one of them can attack while a few of us can. Retreat to the hallway's beginning seems easiest.

ELjoy plans on retreating to J10, Adalwin's current square. If everyone clusters around the hallway outlet we could get 5 attacks on the first wolf through.

Move to Q7 hopefully without the wolves noticing.
