Drawn back out of his glee over the fascinating new friend he's made... Ashe thinks to Majenko grining, {...you are amazing, Majenko. When we have time... we must sit and talk you and I! I'd like you to share, at length, with me your life's story...}

He places the Pseudo-Dragon upon his shoulder like a preening cat and turns back to his comrades...

"Aye, Friend Varrel... let us be about this business so we can get some rest and a good meal and drink with combat-forged comrades! We have already sweep this ship and most of the 'Eel's End' of Devargo's cronies... those with the wisdom - fled at the first sight of our intent. Una... Take EVERYTHING! Now I'll go retrieve Devargo and send the Korvosan Guard here to recover the remains of Devargo's and 'Chitter's' Victims!"

Ashe then leads the way out of the room and up to the main decks of the 'Eel's End' to pick up, the likely - groggily awakening Devargo.

Ashe spares him only these dread-filled words, "...We have meet your 'pet' 'Chitters' and found your victims you have fed to him... but your next meeting will be with Korvosa's headsman and you'll meet your just reward shortly - in the grave!"

With that he pulls the man to his feet and marches him off to Citadel Volshyenek and Field Marshall Cressida Kroft's waiting dungeon... before his FINAL journey into the hereafter. Ashe has no ear for any pleas for mercy...!

Shakhan kneels next to Devargo after Ashe's short exchange with him. He has an expression that is somewhat unreadable but ambles along between grim and grin. "You heard the good man, Spiderking. I'm certainly not going to stand in his way; but tell you what," Shakhan keeps whispering, his words both cold hard certainty as well as a means to an end. "But tell you what: I can assure you a quick finish. Right now. What is it worth to you, huh?"

Human Crossbow Weapon Master 4 / Sniper Rogue 2 / Hunter 2

After sacheling everything up thats carryable, Una follows the rest back out to the deck where Devargo is waiting for his punishment. "I'm with Shakhan on this one, Spidey. Say the word and I'm sure we can arrange a quick break of the neck rather than having you go through the whole justice thing."

... Ashe continues with his determined apprehension of the criminal, but his gaze shifts to both Shakhan and Una perplexed and bewildered, his sensibilities... somewhat offended.

"I'm not sure I understand you two... well Shakhan maybe. I take no joy in ending a man's life - vile or otherwise. Killing is a terrible, terrible thing... but sometimes it needs doing especially when the shed blood of the victims of one man's crimes cry out for justice! Justice does not seem all that important to you - WHY do you even CARE what happens to this man? Shakhan is a pitfighter and I'm sure a life of violence has awakened a bloodlust he has made no secret of but, why suddenly are you so interested in being 'Kind' to this villain?"

"Is justice so unimportant or offensive to you, or are you just SO incensed that proper punishment by the legal hand of authority should ACTUALLY work and deal with this verminous man? Or are you just trying directly to insult and spite ME personally? Are you REALLY that desirous to see blood shed by YOUR hands?"

There is a tinge of true resentment in his tone, obviously all the little comments and remarks of murder and affront to and disdain of legal judgement of this criminal have NOT passed over him and he has not forgotten or ignored them as obviously they have reached the limit to his tolerance and no further has he decided to hold his tongue on the matter...

Varrel is not at all surprised to hear Ashe's stance on this matter and more than a little relieved to hear that Una and Shaktan are able to do what might be later needed.
It was his turn to try and open this Paladins eyes.

I do not believe Una and Shaktan are of bad intentions. Surely a Paladin would not travel with allies of bad intent. They likely would rather we avenge Spiderking's victims here and now. More likely they see that the lawful solution and the just solution are not the same thing. You seem so sure that the Law will deliver him to justice. That may not be so. Look at how many died in that room because ofthis man. There was no warrent for his arrest, as I understand it, this place has been known to be a den of sin and possibly murder for a very long time. The Law can be circumvented and the Law can allow evil to thrive.
I am still a slave Ashe, bought legally and suffered three generations of pain and bondage because the law allows it. That is not right or just. My owner has NOT freed me. I was sent to the Spiderking to die. Since I still live, what does your Law say I should do? Kill myself? Return to a Legal Master who wants me dead?
I am willing to trust in your hope that we can have legal true Justice, for the victims of this man need to be avenged. I am willing to give it a chance, but if the Laws of this city fail to do what is Right and Just, then we must take it upon ourselves to see it happen. A task that will be made much more difficult should he be allowed to live or worse, buy his way to freedom and any deaths he causes from there would be because we allowed him to live. Laws are important Ashe, but the common good must stand above all else. I am the newest here and where we go from here is your groups decision, not mine. Be aware that someday, if you are not willing to do what is right over what is lawful people will suffer for it. So deliver him to the Law if you must but accept the risk that entails and be prepared to accept responsibility if the Law fails to deliver.

Ashe's ...brief flash of anger is quenched by the Varrel's words and he shifts his gaze to him, his expression quite pleased if resistant to actually smile at the elven Magus...

"I could not agree more heartily friend Varrel! I have NO intention of allowing this man to go unpunished... laws or no!! But I have faith in Field Marshall Cressida Kroft, she is an honorable and just woman of high caliber... the only reason this vermin has escaped her is that no overwhelming evidence has ever been found into this man's wrong doing! I can imagine in the raids that were done on the Eel's End that it took little more than laying a rug over his trap door and perhaps placing his throne upon it to conceal his trap for the unwary from the eyes of Korvosan Guardsman. Even a thorough search of his ship... might reveal his door to the spider's lair... a simple deception that 'oh..yeah that room is infested with dangerous monstrous spiders and I have not the resource or manpower to figure out where they are coming from or clean it out... so I just keep it locked and we leave it be!', a simple enough matter considering the vermin infestations of large spiders and WORSE that regularly plague the 'Shingles' portions of Korvosa. I'm sure simple honest guardsmen were easily deceived by a master liar as Devargo, with no blame accountable to them to not expect such vile deeds literally under their very feet! But NOW I... WE have IRREFUTABLE evidence of his wrong doing as a murderer! No amount of bribes to his corrupt officials will save him now as NONE will want their name associated with such overwhelming evidence! Cressida will see this man done for!"

