MiniGM's Unlikely Heroes Campaign

Game Master Vuvu

1 to 50 of 81 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | next > last >>

Recruitment open. I will note that I do not have a starting time in mind per se. I am still pretty busy for the coming weeks, so if we start it will be a bit of a slow start. However, I thought I would let people start to ponder it.

The Game
This is a, more or less open world game. I am hoping to have a wide array of characters with different strengths and weaknesses. I will be using sections of AP's and modules to continue the adventure of this motly group of heroes that we will assemble, and will let the PC's determine exactly who they are. Perhaps they are adventurers who have come together to right a specific wrong, perhaps they are mercenaries hired for a job, whatever. It will be your choice.

No matter who you are you will be given a chance to shine, and you will be given situation for which you are woefully unprepared. Are you a human cavalier? Well you are going to dominate the skirmish on the planes, but you are going to be at a disadvantage down in the small dungeon filled with traps. However, the rogue will find themselves in the exact opposite situation. Everyone will eventually find themselves out of their element.

Build Rules
See houserules below for lots of info
Alignment: No evil, no a-holes. You will be expected to work as a team
Stats: Choose from the two arrays below and arrange them how you wish

13, 16, 11, 12, 17, 16

13, 14, 12, 14, 15, 14

HP: Max at level 1. Successive levels will be rolled with certain modifiers added or subtracted depending on what has happened.

Gold: 150 gold PLUS your choice of the following
A single item work up to 4500 gold. This represents your inheritance. You may do whatever you wish with it, so long as it is only a single item, and it comes from the books you are allowed to use. Note that upon your death you will be buried with all of your items that are not consumables. Period.

Traits: Two, but again must come from books you are allowed.

Expectations of posting: My schedule fluctuates between working 100 hour weeks and normal weeks. I will make a commitment to posting twice per week, but will strive to do more if things are cooking. I expect the same from others, and we will all understand that botting happens. If a bot needs to happen I, or another player will do something intelligent for you.

Houserules

Guns
They don't hit touch, rather they will have an armor penetration up to the hardness of the bullet
Amount of shots that can be taken by a firearm will be limited. Despite what feats may allow.

Crossbows
Will also get some armor penetration ability based on the size of the crossbow

Classes
No archetypes
Upon leveling up if you want to take a level in a different class it will have to be justified by what has happened since your last level. IE. If you are a Barbarian, and you are almost killed, then perhaps you take a level in Oracle with your near death experience. Perhaps you literally meet your god, and become a cleric.

Feats/Spells Etc
Limited to what is in Core AND the book the class comes from.
ie. You are a wizard. All you can get is stuff in Core
Bloodrager? all you get is what is in core and what is in advanced Class guide

skills
These will also be streamlined. Several skills will be combined into a single skill the combinations are as follows below.

Arcana/Planes/Religion
Nature/Dungeoneering
Geography/History/Nobility
Acrobatics/Stealth
Climb/Swim
Diplomacy/Intimidate*
Acrobatics/Stealth
Disable Device/Sleight of Hand
Survival/Heal

*A note on diplomacy and intimidate. There are times that I will simply say "No, you cannot intimidate this person into doing that. Period. I don't care that you rolled 10 Nat 20's in a row" The same applies to Diplomacy

Items
Same as above as to availability
With the exception of something that is found, or your inheritance, there will NOT be stat boosting items readily available. You will not be able to buy these in cities. If you get one, it is because you found it somewhere. This goes for anything that boosts a save, or a mental or physical stat.

Exceptions
None, except if you encounter it in the game. IF you find a scroll of some spell not in your book, you can try to learn it.
That said you will be able to find things here and there as you may well face foes with things from other books and spells that are different than what you get.

Why?
I just cannot keep up with all the options out there. I want things to be paired down, and simple, for me. If you are the powergamer type, this probably is not for you. Min-maxing is fun, just not what I am looking for

Final thought
The last thing that I will say is that sometimes I roll on screen, sometimes I roll off screen using a dice app. In general this simply has to do with expediency and whether I am at a computer or on my phone.

There will be occasional maps, but I will only use them if we are in a combat so complicated we need to see the visual, otherwise we will not use it.

I will try to come up with something, I didn't see what races are acceptable?

Core races, unless there is something that is added in a class book. IE if Advanced players guide, also included rules for a new race then that would be allowed, if you were using a class from that book. I don't think that ever happened though.

I'd really love to play a human Mesmerist. This looks like a great opportunity. Are they any directions you'd like to give on backgrounds for your setting?

CucumberTree wrote:

Nope. I would keep it somewhat vague since the chosen will work together to come up with their conceit as to why they are doing things together and I wouldn't wanna write myself into a corner but knock yourself out!

I am thinking an Unchained summoner, not sure what race yet. Going to use the top array.

Interesting . Weaker spell list. Fingers crossed for a bad ass eidolon...well interesting one

I could totally dig a cleric of Desna (domains Luck and Travel).

Planning on using top array, taking 2 traits.

Said adventurer grew up exploring and worshiping Desna while adventuring. All the while, his worship payed off with a little divine luck. How does it sound so far?

Sounds solid.

Hmm, sounds interesting. Planing on using the top array, gonna try an inquisitor.

Here is my submission, Faltor Kelthan, Human inquisitor of Desna. Faltor is always traveling, seeing the world. As he does so, he makes it his mission to protect fellow travelers from orc tribes and the like. He prefers to use his bow, but if the situation demands it he is willing to get up close.

Here is LegitName's submission. Alex grew up exploring the world around her. Her fast tongue and fast reactions allowed her to get out of numerous hairy situations. She allways carries her trusty starknife. Though it does not do as much damage as a sword, it can be used from a distance.

