Marhok |
Marhok looks to Edric with a more concerned look.
"If we go on foot I'd take you with me, but now we need to get in, watch and get out very quickly. I'll be okay Edric I don't intend to get into a tough brawl."
Marhok looks to Aron and then calls to Irabeth.
"Irabeth if you can provide me with a horse, me and Aron will be on our way. Aron you ready?"
I'm just going with Aron in this case? I wonder if Edric's reaction is meant to be foreshadowing and ominous that I'm in need of a healer.
Marhok |
Perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (20) + 13 = 33
"I wonder what happened here. Aron you see anything?"
Marhok says as he looks out across the outskirts of the countryside, eyes peeled as sits atop the horse.
Marhok |
"You're probably right, let's head out and get a little closer, see if any resistance of the demons still remains here."
Marhok |
Marhok and Aron wait for the army to arrive and signal to them to pick them up.
"Well Irabeth, seems like there was still some food stores left. No enemies or bad things around that we could see. The supply wagons could pick up the sacks of grain and dried fruits and meat. After that's done should we make camp or continue on for the day?"
Marhok |
"Sounds good, I'll help keep watch overnight. Irabeth is there anything I need to know about the garrison at Villareth's ford?"
Marhok asks before he goes off to get a tent prepared for him and Edric.
MiniGM |
Irabeth begins
Vilareth Ford is the northernmost cros sing point on the
West Sellen-few settlements and no fords or bridges
exist farther north from here on the Mendev side of the
river. Named for the crusader general who first held the
ford against a host of tiefling cultists eager to use it as
an invasion point, Vilareth Ford has long been watched
over by a small contingent of crusaders
Over the years it has been a magnet for assaults by world wound warlords and armies, but it has always held strong. Something special about the place I guess. It is something of an honor to be posted there so there should be only the best of the best.
I will note that the night will pass uneventfully. whenever you are ready to move on just say good night and we will. Not a rush of course
Marhok |
I've got nothing to add here, so yeah...
"Hmm good to know, perhaps the place has been blessed by Iomedae as well. I look forward to seeing the men that hold such a place. Well we will see tomorrow I guess. Good night Irabeth."
MiniGM |
The troops move out the next day, early in the morning , it is a long day, but uneventful. he next morning they set out again, and this time around lunch Anevia is seen riding back hard.
My love! The pass has been taken by an army of Tieflings! They did not see me so we should have the advantage!
you get to ADD two to your Offensive numbers and Defensive for this army battle.
so I will have yo roll the dice here, later if you decide that you would rather be sent off to do something else and just have me toll the dice let me know.
The armies meet with The Knights of Kenebras on the high ground. Irabeth sets up a standard attack counting on the lack of surpass for the Tieflings to carry the day along with the upper ground.
The armies slam into each other.
[oc] ok go ahead and roll a d20 with your army OM added and beat a 12 and you do damage[/ooc]
Marhok |
Do I get a shot off before we meet or no? Seeing as the Kenabres army has a ranged attack. Regardless here's the roll.
Paladin's Army attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
If appropriate here's the roll for the melee phase. Army Attack 2: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
Marhok |
I don't roll damage, they take 2 from the ranged attack and 11 from melee. Its the attack roll minus the DV of the army. The tiefling army also still gets an attack roll on our army as the armies attack simultaneously.
MiniGM |
oh thats right! sorry was thinking about another system, I was letting you go first and feel good about yourself before I crushed you!!!
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
You take 1 HP of damage
The armies smash into each other, and the Tieflings begin with a strong attack, but they quickly crumble under the might of the Paladin force. The route is on. The tieflings are utterly destroyed
Marhok |
Marhok is in the midst of the fighting, catching two tieflings as they charged on his ranseur and then started swinging his greatsword as the paladins pushed the attack. The tieflings were quickly overrun and Marhok looked up as he finished one of the last tieflings with stab through the chest.
"Victory!" He called out his sword held high as the last remnants of the tieflings fled and crawled away hurriedly.
Edit:
Marhok walks along the battlefield and tries to find the enemie's commander among the dead or wounded tieflings, trying to discern by sight of clothing, insignia or weaponry.
End Edit
If he finds the leader of the tiefling army or not, Marhok walks along the line where battle was joined and helps up some of the wounded paladins, helping them towards the healers and clerics. Then he meets up with Irabeth to talk about the battle and their journey onwards.
"Irabeth! This was my first large-scale battle ever. The rush of it all feels exhillerating. This seemed easy, but what do you think of it? Can we continue onward or is a rest in order?"
Marhok |
Edited my former post as I saw I was ninja-ed.
"I doubt Edric would mind helping out with the healing. I actually think he's already helping out. See?"
Marhok says as he points over towards a group of paladins resting on the side of the battlefield with several clerics tending to them, Edric's already helping them out.
1d20 ⇒ 171d20 ⇒ 13
When Marlowe approaches him about looting the enemy, Marhok looks at him with a frowned look.
"I think most of the paladins are worried that the weapons of the tieflings might be corrupted or might corrupt themselves when they try to wield it. I don't blame them after hearing about how the wardstones could have been affected. Perhaps if you can find something particularly interesting they could be persuaded, but don't count on that."
Marhok |
"If you put it that way we might as well use it. But I'll advice Irabeth to take caution before using them. We don't want our soldiers to get indigestion or worse."
When Marhok returns to Irabeth and the others, he relates Marlowe's remark to them.
"Marlowe thinks it's a waste to not use anything left on the tieflings. I already said my point to him why we probably don't use the weapons or armour of them, but he did bring up a good point of taking their remaining rations and food stores. We will need the food to feed our soldiers and if it helps us to continue on I think we could take it. Though I'd advice for our mages and clerics to check the stores if they're not spoilt or infected with magics."