Then Ashe still speaking to Varrel casts his gaze at the condemned man his words plainly meant for him to hear without any uncertainty, "But to be certain if somehow he should weasel his way out of justice... he'd had best not be seen by me ANYWHERE in Korvosa afterward... or I will End him summarily! But I honestly doubt it will come to that... Cressida is a trustworthy woman... I'm sure she will beat me to such needed justice with her own sword or swords she commands long before such a miscarriage goes about THIS time!"

Turning back to Varrel, "...and as for your status... as I have said there are NO laws forbidding slavery in Korvosa... but there are ALSO no laws protecting it either! And EVEN if there were.. I'm under no obligation or moral imperative to enforce them as MY devotion to the INHERITOR... HOLY IOMEDAE takes precedence as the 'Holy Lady' finds such odious practices offensive in the EXTREME! I agree laws are NOT inherently good... or for that matter bad, but I DO feel they are the most fair way to see that everyone is treated with honor and justice in a civilized society! Were it legal to commit human sacrifice in the Law I would have NO compunction in ignoring that law and indeed work to actively stop its employment... perhaps even inspiring the citizenry to RISE up and bring about change to make such an evil law Illegal!"

Then his tone softening, "But it does do my heart glad to know that you are a just-minded person as well... "

Then turning his gaze to his comrades, "...and I ask ALL of you if you don't trust Korvosa's legal system I beg... please - Trust ME! I Promise as Holy IOMEDAE is my solemn witness... I'll not see this man live to escape his rightfully deserved death by Justice's hand... be that the local authority... or MINE own hand - my life and Promise!!! He shall not escape... I Promise!"

[To note Ashe has sworn... not once but three times on this... this is not just a simple turn of 'flowery' words... HE MEANS THIS and he knows IOMEDAE would punish him should he not follow through!]

"hrmph, seems I was a bit too loud - thought he was out of earshot already," Shakhan looks down to the bound form of the Spiderking. "He's taking this awfully seriously, don't you think Devargo? Wasn't that long ago that he offered you leave this city and start afresh - there is hope after all for your damned soul. heh. You feel a bit the fool now, I wager. You make me an offer, and I'll see if we can spare this city some trouble."

He rises and hefts his axe to rest on his shoulder, "I've no worries that justice will prevail over this man. I've no doubt the Field Marshall relishes the thought of more paperwork when she's already busy with a city gone mad. I'm just suggesting that we can reduce the problems Korvosa faces by one - and maybe this one here" - Shakhan boots Devargo - "has something of value he wishes to offer to, ahem, make amends with this city and hasten his departure to hell."

He nods to Una, "Wasn't there mention that we are currently under martial law? I think the law works differently at such time."

Varrel smiles at both Ashes' and Shaktan's words. Legal or No, this group would see the right thing done before anything else.

"Ashe is NOT like Keegan, perhaps Chatterbeak was right. Maybe this young man was beyond the failings of his former friend...."

The Spider King is, as one might expect, rather groggy... and also extremely foul-mouthed. Even Shakhan learns a couple of new words!

And so, you gather everything that you wish to take and repair back to the Citadel as dusk begins to fall. Given what you have brought back, you are whisked in to see the Field Marshal at once.

"I am indeed surprised," she begins. "Whilst I have no pleasure in Devargo's antics, so far he has not placed himself afoul of the law and therefore I have had no exc... er, I mean, no reason to arrest him."

She might have said more, but Devargo starts shouting something about releasing him at once and what fate you meddling folks will suffer. She raises a hand.

"SILENCE! These people have proven themselves, and I shall hear them out. Listen to the case against you, or be taken to the cells to await your trial unknowing, I care not." She looks to you all.

"This had better be good..."

Human Crossbow Weapon Master 4 / Sniper Rogue 2 / Hunter 2

Una produces the vial she gathered from the drug lab. "Well, aside from murder by aberration, he's been producing this stuff. If that's not enough to have him 'brought to justice', Shakhan and I can take him for a walk."

Varrel is uncomfortable in this meeting, mostly because what he was about do to could have dire consequences if Ashe was mistaken about this Field Marshall's disposition. He stepped forward.

Here goes. I hope what little time I've spent with these people is enough for me to count on their aid if this goes south. Ragathiel protect me as I carry out your will

"If I may speak, Field Marshall? I am Varrel, servant of Garrel Whiteshaw of House Thrune. I must first inform you that I am a slave Magus Bodyguard to the Master Whiteshaw. Whether or not my sworn testimony would carry any weight vs a citizen of Korvosa is unknown to me. However, only a little more than a day ago, I was sent before the Spiderking bearing a sealed message for him. Upon reading it I was accosted by Devago's men, on his order, then taken below deck, drugged and beaten. I heard my guards talking about me meeting with Chitters, whom after my rescue by these people, we discovered was an Ettercap executioner in Devago's service. If you search the ship, you will find the Ettercap's Corpse along with the remains of dozens ofhis previous victims.
While my testimony may not be worth anything, I hope those remains, which surely must comprise of Korvosan citizens is enough to secure a conviction.
Further given my Masters attempted disposal of me and my not being a Korvosan citizen, I would submit to the service of the Korvosan Guard for recruitment under the Cities allowed term for military service in order to secure citizenship upon completion. I can prove my magical and martial skills if required and hope you will see fit to accept my service. If such an arrangement cannot be, then I believe given the circumstances of my discovery, 'Sir' Asherick Whiteplume, may have some claim to an unsecured slave or if I am deemed property of the city might be willing to secure my purchase for his house."

Varrel HATED that last part. But he did not know the specifics of local law regarding discarded slaves. He had to hope the notion of being a slave owner was as abhorrent to Ashe as he claimed and that if it came to it, he might claim him to legally release him at a later date. He was putting a lot of faith into a Paladin. Again.

Ashe steps forward to Varrel's side to add further verification of his story, "It is as EX-slave Magus Varrel has said - just so milady 'Marshal' Kroft! There are dozens of corpses under the throne-room by a secret trap door that Devargo has undoubtedly used to send victims to feed the insatiable hungers of his pet Ettercap executioner! We have slain it and it's companion Ogre Spider..."

Ashe's emphasis on the words Ex-Slave need no vague understanding that he has no intention of allowing anyone to return Varrel to his Cheliaxian masters...

