Xanya looked around at the small gathering of people. She hadn't spent too much time with others beside Goodwin in the demiplane, he had jrightfully deemed it not safe for others, but these were some of the ones she had spent the most time with. It sure didn't feel like it had been 10000 years since last she saw them. "So, what now? I say we should strike out in a random direction. That'll be what they least expect. If someone willfully tampered with Jovar's spell that is, which we shouldn't rule out when we are talking about forces great enough to take down the great Goodwin."

Xanya looks over at Greebins. Such soft fur, it would be amazing to use it as a blanket. And the delicious screams it would produce to flat it off him. No, flaying is bad! Especially of friends. Flaying animals hunted for food is fine, though it's hard to capture them without killing so you can draw in their emotions, actions and sounds as their life slowly slip away under excruciating pain. No animals here now though, but that does not mean it'll be impossible to get a blanket. Maybe it's possible to use his soft fur as a blanket without removing it from his body. A living blanket would be much warmer and nicer than a dead one anyway. "Greenbins, will you be my blanket tonight? I'll take good care of you." The others were used to Xanya's erratic behavior and strange requests. She was not she about being insane, infact she freely admitted it when asked and was proud of it. She claimed it fueled her powers and strengthened her mind against magical intrusions, which truth to be told, it actually did.

Without waiting for an answer Xanya jumps into another question. "Do anyone have a randomization device? Would be nice to use that. If not, maybe we can spin something around on the ground to find direction? I could use my lance, but it's so large that it'll probably hit someone."

Eleanor looks around while the Xanya goes off on another tangent. She finds an opening in the trees that looks appealing and stalks off toward it. "No need to over think it Xanya if someone is that powerful we're already in their trap. We'll just pick the path of least resistance until we find a lead, like animal tracks or a trail of some kind."

Xanya is a bit disappointed about Greebins' reaction. She thought it had been a great idea. She turns to whisper to Kiki, "Was what I said that bad?" At the same time she telepathically directs Cryxial to follow after the others which he does without saying anything further.

"aww, if the big kitty doesn't want to keep you company at night, I would" Kiki adds with a smile. She likes Xanya, being around her is never boring and she is much more open minded than most of her siblings.

After removing the leacherous grin from her face she contimues"taking some kind of forest path would be a good idea, I initialy thought about crossing the mountains, I am the best climber among us and Greebins is also prety good for someone his size, but it would be suicide without any equipment. So walking till we run into some kind of hint or civilisation is our best bet for now."

the spiderling looks thoughtfull for a moment "finding hints will not be easy, Jovar said that a long time passed since Godwin went missing, so the only one that will still remember are Dragons, Fey, Undead and Elves.
Dragons are difficult at best and more likely to eat us, than help us. Fey don't care much for things in the past. I hate the undead. Elves are our best chance, I think, and they are on relatively good terms with Fey and have no problems with Catfolk or changelings, as far as I remember. Our other source of hints would be delving into temple ruins or something like that, thats something I always wanted to try."

Xanya brightens at Kiki's information. "Elves it is then! I remember this one time I went to an elven village. It was before Goodwin's time. Ah, their screams were beautiful. The look on utter horror and despair on their faces as they realized they couldn't escape only became better as it twisted in pain." Cryxial interrupts in the middle. "Don't talk about such things! They are not good things, you should not do such things." Xanya looks sad at the rebuke. "But... But they were such good memories. And I won't have much of a chance to make new ones of the same kind since I won't be doing things like that anymore. As you say, they are not good. Anyway elves yeah... Quite a few of them know about and dislike Derro. I doubt I could just walk in there as myself. Thankfully I got a magnificent brew to make me blend in. It changes my skin, hair and eyes so I can pass for a halfling, gnome or maybe an elven child. I could also go as a goblin or kobold, but not sure if that would be any better. I call the brew 'Mystique'. It might come in handy when we do meet these elves. Anyway, my point is, I agree that we should try to find these elves. To do that though, I belive our best bet is to find civilization and ask around."

Xanya refreshes the globe of darkness around her. She doesn't want to be in the burning sun more than necessary. Unless in combat she'll refresh it every few minutes.

The Changeling quickly thinks of a way to twist Xanya's logic for the better. "You know the souls of sinners usually end up in the hells, just think about all the suffering they'll be put through in the afterlife. You can do good by showing them some mercy and send them off to their punishment faster."

