Kilarra Norgorkin |
Kilarra carefully moves away from the door and motions the group over to her.
In a hushed tone, trying to be careful to avoid being overheard, "They are waiting for us inside. They know we are planning to come through this door. If you want I could stay here and work on picking the lock. That can take quite a bit of time and could make just enough noise to make them think that we are all still here waiting for me to get it open. Meanwhile the rest of you could sneak around with the key to another entrance and go in. When I hear a commotion inside I will 'finally' finish picking the lock and join you. Thoughts?"

Sorry, I will fix the typo and get my languages listed for you
Rukn ed-Din |
Whispering as quietly as he is able to, Rukn exposes his thoughts on the matter. "The thimg is that we don't know if the key opens any door other than this one. Plus, they could choose to come after you and you would be alone." He thinks for a moment, pulling his goatee, and comes up with an idea. "I suggest we do as you say, trying to break through a different door, but we go all together. Maybe Alex or Zhalet could leave a fake noise here as a decoy?"
Zhalet Soroush |
"I have a cantrip that can mimic sounds. But it would only last for a few seconds and I can't be very far from it, only about 25'. I could stay nearby and continue to cast it over and over, if you want to let me know when to come join you."
Kilarra Norgorkin |
Kilarra considers for a moment then says "I like to color spray at the door idea. Solomon can stand next to you with his spear to punish anyone that tries to get close to you, I will open the door and Alexander can have his spell ready to fly. After all, it seems reasonable to assume that they will all be clumped up in the entrance waiting to ambush us. If there is any protection we can gain against ranged attacks that would be helpful provided it does not hinder our own. Erizi if you will stay to my side, help me push the doors open and move in with me I would appreciate it."
Kilarra moves up to the door and waits for her allies to take their positions and indicate that they are ready. Once in place, she quickly unlocks the door then pushes the doors open as hard as she can while staying on the defensive for any incoming attacks.
I would like to start the fight in total defense or at least fighting defensively if at all possible. I am thinking that Solomon and Alexander be in front of the doors. They either let me pass through their square to open the door or Solomon does it himeself. Once the color spray has gone off then Solomon and Alexander allow Erizi and I to pass through their squares and move into the market.
Alexander Pierpoint |
Alexander nods, and moves into position. "A sound strategy. Be ready for archers, though."
Ready action to cast Colour Spray as soon as the doors open, provided we see targets to use it on. If they have cover, we have a problem.
Rukn ed-Din |
"Alright, just give me a second..." Rukn closes his eyes and seems to concentrate briefly, then smiles. "Yes! All these years of practicing finally have paid off." He seems happy, as if having just managed a breakthrough.
Picking his bow, he nods. "I am ready."
Casting Barkskin on himself for a +2 Natural Armor bonus.

I was mistaken, here is a post. Please let me know if you do not have ownership of your character avatar.
The group begins to move across to the north doors to the battle market, stacking up in a battle order. Solomon and Alexander moving to the front as Kilarra unlocks the door and steps out of the way.
Solomon pushes the doors open with a powerful shove, calling a warning to the others as he does, "Four gnolls straight ahead. I hear more to either side." The doors open to reveal three hastily constructed, portable barricades just inside. Gnolls can be seen on the other side of the barricade with readied weapons.
As expected, two javelins come flying through the door as soon as it opens. One passes far over Solomon's head, but the other strikes Alexander squarely in the chest inflicting a small, but well-placed wound. (Alexander: 6 damage.)
Alexander, I did not apply your readied action because:
1) With you in the last initiative spot, you will have your full action to use as you see fit when you call for the door to open.
2) With the tactical situation inside, I wanted to leave it for you to be able to choose your own actions.
Round 1, GO!
Alexander's actions will take place first, then the other PCs in posting order (except Kilarra and Solomon who have already acted).