Ashe gets a flash of insight, "Though now that Una brings it to light... I finally realize what that drug might be and why you have never found its source... The Ettercap "Chitters" can control spiders... the Iridescent Webbing we saw... I'll be that is the make of Dream Spiders... which 'Chitter's' controls to produce webbing for Devargo to refine into drugs he sells for profit."

[ooc: LOL... this could a stretch, but I looked at my Guide to Korvosa and did a google search on 'Dream Spiders' {Korvosa dream spiders} - specifically, when I saw them mentioned on the encounter charts in the back, wondering if there was any info on them. I Found this link...

"Dream Spiders"

Had no idea it might tie in. I figure Ashe stalking the criminals of Korvosa would have some knowledge on the common 'illegal' vices of the city. Seems a reasonable connection but I could be completely wrong on this one... :) ]

Liberty's Edge

The Field Marshal listens intently to Una, Varrel and Asherick as they present their testimony.

"Ah," she says, a look of enlightenment spreading across her face, "We had long wondered at Devargo's source of his shiver. And you have both a sample and an explanation of it... well done!"

She turns to Varrel.

"Whilst being no expert in the law, I am no supporter of the concept of slavery. For services rendered to Korvosa, I hereby declare you a free being, master of your own fate... and will argue the point with any who seek to deny you, with the law or with my sword!"

She calls for guards to take Devargo to the cells. He looks rather stunned as his entire life seems to be falling about his ears.

Once you are alone with the Field Marshal, she smiles.

"I cannot say - officially - how pleased I am about this. That fellow has long been a blight on our city, but has been untouchable until now. With your evidence, however, we will at last be rid of him. It may take some time to bring this to court, but your testimony will be invaluable. In the meantime..."

She arises and rummages in a chest.

"For going above and beyond in Korvosa's service, I award each of you the pseudodragon's mark, a medal that shows that you are a champion of Korvosa."

These medals are worth 400 gp - a gold disk with a stylised pseudodragon on one side, the Korvosan arms on the other, worn around the neck on a dark red ribbon with black edges - but more importantly, they grant a +2 circumstance bonus on Diplomacy checks made against citizens of Korvosa if worn openly.

Majenko, who'd been lurking in the folds of Ashe's cloak virtually unnoticed, finds this highly amusing and flaps out to investigate the medals. The Field Marshal is enchanted with the little fellow, and asks if he modelled for the medal?

Ashe solemnly accepts the Medal.

"Milady, 'Field Marshall' Kroft, I thank you... though you know for me, at least, seeing Justice done is reward enough, but you are the far better reward - Your forthright action in example to these young Heroes that there are still Good, Honest, people in Korvosa, that this city is Worth saving is the reward I treasure most!!!"

He sighs, "For I too was in a quandary as to what to do about Devargo... for I, in truth, had no evidence into his wrong doing... only the normal 'graff' that is common to the seedier side of life in Korvosa...annoying yes... but worthy of death? Hardly. My heart could not justify simply killing a man because he was a rogue and not very nice... who then would not walk the streets without fear of their lives? I had decided to banish Devargo from Korvosa with stern warnings Never to return!"

"Korvosa, You and yes I owe these young Heroes a debt of gratitude... for it was indeed their admonishments to detain Devargo and seek evidence of wrongdoing first that kept a act of my personal ignorance from allowing a Villainous cur to escape justice as would have happened in my haste to preserve Justice and fairness."

Turning to his comrades, "You have my personal Gratitude and Favor my companions! Korvosa is indeed a troubled city... but she is dear to mine heart and worthy of saving as this sterling woman's example... and I hope in some small part... mine own modest examples show. Please do not loose heart! Our city is worth your efforts and is grateful for your devotion to rooting out the bad elements for the public good!"

Ashe smiles at Majenko, "Aye my friend Majenko there was a prisoner of Devargo and was forced to fight his monstrous spider pets! He can also confirm having seen Devargo actually cast victims in his throne room down to his 'Chitters' their lives forfeit. We also rescued Majenko from incarceration at Devargo's hands! Majenko's assistance was also invaluable!!!"

Ashe proudly hangs the medallion at least briefly around Majenko's sinuous neck...

[ooc: Oh Cool! Accolades! I will have Ashe keep this forsure! :)]

Human Crossbow Weapon Master 4 / Sniper Rogue 2 / Hunter 2

Una looks rather disgusted over Ashe's rather verbose explanations and speeches of gratitude.

"He seems to be going the long way around in saying, 'Thanks'. I usually stop listening to him after the fourth or fifth word. Somehow, 'concise' isn't in his dictionary."

She accepts the medal with a small bow and smile to the Field Marshal.

"Pretty, but I'll probably be selling mine. The only trophies I generally hold onto are those I claim myself."

"As to Liberations, no need to get so high and mighty. Never lose hope of liberation, but libations are much nicer, and I've a mind to relax for the evening if we're done here."

Varrel draws in a deep sigh of relief. He had never dared to hope his freedom could be given so easily. But this, of course, was not Cheliax. His former master may have no idea he still drew air and likely, would not never find out. Whiteshaw was supposed to leave the city the same day 'when you return to me', his Master said. He knew that was not the case and with luck the grandson of his first master was many miles away by now...

"I...I mean..Thankyou, Field Marshall. I confess that after a century of service to the House of Thrune, I had barely any hope left that freedom might one day be possible for me."

Chatterbeak pecks at the accepted medal he attached to his armor.

"I am still a stranger here, this hopefully will make my interactions with the unfamiliar citizens a little easier. Thankyou again. Now, for the first time, I shall have to find a PAYING job. Devago has relieved me of what little silver I had in my purse, but I still have my Blade and my Magic. I shall be ok. Una, I feel like celebrating also. I would join you all this evening, at least in shared company, if not in drink. Master, Hytogg. If the offer to stay with you still stands, I accept. Tonight I will relax. Tomorrow, I must find work."

Shakhan has no trouble wearing the medal around his neck, "I'm beginning to see that there's a life for an ex-pitfighter in Korvosa. I like it."

He puts his arm around Varrel's comparatively lithe shoulders, "Don't worry too much about a paying job just yet. There's still plenty of opportunity to use your real skills while the fires in Korvosa still burn. And... hang around a bit - you can tell me the secret on how to train a bird to talk like that. Maybe I'll get myself one too! hah!"

