After the fiend regains conciousness.. "I'm going to ask you a few questions.. Not answering truthfully will garner a punishment.. And I will know if your lying. First off, do you have Neolandus Kalepopolis and Vencarlo Orisini detained here? If so, where are they? Second, whats behind the big magical door over there?"

Upon his response Graxer will activate Discern Lies as an immediate action as well as using Sense Motive.. It gets a will save vs the Discernment DC 19, but no SR..

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 26 ⇒ (1) + 26 = 27 Sweet roll..

The rakshasa blinks and then glares, takes a deep breath.

"Yes, yes, of course I have them, tucked away safely never you fear. As for the door, it merely opens onto my vault, those small treasures I have accumulated."

He takes another breath and shifts slightly, getting more comfortable.

"Now, I want you to consider my offer. You won't get a better deal. Still, if it's Kalepopolis and Orisini that you want... well, handing them over to you is, shall we say, a trifle complicated. You see, they have been sent into the Vivified Labyrinth. I won't retrieve them for you, but I shall tell you the secret of the elephant statue in the garden, how to access the caverns below the palace and where to seek the secret door that leads into the labyrinth. So what say you? Do we have a deal?"

He puts his head to one side and smiles.

Graxer, you are convinced that every word spoken is true.

If we slay him outright we sacrifice them as well. If we make a deal Ashe will not be able to renig on his promise.." Looking at Ashe.. "Isn't there something in yalls codes that lets you deal with a lesser evil to defeat a greater? I know you hate what that thing is in there, but dont you think saving Kale and Vencarlo is worth bargaining with it? Is saving Korvosa worth it?"

Varrel smiles, An oath to a liar is no oath at all. I will agree to let him live. Get us to the entrance. I will do the rest later. Or if Ashe is uncomfortable with that arrangement, we can bring the creature along with us, bound. Once we have them, we can dispatch him then. This Vivified Labyrinth is no doubt trapped and guarded, with wards the master of the house has means to bypass, right now he is only offering entrance into a LABYRINTH. things designed to confound and imprison. It is not a good deal. He comes along.

Ashe is clearly unsatisfied with making ANY deal with the evil fiend.

Spellcraft: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15

But instead he turns to Varrel, "Friend Magus Varrel... is arcane mark one of your possessed spells? I'll make no deal with this treacherous fiend... but I'll consent to let it live for now... if we can Arcane Mark it. That can be tracked and found again with scrying and other detection spells... and I believe it is permanent. All we need do is render the creature unconscious so it does not know we have marked it. I am, however, opposed to it coming with us into a trap infested labyrinth... it would be watching for the opportunity to betray us and strike when we are at a disadvantage. We four have precious little time to watch for traps, enemy guardians, and a potential powerful spellcasting wicked fiend in our presence. We have no way of knowing if Varrel's curse took."

"I don't like even this compromise... but Graxer is right - time is of the essence! And personally... I don't think we need his specious clues... I've been a Pathfinder for two years now... and I've never had as prepared a team of investigators as the arrayed JUSTICARS I'm with now! I'd prefer to have faith in all your skills.. Graxer's sharp eyes & even sharper sword, Varrel's arcane might & knowledge and Ebon's wise insights and divine guidance! I'd trust your hunches better then any 'hints' some evil shape-changing liar would provide ANY day! We don't need him for anything!!"

Varrel shakes his head.
I don't have that prepared, Ashe. I do have a BRAND spell and I can cast it over and over until I succeed, but the mark will only last 8 days and can be scraped off with some blood loss. I would be more effective to take a hand and track a one armed man. Without some means to actually regenerate that would be a way to mark him regardless of what shape he assumes.

His tone is soft... meant not to chastise or accuse... merely to explain to his Zealous dear friend.

"A sample of his blood will make fine material link to finding him should he flee or seek to hide again. I can pierce his flesh with my weapon with ease..."

Turning to Graxer, "Yes, we'll leave him tied up... but we want a sample of his blood. Tying him up will be useless...he'll just shape-change out of it... but the sample of blood is mandatory!"

It is clear Ashe is not happy with the arrangement, but right now wants more to find Neolandus Kalepopolis and Vencarlo Orisini sooner rather than later if they have both been consigned to the torture dungeon "Vivified Labyrinth" of the Arkonas.

Let's get this game moving again...

Varrel stalks into the room and draws his new Kurkri +1 and stands over the creature menacingly.
You have your deal, fiend. Open the door and speak truthfully of what you have offered. The way to Vencarlo and Neolandis and this statue. Weigh carefully your answer, because for all your power, you are an evil outsider. I think my friends demonstrated how dangerous they are to something like you when they felled you so easily. Speak truth and do not make us come for you again.

Right now our need to find Neolandis and Vencarlo ... outweigh our need to destroy you... do not give us need to alter that. We already know there is some portal under the garden fountain... we are quite capable we could figure it out without your likely deceptive clues. But for expedience - we will not fight you know. THAT is the BEST DEAL your going to get ME to agree to - you fiend! Take it or die now! It matters little to me which you choose..."

