*snores*
"Ouch"
I started writing on Tuesday, update is coming today if nothing unforseen happens. Crazy week -_- Did I mention my schedule should be better from early/middle november onwards?

Hells Rebels Tactical Map

Spent all evening with my crying toddler, longest break she gave me was 15 minutes -_-
So delaying again until tomorrow morning - incidentally, that kind of thing is why I stopped pointing out times :P
Sorry.

No worries here, we still like you : P

Speaking only for me now of course, but I personally don't mind if the game is put on hold for real life reasons. But an quick update every two-three days would be awesome then, just so we know you weren't run over by a truck or something!

Toddlers are tough! I hope you get some sleep, GM Mordred, and no worries on my account!

Hells Rebels Tactical Map

Aye. Quick update to let you know no trucks run over me, I can do.

Just to let you know: I'm currently training someone who is to take over a good part of my current responsibilities.
Which means I have very limited chances to actually get posting done, during the day.
On the plus side, I'll be better off once his training is done. At least until they find more new responsibilities for me. ^_^

@Toddler: Just realized she's formally not a Toddler yet, at 8 months of age. But regardless, she's still "hurt" over her upper teeth she got a little while ago, and crawling around like a pro, trying to stand up and explore(by emptying) everything she can reach.
If she does not crawl around needing supervision, she wants to be carried/held. Especially fun because she now feels that bedtime is something she'd rather skip. She already(for about 2 months prior to this phase) went to bed at 8 in the evening and only woke at 11 for a bit of drinking.
Now, it's a constant battle. I carry her around until she falls asleep, carry her some minutes more(to make sure she's sound asleep), then place her in her bed. Within minutes, she'll wake and cry.
Not falling asleep again(I tried letting her cry to see if she'd grow tired. She doesn't.) until I pick her up and carry her around again.

I'm sharing that because at this point, I'm quite open to suggestions from more experienced parents (and I trust you guys more than random people on the internet).
It is though, because basically I wake up, drive to work, do overtime, come home, care about daughter, then go to sleep and repeat. Don't get me wrong, I love spending time with her, but some "spare time" would be greatly appreciated, getting to sit back and relax in the evening. -_-

Not a parent, but maybe make some recordings of you reading something? Doesn't have to be anything all that great, the point is get your voice out. Then loop the recording and play it while she sleeps, let her get a constant source of familiar sound?

As with Boros, I don't have any children. Though I do have some ideas!

Maybe you could find a baby sitter for a few hours, maybe a few times a week, just so you don't go insane (and you get to spend some time not worrying/working! Maybe go see a movie with your significant other or read a book or something?).

Do you have any older family members available? While they probably won't be looking to raise your child for you, I'm sure they can keep an eye on her sometimes! Works best if they are retired and don't have too much stuff of their own to deal with though.

Another possible improvement is simply to get one of those baby harnesses and let her sleep hanging from you for a while. Maybe she'll be deep enough asleep if she gets to hang around for an hour or two - and since it is a harness you could do other stuff while waiting!

Hells Rebels Tactical Map

@Boros: Not a bad idea, Boros, but I'm already using the asoftmurmur wegpage to create a soundscape she likes when it's time to sleep. ;) (Rain, Fire, Thunder all the way, nothing else)
If she hears me or my SO, she wants physical contact instead. We found that out while driving with car...talking, reading, nothing helped, she demanded(yeah, I feel justified in my choice of words) to be held.

@Miranda: Family members are at least 3 hours away, for both me and my SO, so that one's out. Baby Sitter: Honest answer? Too scared. I know most probably do a great job but I couldn't entrust my baby girl to some random stranger whom I'm paying some money to take good care. Plus the stuff some hidden cams unveiled with the profession, I'm not feeling very confident about that option. I may be paranoid, but...I'm too protective of my little one to consider that without knowing the person...(if that was the idea: we know mostly other friends or couples here from when we studied, and none of them have children yet...we're the trendsetters there)

We do have such a harness, and I do indeed, if she's too cranky, let her sleep on me, sitting in my chair, simply reading stuff online(Can't type, getting in such a position would be mighty inconvenient for her.) So again, a great idea(same as Boros's one) that works, but unfortunately one already implemented!

