Uhhh... HUH? You two are not... as far as I can tell anywhere near this scene OR in the Commandant's office in the private conversation between Ashe, Varrel, Kayla and his uncle Endrin.

You did not chose to come along or follow. I'm sorry the conversation has drawn on a little but busting in on a scene you were not involved with and heckling it because you are not involved is kinda bad form.

Which, by the way, is WHY Ashe only directly asked Varrel to accompany him.

Female Halfling Sorceress / 1

I'll wait for a ruling on that before I glare at anyone.

What? We went shopping and rejoined the others. Shakhan knows where Endrin's is.

Um. Let's keep it civil. As I recollect:

Everyone was at the Citadel, in Field Marshal Kroft's office.

You all then went to the Acadamae to pick up scrolls & potions, and for Ashe to see to having his sword attended to and Varrel to find a new familiar.

Then you went your several ways. Ashe, Varrel and Kayla went to see Ashe's uncle at the Military Academy. Una and Gronk went straight on to the Orisini Academy to see Vencarlo Orisini, expecting Ashe et al. to join them later. Shakhan and Ichabod went for a beer. It was left a bit nebulous as to when/where/if everyone was going to meet up - perhaps later at the house Una and Varrel share (Zellara's old house), or the next morning at dawn down the docks ready to go diving on the wreck.

Now, Shakhan and Ichabod moved on after having slaked their thirsts, last thing I wrote was an enquiry about what they wanted to do next. They knew what everyone else was doing, so could have gone to the Military Academy... but as you recall, even Ashe had to ask an aide if he could visit with his uncle and wait to get in.

Better get me over to the game thread and untangle things...

Never fret, Varrel, you'll get to go swimming in a bit.

Just letting you know, I'm not sure how active I will be over the holiday weekend.

I usually check the boards several times a day. Even if I can't think of anything applicable to post, I do check.

But for the nex few days I may only be able to check once or twice a day.

Human Crossbow Weapon Master 4 / Sniper Rogue 2 / Hunter 2

I wasn't active over the holiday, at all. But did come back on Friday.

Speaking of suitable clothing, how was my ware-hawking, Megan?

Andoran

Remind me, Una, who were you trying to sell your finery to?

(Sorry, head a-whirl... 2 job interviews next week, talk to write for church tomorrow, daughter applying to college and going for her interview, high-speed fibre-optic cable broadband being installed the week after... it's all happening at once!)

Human Crossbow Weapon Master 4 / Sniper Rogue 2 / Hunter 2

Orisini, for Ms. Tabor's disguise.

Oh, and a potion of aboleth's lung allows water-breathing for 3 hours for 300 gp, as opposed to a potion of water breathing which allows water breathing for 10 hours for 750 gp.

{wry grin}
Sometimes I am such an idiot. I spent a while typing up the description of stomping up to the wharf and yelling at everyone to get moving, tired of waiting, you scared of a little water, etc...

I was just about to hit send when I finally remembered. Oh wait the obnoxious barbarian is in my home game. Gronk is the meek doom prophet.

I will think up something appropriate to post later.

At the moment, I'm around. So far no job has transpired after all the rushing around, but there's still a lot that I'm waiting to hear back from.

Heartily fed up. Want to get something sorted and get on with doing it.

Andoran

Male Human {Black American} Monk 1 / Paladin 2 / Bard 1

I'm sorry to hear your difficulties Megan.

I .. personally have been under-Employed for the last 9 years. No medical coverage, no regular dependable pay and unsure where I was going to get the money for my rent, power and light, gas for my car, car payment, car insurance ...even food. It has only been because of my parents being so supportive that have have managed to keep from being homeless and on the street.

I use to be a programmer for the State of Indiana as a government employee for 7 years making $16.45/hr. I was not rich but I felt comfortable affluent. That was... now 18 years ago. I was young 24 to 25 and indeed I made some mistakes with that job admittedly... but I was I felt conscientious in trying to honestly do the job responsibly and honestly. I was hired to maintain the Registration programs for the state Bureau of Motor vehicles {BMV}. Truthfully {in my opinion} I was only hired to handle the Year 2000 needed changes n the programs and when that was done... they really didn't have any more need for me and the other employees they hired at the same time. I lost that job when I being young and admittedly a little naive saw one of the Senior Anaylst looking at his personal e-mail on his lunch break and reasonably thought it was something we could do. So I started doing the same. I had for the first 3 years of my employment resisted having my cubicle computer having ANY access to the internet. I felt it was a potential distraction that I did not want a risk for misuse. BUT my superiors insisted that every computer in the office have readily available internet access. So I found it ironic that I was fired because of misuse of the internet reported by the IT office automation technicians - who I was quite friendly with. I requested that I be allowed to resign and the managers accepted that.

