And every reason to deduce it can't. It isn't magical and armour can't resize itself.
In the real world, no suit of armour would fit all adult humans. They just vary in size too much. Pathfinder does not go into that level of detail.
For some masterwork items (Illiam's backpack, for instance), it makes sense to assume that they have significant capability to be adjusted to the size of the wearer. Maybe not armor, though I might at least expect it to be able to accommodate the owner losing/gaining weight without requiring a breastplate stretcher.

WOW!!!! 27 new posts in the discussion tab! And quite a few in the gameplay as well! Figures, I go buy a PS4 so I'm kinda out for the weekend ... and the group that is usually very quiet on the weekend decides to explode! Hahaha!
Man, didn't we also potentially save Vade's life? And isn't he a powerful wizard or something like that, that should be grateful as well? Cause the whole armor/weapons thing for my character is just kind of a waste. Or does anybody know of anything I should consider? I'll look a bit, but I don't have the sources/knowledge that some of you have.
Illiam Taal |
Masterwork is probably unnecessary, but it's always worth getting a spiked gauntlet. Even Illiam has one. It allows you to threaten adjacent squares without losing the free hand. Even if you never intend to try a melee attack and your AoO would be as worthless as Illiam's, there are advantages to threatening adjacent squares.
MendedWall12 |
Illiam, I totally agree about the mundane items. I don't know why I had you roll for that. Chalk it up to forgetfulness, I know better. I know the 75% of Base Value is for magic items or items with special materials. Speaking of which. For narrative purposes I find it ridiculous that Figueroa would not have a darkwood longspear, but would have a living steel nodachi... So, as Goruck said, I'm going to GM Fiat there, and say the reverse is in fact true. So, yes, Kairon can have his darkwood longspear. But he cannot have that AND the chain shirt for free. One or the other, you choose. If you want to buy the chain shirt, that's fine, I'm certain Master Figueroa has a chain shirt to fit a man of Kairon's size and stature. I don't think having Mountain Pattern Armor is outside of the Master's realm either. We'll just write it off as his love for the craft of smithing, and taking upon himself a challenge at some point. So, yes, Mountain Pattern Armor is yours Goruck. Not agile though. :P Of course you'll have to RP the interaction with Figueroa in order to actually get it. Same goes for everybody, whatever item you want from Figueroa, you'll need to RP the interaction with him to get it. :) Kairon, since you're there now, go ahead and "find" the darkwood longspear among his available weapons, then we can RP the "transaction." :)

People, change is in the air.
I got some news today from my boss that allows for a high possibility of "funemployment" in the immediate future -- tomorrow kinds of immediate. I'm a bit frazzled right now, and might not post for a couple days; will do what I can, though.
Regardless, I'll be back in action here before the week is out.
Dolok Pickering |
Sorry to hear that Syrus! Hope everything is able to work out for you.
Goruck of the Stone |
I'm sorry Syrus. Hopefully everything will work out alright.
Chillel |
Syrus- Losing one's job is a serious matter. But it is not definite yet?
Sympathies and I hope things work out.
Dolok Pickering |
Yes, the image of ravens bringing the food has always been an interesting one to me. He will provide.
Dolok Pickering |
No, no, no ... you don't eat the ravens! The ravens bring you food!
Syrus Terrigan |
I'm familiar with the passage, actually -- I know. :D I was just seizing yet another opportunity to get a chuckle based off of Mended's near-perfect phraseology. Just like volleyball: set, spike!
I'll get around to that RP post sometime. Hopefully by this evening.
Some of that tension is back -- I guess it's just that I'm currently eyeballs deep in a job I may not have by the end of the day . . . . lol
Chillel |
But what kind of food would a raven bring? Recall, the collective noun for ravens is an "unkindness". Something in the nature of a week old Big Mac?
Syrus Terrigan |
Did you just say your balls deep? What kind of a job do you have?
Heh. If only it were that much fun.

