Ashe ponders Mr. Gwenn's words.

"Hmmm... the trap is triggered by looking at it eh? Is it a trap that resets after triggering in a certain amount of time... or does triggering the trap expend its usefullness? Is it an area effect blast damage effect or a target one person effect? What effect is it specifically... perhaps we have magic that can protect us from its effect?"

"I only ask for these details as if the lever is enchanted with a magic trap... Mage Hand will not work on the lever as mage hand can not pick up or move magical objects."

AC 11 (T 11 FF 10); CMD: 15; Maximum HP: 42; Current HP: 42 F +6, R +6, W +9

"A symbol of insanity."
He explains how the symbol spell works. The lever itself isn't magical, so maybe Mage hand will work.

Does the lever need to be pulled up or down?

"Hmmm. This is not a job for the spirits. I once knocked a knife-wasp nest off a balcony using forty feet of rope. We draped the centre of the rope over the nest, each stood twenty feet away, heaved and ran."
"Does anyone have rope?"

Ashe ponders Mr. Gwenn's description of the nature of the magical trap.

"That is a powerful enchantment ...8th circle at least! That's way above our current power... I wonder which Arkona has the casting power to lay that spell?"

In reply to Ebon Wing, "I'm afraid, that would be imprudent Ebon Wing as... the trap is triggered either by touching the lever, but primarily by looking at the lever where the symbol is inscribed. Anyone looking at the symbol within 60'ft will trigger the spell. To wrap a rope around it ..one would have to look at it~ a problomatic thing considering the size of the room."

"But, that all said... I think I know a way to trigger the spell without looking at it myself or touching it. It only effects those looking at the symbol within 60'ft of it correct Mr. Gwenn?"

AC 11 (T 11 FF 10); CMD: 15; Maximum HP: 42; Current HP: 42 F +6, R +6, W +9

"It creates a 60-foot-radius area of effect, which lasts...a long time, so if you trigger it, we'll still have to wait a while before going in there. If it's not set to trigger by touch, we could just throw a cloak over it, but since it's on a lever, triggering by touch seems highly likely. I could try to dispel it..."

Ashe nods, "Either way we have to risk triggering it... and I'd rather you not waste your magic on a dubious chance to dispel.. what.. Archmage {Caster Level 16th+}, at least, casting power to even set such a trap?"

"Don't worry.. this lever is not the one I want to try first anyways... so waiting for the Symbol to become non-functional is not really an issue. We're in here as long as it takes... effectively."

"Though if you can just avert your eyes and walk over to the trap... even if the symbol is active we could just toss a cloak over it and then use a mage hand to pull on the, then obvious, covered lever OR just cast unseen servant and order it to pull the lever in the room. But I'd rather have this Symbol no longer a threat so having it burn its duration while we do other things is fine with me."

"I have a plan... I got this."

He sets Majenko on Mr. Gwenn's shoulder, "..Majenko YOU stay with Mr. Gwenn for right now.. this is going to be a little tricky..."

The tiny pseudodragon chirps in disappointment but regards the elderly Master Sorcerer with a curious cocking of his sinuous neck.. his tiny flicking in and out in an unreadable expression.

Ashe reaches into his Handy Haversack belt pouch and pulls out a pair of Smoked Goggles, donning them he lowers his helmet visor... and walks to the north wall of {E8}..specifically the square where the 'E' is.

Then touching the wall, Ashe closes his eyes for added precaution and feeling the wall follows it to the east. Finding the turn of the corner into the rooom with the lever Ashe follows the wall continuing to face the wall no more than a foot away from his face. He follows the now west wall of the room with the lever in it until he reaches the corner.

Still facing the wall, effectively standing in the corner, Ashe opens his eyes and reaches into his Handy Haversack belt pouch and pulls out his tome of spell scrolls. His eyes focused on its pages he turns to his Bard Spells.. and unlatching the binding he removes a summon minor monster scroll from his repertoire of bard spells. Snapping the binding shut again he returns the tome to his magical belt pouch.

Ashe then casts the spell summoning... 1d3 ⇒ 3 Celestial Weasels... one of which he calls into his hand when it appears.

Ignoring the other summoned weasels on the floor or whatever.. Ashe closes his eyes again .. and firmly holding the Weasel in his Inheritor's Gauntlet hand he turns toward the lever and the Symbol and lets the weasel look at it... and mentally orders the other weasels to look at the lever as well; as per the capabilities of monster summoning spells they must obey his command.

He mutters under his breath, "Forgive me.. but our need is great..."

Immediately they all go permanently insane as they trigger the symbol... they may attack Ashe.. but likely even blind Ashe's Full Plate armor is beyond their ability to harm in any appreciable way. 6 seconds later.. all the weasels vanish back to the realm they were summoned from.

Ashe turns back to the corner then sets down his masterwork backpack, opening his eyes to rummage through his pack for his Explorer's travel cloak... which on stand he averts his gaze and tosses the cloak over the lever obscuring the threat of the symbol, and keeping anyone from suffering it touch trigger as something is in the way.

Lifting his visor he smiles as he removes his smoked goggles and stows them back into his magical belt pouch, "Now the Symbol is no longer a threat as it can run its duration without risk to any of us."

You have to actually look at it. Which is pretty insidious cause you don't know there is a threat until you see it and then.. its too late!

Megan... if I am wrong about this.. the Symbol needed to be looked at... Ashe can just forgo triggering it and just drape the cloak over it so it at least it can't be triggered by touch or looking at it.

AC 11 (T 11 FF 10); CMD: 15; Maximum HP: 42; Current HP: 42 F +6, R +6, W +9

The symbol spells specifically call out that, if triggered by touch, covering it with a cloak counts as touching it. It also doesn't say anything about having to look at it to be affected once triggered. Wait until Megan says if the lever goes up or down. If down, we can just mage hand something on top of it.

