Male Human Gadgeteer

Hurtling through the air in a navy blue and white costume Jeb could see Mothman be shoved away by Ape-Man, he quickly lines up his Pulse Energy Pistol at Ape man and lets a bright azure beam shoot out towards the mercenary

Shooting Pepe at Apeman: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14

He pulled the trigger too soon, he cursed himself he pulled up his arc of flight making sure to stay well out of reach of Ape Man he still affected a cocky grin and tone "Next one's going somewhere a lot less fun! I'd like to have a word with your tailor."

male Human Eccentric Millionaire

"Hey monkey breath I think it's time for you to put down the gun and surrender. I doubt you can flee with all of us costumed types about, and with your back up incapacitated, your boss fled, seems to me that your best choice is to cooperate. If not I am pretty sure my friend with the fancy gun and the Moth man would gladly take you out. Heck, the Moth might even steal your soul, I heard they do that. But it's your choice, you can face us or surrender."Xavier said with a leer while standing tall and looking at the man unflinching.

Seeing that trying to tear the man ape from the building didn't work, Mothman decides to allow the villain to do some of the work for him. He flies to the top of the building that the thug is climbing, and waits for him.

Holding action to try to grapple again once the man ape is on top of the building.

Nite Owl can't seem to catch a break.

Ape-Man sees Mothman waiting for him, and the blaster bolt pinging into the side of the building, and decides to get some cover. Instead of continuing up the building, he leaps through a window into the building.

I think that is good enough for our initial encounter. Ape-Man and Whiteskull get away, and by the time you make it back to Oracle the other Ani-men have recovered and escaped. This requires GM Fiat, so everyone gets a Hero Point (The Villains get Away). I'll also fiat Dottie waking up with a bit of a headache. Hopefully this will at least lead to some talking.

Unconsciousness lasts a minute (10 rounds) IIRC, so it makes sense if Batman carries her back to Oracle, she wakes up there anyway. Nite Owl, Oracle's your digs, so where would we be taken to?

Male Human Gadgeteer

I can't believe they let him get away, but the confines of the building let him shake them. By the time they got back to Oracle the rest of them had slunk back into the woodwork. Maybe he should have stuck around to make sure bird man didn't get away but no there was no point agonizing over it just yet. He saw the man he helped earlier being checked out by someone with a first aid kit.

He looked around at the others "Apologies on not being able to help earlier, I knew I'd have to come dressed for the occasion." The cocky grin on his face displayed a confidence he wasn't quite feeling, the design was old but definitely based on one of his. "So do you all normally socialize together or was it just bad luck that got us all here to give them a headache."

Dottie smiles, ignoring the pounding of her aching head. "I smelled trouble and I found more than my share." She looks around, eyeing the strangely dressed individuals around her. She wonders why she was brought back to the site, though is more privately amazed someone bothered to recover her at all.

"No luck... this announcement clearly got a lot of people's attention. Including the terrorists. And what a show they put on! All for the audience, media, and Oracle bigwigs to see. And what for? I mean, they targeted the engineer, but a proper kidnapping would be in far more private settings. You don't bring two RPGs and a truck full of grenades screaming through a lobby window covered by a billion cameras to a kidnapping. They wanted to be known and they wanted someone to be scared of them. So who was it beside the engineer were they threatening? The company? The CEO? The city itself? And when's the next performance?"

She pauses. "Oh. And who is funding them? Armored cars and fancy guns are one thing. Vibra- no, adamantium weapons are another."

DM, does Dottie still have the claw glove? I honestly presume that someone confiscated it, like the authorities, while she was passed out, but I figure I'd ask.

Batman - Felix Marshal | Bruises/Wounds: 0/0; Hero Points 2/2; Conditions: None

As he comes back to the building with the other heroes and the engineer, he looks in the crowd and there's a quick acknowledgement that he's okay. "And the animal-themed combat gear. Those don't come cheap. They've either got technical support or contacts with the black market."

Male Human Gadgeteer

"Custom gear definitely on several items, not just modified. I recognized one of the components bird man had. I know for a fact it's not available from it's original designer and it wasn't shared so how they got their hands on it is very curious indeed." He was glad at least he wasn't in this alone, no way he could have tackled them by himself and following up on them wouldn't be easy either.

male Human Eccentric Millionaire

In a section he had closed off with his pass code he ushers the heroes in there. Once in there he looks at those gathered and observes. He listens as he rewinds the scenario of what exactly went down. Who and what seemed to want to be seen and why.