Why does Crackerman want another Chatterbeak? Chatterbeak is already here!

Chatterbeak flaps over to Shaktan's shoulder and looks him square in the eye (well, as much as a bird can with eyes being on the side of his head).
He says quietly,
Master does not mind if Chatterbeak and Crackerman are friends. Crackerman has bigger shoulders, good for riding if Crackerman does not mind, Chatterbeak will stay with Crackerman unless Master calls, yes? Chatterbeak is very helpful, good at spotting things.

Now some confirmation on the total loot.

When Ashe said take EVERYTHING he meant it! That includes the weapons and armor and money on the downed Enforcers!

So here is what I can find tabulared from the previous posts. Meggan you wil have to confirm whats, what... and either Varrel or Hytogg will detect magic and identify whatever turns up.

I'm expecting all the mundane non-Jewelry equipment sells for half price... unless Meggan is being extremely kind enough to let the Masterwork {Mw} items be sold for 75% or full! :)

So I'll need to know what is and is not found and if its standard price before I sell it and split the loot so everyone knows how much gold their share is.

Perhaps for the first time in his life, Varrel is experiencing what could only be called 'happiness'. Despite the continued unrest within the city he has been able to enjoy being his own Master for a change.
The future appears full of possibility, but he is being cautious with this new freedom. He had found enough freelance bodyguard work to get by and mercifully a flash of steel and a grease spell was usually sufficient to calm anyone accosting his charge. He was delighted at not having to kill anyone.

Living with the Magnificent Hytogg has been a delightful challenge. He is used to being around inflated ego's, yet despite the man's insatiable appetite and narcessism he was possed of a basic kindness and level of insight, Varrel had not seen before. Not belonging to any formal wizard school had always chafed Varrel when he came into his magic, and living with a Wizard was benefitting his study greatly.New spells, Increased Knowledge: Arcana, Planes, Dungeoneering.
It has, however taken great control ensuring Chatterbeak stays away from Morty as the birds instincts prove difficult to tame.

Varrel was unsure whether or not to thank Shaktan for his friendship with Chatterbeak, because while it is nice to have some quiet while his familiar is off visiting the barbarian, he wasn't ecstatic about Shaktan introducing the bird to spirits. It turned out the raven was quite partial to drink and got even louder when sufficiently imbibed. Now he had to worry about his familiars ability to safely fly home after a night out with his friend. Never the less the big man was a fast friend and also proved to be a valued sparring partner. When sober, Shaktan was keen to practice frequently and the regular exercise was benefitting Varrel greatly. Con increase

Ashe, also was proving to be a genuine friend. Varrel was without a formal church to worship at, since his patron was not a true deity and he had found attending sevices with Ashe at the Church of the Inheritor insightful and expanding his understanding of faith Increased Knowledge: Religon, but he was certainly staying true to his divine patron.

He had been having dreams recently, A presence visiting him as he rested. Never speaking, but conveying a message that he would need to be steadfast in the coming days, trials were coming. The presence had given him something,...something that would help him in the coming months to avoid trouble and perhaps avoid having to shed unnessecary blood. When he awoke he felt he had some new power, not a spell, but something. He only had a feeling it was not a directly damaging ability and on an instinct tried it on a stray cat. Many funny encounters later he decided to demonstrate his new talent to his friend by making Shaktan pass out in his cups, but Una had insisted it was merely too much drink.Slumber Hex

Una also continued to draw his intrest. She had remained cool towards him this whole time and Varrel had decided it would take much more of it for her to accept him as a friend. Whether it was his personality, race or something else that threw her, he was unsure. He could only hope in the coming days they would develop some sort of bond and hopefully true friendship. She was clearly not interested or ready for anything more and honestly, he wasn't sure if he was either.

will try to wait for the others to post thier intermissons before posting again.

Also, Meg if I have earnt any of the money from the loot, I'd like to have added Ill omen to my spellbook (10GP)via purchase of a scroll from the Acadamae (25GP). I'll also add Magic Missile from Hytogg's spellbook (10gp) if he lets me use it.

‘Sir’ Asherick Whiteplume spends the next day seeing to the fate of the recued children of Gedren Lamms crimes making sure each of them is in good hands before setting the matter to rest. He does indeed agree to escort the young noblewoman – Lady Jessica Leroung to the gala two days hence and decides to visit his mother’s finishing master Guuthart Florence and brushes up on his courtly skills practicing his Singing and Dancing {Purchase Perform: Sing, Dance}. Ready for court Ashe makes an appearance with his young somewhat bookish young lady… though indeed her mother has seen to it she is ravishingly dressed to show off her none-too-attractive figure that makes her terrible shy at the event. But using his courtly knowledge and his diplomatic and, as Una would say overly flowery speech, smooths over her shyness helping her build her confidence.showing off her dancing skills and intelligence by shifting the conversations and social interaction to let her outstanding qualities show to all potential suitors and the ladies of court who might be new friendships. Steering her clear of any whom he detects the taint of evil upon with gentle whispers of warning and advice. {4th Lvl +1 Chr, 16 Current}.
All in all lady Jessica enjoys the evening with her harming and dutiful escort, shyly stealing a kiss from Ashe as he escorts her home to her Estate before taking his leave.

Ashe indeed shows Varrel to the “Pantheon of Many” - Temple Complex in the Southshore district of the city. Ashe explains that ‘The Many’ holds within its massive octagonal white-marbled walls shrines to 17 different deities. Of the twenty main deities of Golarion, only Gorum, Lamasthu, and Rovagug do not have shrines within the pantheon. The pantheon respects all of the deities it serves—even the evil and chaos-loving ones—so all 17 spaces are equally sized. Clerics of the represented deities tend to their shrines, performing rites (those that do not violate Korvosan law, anyway) under the watch of a pair of impartial observers. No sacrifices of creatures, intelligent or not, is allowed within the pantheon – much to Asherick relief. Ashe spends two days in service and furthering his training in the doctrines of IOMEDAE by the shrine priestess assigned to its care, currently a Adrianna Daver, a dark-haired, green-eyed Chelaixian woman of motherly eyes but stern devotions to the lady of battles. She is there everyday clad in her armor and robes ready to preach and render aid to those seeking justice. Ashe does not demand that Varrel listen only that he follow his heart and seek devotion to the deity of his choice.