It has been 24 hours since I called for actions...guys, please try to respond within 24 hours of a combat post. I will give until lunch tomorrow before I end round 1.
Round 1 - continued....
Alexander steps forward to cast his spell ... and discovers that the gnolls right behind the barriers are holding longspears. Before he can cast, several javelins are thrown at Alexander, and a handful of longspears are jabbed through the barricades at him. A flurry of attacks come at Alexander, but only a single thrown javelin scores a hit. When he casts his spell, four more longspear attacks are directed at him, but none find their mark. (Alexander: 6 damage.)
A coruscating riot of colors washes out across the four gnolls directly to the south. All but one of them swoon and fall unconscious to the floor.

Rukn ed-Din |
Sorry, Rukn arrived late yesterday and got asleep on the computer trying to decide what to do. Seems a tricky situation for an archer.
Rukn studies the situation. It seems the combat is going to happen in that narrow space, and his arrows won't be of much help there. He better contribute now, or it can be too late. Seeing Alexander in peril and hearing the gnoll calling out, he braces himself, concentrates for a second and lunges in.
Assuming the barricades can be jumped on, and counting as difficult terrain. If any roll is needed, please roll for me. Don't be mad about me for this, guys!

The barricades are about 4 feet high. They count as normal cover and you need a reach weapon to attack someone on the other side.
EDIT:
You can also try to either move one or hack it apart. They are improvised, and obviously quickly cobbled together and held together mainly with ropes.
Erizi the Landless |
Is there a large object that Erizi can throw to take down the barrier close by? If so that would be his action. If not he'll wade in with his Earthbreaker and try to tear a hole in it.
Erizi the Landless |
Erizi Swings his mighty Earthbreaker in an attempt to remove the hastily constructed, poorly engineered barrier.

Rukn ed-Din |
The barricades are about 4 feet high.
So I assume the movement I did is illegal?
Zhalet Soroush |
Zhalet moves around in front of Solomon. Once she can see her target, she extends her free hand toward the gnolls on her left. Shouting the arcane words "Rasvaa Häntä!" she summons a slippery layer to cover the floor behind the barricade.
Move: 10' forward. Standard: Casting Grease (DC 13) to cover area outlined in blue on map.

Round 1 - Final:
Rukn Acrobatics: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27.
Rukn moves swiftly into the intersection of hallways, leaping lightly past Alexander and to the top of the eastern barricade. He fires a snap shot at a nearby gnoll, but the pile shifts slightly beneath Rukn throwing off his aim.
Erizi moves up beside Alexander, aiming a strike at the barricade. Two longspears lance out of the western barricade at him, throwing off his swing as he avoids the sharp steel.
Zhalet moves into the hallway enough to target a spell and conjures a thick layer of grease in the eastern hallway. The two gnolls with longspears slip and fall in the grease with yelps of surprise.
Andrus moves into view of the barricades, his sword and shield ready. With no room to fight up front, he waits.
Felliped also moves in closer, but he also seems to be waiting.

Rukn ed-Din |
Two of the gnolls with Rukn fall to the ground. "Good job, Zhalet." He decides then to stay where he is, giving cover to the casters. He can dodge well and can even take some light punishment, and meanwhile the heavy cavalry is coming.
Trying to eliminate some opposition, he shoots.

Oh, looks like I'll need an acrobatics roll to avoid an AoO?
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
Or actually maybe I don't need to move past the gnoll and draw the AoO since the other gnolls are prone? Not sure. If Zhalet can occupy a square closer to the barricade and avoid provoking the AoO she will. On the other hand, if her acrobatics roll was good enough I guess it doesn't matter.
Solomon Azar |
Acro over barricade: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25 Solomon used the wall next to Erizi as a springboard to jump up and over the barricade, his tattoos still glowing gold, but now a filigree was slowly crawling through them, elaborate lines showing passages from Saranrae's sacred text.