@Both: I still greatly appreciate you trying to help and providing advice!

Random strangers, especially with such a small child, might not be the best idea yeah.

Hmm. I'm not 100% it works for human children, but some animal nurseries have those basically (slightly*) heated stuffed animals to provide some comfort. Have you tried stuffed animals : )?

*Not sure if they are actually heated by something internally or just hugged and then maintain residual heat for a while.

And if all else fails, have you tried the burrito approach :P?

Hells Rebels Tactical Map

Hehe, just yesterday, got a huge(compared to her) plushy tiger for her to cuddle to. So far, not working well, but maybe they need to get aquainted properly, first. I hope so.

@Burrito: Works great when they are still small, in the first few months. No idea if it still works with older ones, but I'll do some research on it. I know she fights it if she's restrained, but maybe after she fell asleep crying, it would help keep her calm in the night?

Though people do sometimes wrap their kids up, I'd think any attempts as such should use those an inspiration (even though the bats are adorable!)

This is a very tough thing to deal with. My son was very much the same. He never took to napping, even when he was very small, and was extremely hard to put to sleep. The long outcome for us was that until about 3 years or so he simply slept with us at night. It was the only way to keep everyone mostly asleep for any sustained amount of time.

Does your daughter tend to run hot? Not need blankets and get sweaty when she is bundled up? My son did, which meant that bundling didn't work, he would overheat. A sling worked well, but yeah, it's hard to do certain things with it on. This will probably sound insane, but here goes. There are back carriers, similar to backpacks. One of those paired with a exercise ball as a seat. You can bounce slightly with it, or rock, which could help put her to sleep. There are also some carriers that place the baby directly in front on your chest. Either would give you free arm movement.

If the exercise ball idea doesn't appeal to you. A standing desk might serve you the same way. You could still bounce or rock her in a harness / pack, or walk a round a bit until she's asleep and then come back to your desk without too much disruption waking her.

She's still too young for this, but what we eventually did about naps was to have a nap time of a certain length, which happened whether he slept or not. It was at a set time, and there was a timer. He could choose to sleep or not, but the nap happened every day at the same time and for the same length. Routine will become you ally as time goes on. Once you can establish a routine, there is far less fighting back, and if your daughter is anxious about things sometimes, turns out our son was a little, they are very good for the kid as well.

Hells Rebels Tactical Map

@Nissim, sorry for the belated answer. Yes, she does run hot. She hates sleeping bags and gets rid of any blanket covering her, too.

Honestly, I think I'm too lazy for a standing desk. At evening, after hours of work, I want to relax. Chill in a convenient chair. Now, I'm aware that it would be a compromise if I am carrying her anyway, but at other nights, shes so tired that she actually does (mostly) sleep. And then I could sit in my chair, but my computer would be at some different place :)

Honestly, one reason I only write back now is that line about the 3 years of sleeping in our bed, something I had to "digest" first. Because I would really prefer that not to be necessary.
I always read that babies are hard to wake once they are well asleep. Well, not going into details, but let me just state that my daughters presence in our bed is negatively impacting the romantic aspects of my life(in several ways: light sleeper, SO's mood...). (other locations ARE an option, of course, but that often feels "forced" in a way of "Hey, she fell asleep, lets hurry", which is not exactly satisfying either.) I really wish we had relatives around here -_-

@gameplay: I do enjoy your discussion, Rexus will chime in later today. Just stating I've not been run over by a bus, but this time, hands-off was half-intended, actually :) (I wanted to let you chat a bit IC, but had planned to let Rexus take part earlier).