Here's a terrifying anecdote for you (and I haven't documented this, but the man that shared the tale is one I trust to be honest): Chuck and his wife went to McDonald's one weekend and ordered a great deal of food, as they were going on a rather long road trip. Somehow, someway, half of a quarter-pounder was not completely eaten, and it was left in the cardboard box and evidently kicked under the front seat of the vehicle. Chuck insists it was fully 6 months or more later before they had occasion to clean out from underneath the seat, and the half-eaten burger was found. On a lark, he microwaved it, just to see what would happen: he gave an oath and attested that the months-old "food" smelled just as it would if purchased fresh that day.
I have avoided that establishment ever since.
Dolok Pickering |
Heh, heh, ... I worked at a Mcdonald's restaurant as the cook/sandwich maker for about 9 months. I still remember vividly, one day when we were having a sale on cheeseburgers for ... 25 cents? And we had the High School right behind us and we were getting slammed at 3 in the afternoon. An assistant manager dropped an entire tray of 12 cheeseburgers on the floor, BEFORE they were wrapped. Yes, he actually just put them back together and went ahead and served them! This was many years ago, I was too young and inexperienced. Otherwise I would have stood for what was right and not allowed him to serve those.
On another note, now it is my campaign that says it's down for maintenance!
Chillel |
Yes, different pages on this site are loading or not loading for no apparent reason.
Chillel |
And that is the good outcome. Sucks. Good luck searching for a new job.
Dolok Pickering |
Syrus, I'm glad you still have a job, but yeah ... that does sound like it sucks. Sorry. Here's hoping for a good change for you.
Goruck of the Stone |
At least this means you can find a job on your terms Syrus.
Baradim, do you still have the tatzlworm eggs? I still think we should try and raise one as a team pet.
MendedWall12 |
Hey all, just wanted to say sorry for not posting. My wife had shoulder surgery on Wednesday, minor surgery, nothing to worry about, but I'm still home with her helping with the recupe process. You'd be amazed what you can't do with only one good arm. :D I'll be sporatically on for the next few days, but I return to work on Monday next week, and will be back to regular posting then. Plus I was never really a regular weekend poster anyway. XD
Dolok Pickering |
No problem Mended! Hope your wife's recuperation goes well!
Goruck of the Stone |
No worries. Hope everything goes smoothly!
Chillel |
Hope your wife recovers well and quickly.
And I have had injuries that put one of my arms out of order and I know what it is like. More difficult than you would think.
Dolok Pickering |
Ok, as far as taking the spear, I seriously doubt I can accept the extra weight. Since I'm at work I can't access my character sheet to check on that, but I'm fairly certain that would put me over my light load. If somebody else wants to check my sheet for me, I'd not be upset.
BtW, spear weight is 6 lbs. (Seems awfully heavy to me? I've held spears that didn't feel that heavy, but I guess it depends on materials used in great part huh?)
Illiam Taal |
Your sheet says you're carrying 32lb with a maximum light load of 38. The longspear is 9lb, but if you get rid of your quarterstaff (4lb, which would seem redundant with the longspear), that will put you at 37.
Syrus Terrigan |
Don't take it too much to heart, Dolok --
1) Kairon enjoys combat, and wants everyone to enjoy it as much as he.
2) If ditching a close melee weapon in favor of the spear seems too risky, just go with your gut.
I've said so much of it because I thoroughly enjoy clobbering the bad guys (I just know y'all haven't been able to discern that -- lol). To some extent, I like it even more than spellcasting.
Any apparent social pressure is supposed to be purely in-game, and not metagame, in nature. If I've gone too far with it, just express that, and I'll let it go. :)
Dolok Pickering |
Your not bothering me Syrus. Let me get clarification first of all, the one you are offering me, is it a spear? or since Illiam talks about it, a longspear? That would make a difference of course. And again, when I can launch a fire ray from 25 ft away, WHY would I get close enough to use the spear? Your not bothering me, I just don't understand the insistence. It could be a difference that you like the melee, whereas I prefer spellcasting, thus choosing to play a sorcerer instead of a martial character.
Syrus Terrigan |
It is a longspear: 1d8, reach, x3 crit.
My continued mention of it has a twofold motivation: 1) Reach weapons have served this party well; we will miss Scipio's lucerne hammer. 2) The reach property may put you at greater risk than a 30-foot attack range, but given that you can get one "free" AoO each round could seriously boost our collective DPR, and in those moments where the combat has broken down: i.e., when we need it most. Translation: it could be the 4.5 damage that keeps one of our three "squishies" from taking a full attack, especially at these lower levels. A 9-lb insurance policy, if you will. I'm not recommending you "front-line" with it as "standard combat doctrine"; Dolok is a smith's apprentice -- surely some of the "song of steel" resonates with him!
Also, your character's "unpenalized" Str-based attack rolls make Dolok a better candidate to wield it than Chillel or Illiam.