MisterLurch |
For everyone: Please note three things. 1) the blue outlined square is where the grease is. 2) the marked gnolls that are NOT in the grease are unconscious. 3) there are several curving tan-ish features on the map that I have highlighted with thick red lines. They are walls.
Round 2:
Rukn fires two arrows into the prone of the gnoll before him. It twitches, yelping in pain before it ceases to move altogether. (Gnoll 9: 23 damage.)
Zhalet vaults the barricade and nimbly ducks aside from the conscious gnoll's attacks. Once she has her feet firmly under her, she slashes deeply into the gnoll, leaving it feebly standing on the verge of death. (Gnoll 2: 18 damage.)
Kilarra follows Zhalet over the barricade, but the unsteady footing of crossing the unconscious gnolls combined with the climb over the barricade and the rush to cover that distance left Kilarra with a clumsy swing that did not make contact with her enemy.
Kilarra I changed where you ended up, as the only conscious gnoll where you went would be by Zhalet. If you prefer to move back, go ahead and do it and you missed the unconscious gnoll #1.
Solomon vaults the barricade, following Zhalet and Kilarra. The gnoll makes a clumsy stab at him with its javelin, but the point comes nowhere near Solomon. His close range dart proves to be the hapless gnoll's doom, and it falls to the floor limp and lifeless. (Gnoll 2: 12 damage.)
A quick glance around to take in the new surroundings reveals a curving room that is set up as a bar. A mangy and truly pathetic gnoll stands behind the bar with three bugbears leaning against it on the other side. A massive ogre sits in the only chair large enough for him at a table a bit further on. The four 'patrons' of the bar laugh loudly at the feeble defenses of the gnolls, cheering more for the sake of the fight and the blood than for either side.
A glance through the doorway directly to the south reveals a large raised dais and several open rooms along a curving wall. A human man in one of the rooms furtively ducks out of sight.
The prone gnoll in front of Rukn (#10) climbs to its feet, drops its longspear and readies a vicious-looking and well maintained battleaxe. The two behind it (#11 and #12) throw javelins at the archer. One javelin misses wildly, careening off the wall, but Rukn finds himself working rather vigorously to dodge the second.
Rukn, you will receive an AoO against Gnoll #10.
The two gnolls behind the west barricade (#3 and #4) both stab their longspears at Erizi, while the two behind them (#5 and #6) take advantage of the great target Rukn has made of himself and hurl their javelins at him.
Felliped moves up behind Alexander and begins reciting improvised verse mocking the shortcoming and impotent flailings of the gnolls.
Inspire Courage: +1 morale bonus on attack rolls, weapon damage, and saving throws vs. fear and charm.
Seeing an opening in the enemies, Andrus comes forward and leaps to the top of the western barricade, slashing down at the gnoll behind it (#3). (Gnoll #3: 14 damage.)
At this point, a huge, booming voice shouts from somewhere up high in the battle market, "Our guests have arrived, and are thankless rogues! A reward of 500 gold for each of their heads! Ha ha ha!"
The bugbears hesitate for only a heartbeat before seizing the morningstars from beside them and slipping shields onto their arms with a bloodthirsty shout of, "More gold!".
The ogre shoves his way past the bugbears, "Money belong to Hurvank! Puny buggos keep drinking!" Closing on Solomon, he reaches out with long arms, making a swift grab at the warpriest. Solomon finds himself dragged across the table and into the huge paws of the ogre.

This catches a few allies in the blast too, but I think everyone has fire resistance from their gems, so it should be ok.
Zhalet Soroush |
To Zhalet's mind the group's fortunes have gone from not so great to good, and now to much worse. Their breakthrough is starting to look more like a potential encirclement. Her only thought for a solution is to finish things before the enemy figures it out as well.

MisterLurch |
Rukn, ignore my last. While you would still have made an AoO with a melee weapon, I will just apply your roll to an unarmed strike, and since the damage die is the same, we will just use the d8 you rolled.
Also, I forgot about the need for Reflex saves in areas of grease. I will apply those to the gnolls now.
As this is the second time someone has tried to attack gnolls through a curving portion of wall, I will now redraw all the curving walls in thick red lines.
Round 2 - Final
Rukn kicks the gnoll before him (#10) as it tries to rise. The solid kick causes the creature to suddenly lose its footing in the slippery grease and it crashes back to the ground. (Gnoll #10: 9 damage.)
Erizi, there is a wall separating the western hallway from the southern group. It is slightly overlapped by the corners of the tokens, but is is still there to be seen. I put a thick red line on part of it to highlight it, but it extends all the way to the barricades. From where you placed your token, you cannot attack G4. Would you like to strike an unconscious gnoll, move to a different place, or ready your attack for a conscious opponent?

