GM Mazra |
When Leira opens the door, she sees an extensive wooden bridge that stretches across a wide, high chamber and overlooks an exotic garden far below. The air is hot and humid, and a powerful stench of overripe vegetation wafts throughout the massive, domed chamber. The ceiling overhead is a complex series of star-patterned glass that magnifies the rays of the sun directly above. At the far end of the bridge, interwoven branches form a doorway.
The bridge is also made of ironwood, 15 feet wide without railings, and runs the length of the greenhouse. The bridge is about 80 feet above greenhouse floor. It is about 80 feet up to the glass domed ceiling. It is really hot in the greenhouse.
I will update the map later.
Leira |

Leira makes a sign to the rest of the group telling them it is secure and carefully advances through the bridge. Once at the other side she checks the new door.

If clean, again, she carefully opens the door.
Today's Villain |
Map updated. I have setup the party on the bridge.
Coming from under the bridge, two tiny creatures attack the party while you are crossing. One in the front and one in the back. They each wield daggers, and they are invisible.
Tiny creature 1 Flyby attack vs Leira: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 9 + 2 = 181d3 + 1 + 3d6 ⇒ (2) + 1 + (3, 4, 2) = 12
Tiny creature 2 Flyby attack vs Haskyll: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 9 + 2 = 171d3 + 1 + 3d6 ⇒ (1) + 1 + (2, 6, 2) = 12
Both Haskyll and Leira are flat-footed and were struck by these creatures with the flyby attack feat. Their daggers were dipped with a poison. Both Haskyll and Leira must make a DC17 Fort Save. The initial effect is the loss of 1 point of strength.
The creatures are invisible in the total light of the greenhouse. They are also very stealthy. No one had a high enough perception check to have been able to detect them before their attacks. Even then these creatures remain invisible in the total light of the greenhouse. However, their translucent flapping wings can be noticed allowing you to attack with just a 20% miss chance.

Please review your status for accuracy. Thanks. This will be a challenge. Flyby attack rules are a bit ambiguous. I treat them that the monster can attack as a part of its move action, but cannot take another action. I think you should be able to get an attack of opportunity, so Leira and Haskyll gets an AoO (20% miss chance).
Edit: Nevermind. You were still flat-footed.

@Anga - This maybe the only downside to the Magic/Force missiles. If you can see the target, you automatically hit. If you can't, you automatically miss. Now if your spell requires a Range Touch attack, and if you get past the 20% concealment miss chance, then you have a chance to hit it. Area effect spells are always good in this situation. Does anyone else see this differently?

Surprise and Round Two
As the party passes through the ironwood flower, and crosses the ironwood bridge, you are assaulted by invisible dagger wielding creatures. They do not become visible, even after they attack. One cuts into Leira at the front of the party. The other slices Haskyll at the back of the party.
Ingrahild, hears the flapping of wings, she puts up her Dwarven Waraxe and draws her bow.
Before the rest of the party can react, the invisible creatures spin around and fly back attacking the Rogue Arcanist and the Dwarf Cleric again.
Kaos thinks about the creatures attacking the party, but does not recollect anything. (You needed ranks in Knowledge Nature.) The big human brings up a Shield as he moves to guard the badly injured Leira.
Ragnir stands ready to strike one of the tiny creatures should one flies near.
Anga pulls out a scroll and adds a magic Shield to her defences.
Leira tries to fire back at the assailant, but the pain of her injuries was too severe to target the tiny creature. She tries to move to the middle of the party. Leira also loses one point of strength and must try to save again in Round Two.
Ulfgard also prepares to strike should one of these creatures fly near.
Haskyll moves to the center of the party. He ask and receives powerful healing. His Dwarf blood resists the poison from the creature's dagger.

The two creatures appear to be calling out to one another.

Strength drains from Leira as a poison courses through her body. But the determined Rogue Arcanist wills her way through the weakness and hits the southernmost tiny creature with an arrow.

Ingrahild launches an arrow at the northernmost tiny creature. The arrow strikes, but the Dwarf Ranger is uncertain that it harmed the small winged threat, "What ina dev'l are these things."
The northernmost tiny creature makes an invisible flyby attack against Ulfgard, cutting into the Dwarf Ranger Barbarian.
The southernmost one does the same thing to Kaos, just missing a critical artery on the big human.
Kaos completely missed the tiny creature as it approached, and barely missed as it departed.
Ragnir readies for an attack. He also provides additional protection for Leira.
Anga stands ready to strike should one come near.
With strength failing her, Leira musters enough energy to strike solidly the southernmost flying threat.
Ulfgard swings wildly with Agrimmosh. His attack was not even close to striking the tiny creature.
Haskyll again touches Leira. But this time healing energies fully heals her wounds.
