Ashe replies, "No... not that I possess, Lady Selito. But .. there may be a means to determine if there is a threat in the chests."

If the cobra is slain by Ashe's swing he will sheath his pole arm back into his Efficient Quiver and sheath his longsword. Entering the room he cautiously looks into the center chest to see if there is anything else in the chest and get a look at the messages on the lids. Can he read any of it?

Linguistics: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25

"Perhaps you might want to check the remaining chests for traps.. Lady Selito after I do what I can to determine some of the threat? I'm guessing they are nothing but traps in here .. why else have a bloodstone in this room if not for the perverse Arkona to be able to watch and enjoy the prisoner's anguish as they try to determine what's in the chests? This is clearly not an exit.. nor a prison cell."

Then Ashe will take a step back from the chest and pull his scroll tome from his Handy Haversack-Belt Pouch and thumb through his paladin scrolls to pull on free from the binding.

Ashe will cast detect poison and regard the other two chests to see if they are... as he suspects, nothing but more poison-based traps; thinking, {Afterall... why put anything useful in a prison dungeon for the prisoners?}

The grumpy snake is dispatched without further ado.

The writing on the chest lids appears to be in Vudran. Can anyone read that?

Both the chest to the left and the chest to the right show up as being poisoned. The open chest contains six potions, none of which indicate as poison.

Ashe nods, "Yeah... nothing but traps. Both of the other chests are poisoned .. in some fashion. I don't know how. The script on the chests is Vudrani. I'd suggest we just leave them alone."

Ashe uses his mage hand to pick up the potions. The potions may be magical bu the containers themselves are not likely magical so its just a matter of weight.. which potions are effectively weightless as per their description.

Doesn't Ashe's Linguistics roll allow him to figure out what the words say? He did roll a natural 20!

Ashe turns, "...I can try to determine what these potions are... but I'd rather do it outside this room full of poison traps..."

Ashe after splitting up the potions turns to the south door and detects for the presence of evil or magic... if it is just a wooden door of maybe only 3" inch thick wood his detections should still work in a 60'ft cone beyond the door.

Liberty's Edge

There is magic, but no evil presences, beyond the door. Magic to the left, a small concentrated node, and ahead - quite a bit, diffuse.

"Ayup. Sooner we get who we came for, the sooner we can deal with the real issues here." Lucia opens the door and strides into the room beyond, confident that there aren't any issues beyond.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

The door opens easily.

Imagine a T-shaped hall, you have entered on the top-side of the crossbar at one end. At the far end of the crossbar there's an opening to another room. The long shaft of the T has a constriction part-way down, where you can see another slight gap in the walls, then it extends for about 10 feet to a blank wall. (It's a bit difficult to explain, I'll post a map on Saturday.)

Now here's the odd thing. Both walls of this twenty-foot-long corridor are decorated with row upon row of tiger heads. Each head appears to be that of an actual, once-living tiger. The heads are remarkably well preserved — their gaping mouths and glaring eyes even appear to be moist.

Ashe follows Lucia... panning his gaze about seeking the source s of magic he detected before.

If the bright source it around the corner to the other "T" Ashe will disregard it, for now... facing the hall of lion heads.

Stepping forward Ashe readies his shield.. sword in hand, "...that must be the diffused source of magic... looks like a trap."

He scans around looking for another Bloodstone gem... and tries to identify the nature of the magic, now that he can directly look at the magic.

Here is your new map.

At a best guess, Ebon Wings and Ashe, these were once living tigers whose heads were taken and mounted as trophies... and then animated! No bloodstone in here, though, at least not obviously. Does anyone wish to search?

As Ashe moves forwards, they snap at him... and each head appears to be mounted on an extensible serpentine neck. How far down do you want to go?

With the heads slain, Lucia steps forward into the hall, cautiously avoiding the slimy results of Ashe and Ebon's work. A ten-foot-wide, two-foot-tall well rises from the centre of this circular room. Inky water fills the well nearly to its rim, obscuring its depths. A stone statue of a rearing snake rises from the center of the well. Along the length of the serpent's body are carved dozens of arms crossed over the creature's belly — each arm grips a long curved blade. The statue's serpentine head rises ten feet above the surface of the water, gazing down coolly to the northeast with amethyst eyes.

Clinging to the statue is a wet and frightened looking man.

Ashe listens to the elderly man's words and nods slowly with empathy, "...I'm truly sorry, sir... We have found no other prisoners anywhere in Arkona palace, as yet. Do not make any mistake.. the corrupted blood-line of Raksahsa that now have taken over House Arkona are evil to be sure.. but we know the source of Korvosa's ills is from an even more sinister source... and closely associated to our Queen Ileosa."