Please note, I do have debilitating injury now so whoever I damage with my S/A has their armor class reduced by 2 for 1 round vs everyone who attacks that same target.
Erizi the Landless |
Just move me 5' more to the big guy. I have 35' of movement... which since he has reach, will probably provoke an AoO, but death seems preferable to Pathfinder combat :-) 5E has spoiled me!!!
Rukn ed-Din |
Unless you have snap shot you cannot make AoO with ranged weapons. Since you are a monk, you always have "melee weapons" ready. Please make an AoO with melee weapons.
Yeah, sorry. I've just spent some time building an advanced version of Rukn and the 'bow AoO' thing got stuck in my mind, forgetting Rukn won't do that until 9th level. I guess it's too easy to get used to good things!
Solomon Azar |
Brief images of lighting them all on fire danced through his head, but apparently Sarenrae didn't want to do that so Solomon struggled against the Ogre.

Are you trying to escape or take control of the grapple?

Round 2 - The last
As Erizi closes with the Ogre, its massive fist snaps out towards him. Struggling as he is with Solomon, the ogre misses Erizi.
Round 3
Rukn fires two more arrows at close range. The arrows both hit and the two gnolls throwing javelins (#11 and #12) both yelp in pain.
(Gnoll#11: 12 damage. Gnoll#12: 14 damage.)
Zhalet casts a spell on herself, taking on some of the characteristics of stone. She then slowly begins her battle dance, the smooth movements gradually increasing speed until she is a graceful flurry of motion.
Kilarra steps neatly over the body before her, stooping and delivering a precise cut to two of the gnoll lying unconscious (#1 and #7).
(Gnoll#1: 12 damage. Gnoll#7: 18 damage.)
Solomon glares at the ogre, struggling mightily with the huge creature to free himself. Surprisingly, he is able to twist free from the Ogre's grip. As he moves out of the ogre's reach it tries to strike him but the swing is wild and comes nowhere near the wily half-orc.
Solomon, you said you wanted to spend the rest of your action moving, but not to where you wished to move. Go ahead and move your token.
Also, keep in mind that inspiration does not add to combat maneuver checks.
The three bugbears close in on the group, avoiding Erizi as Hurvank seems to be threatening them when one tries to come close to "Hurvank's gold." Only one is able to swing on Zhalet, but to no effect.
Andrus slashes at the gnoll before him scoring a solid hit. The blade severs something vital and it falls to the ground gurgling its end.
(Gnoll#3: 12 damage.)
Felliped climbs up beside Andrus, covering himself well with his shield.
The gnoll on the ground (#10) in the grease finally gets to its feet as Rukn lashes out at it with a foot once more. Rukn's foot bangs off it's shield as it snarls and tries to chop Rukn's legs out from under him, missing as Rukn hops nimbly over the swing.
The other two gnolls near Rukn (#11 and #12) both hurl their last javelins at him, and both javelins catch him solidly.
(Rukn: 11 damage.)
The two prone gnolls by Kilarra and Zhalet (#7 and #8) finally come to and, though blind, they try to struggle to their feet. Under a flurry of perfectly placed attacks, the two gnolls fall back to the ground unmoving.
Gnoll#7: 6 damage. Gnoll#8: 28 damage.)
The three gnolls in the west stairwell (#4, #5, and #6) all attack Andrus, but the mercenary's skill and strong shield defeat all the blows.
The ogre's piggy eyes lock onto Erizi, but in a surprisingly calm and fluid manner, the ogre slams his open palm into Erizi's chest. The shock of the blow staggers Erizi for a moment, but he shakes off the stunning power in the strike.
(Erizi: 11 damage.)