But nearly only a week passes before Asherick is called away from Korvosa entirely as the Pathfinder’s have need of his services. Venture Captain Dringle Dreng sends word via a team of Pathfinders that he must accompany them on their journey by ship to Harse on way ultimately to Kaer Maga, ‘The City of Strangers’ to investigate a cryptic missive of dark dealings within. The journey into the sheer clif under the care of the ‘Dusk Wardens’ to seek the twisted Door that lead s into the city proper is attacked by goblins that Ashe is able to implore upon his companions Jimmy ‘Dexterlight’ a Varisian male Witch, Teljilka a female half-Orc Paladin of SARENRAE and Bulgrave a male human Paladin of IOMEDAE to spare one of the goblins as use him as a guide when seperated from their ‘Dusk-Warden’ Escort. Ashe takes the time to learn the basics of Goblin Speech [Linguistics: Goblin]. The plot thickens when they enter the city only to discover their contact has been slain and the rumors of the ‘Shadow Lodge’ are no longer rumors! A showdown in the abandoned Naderi Theatre with the ‘illedged’ head of the Shadow Lodge, Wymund Pratt ends … somewhat inconclusive. Was the Shadow Lodge threat truly ended?

Next the resources of the Mysterious “Ten” send Ashe off to Cassomir under orders from Venture Captian Hestia Femis where a fond surprise awaits Ashe. He is rejoined with his friend and long time companion Aren Lasharo the human stone cutter’s son who joined the Church of IOMEDAE as a Cleric in her service, and not the least his sometimes … more than friend the lovely and dangerous elven woman Tasarra Kalissreavil the Fighter, and ‘tom-boyish’ daughter of the Korvosan Ambassador of the Mierani Elves. Teamed up with Myra a female human Paladin of IOMEDAE, Talathel a male elf Ranger, Miri a male Halfling Rogue, and ‘Zeus’ the male Half-Ork Fighter and Cleric of DESNA, the Pathfinders must team up with the hated agents of the Apsis Consortium to discover who was behind a series of Kidnappings of agents from both their organizations. Ultimately to Pathfinders enter battle with a cult of Doom Disciple Monk Orcs of GROTIS on the shifting decks of the ‘Prancing Prince’ ending in the defeat of Luscilia a female human Cleric of GROTIS the leader of the cult, and the rescue of the abduction victims. The young boy Nefti proving invaluable in seeking the villains. Asherick applies himself with all the ship travel seeking to find something to do while onboard ship he takes training in the ways of the sailor to pass the time with the crew [Profession: Sailor].

The whirlwind of activity seems to be at an end and Ashe almost home to Korvosa when the call of “The Ten” comes again and they mysterious masters of the Pathfinder Society bend their considerable resources to have Ashe and a groups of assembled pathfinder ‘Teleported’ On Orders of Aram Zey to Bloodcove at the head of the Vangi River west of the Mwangi Expanse to enter the city disguised as Pathfinders are NOT wanted there only to be chased from the city after securing supplies ‘diguised as ‘merchants’ for the embattled Pathfinder Expedition into the Mwangi Expanse and hunted by Apsis Consortium agents all on every street seeking the Pathfinders deaths [Perception +1rk]. The Pathfinders send two teams the first team consisting Ashe, Barath the male dwarven fighter, Lucious Lynn a male human Wizard, ‘Sister’ Mariam a female human Cleric of MALANI, Jyhlian a male human Rogue, Shartin a male human Wizard, and lastly Rognov Thrune a male half-orc Paladin of SARENRAE!

Fleeing the city Ashe and his group met up with the second Pathfinder Team set to provide assistance should events go bad in the city and prepare the way for a hasty flight into the Mwangi Expance heading for the dig site at Azlant Ridge. The team consisted of his friend Aren Lasharo male human Cleric of IOMEDAE, Pursuikkinty a male gnome Cleric of ERASTIL, Bryon a male human Paladin of ABADAR, Alana a female human Oracle, and ‘Mary’ a female {forlorn} Elf Rogue. Battling to escape the Apsis Consortium pursuers the Pathfinders arrive at the camp only to find it under siege by an army of Rabid Man-eating Apes! Only taking refuge within the halls of the Azlanti ruins to find some means to escape brings Asherick in contact with the Azlanti Monolith. His body left unconscious his spirit is transferred to within the Titanic Knight and Ashe in control of the Azlanti Monolith strides forth to do battle with the Champion of Cara-Chuum a fiendish Orgrillian of colossal proportions to save the Pathfinders and break the siege!

The victory won Ashe’s spirit returns to his body and for his grand deed and the recovery of such an Amazing Azlanti Artifact, “The Ten” consent to teleport him home for a much needed rest.

So weeks, later it is indeed a tired and somewhat ‘travel-lagged’ Asherick who again appears to his friends in Korvosa recovering from his many journeys. Ashe spends most of his time on his return in quiet study in the libraries of his families Noble Estate continuing his interest in medicine and healing of the sick [Craft: Alchemy].

[OOC: All these adventure coincide with the Scenarios played at GENCON 2010! Which all brought Asherick to level 4. {City of Strangers, Part 1: The Shadow Gambit – 01-51#, The Devil We Know, Part 1: Shipyard Rats – 01-29#, and Before the Dawn, Part 2: Rescue at Azlant Ridge – 02-02# “Unfortunately played out of order… so I included a brief tale of the part 1 played at a later date than his lvl 4 shows!" Nice work, folks... particularly Ashe and Varrel, who have developed loads of stuff to occupy themselves. We'll give everyone else a bit more time to get themselves sorted... :)

As his direct involvement with the salvation of Korvosa takes a break, Hytogg takes the time to finally catch up on his priestly duties for Nethys. The god/goddess was patient with him, as even when not actively working in the deities name, he was still practicing magic, and under the approval of Nethys. still after several weeks of continued devotion, Nethys blessed Hytogg with additional insight.

Having a constant roommate was turning out better than expected as well. Though the constant chattering of his new friends bird, could sometime be aggravating, having someone to bounce idea's and theories off of could only help in his continuing climb to greatness.