Liberty's Edge

Glorio shrugs, like he couldn't care less.

"If that's the way you want to be, then go to the garden room where you will find a life-size statue of an elephant. It's a figurine of wondrous power, but that's not important now. The platform on which it stands is a secret portal to what lies below. At the very centre is a hidden switch that will gain you access. It will rise and rotate, revealing a spiral staircase. This remains accessible for some ten minutes and then closes automatically. From below, there is another switch twenty steps down the stairs which will also trigger the mechanism. Below is a hidden garden. The guardians will attack you, I cannot prevent them - anyone who isn't an Arcona will be attacked. Sorry about that. Climb down the cat's cradle of rope ladders to sea level, where there is a cavern. In the wall you'll find a secret door which gives you entry to the dungeon."

He smiles lazily.

"Have a nice trip."

Satisfied, "Let's be about this!"

Ashe turns and leads the way back to the Balcony overlooking the Garden outside the bath below on the first floor.

"We will not be going downstairs through ANY of those double-doors into the Garden below just to set off another alarm! I'm sure there are Guardians in the garden as well, half-truths and deception are what Rakshasa's thrive on!"

Ashe casts detects evil in the general direction of the Statue of the Elephant in the garden... casting his 60'ft cone about to seek any traces of evil within the garden... before he simply leaps over the edge of the balcony to settle softly to the garden below Nodachi in hand and glowing with magic ready to fell any foes that present themselves...

I'll leave him alive, I am not leaving him conscious, he'll attack our rear. Graxer, would you kindly knock him out again? Please

---------------------------------------------------------------------

ONLY READ IF GRAXER KNOCKS HIM OUT. ESPECIALLY YOU ASHE:

Varrel waits for Ashe to begin leaving. Then he activates his FLIGHT HEX. And walks up to the bound Arkona and grabs him.

The deal was to let him live.
Then with all the speed he can muster flies out the window with him, using the Outsiders body as a shield through the glass. (The glass would hurt him anyway)

He uses the CHARGE action, straight up!
You cannot RUN but you can charge 120ft per round
I may not be able to harm you but you do need to breathe.

He knew the thing had much in the way of defenses so this was the only prudent action he could think of.

He sprints (120ft per round, 1 min increment gets 1200feet) to get as far over the ocean as he can in 1 min.

I am pretty sure this will work, unless you can swim to shore
He drops the creature. The blood upon it's clothes would bring the sharks.
And he doesn't feel the least bit guilty.
Then he uses another minute of flight to charge back to the mansion.

Seeing the horrified look on Ashe's face he offers an apology.
I dropped him in the bay. I hope he drowns. I am only sorry for betraying your promise, Ashe.
But I cannot let your deal allow him to go free. If he gets away, and he still might, all the suffering he causes is upon us. Please save the lecture for later.

@Megan: Okay, I've thought about this for a while, and I'm finding conflicting rulings; can a druid in elemental form cast spells?

Liberty's Edge

@ Ebon Wings: I think not. Assuming elemental form is associated with your wild shape ability, and in that you are only capable of the communication that the creature whose form you assume can manage, hence no spell verbals. Elementals are not spell-casters, hence my conclusion.

Anyway, eveyone reaches the ground safely, and look round at a quite amazing site. Even Ashe, who has seen it on the odd social occasion that he's been here, still finds it quite exceptional!

This chamber hardly seems to be part of a palace — it seems more like a clearing at the heart of a vast jungle, teeming with life. The sky above is a deep, cloudless blue, while in the distance, hazy towers of distant structures rise above the verdant canopy. Exotic bird calls fill the air, the scent of dozens of unfamiliar flowers and plants assault the nose, and everywhere a riot of colour demands the eye, be it the wing of a tropical bird, the petals of a brightly hued flower, or the glittering multicolored tiles that make up a round fountain to the north, its central plume a stone pillar around which entwine two cobra statues that clutch green gems in their fanged maws. Opposite the fountain to the south stands an immense, life-sized jade statue of an elephant, a howdah perched on its back, its tusks and trunk raised high in greeting to the southeast doors — doors that, from inside the room, look more like gates set into a wrought iron fence that encircles the garden. Other gates set in this fence doubtless lead to other parts of the palace, and after a bit more observation the somewhat static nature of the jungle and landscape becomes apparent — the walls of this garden are in fact an incredibly realistic and clever painting of a Vudran junglescape.

Ashe, the 2 evils beings you discerned are perched in the howdah on the elephant's back. Looking up, though, they are invisible except to those who can see invisible creatures... but of course you know they are there!

