15' move speed, but relatively narrow gap, and since the cube can paralyze people, one bad save and we're fighting it anyways, so while I love the idea of walking around oozes, I don't think this is the right ooze to do it to.
While hampered by this sludge, I would not risk
A choice like that. The ooze is slow, not stuck.
Lets fight here in the muck my friends, then fly!
Round 1 begin Inspire Courage
Constantin flails at the ooze, trying to keep Mykel safe as he battles the cube.
Aid Another (AC): 1d20 + 1 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 + 1 + 1 = 8
Constantin's actions here are dependent on Mykel taking the front

Fair enough....Mykel says as he darts forward and slashes at the cube.
attack: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 10 + 2 = 251d8 + 5 + 4 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 5 + 4 + 2 + 1 = 20
He then readies a counterstike.

lucklesshero |
Bulgo bounds forward to the dryer landings with nimble acrobatics. Mykel pauses for a moment to let Constantin finish schooling him on how to fight the creature, Constantin then starts his inspiring song. Mykel bounds forward slashing at the creature. cutting a nice size chunk of clear Jello from it. (Mykel please break down your dmg. for me oozes are not harmed by precision dmg. so I suspect you didn't do the full 20hp dmg)
The cube instead of responding to the attack in kind just bulls forward threatening to engulf Mykel and Constantin! need a reflex DC:12 or an AoO from both of you, Mykel and Constantin; but not both.

"What is it? Where is it?" The gnome works his way to the corner, having trouble slogging through the sewage, but he gets to a point that he can tell where the group is fighting. "Bad wall thingie! You leave my friends . . .." The last word fuels his spell, as the gnome goes even more red-faced than normal, screaming that word at the creature, transmuting the energy of the scream from sonic to fire, and assaulting it with a burst of flame touching only it.
20' of movement through difficult terrain gets 10' of progress. Cast Ear-Piercing Scream, converting it to fire damage and effectively making the caster level 4.
Fire Damage: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (5, 4) + 2 = 11 +2 from Bard
Fort 16 to halve damage and avoid 1 round Daze effect (that I'm betting the ooze is immune to anyway.

Should Mykel have gotten two rounds worth of slashing?
Don't understand this question..It's beginning of round 3..round 1 was spent walking to the corner. Round 2 Mykel attacked ..it's round 3 why would he get another attack before round 3? If you're referring to Parry riposte I'll post the explanation of that ability..but in the future let's let players of the characters point out why I missed an ability or something..players tend to know their characters better than others and Mykel didn't object to not getting his parry attack (for good reason..the cube didn't attack it just moved forward attempting to use it's engulf ability) Sorry, if I'm coming off as short Constantin but I'm dealing with another table where I've lost all my patience to the point I'm just trying to shuffle through the scenario as fast as I can to get out of the thing. Lets let players object for themselves..it slows game play otherwise OK? Again sorry for coming off as testy..(I am ticked off but, not at you) I'm strong in my language because, I really don't want or need, un-necessary delays at 2 tables. Need you to trust that, the game will run smoothly and enjoyably, even if an attack is missed or a rule gets over-looked. Sorry another game's frustration, is spilling over to this one. But, need you to trust that, I'm en-devouring to give you a fair and fun game experience. thx

cube's fort: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18

Mykel or Constantin can use a move action (perception check +4) to spot the swarm. When two are more of you spot the swarm..I'll show it's position after it completes it's movement.

Mykel swings at the cube again, and realizes his traditional defenses are uselesz against it.

After Bulgo cuts massive chunks from the gelatinous cube..Mykel launches a mighty swing strait down the middle of the quivering mass that, divides it in twain. Both sides of the cube shake violently for a moment the lie still. Constantin strains to see the approaching spider swarm looking carefully on the ceiling of the roof but unable to pick up the swarm's movement in the shadows. The swarm moves quickly forward and Mykel turns around and spots the scuttling mass easily only 10ft from his current position. Swarmholio begins to look up at the ceiling, to see what everyone else is looking at.