Only one thing bothered him. When he looked on the mantle of his newly redecorated home he saw only one medal. Surely Hytogg the Magnificent was deserving of more accolades. Perhaps he should return to active adventuring...get himself out there so others could be reminded of his amazing abilities. Yes that was it. It was time to help Korvosa again. Surely the city would soon fall without his intervention.

Ashe, will you give a final reckoning on what gold the party members have earned. And yes, I figure Varrel should get a share too.

Shakhan - left to his own devices - explores the seedier streets of Korvosa one tavern and brothel at a time. The windfall of wealth that has found its way to him from their exploits against the Spiderking is welcome, but goes mostly untouched as he instead makes a name for himself as a tough guy and arm wrestler - it's enough to cover his drinking, eating and whoring habits.

But, a deeper side develops for Shakhan; he finds that on occasion his thoughts race again. Swiftly. He's still suffering severely from the injuries originally inflicted on him through Lamm's doing, but something has changed. Perhaps the oppressive part of his mind that could only latch itself onto Lamm and getting revenge had finally let go. The suppleness of thought reflected in the agility he was developing again on the floor. Never graceful, he still started to achieve a subtle fluidity that would serve him well in combat.

"Una, do you think Cressida will call on us again? It looks like things are quieting down here in Korvosa."

Before Ashe leaves on his missions for the Pathfinders... he will indeed pay Marshal Cressida Kroft a brief visit informing her that he will be away for a while on Pathfinder Business... but that he would still like to be considered a resource for the assistance for Korvosa.

He will ask if he might be able to requisition a suit of Full Plate of the highest quality... that he would be willing to make payments on from his adventuring shares to pay for and use in the defense of Korvosa. It is a request that he'd like her to consider, for no matter how far he travels... Korvosa will always be his home and he will ever be vigilant in its protection.

Ashe will provide her with the measurements he needs and leave it to her good will as to what she will do. He does not bring the matter up again.

[Yeah, I hear you there Shakhan... but I'm at the mercy of Meggan's time... I need the specifics from her before I can determine anyone's share. I'll just have to be patient. You'll know when I do. Most definitely Varrel should get a shere!]

Chatterbeak returns home to the open window. THUMP!

"Arck! Wrong window, HIC!" AGAIN!
MARRRSHHTER! CHITTERBE...I MEAN CHATTERBEAK HITS STUPID GLASS, HE DOES AGAIN!!! LET ME.IN...PLEASH!

Varrel opens the glass and scolds the.familiar harshly. Something about putting him in a cage after dark.

Wouldn't matter MARRRSHHTER, me and Crackerman jusht drink in daytime. Crackerman shows Chatterbeak, GROG tonite. Tastes horrible. Makes flying funny though. Why is Masshter fuzzy?

Varrel gives up and sets the bird to bed. Again.

Una sips her wine carefully as she glances over at her friend and his sotted bird, already shrieking loud enough to disturb some of the other patrons, if she didn't glare them down with a silent emphasis on the possibility of a bolt in their direction.

"Who knows what military and nobility do these days? I don't particularly care either, so long as they keep to themselves and don't interfere where they're not needed, I'm good."

She suavely lifts her glass out of the way as Chatterbeak swoops chaotically past them in a rush to get somewhere. While she could never get completely used to the screeching nuisance, she had at least learned to tolerate it quietly.

The few weeks she was on her own, Una continued to find work at various institutions around the city. Once even participating in a group venture where the Clerics of Abadar hired them to try to break into their safe. All in all, the city seemed to gradually come back to at least some semblance of order. And where the order got in her way, Una knew how to get around it.

Varrel hefted his new blade and was pleased. He had learned much these last few weeks. How to begin to live free. How to trust again. More than a bit of new Magic. But his friend Ashe's constant insistance he purchase a weapon of cold iron 'given the presence of those outsiders proving constant danger within the city' actually presented a unique oppourtunity. To own a weapon NOT of House Thrune. This fine blade bore NO mark of bondage, but an Arcane Mark of his own. It felt good in the hands...

Asherick comes by Zellara's home... now Hytogg and Varrel's home to visit finally back fro his exhaustive travels on Pathfinder business.

He is clad only in his courtier's clothing a blue shirt and breeches embroidered in silver scrollwork with a double-eagle emblem on his breast. It is perhaps one of the few times the young paladin has been seen by his friends out of his armor. He IS still armed his longsword <DAUNTLESS HEART> and his Alchemical Silver Shortsword in their ornate sheaths hanging from baldrics at his hips. His longish shock white hair tied back with a blue ribbon from his handsome if young features. He seems still recovering as weariness in in his limbs but his frosty blue eyes a vibrant and alert

He knocks at the door to their home and smiles when received, "Greetings friends, may I come in? I'm just here to see how you are getting on. It has been some weeks since last we sat in each other's company. I'd also like to see Zellara to see how she is fairing as well!"

His movement is one of ease but strangely stilted occasionally. He seems of good spirits resting from his many adventures. He takes a seat at the table for a purely social call upon comrades - engaging them in small talk about their accomplishment and recent events important to them.

He is not alone... Majenko flutters in behind him settling upon his shoulder at the tables and Ashe vigorously scratches the spot between his wings... much to the pseudo-dragon's pleasure.

It is a strange realization to the Elder Hytogg, and the long-lived Varrel that the ever-pious and armored paladin outside all his armor and most of his weapons... is so young! Surely he has not seen two decades of life as yet! He seems nothing more than some noble families tall young scion son.

Varrel was quite pleased at how clever he was. It had taken an extra two weeks for the smith to forge his new Cestus. The man had plenty in stock of course, but none of Alchemical Silver. Customers usually want a real weapon made outta this. You plannin on getting REAL close if you're punching were's inna mouth', said the smith, who was convinced of this elfs madness.

Varrel was pleased. His Scimitar would be his primary weapon. He much preferred it. But were he to be disarmed or encounter a devil or werewolf he could simply use the Cestus already on his hand. Genius.

Varrel looked at the man and wondered how a Smith of sufficient skill to make both his Scimitar and Cestus, not see the logic.

Thank-you for your skill. I'm sure the weapons will serve well.

