You are in Absalom, the mighty City at the Center of the World, and you've always longed to explore one of the countless ruins of failed conquerors that litter the plains outside the city's walls.

You've heard rumors that one of the sealed siege castles has been laid open by a minor earthquake. Word on the street is that no one has yet entered the tower, which folks are calling the "Fallen Fortress." What better way to start a life of excitement and adventure than by exploring its long-abandoned, dusty halls and perhaps claiming its ancient treasures?

The Gist
This adventure assumes that all of the player characters know each other and have decided to explore the Fallen Fortress together to start their careers as adventurers.

Character Creation
I'm looking for up to five 1st level characters with two traits (plus, if you desire, one drawback for a third trait). We'll be operating at medium XP advancement.

Please stick to classes from the Core, APG, and ACG. Races can be core, featured, and uncommon, keeping in mind how NPCs may react to your appearance.

Stats are six 4d6, dropping the lowest on each roll. If no dice roll higher than 2 on any given roll, roll again. These numbers can be put into whichever stat you desire. If your rolls make you really, really sad, you can instead do a 20-pt buy.

I like backgrounds, but I'm not expecting a million pages or anything - three to five paragraphs? I think that's fair. If you get stuck, consider why you're trying to start a career in adventuring and how you've come to be in Absalom.

Expectations:

I've GMed in the past and am currently running a seated homebrew campaign. I've only run a bit of an AP in the past (we, in our infinite wisdom, picked the last two weeks before finals in our fourth year of undergrad, so the timing was, uh, not good). I've never tried pbp on Paizo before, so I'll probably be making a lot of silly mistakes with the forum (and also because I'm silly), so please do be patient with me and private message me to let me know what I've gone and fizzed up.

I really, really, really like reading, writing, and good story/roleplay. I would like to be able to envision your characters - please, let them come to life in my game - it'll liven the experience for everyone (I hope). A good, strong background/history will call to me like... I dunno, candy to a small, hyper child?

Have fun! We're all here to play a game, get in some good laughs, some RP, and have some fun! If you're not having fun, please let me know so we can discuss what could help to change that. If nothing works, then it's okay for you to go - don't stay if it's not fun for you.

Please post at least once a day. Don't feel pressured to give me trash posts, but a quick post that's telling me what's going on with your character - are they considering what just happened but choosing to stay silent? What are they thinking? - is always, always welcome! You're not playing with a group, so I consider it a courtesty to be considerate of the others who are awaiting your actions. In combat, I will delay your character. It's what I do at my seated table and keeps us from holding up the table.

I will be prepared to post at least twice a day. If there's nothing for the GM to add/include to the thread, you may not see anything, but I'm pretty much on the website all day, crossing my fingers for posts in other games, so you can bet I'll be doing the same with this one, especially with combat.

You will each have my email address. If you cannot post within 24 hours for any reason, please let me know. I will do my best to bot you/arrange for someone else to bot you (if you designate) until you're back to normal.

Update your tagline. Information - your current health/max health, active conditions, perception, saves - means that I can do the rolls, resolve the effects, and keep the game moving forward in a single post rather than just kind of weeping at the game for wasting a whole round of posts from my beloved players. I'll try to keep track of all players via HeroLab, but I'm still essentially a HL newbie, so anything that makes information like that more readily available will make me smile. I'll have specifics in discussion once I've selected players.

Several types of PC rolls will be made by me just to keep things moving, such as initiative, perception, or saving throws. Player dice rolls of these types will be ignored, unless specifically requested by me. This is to keep things from getting bogged down.

Combat is really hard, so please simplify it. I love roleplay - please, please type me up some of your character's thoughts, actions - and with flourish! But when I'm trying to get down to the number crunching bits and pleases, I'm going to ask you to just tell me your actions in ooc at the end of your post. Move action, standard action, etc. Also, move your avatar on the map as necessary! It's not that I don't trust you guys - I don't trust myself just yet, since I'm mostly self-taught and... Well. Rules can get confusing for me. Knowing what you're doing in which phase makes it a lot easier for me to understand what you're trying to do.

Let's stick to a standard format, shall we? I'm talking bold for dialogue, italics for in-character thoughts/telepathy, etc., and ooc for out of character questions or other discussion. We're also going to stick to third person and present tense for the present and past tense for... the past.

Are you allowing the unchained monk, or are you using core monk?

How many rolls can we do? Just the one, a couple of attempts?