This scene occurs about 5 min after the battle in the sewers.
Laiashi is just finishing up making her wolfsbane contact poison. She carefully puts the cork on the vial and wipes the work station clean. In the distance she can hear another eerie wolf howl, echoing from the center of town. Sounds like the Mauler is on the prowl tonight, somewhere downtown.. Says the alchemist that owned the shop. Suddenly, the alchemist assistant runs in the door. Sir, one of the town guards just told me the Mauler is on a rampage! It killed a bunch of people at the courthouse and escaped through the sewers! Some people are chasing it on the west side of town he says! As if to emphasize the boy's point Laiashi hears a distant howl to the west. The howl is coming from the west, the same neighborhood as Rutowski's townhouse.
Laiashi go ahead and make a post of what you decide to do and where you go next..include a perception roll.
lucklesshero |
Ok since Laiashi is in a different location we can proceed with the chase. Laiashi let me know what you're doing a.s.a.p.... The obstacles in the chase will be in italics.
The mouth-filling stench of the sewers finally breaks in the relatively fresh air of Ardis’s docks. The moonlight shining down upon the weathered stones beneath the sewer gate catches a glint of gold: a small, worn locket smashed upon the rocks holds a pair of tiny portraits. One shows a Vonran Vilk who might have walked the streets fifty years ago. The other, torn and gnawed, shows Markov Rutowski—Vilk’s former lover.
The sewer grate you've emerged from is at the edge of a ruined stoned structure. In the distance beyond the structure you see a shadow run down the street and hear the howl of the mauler as he runs back towards Rutowski's Townhouse. It looks like you'll have to smash through a rusty gate (easier for Mykel difficult for Swarmholio) and or climb over some of the ruined blocks and timbers.
I used the word difficult and easy with the lock because the suggested way to defeat that obstacle is not a standard skill it's CMB. Remember normally I'll only use 1 adjective easy or difficult ..easy denotes 12 under DC difficult means 18 or over. For instance the climb check mentioned here doesn't have an adjective so it would be within the 13-17 DC range.