Now he had one more thing to do. Ash and Hytogg would NOT be pleased with my next purchase. But I'll not be forced to rely on my comrades everytime I am wounded. Besides, in this case at least, fell knowledge can be put to GOOD use.

Varrel heads to the academae and purchases scrolls to copy into his spellbook, including an extra copy of INFERNAL HEALING

Upon hearing his friends' entrance, Ashe hears Varrel call, Out here Ashe!

Ashe moves to the back door to find a Shirtless Varrel practicing his forms and strikes on a makeshift combat dummy cobbled to gether from the back ally refuse.

Once again Ashe notes the horrible scars and burns that coat Varrels entire torso. He looked just fine clothed, some would even say handsome. His naked flesh, however corded and muscled, would scare most children and likely repulse any female companion.

Heal DC15:
The judging by the size and depth of most of the wounds, the majority appear to be from the lash. 3 However look like old sword stabs through both lungs and another over his heart.

Varrel takes a break to display the new cold iron Scimitar and the Alchemical Silver Cestus that holds it. So armed but unarmored, he had the look of a gladiator.

Advice well heeded. I should be ready when a threat presents

Ashe leaves the table letting Majenko rest on the padded ornate table chair's seat.

Walking out back he smiles... but his mirth is arrested by the sight of the litany of abuse the elven man has endured written upon his flesh. His shock is only brief and his smile holds firm - but perhaps the smile does not touch his eyes. His frosty blue eyes swirl with deep emotions of anger at and empathy for the hard life his elven friend has suffered.

"Well met friend Varrel!"

Heal {5 Ranks}: Take 10! 10 + 5 = 15

Ashe ponders... that he may know of a Varisian Herbal remedy that... though it may not remove the scars completely... if applied with some regularity... it may smooth them out, eventually, so they are not so unsightly to the eyes. He will have to consult with his mother... for she knows of the 'old ways' and may know a Varisian Herbalist he can consult on the matter.

Thinking to himself, {'Always... spread kindness and the relief of suffering... for it is the greatest service one man can perform, but to sooth the hurts of others.' Words of IOMEDAE's teaching to remember... I only hope he may let me do this for him! I must speak of it in private with him when I can get the herbal treatment for him.}

The young, white-haired paladin grins, "I'm pleased you are satisfied with the 'suggestions' for weapons choice. I'm sure with Chatterbox's fascination with 'Crackerman' - Shakhan is likely getting him into some mischief... but I'm sure Shakhan will protect your friend from any harm."

Ashe walks over to reposition the practice dummy and hold it for Varrel's continued practice.

"I did not wish to interrupt your martial practice... please continue. I'll hold it for you. I merely came to see how well you were doing and enjoying you now life of freedom? Are there any concerns or needs you have that trouble you? I know to go from a life where everything is denied or provided with reluctance to one of full freedom of choice is a big change. And some would find such a change... somewhat frightening. you are not alone you have Hytogg and Shakhan of course... but I am also here to provide what support I may if you have need."

... Ashe is indeed perhaps the most odd 'Noble' Varrel has ever met! Not only is he truly concerned about the happiness of a common non-human stranger to him... but he is willing to serve... even so menial a task as holding a practice dummy for simple martial practice. No 'noble' of House Thrune would EVER consider doing such 'humble' activities... for anyone!

I admit the lack of direction is...unusual. Life as a slave goes by much easier if you can lose yourself in your routine. It is routine that gets me through now. Up at dawn to meditate, breakfast, clean the house, morning practice. Then when Hytogg wakes late and eats, we conduct spell research and so on. Shaktan often comes by to practise when the mood takes him.

Varrel excecutes a deft overhead slash and somehow manages to reverse his blade with blinding speed, the second strike leaving a glowing rune upon the dummy Spellcombat+Spellstrike(Arcane Mark)

My afternoon routine is fairly similar. All up this life allows alot more time for study and combat training. I believe it's benefitting me greatly.

He sheathes the Scimitar and assumes a stance like that of a boxer.
Fighting with the Cestus is new to me. Shaktan has provided invaluable instruction though and I find some similarities with the shorter strikes I employ with my 'Claw'.

This time Varrel executes a right body rip to what would be a kidney, whilst simultaneously completing arcane gestures with his ungloved hand, then delivering his spell with a right uppercut that leaves a glowing rune on the dummies 'chin' Spell Combat+Spellstrike(Arcane Mark)

I believe it's a better option than another handed weapon. I always have it out and an so armed at all times. Then when a threat presents, I can either draw my Scimitar or fight with my gloved hand as required.

Varrel, draws his Scimitar and executes a Two Handed Slash, high right to the low left, half cleaving the dummy and leaving another arcane rune Spellstrike (Arcane Mark), though in the process ruining the dummy.

Another broken. Were that live foes would be so accommodating. We could end every murderer and scoundrel in Korvosa.

Varrel pauses reflectively, Ashe, have you heard the Spiderking's fate? You have seen Field Marshal Ashecroft just after you returned, yes?

Ashe holds the practice dummy firmly for the practiced form strikes and stances of the Magus. He listens intently to his commentary nodding in agreement and paying close attention to his martial tactics and dual Arcane and physical strikes.

"I'm glad to hear you have found some solace in regimen... I too have structured my life around he training schedule I received int he monastery where I was trained as a holy initiate of IOMEDAE."

He grins at his assessment of the new 'claw' tactic of his devising.

"I have seen dual wielding fighters and their combination blows of main and off-hand weapon... some can be quite effective... but I was taught Sword and Shield... two weapon combat is outside my training familiarity!"

Ashe holds the dummy as it is destroyed by Varrel coordinated and punishing attacks... his final blow pushing him back a bit.

Then something... odd happens! Ashe though obviously securely braced stumbles back loosing his grip on the dummy, and begins to tremble... starting in his hands and working its way up to his shoulders... eventually shuddering through his entire body... as he stumbles a few disoriented steps away from Varrel and the demolished practice dummy.

Ashe shuffles a few steps over to a door post of the house where he leans against it recovering from the trembling episode.

He chuckles, "...ah forgive me... I seemed to have... had a... spell again... it will pass..."