I found out later that to the person... everyone who was hired in the office in and around the time I was hired was one way of another fired or simply laid-off in the next three months after I was... allowed to 'resign'. The lead Office automation Analyst was fired not two weeks later for he was giving away the old computers that the office was no longer using and going to simply discard in the trash. He was fired for giving those machine to people who needed computers. I know Chung - the senior analyst and I'm pretty sure he reported my misuse and I'm also equally sure he had not expected me to be fired for it. I know he did not see what he was doing as anything wrong for it was his task to see to it all the old machine were completely wiped of any government information before they were discarded and he knew and did his job well. I found out later from a friend of mine unassociated with the BMV that my name appeared in the local newspaper in an article listing people who resigned from the BMV in the offices efforts to improve customer service... as if WE were responsible for the difficulties we were having in upgrading the BMV's 30 year out of date COBOL written, non-integrated data-systems for storing and accessing the vehicle records.

You see that same year a new governor was elected and Mitch Daniels, and so one-way or another everyone in our office was gotten rid of legitimately or not in favor of his people newly hired. It was all political. Even my coworker hired the same day I was Helen, she told me later as we kept contact after I resigned that one day she came to work and her computer was locked and she was not allowed to sign on. she had done nothing and they just fired her flatly... and not only that black-balled her from returning to government work with the state! There was no reason given no hearing scheduled to explain why she was simply told by the HR that she was no longer needed and was escorted from the building. Even though we had both worked for the state diligently for 7 years. Hellen was fired 4 months after I was allowed to resign. I only learned this facct some two years after the fact as I felt a little guilty for not calling Helen sooner and I learned all this. In fact the Senior programmer who I had {VERY RELUCTANTLY} reported seeing reading personal e-mails [in fact I had seen almost ALL the senior analysts doing the same but I did not reveal that for I saw it as a witch hunt as they all did good work diligent work and I wanted no part of pointing blame] which gave me the impetus that it was an ok practice to read personal e-mail on lunch break - Helen told me he was sited for the same but was not fired only suspended from work for three days.

Now - My point with all this...

I spent the next 9 years looking for work that would give me a similar pay and was completely unsuccessful. It was a big shock to a young man to go from making so much to minimum wage jobs $7.25/hr. I burned through all my savings and worked as a substitute teacher until the policy changed made it more and more difficult to get regular work daily. I've worked briefly as a computer manufacturer {really more warehouse work - with GRUELING hours for VERY low pay...certainly not enough}, I've worked as maintenance manager for McDonalds {again for more reasonable hours but just not enough pay.. as they refused to pay me the proper wage for the job I did.. should have been about $9.25/hr but the managers insisted in only paying minimum wage - EVEN when they had told me when I accepted the job there would be a significant raise in pay commensurate with the increased responsibilities of the job}. Finally even a job at Kroger's shuffling produce again.. for minimum wage with low hours!

It was not that I did not want to work - I had worked a regular 8AM to 4:30 PM job for 7 years with the state... it was just work was not available! This lasted for 9 years!

It was quite a blow to my self image to suddenly after taking care of myself for so long to no longer to be able to keep a roof over my head or food on my table! I was deeply depressed.

So I know what your going through and the deep amount of frustration you must be feeling over the situation.

I encourage you to do not give up hope. Keep trying, keep praying for support from god, he knows you need a means of taking care of yourself and your family... he will not let you fall. As long as you live by his principles and in line with his purpose.

I have just this week been blessed with a new job that is a schedule I can maintain weekdays for $9.25/hr and regular hours. I'm finally gainfully employed after all this time. I have been praying for such for years and have been answered.

I know to some that are of less religious persuasion it may not seem like much. But to those of faith remember, MATTHEW 6:25 to 34...

