So I'm getting over my inability to take the champion of Irori prestige class...
Ok, not really...
But, it got me thinking more about where I'm going with this character.
So I would like to ask the DM a couple of questions:
1)Would you allow me to take the youxia archetype from the Genius Guide to Martial Archetypes? (I plan on taking fighter levels and the archetype would be used with it.)
and
2)Would the ninja trick Stunning Blow allow Lothar to get feats that use Stunning Fist for a prerequisite? (Looking to take Dragon Style next level and the other feats in the chain list Stunning Fist as a prerequisite.)
Megan Robertson |
Yes and yes, Lothar.
Now then, this is quite interesting. Defeating the Stag Lord is the conclusion of Book 1 of the Kingmaker AP... but you have skipped a fair bit of the exploration of the forest bit that makes up the middle of the book! It's the nature of the 'sandbox' style adventure - which this is supposed to be - that you take your own route, so that's not a problem.
So, what do you want to do? We can go and explore the forest and deal with the various encounters scattered through it, or move on to Book 2. Or we can kind of interleave the two...
Anyway, with great delight I'm going to say LEVEL UP!, which you may do as a background task whilst you consolidate your position and get organised for whatever you'd like to do next.
Gorguk |
Wow level up Gorguk just got massive at combat with the addition of the animal companion in Durok. Front line combat lets go. Wll have Gorguk up and ready later Witt he training manage.
Is the fort currently where we want to be located for now or do we want to head back to the temple of Erastil or Oleg's? Just curious.
Calinder Surital |
I will get Calinder leveled up as soon as I can. As far as the encounters we may have missed, I say just save them for later. If we happen to wander into those areas, they'll just add extra flavor to the story at an unexpected time.
I do agree with Rhasa, in that we should take some time to explore the area around the fort, especially if it is to be our new base of operations.
Gorguk |
It's taking longer to level up than I thought in the meantime, we can continue with Lothar and Rhasa delivering the body and messages. Barnabus dealing with Dovan, Cal with Gorguk doing cleanup I suppose. I will try to have everything finalized tomorrow.
Rhasadilara Goldenbough |
Rhasa is not leveled up yet, but there's really only one choice to make - her trick. I'm debating the defensive bow stance (an apparent no-brainer for the archer I'm trying to build) or the fast stealth one (because I like the scouting implications and I'm building her with a good melee option).
Oh, wait, I have to pick a feat. I think I have that selected already, but I have to find the notes. I can probably proceed as she is - I'm taking the half-of-max hp option at this level. Fifth level is a dead spot for saves increases, BAB goes up one, ...
The more I try to say she can roll now, the less I believe it. I'd better just get busy. ;-)
Gorguk |
Feat for Gorguk, Durok becomes a mount with feats and skills. Almost like creating a whole other character. The feats are what is taking me so long to figure out...
For Durok... do I take power attack and improved overrun which if Gorguk takes trample pretty much insures that whatever Gorguk charges gets knocked down by Durok with a free hoof attack plus the lance attack that Gorguk gets anyways.
That or shield focus for the AC and eventually mounted shield.mshield focus will help me tank and is always useful. The others are questionable in that if Durok is not available I lose half of my feats.
Rhasadilara Goldenbough |
Well, if you are pursuing two different concepts for your character, both typically suffer, but if they have any overlap, I would start wtih those feats. It only delays the decision on the other feats, but you remain in position to take advantage of either concept later.
If I understand what choices you are facing, my vote would be for Durok to get the feats to make him a steamroller and Gorguk would get Shield Focus because it would aid him either mounted or on foot.
Of course, Lothar is our resident build genius, so we'll have to see what he says.
Gorguk |
Looking at building Durokmright now and he has more HP, one less AC (without armor), higher saves in all three catagories, better init, better to hit, and better damage output than his master. If it wasn't for a paladin's immune to fear, Gorguk would be scared of his own mount.
Rhasadilara Goldenbough |
It's not fear he's feeling. It's respect. Deep-seated and deserved respect. ;-)
Rhasa is leveled up. Took Chameleon Step as her trick (I have other plans that should make Defensive Bow Stance unnecessary.) and Rapid Shot as her feat. Other than those decisions, all she really gained was hit points and BAB. Oh, and her Ranger's Focus is now +4 to hit and damage. I have not used it yet - was planning to use it for the first time on the Stag Lord. Next time, don't save it for the BBEG, I guess.