For a few odd moments his motions become stiff, stilted in a oddly mechanical fashion as his body trembles again all over. Slowly the episode subsides and his motions become fluid and smooth again and wearily he shuffles over to a stool to take a winded seat.

He laughs uneasily, "I guess... the Artificers were right... seems I pushed myself a little too hard too soon... worry not I will recover. I just need to catch my breath... somewhat."

Varrel watches Asherick stumble, somewhat perplexed. He didn't hit the Paladin and Ashe showed no outward sign of injury.

Are you alright, Ashe? Did you receive some recent injury you have not mentioned

He smiles tiredly, "No, it is... not much. No injury of the flesh... per se', but my spirit... who knows for sure? My mind and soul were transferred into a powerful Ancient Azlanti Artifact... a Titanic Colossus of Adamantine and Mithril! I'm... obviously not an ancient Azlantian... though, indeed, some trace of their blood must run in my heritage or I would not have been able to animate the Weapon to do battle with the Gargantuan Demon Ape - The Champion of Cara-Chuum! My soul was not annihilated by contact with such a powerful artifact... but my spirit remembers the strain of being encased within the mighty magical artifact. I'm sure a pure-blooded Azlanti would not feel any... strain from the experience... but it was a desperate... and unexpected salvation for the entire Pathfinder Expedition... so it served well for the moment of dire need!"

"The Pathfinder Artificers warned me that I might have episodes like this... after the experience - for a few weeks as my soul recovered from the strain... 'the spirit remembers'... they said. Though they did not come outright and say so... I think they were a-wonder my mind and soul were not blasted out of existence from contact with the Ancient Weapon of the Azlanti. They hinted I should NEVER seek to bond with the construct again... lest my spirit be lost forever!"

He chuckles softly... a bitter tenor to his mirth.

"As if "The Ten" would ever let me lay eyes upon the Artifact again... let alone near the Artifact Weapon once more! I told them, 'trust me... invulnerable Adamantine Titan is no substitute for mortal flesh... I'll stay well clear of such in the future if possible..."

He ragains his footing, "Fear not my friend... the... episodes come in less frequency now... my spirit is healing... I just need rest... and to be a bit... 'kinder' to myself!"

Titanic AZLANTI Colossus? What the hells?

Varrel is unsure whether to believe his VERY young friend. Ashe seemed capable enough an adventurer but if the was travelling with friends of sufficient power to send him on those distances then he must be very well connected. Either that or the boy was simply trying to impress.

Come inside, I thinly we both need some water.

Ashe nods, "Aye... some drink and quiet relaxation... would be nice! My thanks."

Ashe follows Varrel inside and takes a seat at the table... picking Majenko up from his padded chair-seat to set him in his lapp. He vigorously scratches the cooing tiny-dragon.

"I have been resting at my families estate since my return from the recent Pathfinder expeditions. I have not been by Citadel Volsheynek to consult with Marshal Kroft, as yet, but she indicated last time it might be some time before his trail would be brought to case. But rest assured... I'm sure she is keeping him well secured for his inevitable and justly deserved End. I've been mostly catching up with my Alchemy studies into medicinal remedies and alchemical mixtures."

Fantastic as his tales may seem... there is no self-aggrandizement in his manner. Boosting has never been Ashe's manner... if these tales are not true... perhaps it is his sanity that one should question? Though he does seem lucid enough. He has mentioned his affiliation with the Pathfinders before and about three weeks ago... he did come by to say farewell as he was leaving Korvosa for a Pathfinder Expedition.

"Have you been by the 'remains' of the "Eel's End" to see who has taken up residence in the old lair of Devargo?"

Truthfully, I have avoided the place entirely. My former master is a wizard of no small ability. While I was sent to Eeels End to be killed, he may not trust the job was completed. While I fully intend to see him laid low for the cruelties he has inflicted on me and continues to do to the Halflings the house keeps, I know that for now his abilities palce him beyond me. I have asked Shaktan to keep an ear to the streets, since he frequents the taverns and bordello's and is far more likely to come up with any useful information. In truth the reasons I have allowed Chatterbeak to spent so much time with him are two fold.
One: If the famous and easily recogninsable pit fighter is connected to the attack, Chatterbeak is to fly high to follow, should he be taken and return and infrom me if anyhting happens.
Two: I am unknown here, It adds a bit of fear to Shaktan's legend for the taverns to know the man is friends with an unknown wizard.

Ashe nods in agreement, "A wise and prudent course of action friend Varrel. I think you will fair well in your new-found freedom."

"You may wish to consider perhaps seeking further education in the Halls of the Acadamae... if it is further Arcane proficiency you seek."

"I know the Acadamae does charge a stiff tuition beyond your means... but most noble families of means here in Korvosa receive a scholarship to the Institution for the education of their young scions. Even I and my sister Cynthia have have been so awarded due to the wealth of our family."

"If perhaps my family were to sponsor you for your admission, you might have your tuition for far less! The Acadamae is the finest School of Arcane learning in All Varisia! But simply make it and offer and leave it to your sensibilities..."

Ashe spends the next hour or so discussing Korvosa and its history with Varrel. Taking the time to make him aware of the city's highlights and names of it finest stores. He makes small talk about Varrel's plans for the future and his goals. Ashe speaks of the various noble houses and merchant families that hold sway over banking import and export of goods in Korvosa. Mostly passing the time informing Varrel about the ins and outs of the Great Varisian City.

Varrel listens intently to Ashe's words. The Academae HAD crossed his mind, in fact unknown to Ashe he'd already been there in previous weeks to purchase scrolls and spell components. Had been there, just that day and bought a second scroll of INFERNAL HEALING , which was tucked away in his room. Ashe would not understand.

He let Ashe continue on about the city, Varrel had no interest in the nobility beyond learning who NOT to cross, but the rest he was quite interested in.

As the afternoon wore on Varrel began to wonder where Hytogg had got to. He had very good idea where Shaktan likely was.
Una came and went as she pleased an kept odd hours, so he'd tried to stop thinking about her, but often found himself unable to do so. He needed some fresh air.

Ashe, I do believe I'd like to see some of these places you speak of. Are you up for giving me a tour?

Varrel moves to collect his weapons and armor, a bit out of professional habit, largely also because besides a few nightshirts he actually still had very little in the way of normal clothes.
