Vincent+Dakash:

Vincent finds a tiny splinter of wood that looks like it broke off the worktable. It looks really flimsy.

- 2 penalty to disable device checks instead of the - 4 for working without Thieves tools.

Retired to Taldor?

His song ends and he begins to run into the fog. Uselessly hanging onto his bow in his bucklered left hand and his Morningstar in his right. Gripping both as a man would a life raft, his knuckles turning white as he quivers in fear.

"Aaaaggggghhhhhh, My eye, My face My throat" feeling the cuts on his face and throat, Seamus turns, quivering as blood pours down his face and chest. He closes his eyes and strike at the nightmare horror, his end is near, and though still young, he knows he will not be leaving a handsome corpse.

The mad doctor wheels to face his cell, and you take the opportunity to attempt to pick the lock. Unfortunately the lock doesn't budge, and now the splinter looks on the verge of breaking.

Seamus +Howard:

Seamus and Howard hears a cruel chuckle from the fog.
Seamus tries to hit the unseen nightmare, but hits only nothingness in the yellow sickly mist.

Seamus:

You feel blinding agony as something slices through your waist, then everything fades…

You feel the sensation something hard beneath you, and open your eyes to see a stone celling. You find yourself lying in a prison cell with the human you saw earlier. You are dressed in brown tunic and breeches, but you have nothing else on you. Your cellmate has his eyes closed, but you can see his chest rising and falling.

More worrisome is the unsettlingly thin figure wearing a blood-smeared doctor’s coat, glaring at you from outside the cell, screaming,Quiet!” And momentarily her face shifts into that of yours.

Behind her is a man that that has been lashed to a splintery work table by heavy ropes. His lips are split and his skin is covered in a mapwork of fresh red lines and he is whimpering in pain.

In the opposite cell is the half-elf with different coloured eyes that was first slain by the nightmare horror and the blue man who tried valiantly to lure the nightmare horror from you. They are both sitting up and alert, but remain quiet.

Your belt pouch is your spell component pouch, your spells are memorized.

Beyond the bars of the prison, you see another figure, unsettlingly thin and wearing a blood-smeared doctor’s coat, glaring at both of you.

Behind her is a man that that has been lashed to a splintery work table by heavy ropes. His lips are split and his skin is covered in a mapwork of fresh red lines and he is whimpering in pain. A ring of keys dangles from the hook of the waist of the unsettlingly thin figure in a blood-smeared doctor’s coat.

In the opposite cell is the half-elf with different coloured eyes that was first slain by the nightmare horror and the blue man who tried valiantly to lure the nightmare horror from you. They are both sitting up and alert, but remain quiet.

You also notice the smaller table next to the one upon the man is bound displays an array of sharp instruments, not designed for use on living flesh: a gardening trowel, forks, several long pieces of broken glass or metal, and the other blade of the tormentor’s sheers. (They can be used as improvised weapons, if you could get to them). Heavily loaded sacks lie near the door.

'Her face took on my face.' His hands shaking Seamus stands, wrapping his fingers around the bars to try and stop the shaking, quickly takes in his surroundings.

Attempting to put on his best smile he speaks quickly and at a nervous pace. "I'm sorry, I don't do quiet well. Why are we in theses cells? How did your face change to look like me? What are you doing to that man on the table?"

He shakes his head, reaching his shaking hand to his face in an attempt to verify that the attack was just a dream. then his nervous banter continues. ""Are you a Doctor? That looks like a doctors coat. But it looks like you are harming that man, Doctors aren't supposed to harm people are they?"

He looks from the doctor to the other two men in the other cell, recognizing them from his dream. He runs his shaking hand through his raven black hair and continues nervously addressing their captor. "Of course your not a doctor, you must me a scientist."

He shakes his head, "Of course you not a scientist, why would a scientist just cut up someone. Are you a priest of Zon-Kuthon? I would think they would be scarier, more chains and such."

Shrugging his shoulders, and returning his shaking hand to the bars. "I told you I'm not very good at quiet. Are you going to talk to me? Or what?"

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

”Oh, you’re definitely next. “ She gives Seamus a slasher smile. ”You could use body improvements. Like you don’t really need that tongue of yours.”

The man tied up on the worktable winks very visibly at Dakash and Vincent, then takes advantage of the doctor being distracted by Seamus’s inane chatter to wiggle a leg out of the blood slicked bindings and kicks her in the chest, knocking her to the ground. He then passes out from the effort. (She’s now prone). The ring of keys flies off her belt into Vincent and Dakash’s shared cell.

”Why, you interfering twerp!” She snarls with rage as she undergoes a horrifying transformation into a grayish humanoid creature, with a narrow head, gaunt limbs, and a sinister, noseless face and turns on the unconscious man, with the blade of the pruning shears in one of her limbs, upraised to hack him to pieces, ”I’ll teach you a lesson!”

Sorry, by the sound of the first really descriptive description of the room I wouldn't have assumed that it was 'low light' if I had known that Seamus would have cast dancing lights when he started his 'inane chatter'

'What in the heck is that thing?' Seeing the woman turn into some kind of faceless monster, and then the keys fly into the other cell.

'She will go for the keys first.' Seamus releases the bars, and humming a few notes he uses mage hand and lifts the other half of the tormentor’s shears and propels it into the cell with the other two men where the keys landed. "One of you get the keys the other defend yourself!"

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

The party hears frantic squeaks coming from the eastern door, as well as the sounds of little paws and something pulling against its restraints as Howard calls for Claude.

Howard takes the keys through the bars and unlocks the cell, while Seamus moves to the tray to grab himself a metal shard.