"On this account I say to you; stop being anxious about your souls as to what you will eat or what you will drink, or about your bodies as to what you will wear. Does not the soul mean more than food and the body more than clothing? Observe intently the birds of heaven, because they do not sow seed or reap or gather into storehouses; still your heavenly father feeds them. Are you not worth more than they are? Who of you by being anxious can add one cubit to his life span? Also, on the matter of clothing, why are you anxious? Take lesson from the lilies of the field, how they are growing; they do not toil, nor do they spin; but I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory was arrayed as one of these. If, now God thus clothes the vegetation of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much rather cloth you, you with little faith? So never be anxious and say, 'What are we to eat?' or, 'What are we to drink?' or, 'What are we to put on?' For all these things the nations are eagerly pursuing. For your heavenly father knows you need all these things.
Keep on seeking first the kingdom and his righteousness, and all these [other] things will be added to you. So, never be anxious about the next day, for the next day will have its own anxieties. Sufficient for each day is its own badness."

Do not give up hope. :)

Honestly Megs, Ashe you guys remind me how much harder some people have it.
I am turning 31 on Jan 6. Have 3 beautiful kids (11 year old girl,6 year old boy/2 year old girl) and my biggest worry is paying the bills, but luckily I work in Mineral processing (started in gold but nickel now) and the pay is good. Similarly my wife is a clinical nurse and makes almost as much as I do.

At the very least your persistence reminds me how very blessed we are. I have suffered in other ways (was operational in everyone of my 9 years in the military) and almost ruined my marriage a couple of times. All I can offer is that persistence and initiative do eventually pay off. Stay strong and you'all make something happen.

Female Halfling Sorceress / 1

My husband wasn't able to find a job, so he went and joined the army. He's still in training right now since he's learning a new language, so at least I don't have to worry about him going anywhere else for at least another year.

Human Crossbow Weapon Master 4 / Sniper Rogue 2 / Hunter 2

I've been in the same boring part-time job for the past 13 years. Retail can be a nightmare, but at least it's relatively secure. Half the time, all we're doing is cleaning up after our customers, which people sometimes ask me if I ever get tired of. As long as customers are making a mess of things, I'd say that's pretty good job security. :P

Oddly enough in the UK it is regarded as the 'kiss of death' for a programmer to have a spell in the DVLC (Driver & Vehicle Licencing Centre) on their resume! Fortunately I've never worked there.

I'm a senior computer professional ('Chartered Fellow of the British Computer Society' which is roughly equivalent to US Professional Engineer status), with about 10 years teaching experience on top of some 12 years commercial experience and a speciality in e-learning. Unfortunately I cannot physically do many of the low-paid low-skilled jobs due to disability (self-mobile but slow, poor balance and carrying capacity, and unable to write longhand although I can still touch-type!), and in my own field am quite expensive... I'm getting interviews at least, but there are too many other good people also seeking work.

I do indeed trust in my Heavenly Father, Ashe. He will provide. Every application, never mind interview, is placed in His hands: when the one that He wills comes along I'll get it :)

Half-Orc Cleric 6 of Groteus AC 21/ f f20/ t11, HP 38/38, F8/R4/W11

I am NOT a computer professional, so take this advice with a grain of salt.

But I have been told that 'serious' computer organizations don't want people that have worked for the government. They claim it stifles creativity and responsibility. Government programmers are not focused on the goal, just putting in their time and covering their ash. Not saying it is true, but that is the opinion that at least some of them have.
My computer illuminati friends say a person is better to leave that off their resume and claim no programming experience rather than admit to working for the government. Then you would at least have a chance of getting an entry level position.

Check carefully before you follow this advice. But it might be worth checking with others you know in the field or some of the anonymous online chats.

Sorry guys. I know this is a stuff around but I have (again) let gaming encroach on real life and it's causing a lot of problems.

So that's it from me. Been a pleasure.

Sorry to see Varrel go. The other, other, other man in my life. :P

Andoran

I shall DMNPC him until the end of the diving trip, and he will then take his leave to do... well, hopefully I shall have thought of something by then! Leaving the door open for a return if he should so wish, of course.

Has this campaign died or is it just the holidays interfering with time?

Human Crossbow Weapon Master 4 / Sniper Rogue 2 / Hunter 2

I think its the holidays. And Megan I think is back to job searching. This game has never died except when the last DM left unexpectedly. In any event, if there is a 2-week hiatus, it's probably acceptable. I'll be at home over the holidays so I'll check the boards frequently.