Lothar Narda |
Lothar is fully leveled. Applied to ninja, making him bard 2/ninja 3. This gives him no trace +1, another d6 to sneak attack, +1 to his base attack, and a +1 to both Fort and Will. Dragon Style was the feat chosen at this level (love that 1-1/2 Str damage boost on the first unarmed attack, and the next feat in the chain will allow me to further boost my unarmed strike damage by half my Str). Skills adjusted. Average of the die taken for hit points.
Calinder Surital |
It'll be some time this weekend before I get a chance to update Cal. Got to get ready for my Friday night GM duties, work is crazy right now, and I've got a job interview on Monday to prep for, "I'm swamped."
Sorry about slipping into the Princess Bride quote, couldn't help it. I just realized as I was typing that I was starting to sound like Prince Humperdinck talking to Count Rugen.
Anyway Cal's BAB and saves don't change, so it should just be feat, skills, another d6 on channel energy and third level spells, so not much to do.
Lothar Narda |
As for using the fort as a base to operate from, I don't see why we shouldn't. It keeps others from using the place in the same manner the Stag Lord did and allows us to set up another safe point in the wilderness. Between this and Oleg's, we could possibly get more settlers out to really establish the Greenbelt for the Brevic Swordlords.
Megan Robertson |
Rhasa' - have you actually used any of the feats that you wish to swap out? If you can explain what feats you want to change, and how you came by the ones you'd like to have, then I can make my call.
As for the fort, it's in pretty poor condition. The bandits might have been prepared to live there but more civilised folk - Dyfrig for example - would probably want to have some renovations done before moving in.
Rhasadilara Goldenbough |
I am still trying to decide. She has used the feats in question. I'm considering her 'losing' a feat now while she concentrates on its replacement, which she would gain at next level. I'm trying to make sure that when it's done, she's 'legal', too.
What I'm considering would replace Precise Shot with Rapid Shot as her bonus combat style feat, which would mean that her fifth level feat could be used on Power Attack. Her first level Point Blank Shot would be replaced with Quick Draw.
It's based on Treantmonk's switch-hitter build for the ranger and tries to make her stronger in melee and make the transition between combat modes easier - thus the Quick Draw.
I'm still trying to decide if it's too big a change or if it would wind up being fairly transparent.
Megan Robertson |
Perhaps Rhasa's going to spend some time working on her ranged combat, and makes a reasoned decision to concentrate on sheer quantity of arrows going down range, rather than trying to be as accurate as she can be. As she chooses a different focus for her training, so her strengths will drift from what, for convenience, we label one feat (the Precise Shot one) to another (i.e. Rapid Shot).
That could explain the feat change in 'in character' terms...
Rhasadilara Goldenbough |
Thanks, that's what I had in mind. Her practices will focus differently and so her skills will drift. If that's acceptable, I will assume she has lost access to Precise Shot at this point and wait for you tell me she has gained Rapid Shot in exchange.
What are your feelings on Point Blank Shot and Quick Draw? Is that a transition for a later level, or can we work that in now, too?
Megan Robertson |
Rhasa' - I'll rule that you may make the transition from Precise Shot to Rapid Shot over the course of this level, in other words next time you level up you get your Rapid Shot - BUT you lose Precise Shot from now on. The intensity of practice required means that you may only switch one pair of feats at a time.
Gorguk |
Just throwing this out now so we can have it decided for later, where do we want to go next after the staglord is cleared out? If we plan on making the fort a new base of operations, should we clear out the hexes around it like we did Oleg's?
Calinder Surital |
The other possible tasks that we had to do, do not seem to be active threats to our security and so I think as Barnabus said, that we can take care of them on the side as we continue on. I think that we have taken care of the two big threats that we needed to, and that was to take care of the situation with the Sootscale tribe and deal with the Staglord. Although Calinder is still a bit uneasy about Dovan.
Barnabus |
trying to cram too much into one day!
I had detect magic ready, but would rather wait a day to work with Calinder in examination of magical items. (should post that IC)...
our spellcraft skills are both +8, so that should help.
Besides we had interviews to conduct, and an owlbear to "befriend"
Of Dovan and the owlbear I can not say which is the biggest threat! ;)
Lothar Narda |
Is everything OK?
I was just wondering if we're still continuing and we've kind of stalled or what. Things have been proceeding at a decent clip until now; I'd hate to see it all grind to a halt.
Calinder Surital |
I was going to try to determine who created the zombies and why. But now that you made me think about it more, they may not know due to the fact that they were most likely already dead before their corpses were animated.
Maybe who they were and perhaps which deity they worshiped would be better questions.
Any other suggestion would be welcome.
