I've been noticing that some of the rituals of the church are a wee bit...odd. Old blood that runs...a linen with the face of Jesus...a tad on the dark side, eh? Maybe it's just my not being entirely the most faithful of sorts....

I am curious, Father Dominico.... Did the blood of Santa Januarius run freely this year on his holy day? Or no?


It is most baffling, noble sir.... Though clearly we suffer as we have not suffered since the Black Death overtook our humble port, yet the sacred blood bubbled and ran as if to proclaim blessings to come.... It gives our poor beleaguered faithful of Napoli some hope to cling to in these darkest of times, to be sure.... But I cannot for the life of me see what good we have to look forward to....


It may be that the blood runs to foretell the liberation of Europe from the dragon at our hands.... For that is our quest, holy man. I follow older gods than yours, but we who follow the old ways are united with Christendom in the goal of throwing off the foul wyrm's wicked yoke....

Pater Dominico explains to the Lusty Fools that he serves the folk of Naples under His Grace, the Archbishop of Naples, and offers six potions of resistance to fire (20) to the heroes to help them on their quest, as well as a magical blade, Wyrm's Doom, a +2 frost dragon bane longsword once wielded by the English knight, Saint George the Dragon Slayer....

I know I said no more op treasures, but it makes sense that someone would arm your party with a dragon bane weapon at some point before you try taking on the dragon.

That's More a +3 weapon which on the grand scale of things is not OP especially since no one person is actively made to use it. Nacht has 4 of them mind you. It won't also help all that much against the dragon anyway... because Dragon. There wont be any Cloaks likely Hisao, i would say just trying to get out alive would be an accomplishment.

Suddenly, a roar can be heard outside the cathedral, a primitive, reptilian shriek of hatred and avarice, hunger and malice, splitting the sky!

It is echoed by the faint screams of terror that come from within nearby buildings and on the streets and quays of Naples!

The swelling moan of unnatural winds howls through the city to drown out the cries of terror....

Nacht had kept himself relatively docile, even for a creature such as it. The constant sounds the surface-beings made droned annoyingly, but the underlying fear enticed him. This dragon, could this dragon be what kept these people in such a state? If he were to kill this dragon would they fall under his fear?

The roar of something unknown to him shook the abomination from its thoughts as it prepared for combat.

Paddy soars invisibly through the nave of the church and out the main portal into the evening air....

He beholds the Beast in all its hateful splendor and fearsomeness, wings outstretched as it seems to hang and slowly glide in the coppery dusk sky.... A nightmare out of Revelations.... The Beast of the Apocalypse tearing apart the mournful sky....

A plume of red flame bursts from its howling maw, evaporating the clouds....

The Beast of the Fiery Pit come to raven and slaughter....

As Hisao also glides like a ghost, unseen and unheard, out of the Cathedral, he looks up to see the great red apocalypse in the sky....

It is perhaps 150 ft above the city, close enough to hammer the seaside port with palpable terror by its very presence, but not close enough for its fiery belches to have burnt anything in Naples....

Is there a back way out of the cathedral? Are the windows appropriately large and ornate or have they been damaged in some way?


Everybody should be making that save at only 150 feet out (it has a 360 foot range). Everyone near me gets a +4.

In spite of the wreckage and ruin surrounding it, the Cathedral seems so have withstood the dragon's fury..:. Her ornate stained glass windows remain intact, if soot-blackened in some places....

Im ruling that the hallowed walls and ceiling of the intact cathedral block the frightful presence effect, but not the many damaged structures nearby, hence commoners huddled in their hole-riddled houses are feeling the dread....

if that's the case Fredrick will move to a window and fire an extended range pushing bolt at the Dragon when it comes in to range.

Unaware of what capabilities it could have he took his usual approach blending into the ether and drawing his wickedly sharp blades as he moved forward stealthily. Not yet taken flight.