@Havocprince: Core monk, please! I haven't examined the unchained book yet. c:

@DBH: Six 4d6, so one for each ability stat. You should be rolling six times in total unless you have a roll in which no dice comes up as higher than 2. In that case, reroll that, because that's just mean. Does that answer that? o:

Hmm, I was thinking of building a brother of the seal, not sure if I would want to run that core. I'll think for a bit and see if any other ideas comes to mind.

I'll chime in and roll a set of stats - I love rolling stats. :)

Stat the first: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 2, 1) = 10 9
Stat the second: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 6, 4) = 14 13
Stat the third: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 2, 6) = 15 13
Stat the fourth: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 5, 3) = 19 16
Stat the fifth: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 2, 4) = 10 9
Stat the sixth: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 6, 1) = 16 15

Not crazy powerful, but workable...I'll think over some concepts and chime back in a little later with what I come up with. I am in a couple of other recruitments right now, so I might end up bowing out depending on how those go, but this game sounds like a good time!

I need something to take my mind off of a dead line.. So I'll bite.

Stats: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 6, 3) = 18:15
Stats: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 2, 4) = 15:13
Stats: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 6, 4) = 15:14
Stats: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 1, 5) = 13:12
Stats: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 2, 2) = 15:13
Stats: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 2, 2) = 12:10

Somewhat well balanced. I'll look at my options and get something back soon.

@Havocprince: Certainly! Take your time. ^o^

@Rennaivx: I was dubious at first, but I saw that people seemed to be having so much fun rolling them in other threads that it didn't seem fair to not let 'em have the chance.

@GM Amsheagar: Deadlines are the absolute worst. I look forward to seeing what you come up with! :D

Well, it's for a Kickstarter So I'm making sure it gets done before anything else.

...

On a side note... would you allow the standard races as well? I'm thinking about making a Skinwalker front line fighter. (Fighter, Barbarian, Brawler or Blodrager)

I'm going to have to say no to the skinwalker for the same reason I said no to the unchained material. I'll essentially a fledgling GM and I'm not confident I could keep track of the extra peculiarities just yet. Thank you for asking! ^u^

That kickstarter looks potentially interesting! Good luck! C:

Stats1: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 2, 3) = 14 12
Stats2: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 6, 2) = 12 11
Stats3: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 5, 6) = 18 16
Stats4: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 1, 4) = 12 11
Stats5: 4d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 4, 2) = 10 8
Stats6: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 6, 5) = 14 13

Workable. I'll see what I can do with the 20pt buy.

Color me interested :)

Roll 1: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 5, 2) = 18 --> 16
Roll 2: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 6, 3) = 17 --> 14
Roll 3: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 6, 5) = 20 --> 17
Roll 4: 4d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 5, 6) = 18 --> 16
Roll 5: 4d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 4, 5) = 14 --> 12
Roll 6: 4d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 1, 1) = 7 --> 6

Goodness! Possibly the best rolls I've ever done :)
The 6 at the end was almost a relief ....

Some serious thought will need to be applied now.

Not gonna lie, exploring ruins is my wet dream. Rolling for stats? Chocolate fudge topping with a huge shiny cherry
Let's see what RNGeesus thinks.

Stats: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (1, 5, 4, 3) - 1 = 12
Stats: 4d6 - 2 ⇒ (4, 2, 6, 3) - 2 = 13
Stats: 4d6 - 3 ⇒ (4, 6, 4, 3) - 3 = 14
Stats: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (1, 5, 6, 4) - 1 = 15
Stats: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (1, 4, 6, 4) - 1 = 14
Stats: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (1, 3, 4, 4) - 1 = 11

That makes for a neatly balanced, if a bit all over the place, array. I'm thinking a rangrr would benefit for midhigh stats, and I have something of a concept forming in my mind.

Oh, magnanimous DM, do you have any suggestions for Favored Enemy and Terrain? I wouldn't mind not using it all the time, but I'd rather not choose Dragons for example if they won't appear at all.

After some thought, I've decided I'm going to go ahead and send Kitch Myriad to begin her exploration career. Currently a peddler of alchemical supplies in the Precipice District, she's headed to the Fallen Fortress for her family's sake - their warren in Absalom's sewers is growing tight on space even by ratfolk standards, and she's hoping that once the tower is clear it could serve as a new home for them. Any proceeds from the exploration process wouldn't go amiss, either; explorers are, after all, the ones who are able to afford her wares. ;)

Kitch will be an alchemist of some stripe, but I'm waffling on whether I want to take the grenadier archetype or just go vanilla. Her profile is still very in-progress, but I wanted to link the profile so you could keep an eye out as she takes shape.