All-game post:
Today the veterinarian told me, unexpectedly, that I will have to euthanize my companion of almost 13 years, my housecat Nikita.
She would not survive the weekend, and I will go to the doctor tomorrow to prevent her from suffering.
I am feeling both like crying all night and hitting walls with bare fists.
I will take a while off.
I have no idea. I may need a couple days to come to term with this loss, or I may be back soon hoping to put my mind somewhere else.

Please bot as needed. Apologies.

@Loot!

Most of the stuff doesn't seem too super duper useful right at this very moment. But I'm thinking that we should probably hold on to the consumables, since they could always be handy for some shenanigans later. (And by having them laying around, we'll always have some stuff to liquidate for a rainy day!)

For the weaponry we should probably hold on to the melee ones at the very least. They seem to be of the "here is something in case you forget about special material DR you dummy!" which is always nice. Also morningstars are pretty nice to get past damage type DR too!

I'm not sure about what to do with the two ranged weapons. The only one that could make good use of them is Miranda, seeing as everyone else has either str 10 or str lots and no-one else is proficient with the hand crossbow (I think? Speak up otherwise!). But we don't have any notes of size ... If the shortbow is correctly sized Miranda should probably grab it as a proper ranged weapon. But I'm leaning towards selling the hand crossbow; while it is a nifty little thing 150gp is probably more helpful for the team! The ten bolts should probably be distributed to our crossbow users, if only to have an way to easily beat DR/magic!

The padded leather isn't too hot in general so we should probably sell that one. Same with the bracers - none of us are playing any of the classes that wants non-armour armour (monk, red sonya fighter archetype?) and wizards wear kilts/haramaki these days.

The Silver Ravens are obviously something we should keep for the plot. Also trying to fence them might lead to some very annoying questions!

The helm of disguise is probably far too useful for us to pawn. While 900gp would be nice, this is an item that is so very versatile (and we will probably try to buy it later anyhow!) that I can't really justify selling it. So I'm voting to keep and and to the party shenanigans fund. Also useful in case someone identity gets burned or you want to go somewhere discretely *cough giant bird man* :P

Now the two skill boosting items (ring of swiming and cloak of sneaking) I'm not sure about. On one hand, they are both useful for getting places. On the other hand, they are basically the largest chunk of treasure we have. Hmm. +5 swim/stealth or 2500gp to split? Not sure to be honest ...

Then we have the magical pearl and the wand, did they ever get identified?

But to sum it up, my suggestions/thoughts:

Sell list

Bracers of Armour +1: 500gp
Padded Leather +1: 502,5gp
Mwk Hand Crossbow: 200gp
12 pearls: 1200gp or 900gp

Party Pile

Helm of Disguise
Mwk Silver Dagger
Mwk Cold Iron Morningstar
10 Bolts +1
CLW potion
Scroll of Misdirection
Scroll of Whispering Wind
Scroll of Undetectable Alignment
Scroll of Pass Without Trace
Enlarge Person Potion
Reduce Person Potion
CL2 CLW potion
Happy Fun Cyanide Potion
2 doses of Love Perfume

Probable Plot Items

Evil Guys Silver Holy Symbol
Boros Ring (bearing interesting makers mark)?
Shiny Key/Amulet (gives +3 Fire Resist - so for our melee to ignore bomb splash?)
2 Gnome Code Books
Gnome mementos
Adamantine Puzzle Box (1st lock disengaged)
Silver Raven coded docs
Silver Raven previously trapped book written in dwarven

Unknown
Wand?
Magic Pearl?
Ring of Swimming?
Cloak of Elvenkin?

Which would give an loot distribution of:

Everyone but Miranda: 390gp
Miranda: Mwk Composite (+1) Shortbow* and 62.5gp

If we manage to sell the pearls for full price everyone gets 50gp more. Additionally there are some loose coins not yet distributed I think, but not much!

Thoughts?