Ashe nodded in silent acceptance... but he clearly saw the threat of the animated elephant. But Ashe was prepared for the event of needing to use the two-handed weapon and not use his regular shield. Reaching into his Belt Pouch - Handy Haversack... Ashe pulled a buckler onto his fist and instantly.. the subtle, shiny aura of his Vindicator's Shield returned.

Ashe approached the Raging elephant fighting defensively to stab at the clearly defined but invisible source of intense evil he detected in the Howdah on is marble back. Calling on his Goddess he smites the source of evil with holiness!

Ashe is in no rush.. the elephant did not move toward him... so Ashe will take the time to pull and don the buckler before moving to engage.

* Megan - Ashe may be hard to recognize with his Full Helm Visor down, and he does NOT radiate good as he is wearing around his neck the Plaguebringer's Mask to hide his alignment. It will be hard to tell he is a paladin until he hit with a Smite Evil.

Yeah, I'm fine with that :) .Most of the argument came down to the 'animal' wording and what RAI meant.

Can EW speak to his companions in Auran while in Air Elemental Form?

EW uses Deathwatch eyes, which lets him know if something is

Despite the wording, I don't think it lets him see invisible... but what is the Elephant, please?

On the other hand Nosoi has spirit sight, so I'd love to know what it sees.

Those who can see invisible (including Nosoi):
The two figures in the howdah are rakshasas. One seems to be directing the elephant, the other is spellcasting.

Graxer - you have a massive initiative advantage, do you wish to do anything whilst Ashe gets his enlarged self sorted and Varrel flies around the place?

Megan, Ashe can detect both targets and their specific location he is purposely aiming for the one int he front who would normally be directing the elephant.

Liberty's Edge

Firstly, I'd better roll some initiatives!

Elephant: 1d20 ⇒ 11

Rakshasa #1: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16

Rakshasa #2: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Round 1

Graxer is first to move, he drinks a potion and begins to enlarge...

Rakshasa #2 is next, he's casting a spell and so becomes visible, perched in the rear of the elephant's howdah. Muttering, he waves his hand as if throwing something at the giant armoured figure we all know and love as Ashe. An arrow of acid speeds forth towards him...

Ranged touch attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20, damage 2d5 ⇒ (5, 4) = 9, plus another 2d4 ⇒ (2, 3) = 5 next round unless neutralised.

Rakshasa #1 is concentrating on directing the elephant, which begins to step down from the platform. Its attention is also on Ashe, and it attempts to gore him with its tusks!

Elephant's attack: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (13) + 16 = 29, damage 2d8 + 10 ⇒ (3, 7) + 10 = 20

Varrel is flying in dizzying spirals around the room, and attacks the elephant. And yes, you get your critical!

Ashe eventually has his shield arrayed to his satisfaction and delivers a massive blow with his nodachi to Rakshasa #1.. who screeches as his head parts company with his shoulders and flies, still screaming, across the garden!

(Ebon Wings, you acting this round or just watching?)

OK, Round 2 actions and rolls, please.

Ashe grunts more from the blow from the elephant... {which hopefully now that the Rakshasa handler is no longer directing him ill stop attacking} than the acid arrow. He ignores the hits stepping to full attack the spellcasting Rakshasa.

Round 2:
Swift Action: {Lay On Hands-Self} 3d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 6) = 8
1# Attack w/Nodachi: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (16) + 13 = 29
1# Damage w/Nodachi: 2d8 + 8 ⇒ (6, 2) + 8 = 16

2# Attack w/Nodachi: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
2# Damage w/Nodachi: 2d8 + 8 ⇒ (5, 3) + 8 = 16

- Megan, remember Ashe has reach being enlarged. So if the Rakshasa begins casting again or he attempts moves more than 5'ft away from Ashe.. it provokes.

Ashe speaks, "'Vengeance', don't bother attacking the elephant.. we want it.. its a magical item of significant power! Kill the Rakshasa!"

Varrel laughs as Ashe makes this comment while the elephant bleeds and struggles to pull it's feet free of the ice, while STILL managing to gore the Paladin with it's tusks.

Alot of good it will do you when it kills you. Do you WANT to get trampled?

Varrel continues his assault, calling to Silf to dive bomb the Elephant
Aid another attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
The little dino misses but was flapping about his head.

Varrel charges the elephant (10ft away, provokes from the Elephant) and does an Airborne two handed slash with his Rime rostbite charged blade.

Round 2

Now enlarged, Graxer steps in to smack the remaining rakshasa, catching him a solid blow! He's quick to retaliate, chanting something as he gestures at Graxer... provoking Ashe's strike, which hits. A gout of blood spurts from his shoulder.

A compelling urge to go cool off in the fountain assails Graxer. Please make a Will save to resist this urge.

The elephant stops, looking confused at the flying creatures buzzing around it. It trumpets again loudly, as if asking for directions from its master.

Then Varrel smacks it again! It looks even more confused and more than a little dazed.

Ashe's hands glow for an instant as he lays them on himself. He then gathers up and swings the nodachi again, but misses.