"I don't have much pre Godwin memorys of elves, they were usualy smart enought to not go that deep into the forest, beside a few adventurers now and then. Drow on the other hand were very fun to play with and they lasted so much longer before breaking. They don't care about each other, like elves do, they care only about themself and their plans, which made it so much fun, when they realized that their plan, every sacrifice, every choice they made, was doomed to failure from the start." Kiki stops talking, realizing that she went on a tangent
"uhm, I shouldn't have to much trouble with the elves, they shouldn't view a single spiderling as a threat and they are rather respectfull towards druids. Xanya can pass as a halfling or a child, but what about Quassine?"

Quassine ignores stories about past lives since he was really not evil from the beginning for he was "defective" within the Mind Flayer or Illithid Hive Enclave he was created in, and then marked for elimination after experimentation.

"I think we should stay here for the night, set up some shelter in the trees, and anyone who can hunt, search for big game for us to eat and use their skins. Then we will have some protein for traveling and dry out skins for sacks and waterskins. I wish we had some salt to salt the meat for traveling but alas, we will have to settle on a day to day basis until can start storing. Once we have the skins, we can be more mobile. As for a disguise, I will do the best I can by hiding my tentacles and covering my head a little. Maybe that will be enough to keep us from harm but will still draw attention? However before we set up camp or leave"

He looks at the spiderling directly and says, "If you think Xanya can pass off as a child or halfling, you are likely confused about what an elf looks like." He continues following Eleanor. At least this one isn't a murder fiend like those two. What was Goodwin thinking?

Xanya shakes her head vehemently in disagreement with Quassine's statement. "I don't like the idea to waste a day that could be used for travelling in staying here. Not at all! The sooner we get going, the sooner we can find clues, information and maybe someone needs help to do good deeds. We might also be able to find food made for travel." she then moves along to catch up to Greenbins. She speaks slowly and clearly as if explaining to a child. She doesn't like to have to explain herself twice. "Dear Greenbins, I did say anyone would mistake me for an elf child or halfling, but with the help of my wonderful potion mystique, I will!

Quassine, the left of us physically left already, are you staying behind?

Quassine nods with Kiki and in his drowning in water voice, "As Kiki stated and I would most certainly agree with you Xanya if we had storage. It will only be tonight, just enough to get protein and at least start the skins for making sacks and waterskins. We will move out tomorrow and start what you suggest but we need to start making the containers right away. I will collect the stone for making tools and weapons, and wood for shelter and fire. Hopefully, there is some obsidian or shale around here."

Correct. That group departed. Technically time is a little mixed up, so it could have been asked, but Jovar has no tools or other things for you.


The group stays in the shadows, and uses the cover of magical darkness to shield some of its members from the sun. The wind rustles through the pines as you discuss staying or going. The quiet conversation echoes quietly in the forest, but sounds are muffled, softened by the pine needles, and wind rushing through the branches.

Quassine looks for stone, but most of it is dolemite or other hard stones, you see no obsidian or shale. This area may have had significant glaciation in the past. You can gather rocks, but most of it is not optimal for flaking or stone tools. Wood is plentiful if you have a method to collect it, otherwise you are selecting deadfalls or breaking off small (wet) branches. There are sticks and twigs and drier wood here and there though.

Quassine looks for wood that has already fallen and looks to be dried out. Anything still growing on the tree will be too wet. Although, wet branches will make good shelter roofs.

When he returns with the stone and wood, "I couldn't find any shale or obsidian so we will have to be creative in weapon making. Perhaps find another way to sharpen the good wood into spears or make quarterstaves? And later after we dry out some skin, we can make bludgeoning weapons?

If we find civilization, we can maybe find some good adventure or work to earn enough to be able to buy the tools and things we need. I can adventure just fine with what we got now, but the things I need to perform better is not the stuff we can easily craft."

Quassine nods in agreement, "However, we can not make tools because we don't have the correct stone for it. However, there is always bone that we can splinter to make weapons? I am just saying, we should get the meat to fuel us for long travel tomorrow, start the skins for containers by letting them dry out tonight and as we travel. In addition, we can make bone weapons faster and they don't have to be perfect. The bones can start drying tonight and continue tomorrow as we travel. There should be a branch or branches around here that will act as quarterstaff or maybe even one we splinter for a makeshift spear, or perhaps there is dry bone we can already use? And we depart tomorrow descending down the mountain. There has to be a civilization at the foot of the mountain or at least there will be a better chance of one than up here?"

Clubs and Quarterstaff's are free. Essentially they are the equivalent of picking up sticks off the ground. (Ninja'd by Q.) Unchained Crafting rules seem to go a lot quicker as well.

"There are many ways of making money that don't require risking our necks. If we find civilization I plan to sell the hides of our prey. At lest whatever is left after fashioning our essentials." Eleanor adds.