* I used the sell-price of the shortbow to calculate the part it took in Miranda's share, which is how I usually do for loot. If anyone minds - poke me : )

Armor
Padded armor? Unless Lily wants it--because it's likely sized for Medium wearers--definitely sell. Aldous and Nissim aren't proficient, Boros and Varuzhan are wearing better.

Nissim and Aldous, however, might want those bracers. A +1 bonus with no proficiency required is never a bad thing, and the bracers can be improved at a later time.

Weapons
For the hand crossbow and shortbow? Boros has a gun, so he don't give a shit about no stinking crossbow anyway, seeing it as a poor attempt to let people enjoy a proper pistol grip in a weapon that their feeble constitutions can manage. The fact that he's not proficient with hand crossbows has absolutely no bearing on his disdain, none whatsoever...

The shortbow, however, is a perfectly acceptable weapon for when a gun isn't feasible, and Boros heartily approves of it!

Special material weapons? And masterwork at that? Oh yes, those are keepers. Give Boros the skull-popper, since that'll give him the full thumpy-stabby-cutty trinity (rofl). The dagger can join those Miranda already has.

Other Stuff
The cloak? Well, it'll make Miranda or Varuzhan much better at sneaking about. Or gives Boros' sorry ass a smidge of a chance. Keep it.

The ring? Coastal city, lots of water, someone'll have to take a swim eventually. Oh, and Boros swims as well as a lead weight at that. So that ring will give him a chance to not test out his super drowning powers. Keep it.

The amulet? If Nissim likes to spam bombs at what the professionals call danger-close ranges, then Boros and Varuzhan would very much enjoy a chance to not test out their super burning-to-death powers. Well Boros would. Varuzhan might feel otherwise on the matter of getting toasty warm.

The hat? Keep it for certain.

If it looks good, the padded leather is strictly better than what Lily is wearing. I'm cool with selling it, but it's not really a necessary 'immediate' thing. If it doesn't look good, Lily may well snub it. :P

As for wands, never sell wands unless you just find the spell distasteful. It's generally free utility.

Aside from feeding the group, Lily has no need of money at the moment, though I'd like to funnel money into her star charts over time. :)

It was agreed Varuzhan identified the items during the downtime. The pearl is a Pearl of Power Level 1, good for one of our spellcasters. GM Mordred needs to tell us what the Gnome's wand is.

Cloak of elvenkind is up to Miranda if she wants to play sneaky. I think it fits her character. If she doesn't want it, then sell it. The gold could be used to buy things like masterwork weapons or armor, or a good old fashioned Cloak of Resistance +1, or another Pearl of Power, all useful things at this level. I'd say the same for the ring of swimming, depending on how fond Boros is of swimming.

I would say Lily should buy a fashionable chain shirt or breastplate. If she's worried about armor check penalties, masterwork studded leather armor would still be better.

I'm starting to assign items using the Loot Table to make progress on loot distribution.

You may be forgetting that being caught in armor is its own set of problems, so having access to lighter than normal armor is its own value.

As for the cloak, I'd honestly prefer it on our least sneaky member, making it more possible for us to not bumble around very loudly. :)

And the ring will almost assuredly come up at some point, whether to make a good swimmer better to aid in a traversal of some sort, or to make a poor swimmer less likely to drown.

To be fair, though, I don't like selling loot until it's already obsolete in some other way. :)

It's a wand of Burning Hands at CL3, with 22 charges remaining.

To save you time, that's a value of ~1000 Gold, or 500 if you find a buyer.

And true...there was more topics, since Rexus also looked into the coded documents. I did not bring it up because you had not decided what to do with the loot yet ;)

But then, it makes sense to distribute the money in the evening, when you are sitting and drinking after a hard day of work. If someone doesn't make it back, it would have been a waste to pay them their share beforehand. *whistles innocently*

Ooh, Ooh. Can we wrap Boros's gun in the cloak? :P

So the wand is of the anti-swarm type? That seems very very useful : )

Also, I think the magic might start to leak out if we make lots of tiny little holes in the cloak :P

@Pearl of Power - those are nifty little things!