Looks like there's a little competition going between Desna followers

I have no problem with crafting, it is hard to manage the time, and can be unbalancing so it something to be careful with.

Though you would not be able to craft stat items.

Maybe everyone is a desna follower. Could be a story connection

Does Desna have many followers who are prostitutes?

I have no idea

Nothing about Desna makes me think of prostitution...

CucumberTree wrote:

Not normally.

This sounds like a thoroughly intriguing campaign that I would love to be a part of. The Alias that I'm posting this with is the one that I would like to join with. Backstory is done, but I'll need some time to modify the crunch to your expectations.

take your time Mavis

Once folks have fully fleshed out their characters, and confirmed their feats and all are from the correct sources we can continue. Unless there is a mess of folks submitting I'm inclined to just let everyone in, currently there are only like 4 or 5 interested. that's fine.

gonna be pretty chill about this.

Hi Mini! As a suggestion for the house rules about guns and crossbows, maybe you should apply the range increment to the formula as well.

no idea what you are talking about Chess :/

The firearms just shoot against touch AC on their first range increment. For the Bolt Ace gunslinger, the same can apply for crossbows in certain situations. If you want to think about using some sort of armor penetration mechanism, maybe you could make it better for the first range increment - or simply let the penalties for the extra ones do the trick.

Would I be able to use the Teleportation school from the advanced class guide? I know you were saying that we can only choose feats and spells from the book our class is from, but what about the expanded schools of magic?

My character is good, all my feats and spells and traits are from CRB or Advanced players guide.

If you are a class from that book then yes. Otherwise nope

Oh that. I see. No need I don't think. Range increments do enough

Alright, looks like everything is ready :). Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Hey all! I've actually been kicking around a Desna-Worshiping Whip-Focused bard in my head for a while, and I think this would be a fun group to play him in (especially with all the fellow Desna follwers!). If there's still space/time let me know and I'll finish WHIPPING him up (Performance (pun)).

I think I got it. A Rasputin-like Desna worshiping mesmerist. Who travels around from town to town causing people to act in bacchanal hedonistic-like orgies, Maybe mixing it all with a skewed Desna denominational preaching :) Yeah this is going to be fun.

Half-Orc ranger. I am going to try for an effective switch hitter. Probably expanding into horizon walker.

I would be using the top stat array.

Just as an assist can everyone who has a "completed" character just make a quick post saying that have one done? Even if you have just recently done so?

Just some organization help for me

My archer/switch hitter inquisitor is fully complete.

Hey MiniGm - I have a question about how your skill homerule will affect a bard's versatile performance. Say if I take Perform (oratory) for versatile performance, do I get Diplomacy, Sense Motive AND intimidate (since diplomacy and intimidate are keyed the same under your rules)?

Just realized traits are from the APG, so I can't use them. Will go for a Headband of inspired wisdom instead.

Hmmm

That's a good question. Let me ponder that a bit, but probably

The Exchange

I'm still deciding if I want breadth of experience or scribe scroll, so my character is not yet complete. Also - what my familiar has in spells, and how much(if any) gp I have left.

I can play on my current character sheet though.

Edits done, Alexandra is ready to play.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Maps Subscriber

working on a classic Iomedean paladin. Are there traits in Core? Also, I assume the stat array above is before racial bonuses.

Mine is still in progress and will probably be finished tomorrow. But the plan is Elf UC Summoner using a mix of spells and longbow with a hound of elemental fire.

Yes it is before race, and no there are not, they were introduced in APG

Here she is

does it matter? feats and spells are specified as restricted

if its weapons too...I have no idea how to identify the right book from the srd

if you decide to restrict weapons...I'll just retool her for a gun

Yes weapons are restricted as feats and spells. That is listed in the house rules at the top.

Perhaps arbitrary, but not going to break the rules that i listed before we even start!

MiniGM wrote:

done

CucumberTree wrote:

Pretty much have to be a gunslinger to start w a gun, or at least from Ultimate combat.

Use the PRD o the Paizo site to see what qualifies as from your book

the weapon selection for mesmerist and your restrictions make that futile. I'll need some time to refigure weapons and feats

Silver Crusade

A tall doughty fellow of over 6 feet enters clad in rusty mail and with a oft-patched and worn cloak and tabard. An unremarkable blade hangs at his hip as he saunters into the room, supervening the scene. A yellow painted shield, made of some exotic hide, hangs from his back, and upon closer inspection, it has a rearing black dragon, ready to strike, etched on the field.

The youth's bearing and manners are at odds with the rather poor clothes and humble belongings; it is clear he is of noble descent. His dark beard is well trimmed and his eyes cast about the place quickly taking the measure of all who are near.

"Hail friends," he cries seeing the others in his small band. "Shall we be off? For glory, for honor, and for Abadar!"

Here is my crunch for Galen Goodfellow, cavalier of the order of the sword, and newly knighted son of an itinerant nobleman, sent out into the world to seek fame and fortune while upholding the strict tenets of chivalric honor. He is Order of the Sword Cavalier, dedicated to chivarly and an Abadarian, dedicated to the expansion of civilization and the social order.

Went with Cavalier instead of Paladin to be a little more free to play the LN Abadarian I had in mind, plus to have access to traits and a few more feats etc. Should be all from Core or APG. Will have some more detailed fluff up for him a bit later.

Inheritance item is a +2 Dragonhide shield which has been handed down from his grandfather, who allegedly, slew a great wyrm, and made the shield from his hide. The family's crest is a black dragon rampant on a yellow field and this is painted on the shield's front.

Not sure the starting location for the campaign, but wondered if a disinherited family from the Thrune take over of Cheliax worked in the story? Could really be from anywhere if not.