I suppose so it’s 10 ft high jump with rubble on the ground ; so the DC:45! By my math!
Laiashi |
If I don't finish this, it will have all been for nothing. Laiashi finishes her concoction, a tiny vial of orange liquid, and carefully pours it over the blade of one of her daggers, ensuring both sides are coated evenly. She picks up the dagger and heats it to glowing. The metal is dry to the touch once it cools, and she slides it into one of the hidden sheaths. "The west side of town, you said?" She gives the alchemist a quick kiss on the cheek for his help, and the apprentice too for his information. "Thanks!" Then she dashes out the front door.
Can I assume I can find everyone? And since you encourage creativity here, can I use Escape Artist to slip through the gate instead of having to bust it open?
lucklesshero |
Laiashi your chase will be a bit different than the others (because you're 1/2 way across town)..For the sake of speed I'll use your first two rolls as if you're running with reckless abandon
to try and catch up. From there you make your decisions based on the obstacles I present to you OK. (Reckless abandon means you must pass both skill test but move faster/make up more distance. steady pace means you move forward but don't necessarily make up ground unless the Mauler does something that stalls himself. Although your initiative doesn't mater right now..it will when/if you guys catch up to the mauler..so in your next post go ahead and roll initiative and let me know if your going forward recklessly or steadily.
Laiashi abandons the idea of heading back to the safe house..and sprints towards the center of town where she heard the howls come from. She follows the baying for a time and it leads her too a small alley way with some parked un-manned carts blocking her path. Her thin frame just manages to squeeze through avoiding a lengthy trip around the block. however at the end of the alley someone has parked their coach for the night. Rather than back tracking Laiashi just grabs hold of the back of the coach and climbs over the annoying object; dropping to the other side in a full sprint.
Soon Laishi comes to an interesting part of town with some canals that separate the housing blocks. the main canal is blocking her from getting to the other side and continuing her pursuit. looking down the canal it's over 10 housing blocks to the nearest bridge. It's most likely faster to make an easy swim across or try a difficult hop across on barrels that, have been made in to buoys.(The locals have made old beer, wine, and oil barrels in to buoys that hold wire to their Crayfish traps.)
lucklesshero |
Bot for Swarmholio
Swarholio staggers up to the gate with his tiny body and thinks of trying to squeeze through the bars of the gate. When he sees Mykel struggle with the hinge however, he brushes Mykels blade aside utters a magic incantation and a glob of acid appears on the hinge and begins to sizzle. After a moment of burning the hinge is significantly damaged.
+4 to the next CMB check made to break the gate (although if Constantin takes this he'll have to move his place in initiative behind Swarmholio): anyone who breaks the gate.. may have others follow through the gate without a check, when their turn comes up.
Constantin the Azlant |
Strength: 1d20 - 2 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (20) - 2 + 4 + 1 = 23
Constantin shrugs and heaves his slender frame against the gate. A moment later as pieces of the gate and lock clatter to the ground he glances around worriedly as he watches for locals. I don't need another vampire scare.
lucklesshero |
mauler acrobatic jump: 1d20 + 16 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 16 + 4 = 37
Bulgo knows there's no time to waste and dashes for the ruble finding foot and hand holds with ease..he drops to the other side and sprints after the thing that was once Velk. Likewise Constantin sees both Mykel and Swarmholio paused at the gate. Constantin witnesses Swarmholio cast a spell on the hinges and without breaking stride lowers his shoulder and blast through the gate. He spots the silhouette of the half wolf half man as it catches the light of a street lamp around the corner it just turned...Constantin rushes to pursue only 1/2 a step behind Bulgo.
As Bulgo and Constantin round the corner..they can already see that this creature is much faster than them. It has several blocks ahead and turned another corner. They'll need to be both, quick and lucky to catch this creature.
lucklesshero |
Constantin and Bulgo pull up for a second realizing, in a flat out foot race they'll never catch this creature. They spy a park with a thorny hedge to their left. If they could cut through the park they could gain some much needed ground on the Mauler. Time is running out they could search for an opening in the thorny hedge but, that could be difficult in the dark.
Or they could just try to squeeze through the relatively widely and easily spaced hedges, and then cut through the park. remember to run with reckless abandon, you need to pass both (failure on one doesn't necessarily mean no progress but failure by a lot could)
Swarmholio and Mykel watch in shock as Constantin Rams through the gate and bounds after Bulgo. After a stunned moment they again join the pursuit. Within a few monuments they turn the corner and also must decide whether to squeeze through the easy bushes or try to find a difficult shortcut in the dark. (Swarmholio and Mykel can only choose one option they cannot choose both this turn)

escape artist is the roll, and you're missing it by 1! However, since you explicitly asked about taking '10' earlier (and I didn't answer); I'll assume every time I write that something is "easy", you take '10"? So redux the rolled 2 to a 'take 10' and ,you pass the escape artist check. Fair enough Bulgo?
lucklesshero |
Size: Gnomes are Small creatures and thus gain a +1 size bonus to their AC, a +1 size bonus on attack rolls, a –1 penalty to their Combat Maneuver Bonus and Combat Maneuver Defense, and a +4 size bonus on Stealth checks.
Surprisingly there's no language regarding size for squeezing through tight spaces. I think this is one that's just left up to GM discretion. So your answer is yes..you receive a +4 bonus for squeezing through tight spots during this chase. You already passed but just in case there's a future escape artist squeezing check. Below is what the PFSRD has on size bonus and escape artist.
Action Squeezing through a tight space takes at least 1 minute, maybe longer, depending on how long the space is.
Retry? Yes. You can make another check after a failed check if you’re squeezing your way through a tight space, making multiple checks. If the situation permits, you can make additional checks, or even take 20, as long as you’re not being actively opposed.

is it still dc 18 for the jump? just checking...
If you remember I use the word difficult anytime a DC is 18 or over and easy if it's 12 or under.. in your and Swarmholio's case I used neither word,(easy or difficult) so the DC's for both checks fall between 13-17 (it's actually 15 for both checks but I'm trying to steer away from making this a strictly mechanical skill check exercise.) Hope this helps..is this fun or frustrating?..feedback on the discussion page is welcome!
Constantin see's the route Bulgo took and is on his heels. He too pulls up when he emerges from the tight sewer pipe realizing these locals could hold them up significantly if they don't manage to bluff or sneak their way through this neighborhood.