Dakash moves up behind the doppelganger.

"What do you want with us?"

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

”Well – I wanted to do the necessary experiments prove my theory that doppelganger flesh is superior to human flesh in every way."She rambles. " You see – on the test subject, “ She looks at the unconscious man strapped to the splintered work table, ”I’ve made so many cuts to him using a bladed object,” she then looks at her end of the bloodied, broken shear blade, ”But you can see that my new form turns is resistant to attacks by bladed objects.” She tells Dakash. ”As from your failed attempt to cut me earlier.”

”Therefore my theory is sound and I’d perform more experiments, but you guys don’t look like the kind of material I’d want to work with.”

She then opens the door and the party is assailed by an overwhelming smell of rot and decay and sees in the following room a broad chute extends diagonally through one of this cellar’s half crumbled stone walls. Beneath it lies heaped more than a dozen mutilated humanoid bodies, with buzzing flies. Nearby, a flight of rickety, wooden steps climbs towards the celling – an escape none of the other room’s current occupants seem capable of employing. A2

Dakash also sees a small reptile with a snake-like neck and head, a bird-like body and a whip like tail, chained to a wooden post, struggling to get free while squawking violently, and a black cat chained to another wooden post on the opposite side of the room, giving piteous meows.

Then she climbs the pile of mutilated bodies and up the chute. Dakash tries to slash at her as she goes, the shear blade bouncing off her rubbery flesh.

Checking the garbage pile, Vincent also finds a masterwork viol buried among the soiled clothes and garbage of past victims.

The furnace now lies cold. Vincent looks inside to find several scorched humanoid bones amid the ashes, easily from a half-dozen bodies. The vents leading up and out of the furnace are particularly wide, so much so that a Small creature could easily fit inside, while a Medium creature could fit by squeezing. Regular seams and offshoots within the duct makes the ascent easy.

’Good, they got the keys and the tools.’ Smiling as the half-elf hands the human the key, Seamus slips out of the cell, picking up a piece of metal that looks like a sharpened bed spring. Shrugging he wields it in his shaking hand as he continues the song he was singing in his dream.

’It wanted to prove what?’ Stopping his song so he could hear the retreating monsters reasons for mutilating people. He moves toward ‘her’ as she opens the door and is assailed by the smell of the corpses, doubling over at the smell he begins to vomit.
”Aaauuuuurrrrrrrggggghhhhhh.” ’yuck, when did I eat oatmeal?’ Looking up from the floor to the door, he turns away from the pile of corpses and focuses on the man in the used-to-be white uniform and lays hands on him

Now
Realizing that the items in one of the bags is his, he takes the time to put his own clothing on.

The man shakes out his limbs feebly trying to restore the circulation cut off. "I'm Campre Linweigh. I'm an orderly working here, in the Briarstone asylum. You're patients here, I've seen you being wheeled around now and then but you weren't one of my charges."

'Not one of his charges.' Seamus continues helping the man get loose, "Hmmmm, not one of your charges, so you probably can't tell us much other than where we are."

He looks around the room, "Can you tell us where this part of the asylum is and how we can get out or to the office that might have our records."

Looking the direction the monster went. "Ummm, us the whole place ran by those?" he shrugs his head toward the door the monster ran through.

”We need to get out of the furnace rooms here in the basement – the offices are on the ground floor – though I don’t know if they survived the earthquake. I was doing my rounds when the earth began to shake and the walls started collapsing. Don't remember anything else until I woke up tied here with that sadist cutting me…” Campre replies.

”Doctor Losandro is the administrator of this place – she should have a copy of your records in her room”Campre answers. "The place is run by humans...but I'm not sure of anything, anymore." He adds fearfully.

"Since all of you are patients here, technically you should be seen by a doctor to be examined to ensure you’re mentally sound and get a discharge certificate before we allow you out of here."Campre advises."You seem all right to me, but again I'm not a doctor, what do I know?"

Retired to Taldor?

'An earthquake?' returning to his old self a little, Seamus wipes off his mouth and attempts his best smile. "Well my good man if there was an earthquake, wouldn't your first responsibility be getting the patience to a safe place?"

Winking he asks, "Could we at least go past the offices to see why were here? It might just be because of the amnesia. I can't remember anything for what feels like years. At least if I read my file it might spark a memory."

Raising his arms, "either way, how do we get out of here?" While he's talking Seamus continues reequipping himself,

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

”I was going to the patients rooms when what I presume were debris fell on me. I don’t remember anything else except waking up here.” Campre answers.

”The furnace room is directly under the western courtyard, and there are stairs from here leading to the western courtyard, in the room to the right,(A2)" He gestures in the direction where the mutilated corpses were piled. "From there you would want open the door on the west go past two doors on the right then open the third door to the right to the staff offices.” He instructs Seamus.

”Doctor Losandro’s office would be after taking the first door on the west from the western courtyard, head south then turn right, head to the door on the left, open it, and keep going that direction all the way to the end.”

Retired to Taldor?

Seamus' smile begins to fade as the man gives him instructions. "Good, Go west past two on the... then open third...Doctor who? First..South....Ummm,"

'If we have cups and wands with names we must have known each other, I wish I could remember.' He looks around to the other 'prisoners,' who seemed to be removing their own gear, to see if any of them had been paying attention.

Shaking his head, he tells the orderly "Wait a minute, let me go take a look." Sending his dancing lights ahead, he holds his nose with a shaky hand; and keeping his eyes on the wall instead the corpses he goes into the eastern room to find the steps...blocked by rubble.

Returning to the group and the orderly he shakes his head, "The steps are blocked." Moving his dancing lights he looks around to see if there is another way out.