Yeah, but the spell specifically says, "Until it is triggered, a symbol of death is inactive (though visible and legible at a distance of 60 feet). To be effective, a symbol of death must always be placed in plain sight and in a prominent location. Covering or hiding the rune renders the symbol of death ineffective, unless a creature removes the covering, in which case the symbol of death works normally." And all other runes have works as Symbol of death ...except for effect.

OK. The symbol of insanity is only triggered by looking at it. It is also a one-off, once triggered it expires at the end of the duration (and the scribed symbol disappears).

So, you want to drive some weasels crazy, throw shirts around or what?

Ashe returns to the party, "Now let's find out what the first Lever does."

Ashe moves to the first room {E3} and the lever within.

"We might all want to be on this side of the Seam in the floor... just to be sure... since when we pulled this lever before the room outside the seam changed."

Ashe waits for everyone to get into whatever location they wish then turns to watch the seam at the choke point as he pulls the lever.

Ashe has no words of supplication for Ebon... in his heart he does feel them; but he can only lower his head in shame and not meet the Druid Menhir Savant's gaze.

The truth being... Ashe values the lives and sanity of mortal sapient moral beings more than animals only capable of instinctual morality. He Hated having to harm both the weasels and the pony he summoned... but the choice was for him or one of his companions to bear the risk of being maimed or killed by the traps in the Arkona death maze... without a proper trap specialist to assist the JUSTICARS... Ashe was left with only bad choices. He tried every approach he could to avoid or disable the traps without causing harm, but the arrayed magic is just too powerful. Hung in the balance of the countless innocent lives of Korvosan citizens whose future may very well rest with the JUSTICAR's success... Ashe had to make a choice.

He prays his goddess will forgive his decision... and offer him the chance in the future to atone for mistreatment of the poor summoned beasts.

Then Ashe strides over to the new adventurers and Jord Sturmsson hand offered in greeting, "Well met, Sturmsson, the danger is nullified now you may now lower your gaze; do you or any of your companion's also require healing or remedy?"

Jord grasps the proffered hand in greeting.

"No injuries that I know of but who knows what happened while we were out. Anyway what is the tactical situation and how can I help you achieve your goals in here?"

Ashe nods and smirks sligtly, 'direct and to the point... definitely an inquisitor...'

"Currently, I am the only martial combatant of the Justicars, we have Ebon a Driud-Menhir Savant~ meaning he has special senses for all forms of spirits simply put, I'm sure there is more to it than that but that is the basics. We have Edmund, a Sorcerer-Sage of arcane lore."

"Our current task is to locate a Vencarlo Orisini~ Master Duelist and confidant of 'Field Marshal' Cressida Kroft commander of the Korvorsan Guard. We believe Vencarlo found out that ’Seneschal’ Neolandus Kalepopolis was being held in Arkona Palace as prisoner. We are here to locate and free both men. We learned that House Arkona is overrun by Rakshasas' and ’Lord’ Golario Arkona is in fact a Rakshasa himself. We 'reluctantly' spared his life on his reveling the location of both Vencarlo and Neolandus as being imprisoned in this the Arkona Dungeons...called the Vivified Labyrinth, and held prisoner by Golario's sister... Vimanda Arkona, also a Rakshasa, that Golario wants us to kill. We have mapped out several sections of the 'Vivified Labyrinth'.. but have yet to have found either man.. or run across Vimanda. I believe the walls shift in this maze to confound mapping to some extent."

Ebon looks at Ashe, then shrugs
"Not exactly... I'm a Lawyer. A dead one. I managed to negotiate to return to the city - and life - to free my family from Undeath. My Nosoi officer is here watching now. As a, I suppose, 'half-spirit' I'm able to see and hear the spirits around us. I've a knack for negotiation and have managed to accrue several favours and services from them. While I'm not actually a priest of nature, I bear a more than passing resemblance."

Ashe smiles, "My mistake Ebon, you are welcome... I was only describing an overview of your abilities. I've seen you shape-change as druids do."

"Regardless, we should all move on... Vencarlo and Neolandus have been here longer than any of us.. their lives are in grave risk, we should not tarry. Jord, if you will take the right flank when we enter the room~ please... let's, at least, search the connecting room for threats...?"

Ashe hefts his shield sword in hand and moves to the doorway, another apparent seam in the floor ceiling and walls to peer into, but not enter room {E20}... he scans for magic with his still running detect magic and also detects evil from the doorway.

Ashe whispers to Jord when he is near, 'By the way... Majenko can route telepathic messages to party members when silence is ...prudent, just think to him and he'll relay your meassge.'

Majenko stirs restlessly on Ashe's armored shoulder...eager to move on as well...

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

You are currently standing in E18. Looking north (according to Ashe's Pathfinder), there is another of those odd constrictions beyond which you can see a larger room (E20).

A great green throne sits atop a dais in the northern end of the room. To either side stand statues of a tiger-headed man — each holds aloft a pair of chains from which manacles dangle. Dried blood spatters the walls, floor, and even the throne and statues, filling the room with its stale reek.

Someone is manacled to the western statue — dressed in tattered rags, his body a display of bruises and partially healed cuts and scrapes, head slumped.

Stirring from her state asbif having too much to drink the night before, Janatris sat up with a groan as her senses came to her.

"Ugghhh... Wh-where are we?"

Her head was throbbing as she sat up from her spot. As she began to take in her immediate surroundings, taking note that More was already up and about. Dex hadn't moved yet. There were also others here that she didn't recognize, but things hadn't turned ugly yet.

Janatris at stood up, taking a moment to check her possessions. Content that everything was accounted for the moment, she reached for her wineskin to soothe her strangely parched throat. How long had she been out?