SIDEBAR: Another Work Gripe
The last time I felt this terrible on the job, I quit without notice. And I've got no fallback position this time, either. It's just 10 years later.
[Insert chain of expletives here]
Goruck of the Stone |
Sorry everybody, but my opportunities to post are going to be few and far in between for the next couple of days. I'd do my best to try and post when I can, but feel free to bot me if needed Mended.
Dolok Pickering |
In response to Syrus's sidebar.
Illiam Taal |
Chillel, is there a list of your spells (stored in Athena, not just the ones you have memorized) somewhere that I could look at?
Goruck of the Stone |
That's pretty cool. I've never thought about making a table for tabletop gaming, but now I really want to.
Illiam Taal |
Probably cheaper to use a projector to project down onto the table (or on a wall next to the table, for that matter). One of those smart boards they have in classrooms (with an short-throw, extreme angle projector and feedback mechanism) would be just about ideal. You could probably even make magnetic minis that the software could recognize. Of course, at some point, you might as well just play a video game...
MendedWall12 |
I tried the short throw projector down once. Using minis with it creates shadows, interruptive to gameplay shadows, and unless everybody is using technology to manipulate digital minis (a la Illiam's very astute call that you might as well just play a darn video game) it is just bothersome. I actually had the idea for putting a flat screen tv inside a table and putting glass over it already. Problem is I don't have a table, a flat screen, or the glass... Add into that that I moved away from my regular gaming groups into a gaming black hole in the midwest, and ... well, you can see why I gave PbP a solid effort. :D

Can I make a suggestion. This campaign has become rather inactive recently.
In order to try and kick start things again, maybe we could all get in the same place and head off to try and find Kimi and the other things we had in mind to do out of town.

Great suggestion. I'm actually starting to think this campaign has run its course. Which is not me saying I want to quit, it's just me observing that things have slowed down to the point of being more than stagnant, and observing that Baradim has not posted in over two weeks. Sadly I do believe Baradim's inability to post has made everyone else in the game feel like they can't move things forward. So perhaps it is time to put it to a vote? Do we want to push this campaign forward, perhaps opening up recruiting to get a player to replace Baradim? Or do we want to let it slide off into the sunset with the knowledge that our heroes accomplished the task they were given?
Chillel |
I am for continuing.
But I am getting a bit frustrated with a lack progress.
Goruck of the Stone |
I'm still for continuing.
Syrus Terrigan |
I know my posting volume has dropped off significantly in recent weeks, but this campaign thread is still the thread I check most often. I would like to continue with the game. That said, I may only be able to hold myself to the 1 post/72-hours ratio that was set in the beginning, and I'm not sure that would help things progress. I have less opportunity to post through my work week now, and I work six days a week. On top of that, I have many things demanding my focus once work is done -- my plate's pretty full.
Some of my interest has waned, admittedly, but I think that's more a consequence of how slack we've been lately than anything else. I offer my apologies for that, and reaffirm my willingness to step back up to posting properly, and being accountable for it.
I miss Baradim's regular presence; I hope something changes in the next day or two that will enable him to jump back into the thick of things. Given what Mended has said in the past, I think we should give him an opportunity to respond, and from there determine whether or not to open things up for another player.
I'm looking forward to hearing from everyone else!