Marhok |
Marhok nods and goes off to get Edric along.
"Edric!" he calls from a distance to him.
As Edric looks up from his application of healing to a paladin, he sees Marhok approaching. Then he calls out to him again. "We've got a task to do Edric, when you're done of course."
Edric looks to his fellow clerics and they nod to him. "We're doing fine here now, you can go, thanks for your help."
Edric hurries towards Marhok lays a hand on his shoulder. "Good to see you unhurt Marhok, the army made quick work of those tieflings. So what kind of task is waiting on us?"
"A diplomatic one. Those tieflings carried a lot of provisions with them, things we could use and eat, but most of the squad leaders have something against using anything from the army, probably because they think it is cursed or they might be corrupted by it. So it's our job to convince them that this is necessary and safety precautions will be taken to protect us."
Edric nods. "Very well then, I'd hoped for something more heroic, but I guess this is important as well."
Edric and Marhok approach the group with Marhok hailing the squad leaders as good friends.
"Brothers! That was a good fight there, wasn't it? A bit short but we've showed those tieflings whose boss around here eh?" Marhok laughs as he shakes hands and claps some of them on the shoulders.
"I'd like to chat about the battle myself, but Irabeth has asked me to have a talk with you about something important. I know many of you have problems about using anything in the enemy's hands and I understand, however the tieflings carried with them a good amount of food supplies which we could put to use, how about those?"
Edric immediately chips in and tries to bring his a-game in terms of logic and empathy.
"What Marhok means is that the food may very well have been raided from the countryside, it's rightfully ours and it should be fine still. We don't know how long we will be on our way or how long it takes for more supplies to reach us when we hold Drezen, every amount of food supplies we could get is beneficial for us and helps us to keep going. If you still have any doubts, the other clerics and I could go over all the collected food and try to detect any magic, poison or disease in it before we add it to our food stores. What do you say? Have you got any objections to this plan?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (12) + 15 = 27
MiniGM |
A quick debate erupts. The main concern seems to be what if the food is tainted somehow. But it is obvious that Edric spoke well, it hits them like a ton of bricks that between the cleric and the paladins they can detect and poison or evil.
You are right of course. Lets move and see what we can find.
[ add 1d6 ⇒ 6 units of food, and 3 units of "goods"
As the goods are being gathered Marlowe looks at the questing looks. If we...you take Drezen you are going to need capital to get the city up and running this will help.
Just then there is a call from the far side of the city. We have survivors!
Marhok |
Marhok frowns, but understands what Marlowe is saying. "Very well. Keep an eye out for any other such goods, we may well need it to secure Drezen."
As the call comes out about survivors Edric and Marhok hurry themselves towards the source.
"Survivors? Our brethren or theirs? Where are they?"
Marhok |
Marhok helps out the crusaders, supporting them to the closest aid post.
When they're all there he asks them.
"Brothers, I am Marhok, one of the leaders of this army. Could you tell us what happened to you here? Was it that tiefling army who caused you so much trouble?"
Marhok |
"Blasted demon worshipers." Marhok grumbles as he feels the need to punch something.
He grumbles a little more and composes himself again.
"Did you get to hear any information about them? Anything at all?"
When the men answer, he will listen and eventually respond with: "Alright, rest up my brothers, you've earned your peaca and quiet. If you feel strong enough you may join us as you wish."
Marhok |
"We will, don't doubt that. But that information will be very useful, I thank you for that brother."
With that said Marhok leaves the injured men and heads back to speak with Irabeth.
"I'm sure you've alreayd heard Irabeth, but there were survivors amongst our fallen brothers, one of them told me there might be a second army in our way at Keepers Canyon. Is there any way through which we can make this work for us? Depending on where that army is stationed of course."
Marhok |
"An ambush seems like a perfect plan, every battle we can win with as few injured men as possible is a step into reaching our goal. I'll trust you and Anevia can set up a good ambush or find a good place to spring that ambush. Can I assist in that endeavour?"
MiniGM |
I agree with you on all counts. All we need you to do is be a presence in the fight, slaughter with impunity! She says with a smile
It takes 2 days to get Keeper's Canyon
Anevia brings back the information needed you have advantageous terrain and an ambush is set that the army walks right into. There are two armies, one of Dretches and one of Tieflings. The Dretches seem to be the more dangerous.
[ooc] go ahead with your surprise attack and your ranged attack. The DV of the army is 14 for the retches and 12 for the Tieflings. The Dretches will be attacking at range as well
Marhok |
Focusing on the dretches first
Army of Paladins, Ranged Surprise Attack: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 8 + 2 = 30
Army of Paladins, Ranged Attack Round 1: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 8 + 2 = 20
Marhok |
Not really, if there's no leader to be found Marhok will look for survivors to interrogate or captured crusaders that survived.
MiniGM |
That night Edric and Marhok have bedded down in their tent.
even means asleep, odd means awake i know i usually do high, but i decided i didn't want to end the campaign here!!
1d100 ⇒ 9 is MArhok asleep
1d100 ⇒ 36 is edric asleep
Marhock hears a bamf and a humanoid with bat wings is in the tent!
You will pay for my army.
2d20 ⇒ (4, 8) = 12
Marhok wins init. You are out of your armor as is eddic and he is asleep!! Dim light in the room
Marhok |
Is my greatsword within reach?
"EDRIC! Wake up! We've got company!"
Marhok shouts as he rolls out of his bed and stands up, looking for his new and upgraded weapon.
Holding rest of my actions until I know my weapon is within reach.