Ah, shoot, just outside the edit limit. When equipping my alchemist, is it ok if I spend money on her alchemical items as if she's crafted them, since she'll have a sizeable Craft (alchemy) check? Or would you rather I pay full price for them? Being able to pay the crafted price is going to let me equip her for her job a lot better, but I understand if you'd rather not mess with it.

What about starting wealth? Roll for it, maximum, or average?

I have a Cleric of Cayden Cailean rolled up with the 20pt buy, just need to work out his starting gear.

I am currently deciding in between a Barbarian/Druid build or a Barbarian/Oracle build. The basic thing I want this character to do, is rage out in beast form... Having an animal companion is what's holding up the decision.

Roll: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (1, 5, 3, 1) - 1 = 9
Roll: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (1, 5, 2, 6) - 1 = 13
Roll: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (4, 4, 4, 1) - 1 = 12
Roll: 4d6 - 2 ⇒ (3, 2, 5, 4) - 2 = 12
Roll: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (1, 4, 3, 4) - 1 = 11
Roll: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (3, 1, 1, 2) - 1 = 6

I'm interested. I've been thinking about a CN tiefling cleric of Calistria, trickery domain. My PC will be loyal to his companions; otherwise, he's in it for power and chaos. Companions should be ready for some surprises, all in good fun!

@EmissaryoftheNorth: No dragons, I promise. I can't give away the secrets of the game, but... My hint to you is 'TROGdooooooor!' Does that help? c: You can private message me if that puzzles you. ^o^

@Rennaivx: Looks very nice so far! Please make sure you throw your background in there somewhere, maybe in a spoiler so it doesn't get lost here. c: I will 100% allow her to be an alchemist on her way over. Just don't overload yourself!

@DBH: Thanks for that - I just realized I hadn't noted anything. As far as gold, I'm gonna say... Roll for gold, taking the starting average for your class if you roll lower because the dice gods hate you.

@GM Amsheagar: You know, I've only sat at a table with a barbarian of any sort the one time - it was one of the funniest adventures I've ever had, so I think it'll be plenty fun no matter which way you go. c:

@Iadrius: Those rolls made me wince a little. I think that's... less than even a 5-pt buy, so don't forget you have the option for a 20-pt buy if those rolls make you super sad. (This is by no means a requirement - you could always just be playing someone sickly character who got screwed over in their youth or whatnot.)

I thought that, too. I probably will go with the point buy, but I gave some serious thought to playing with the handicap.

Hahaaaa, no matter what you come up with, I'll be looking forward to it. ^o^

Roll:: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (2, 5, 6, 2) - 1 = 14
Roll:: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (6, 3, 2, 5) - 1 = 15
Roll:: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (6, 3, 1, 3) - 1 = 12
Roll:: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (6, 5, 4, 2) - 1 = 16
Roll:: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (5, 5, 4, 3) - 1 = 16
Roll:: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (1, 5, 4, 5) - 1 = 14

This is my first foray into Pbp. I am considering a half-orc fighter with a big two-handed weapon. I will create the rest of his story tonight. Will this interest you?

Interested! I'm new to PbP. I have a Half Elf Druid that I would love to use. I just need to finish building her. How long is the recruitment open?

4d6 - 3 ⇒ (5, 6, 5, 3) - 3 = 16
4d6 - 1 ⇒ (3, 1, 6, 2) - 1 = 11
4d6 - 2 ⇒ (2, 2, 6, 4) - 2 = 12
4d6 - 3 ⇒ (6, 5, 3, 6) - 3 = 17
4d6 - 1 ⇒ (3, 1, 6, 1) - 1 = 10
4d6 - 2 ⇒ (6, 2, 6, 3) - 2 = 15

EDIT

For Gold: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 1) = 5...I'll be defaulting to average. Thank you dice gods!

Sorry for the delayed response! I was trying to post from my phone, but then I hit a dead zone and by the time I was able to try and do it again, my phone browser ate my post. That said...

Chombo, FreakyFlyingElf21, welcome to pbp!

@Chombo: I think any group could use a good front-liner. It looks like you also got some solid rolls in, so as long as you've got enough backstory to launch into the module with, we'll be good to go. c:

@FreakyFlyingElf21: Great question! I'm glad you brought this up since I completely forgot to address it. Recruiting closes on June 3rd. I'm not running anything big enough to warrant any longer and I don't wanna rush applicants through their character creation, either. c:

Once you've sorted out your sheets, it might be worth trying to see how your character might know the others. This particular module starts with the assumption that all the characters know each other and are working together to be adventurers, so if you're all sorted out, it might help speed things up. :)

4d6 - 1 ⇒ (2, 6, 1, 5) - 1 = 13
4d6 - 1 ⇒ (2, 5, 1, 3) - 1 = 10
4d6 - 1 ⇒ (5, 1, 3, 4) - 1 = 12
4d6 - 2 ⇒ (2, 4, 5, 5) - 2 = 14
4d6 - 1 ⇒ (1, 1, 5, 6) - 1 = 12
4d6 - 4 ⇒ (4, 6, 5, 4) - 4 = 15

And with this 19 point buy, I guess I'll go for 20pb :)

I look forward to seeing what you come up with. c:

I set up my backstory in my profile. Can you see it, hiyami?