@Loot - mhm maybe we should wait until the evening. Who knows - we might just find some more stuff!

But I do think everyone should load up on any piece they want - and that we put the party pile in someones backpack for now - just so we have access to stuff if we come across troublesome trouble : )

The amulet shouldn't matter much for Nissim's bombs now that he has the Precise Bombs discovery. He can exclude squares from splash damage. But fire resistance isn't a bad thing: devils=hell=fire right?

The only things Nissim would really be interested in are probably exactly the same ones Aldous would want, so we can work that out on the pearl, wand, maybe the bracers.

The cloak might best go to Lily or Nissim. We are tied for 2nd place in stealth behind MIranda at +8. Nissim has it as a class skill. If one of us uses it we would be closer to Miranda, which would allow a scouting team if needed.

I'd agree it's best to just wait until after the current suicide mission to divide the magical stuff. I'd also be on the conservative side in selling things quickly I believe. I haven't seen it come up so I don't know, but does the blockade of Kintargo and the Thrune crackdown in general affect magical item availability? We may sell off stuff for cash and find there's little to buy with it.

Hells Rebels Tactical Map

Interesting that you bring that up.

Right now, availability is not affected. Our Kintargo is large enough to sustain it's economy for a while. However, custom orders may be impossible right now, and eventually, prices and availability may be affected if the blockade/crackdown continue.
Currently, most people expect it to be a short-term measure that will not affect the economy long-term, so only select goods(like ingredients for powder) that are already in short supply will be hard to come by, or more expensive.

That bit of information is a freebie since some of you do run legitimate businesses or are involved with such.

Also, just to pick up on something Lily mentioned earlier: Right now, it's not a huge deal to walk around with concealed arms or armor. From the oppositions perspective, all organized resistance is crushed and done for, and now it's time to "weed out" undesirables and dissidents. If they take note of you, patrols/dottari/inquisition mooks will be more on-guard.

As such, very light or easily concealable armor or weaponry may be useful for those capable of using it.

Aye. My main beef with the bracers is that you can get an mundane item for like 20gp that does the same thing (but a bit heavier! Which might actually be a problem maybe : )?).

But in all honesty, there isn't much stuff we can actually buy at the moment. We could probably just pawn off enough pearls to get a CLW wand and that Custom Boomstick parts Boros wanted :P

Can an alchemist use a pearl of power?

As for clw... I have one. :¥

I can't use the wand, and I'm not sure how the pearl works with spherecasting (traveling at the moment, don't have my book). Don't need the bracers, either, as it isn't really going to help if I get a bad guy in reach. You're welcome to them all, Nissim.

Well, Boros does have his boomstick worked up to masterwork level already. Though I can't find the damn post where Mordred mentions whether th cost came from Boros' cut of the loot, or was payment from Rexus for services rendered in investigating the Livery.

Nissim is a witch with alchemist as his gestalt so he can use the pearl. He can also use the wand. Can Miranda use it? Trading the bracers for a wand of CLW sounds like a good deal to me.

@Wand of Cure Light Wounds - Awesome! Let's see how long it lasts. Hopefully a good long time :P

@Pearl - Alchemists have their own mathingy called Boro Bead instead of Pearls of Power. Currently, by raw, the Pearl only helps Miranda and our Witches. Also Varuzhan's ranger part, once it gets there.

@Wand of Burnination - Once again, I think it is only Miranda and the Witches that get it on their spell list. But the Use Magic Device check is only 20 for a wand - and you get +2 if you practice/used it before - so that is an good alternative : )

(As a disclaimer on the last two, I'm not sure how Spheres of Power works with "normal" magic. But I think the answer is "not at all"/"bother GM"/"make Ritual/Custom Spell" :P)