Xanya is getting confused at Quassine's insistence. Why make something they don't need? "Each of us already have a weapon, except you Quassine, and I know you prefer to use your fists for fighting. Making crude weapons would not benefit us a whole lot. We all just woke up, we should have many hours left to travel before we get tired and we should make the best of it. I don't think we will have problems seeing if it turns dark either. Kiki can make water out of thin air, at least I have seen her do it before. That should do until we are able to acquire a waterskin, no? We don't have the raw materials to make one anyway."

As you push your way through the forest, moving slowly due to the trackless rough terrain, and letting Cryxial hunt, you make ok time, but will need to determine how to efficiently reach the lake or river.

Cryxial does a great job hunting and brings back plenty of food to feed the group through the day, and a little bit for tomorrow. Mostly rabbits and birds, as well as lots of foraged insects, some seeds, and other edible plants.

To prevent yourself from getting lost, I will need either some survival rolls or a strategy to prevent it.

Kiki becomes very focused on catching squirrels and other food, and after a bit isn't sure exactly what direction you are facing. Even climbing up a tree she has lost her bearings briefly. Eleanor focuses and steering clear of the darkness, notes the shadows of the trees and advises the group to keep heading in the direction of the shadows. It is quite cool in the forest. The wind is kept at bay somewhat, but you can imagine how cold it will get at night. Your movement during hunting and in the difficult terrain will barely get you to the lake before nightfall. While the darkness hardly bothers most of you, it may get quite cold as the sun drops. None of you have fur and you are mostly in your underwear. Xanya is mounted, and Kiki either rides with Xanya or has little spider tip legs which aren't harmed by the rough terrain. Eleanor has pretty thick skin thanks to her hag ancestry. Quassine's feet may be a little more tender, somewhat rubbery, but he is not enjoying the rocks, roots, pine needles, pine cones and other debris.

Making the survival checks would indicate things like sheltering out of the wind, or nestling into a bed of pine needles or against another warm/fur body to help with the Fort saves.

Clearly having a fire will be your best bet and eliminate the need for rolls.

"Let's stop for a minute, it's getting cold. I got a drug that keeps the cold away, but sadly I haven't learned to make it work for others yet." she gishes out a bottle and start mixing in a number of substances and liquids. The contents seems to burst into flame and just as they quiet down Xanya swallows what is in the bottle.

Yeah we were heading away from the lake. I assume Xanya notices how cold it is. Being fatigued until we can find warmth is quite a harsh condition for a barbarian. I hope it is fine to stop for a minute to prepare and consume endure elements?

Just like the running rules, the winter survival rules is ridiculous. Still, staying outside in underwear isn't smart so the check is fair enough in this case.

If we aren't allowed to stop: Xanya Fortitude: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Cryxial Survival + Xanya's aid another for him(she is shielding him with her body after all):
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 Aid: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (18) - 2 = 16

Cryxial's fortitude save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14 (let's hope someone else beats their check by enough to give Cryxial +2 so he makes it...)

You stop briefly while Xanya, works with her vials and reagents, taking a minute to mix an extract which she consumes. She will be protected from the cold, but others will still have a hard time. Kiki is especially not fond of getting cold, her delicate anatomy hates the cold.

You don't need to make fort saves yet. Only when sundown hits and only if you don't have a fire or some sort of protection by then.

DISGUISING QUASSINE

"Kiki with the group's extra clothing and my skills in disguising, I am sure we can disguise me well enough not to be attack on sight in most cases. Of course, we will still draw looks and you will have to hide."

HIKING THROUGH THE WOODS

Quassine sighs, "I really miss the outdoors and the forest in where I grew up as a human. This brings me back to those days before I was forced to change into an Illithid or Mind Flayer. Once I can get rid of this light sensitivity or mitigate it, I can enjoy it more. I understand why my Illithid brothers hate the sun but since they are twisted, they rather destroy the sun or block it out all together than mitigate the issue with Psionics or what they call, "Foolish Magic"." Then Quassine gives the Undercommon word for it.

SETTING UP CAMP

"Since it is going to get cold, I will gather up larger branches near camp to make temporary small structures for us to help us keep warm." Quassine then goes close to camp gathering large branches and leaning them up against trees.

Survival: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14

In real life, these small structures don't take long or more people with experience would have died. The ones that have no clue about survival don't think of it. It only takes a couple of hours to build one and if people help, it will be faster.

Let me know if you are stopping now to prepare camp, or to continue on and make camp at the lake. Making a camp in the heart of the forest is fine, but starting a fire there is asking for trouble.