"You may join us in our search ... if you are willing to perform the same gesture of your humanity.. that I did with my own blade? A small cut to show us that mundane weapons actually can hurt you."

Turning slightly to the party.. but not taking his eyes off the man, "...I can detect no evil upon his person.. though there are a myriad of ways to confound that~ we will just have to be wary"

Turning his attention back, "And who are you sir and~..."

Ashe stops himself.. just before taking a step into the room, "...Er and why sir are you.. embracing such an ugly and vile-looking depiction of a monstrous lizard god?"

"Because of the nasty blade trap that springs out when you get near the water. The only safe place in the room is here."

That being said, the man casts a spell, and floats up off the statue and over to the others. Landing in front of Ashe, he holds out his hand. "I'm Edmund Gwenn. Pleased to meet you. Help yourself."

Ashe notes the statues base and the circular room with a wary nod... and takes clear note of Mr. Gwenn's magical proficiency...

Kno: Arcana 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16

...but does not quite identify the spell.

Thinking, {...might be a fly spell.. but that seems a bit powerful for just a spell of convenience.. unless he's really powerful and can spare the magic?}

Ashe looks at the offered hand and smiles,".. I'm a man of faith ...so I think that I'll trust to your offered gesture merely as a sign of good faith. I'm sure any true Rakshasa would have found some other way of subterfuge than to risk revealing themselves. I'll not need any further proof of your genuine nature Mr. Gwenn. I promise we'll do all we can to try and save your boy!"

Ashe instead accepts the offered hand in a firm but respectful handshake.

"I know not how proficient your are with arcane magics Mr. Gwenn.. but any assistance you might provide would dearly be appreciated!"

Retired

Lucia eyes the door, tapping her foot impatiently against the stone floor. "Yes, some more help would be nice. There's no telling how big this place is, or how much time we'll spend searching it, and your skills could be useful. And speaking of time...we should move on. We've got people of our own to find."

Edmund returns the handshake, then looks about the room. Spotting where he tossed it during his frantic leap to safety, he casts a spell and his gentleman's cane - dark polished wood with a silver swan handle - floats over into his hand. Another spell, and the water drains itself from his clothes and hair.

"Right-o. I'm afraid that I had gotten myself rather lost down here. With no true idea of where to go, I used an invisibility potion and followed some guards, but then had to hide rather quickly as the potion ran out. When I heard you coming, I ducked through this secret door I had found earlier. I have yet to explore that direction," he finishes, pointing to whichever paths the party has yet to explore.

He offers a gentlemanly arm to Lucia. "My dear, shall we?"

Ashe steps aside to let Edmund by and scans the room with the pool and statue, looking at the base of the statue without entering the room and looking at the floor to see if there are any scratch marks on the floor that indicate how long the blades are and give a clue where the pressure plates are that actuate them if possible.

Does there appear to be a way to avoid the pressure plates on the floor that activate the trap... or a safe path one can step to avoid the trap?

Perception: 'Take 20!' ~ Ashe has the time and has been told the nature of the trap so he knows where to look' 20 + 7 = 27

Map update

Edmund, you came along the passage but you don't remember much before that, you'd been wandering in darkness for quite some time. Indeed it had been dark along there too, you'd been groping along. All you recall is that the floor was blood-red and there were some kind of metal statues along the walls, spaced out like soldiers on parade.

Ashe nods at Mr. Gwenn, "Very well lets see where you've been wandering around in and if there is a dungeon connected to it."

Looking into the circular room Ashe examines the floor looking for the tell-telle signs of activation pressure plates. Then regards the distance to the lip of the fountain...

Taking a few steps back Ashe does a running leap over the 5'ft section of floor in the opening of the secret door into the circular room.

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22

The magical boots of striding and springing making the feat easy.

Then Ashe repeats the feat moving around on the fountain to leap the 5'ft section of floor in front of the only other exit from the circular chamber to land in the little section of connecting hallway. {The Square with the '0' of {E10}}

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25

At which point Ashe detects evil for any sources within a 60'ft cone before him drawing <DAUNTLESS HEART> to shine its magical radiance as he peeks down the diagonal hallway...

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27

Majenko flies ahead.. much to Ashe's worry, flying 60'ft down the hallway searching for anything living in the hallways beyond with his keen draconic senses... and then fluttering back to perch on Ashe's armored shoulder to report what he's seen telepathically.

Ebon calls upon a rather cryptic deal he brokered with Arachnidae, shares it with his companions and then runs over to the wall. "It will be safer here" he assures them.

Communal Spider Climb. Could have given it to Ashe. I guess up to people as to whether they'd like to be under the effect.