Let me know if I am missing anything.

Starting gold: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 6, 2) = 16 So I get a littel over the average, the Dice gods love to mock me. :)

I've decided to take the 20 points. Druid Barbarian.

gold: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 5) = 7x10... 70

Companions HP at level 1... Full HD or Rolled?

HP: 2d8 ⇒ (8, 7) = 15 or 16

dot

4d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 1, 1) = 10
4d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 1, 2) = 7
4d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 6, 6) = 20
4d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 5, 5) = 15
4d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 3, 1) = 9
4d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 2, 4) = 12

@Chombo: I can see it!

@DBH: If it makes you feel better, I got excited on a nat 20 and then proceeded to roll only 1, 2, and 3 for the next five rolls. :c

@GM Amsheagar: Full for level 1. :)

So just to confirm, I can use Craft (alchemy) to discount alchemical items in my initial inventory? I'll only do it for items I can take 10 on, just to make it a little fairer.

Here is Ukrun, the Druid who will go wild soon enough.

Profile

The program that i used messed up on some of the skills, putting a -3 in there as a misc modifier for some reason.. and knocking my speed down to 20....

@Rennaivx: Yes, and thank you. c:

@GM Amsheagar: Very nice! Thank you!
Edit: I'm investigating that -3, but it looks like the speed drop to 20 ft is because the armor is heavy enough to slow you down - characters with a base move speed of 30 are reduced to a speed of 20 with the hide equipped. Also, don't forget your spells!
Edit2: I'm silly - that -3 looks to be your armor check penalty. :)

I think when I was investigating it myself... I was looking at the leather instead of hide... oops.

Ahaha, at least the mystery has been solved! c: Are you planning to switch to leather or sticking to the hide?

Will stick with Hide until I get something better.

Gotcha! Just a few more days afore I go through sheets/profiles hardcore, but I'm really, really looking forward to seeing what comes up c: I know it's just the small module, but I'm pretty excited to try GMing here! ^o^

Going to have to withdraw sadly. Time is lacking for me at the moment. Best of luck with your game.

Awwww, that's a shame. Best of luck and thanks for the interest. c:

Let's see how this shakes out:
4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 1, 2) = 15=14
4d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 1, 6) = 15=14
4d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 4, 3) = 17=14
4d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 4, 1) = 12=11
4d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 6, 1) = 12=11
4d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 4, 5) = 20=16

That will play. Might have a character tomorrow.

How long is the module? Is leveling up expected?

@The Wanderer123: Cool, I look forward to seeing them! :D

@The Pale King: I am... not actually sure how to describe the module length? I don't think it's very long - there's a little over two handfuls of scrambling.

Leveling up would happen only on the fast XP advancement and you'd be about 2/3rds of the way there on medium XP advancement.

I'll have to withdraw my ratfolk alchemist from consideration - one of my other recruitments ended with my character accepted, and I've only got so much time and energy to post. Good luck with the game!

A shame! Thanks for your consideration. c:

Hmmm, only two actual sheets in thus far. I may extend recruitment in order to have enough people to actually fill out the group. Sorry for any inconvenience this might cause. >^<

This is FreakyFlyingElfs submission so far! I still need to write the backstory, but I wanted to make sure I had something in for you. I wasn't able to get onto Paizo for most of today. I will try to get my background done as soon as possible. I am still very interested in playing!

I'd like to express interest. I just joined the boards, so I'm new to Pbp. This fellow's background is written up but I've not yet done any crunch. I could have it done in the next 24 hours or so. I'm looking at making him an inquisitor but a cleric could fit the concept too if that's more useful.

stats: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 2, 4) = 8 7
stats: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 6, 6) = 17 11
stats: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 1, 3) = 10 9
stats: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 5, 5) = 15 13
stats: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 1, 4) = 16 15
stats: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 3, 1) = 8 7

Definitely looks I'd go with a 20 pt buy!

I am still looking to make a character, just having a bit of analysis paralysis over making a character that I know won't make it past level 1 and making sure they will still be fun to play!