He pulled forth a pen and a note pad and began to write down a few things as they talked. He wasn't quite sure who exactly was where and what role they played in his company.

" The observances are solid, but I seem to feel that something is missing." Xavier said as he began to write a few things down.

"We should have stayed with one of the villains to maybe get them to talk, but seems we had no direction and tried to, unfortunately, work against each other."He said as he begins to look over the other heroes gathered.

Batman stands at this. "There were two down, and one of them was the guy they were after. If we gave chase and they got him, they'd win." He explains. "I had hoped that security could have held the downed ones so we could question them."

Dottie raises an eyebrow. Her voice is laden with syrupy-sweet sarcasm. "Work against each other? How so? Could it be, gosh, that we've never met before? Or weren't even aware of each other? Do please forgive me, completely random masked man, for not reading your mind and not doing as you wanted. It won't happen again." She crosses her heart with her index finger in a childish gesture of promise.

She points at Batman. "The bat-guy--who I did find to be a useful impromptu partner--makes a good point. This company has pretty awful security if they can't even restrain an unconscious combatant. The money this place makes must all go to the useless lunkheads in the penthouse instead of toward the people who are supposed to protect them." She rolls her eyes. "No wonder this place was an easy target."

She looks around. "Please tell me the police at least captured the truck? You know the one with all the explosives in it? And the man bat-guy and I took down?"

male Human Eccentric Millionaire

"I see sarcasm is alive and well" He said as he pulls up somestuff on the computer in the room.

"As for the security, they are not designed for fire fights, the area doesn't allow for security having firearms. Its some local beauricrats' idea. Which Oracle opposed."He says as he types away.

"Hopefully the truck will be taken to impound. There we can get our hands on it and look it over. As for the team we should possible try and form something. granted our performance was horrible, but that was due to lack of trust and training. That is if you are okay with that" he spouts off typing away.

Dottie was wearing the glove, and Batman brought her back. I doubt he'd have taken it off. So Dottie still has the glove.

By the time you get squared away in Nite Owl's secure space, first responders are on the scene. The street is closed and cordoned.

I'm not going to decide what you gather about the other heroes. They can decide that. Also, Nite Owl, I've never seen anyone have such a string of bad luck with the digital dice.

Nite Owl:
You would need better access to the evidence to make good observations about most of it, but you do remember a few things about the Ani-men. They are mostly chumps. A few different versions of the gang have appeared over the years, but all of them have been small change. These guys seem to be well trained and well supplied, but not truly top notch mercenary talent. You can't think of any reason any previous incarnations of the team would be involved in this, so someone probably hired them. Whiteskull is an unknown.

Lots of possibilities for investigation here.

Male Human Gadgeteer

Doctor Icarus raises an eyebrow "Granted I'm willing to bet good money I'm the newest at this kind of thing in the actual field but your pitch for working together could use some work. But I'm not anxious to try tackling these guys solo."

Looking towards Dottie and the glove "Having a look at that might provide some leads, there might be a few rare or high end parts we could track down. Whoever is making there gear, whether it be one of them or someone staying in the shadows back at a base of operations, has some serious skills."

Init +7 | Toughness +6/+4*/+3 (4 impervious, fades)| Dodge +10; Parry +10; Uncanny Dodge | Fort +7; Will +5 | Hero Pts: 0|

Nite Owl - I'd say there's not a whole lot on Dottie on the Internet, and I don't think the administrators of the Raft'd admit publicly she'd escaped. Enough digging (which the investigation check might be enough for) might turn up her conviction from about 15-20 years ago, for a terrorist attack in England. (Which she actually didn't commit.) She consistently claimed throughout she was elsewhere, but a string of very convenient evidence tied her to the event. The question is: would knowing that about her at this time complicate the team getting together?

Nite Owl wrote:
"As for the security, they are not designed for fire fights, the area doesn't allow for security having firearms. Its some local beauricrats' idea. Which Oracle opposed."He says as he types away.

"Given they're too stupid to know to tie up an unconscious combatant, it's probably a blessing they didn't have firearms. Civilians might have been hurt." She narrows her eyes at him. "Are you looking that up right now? Any thoughts on why Oracle might be a target? Other than this new Archimedes gewgaw?"

Doctor Icarus wrote:

"Well, we all made ourselves known to them so best take the fight to them. Bat-guy, you and I worked together well. The giant moth tried to shout warnings, so that was helpful. And tinker, you are certainly eager, and you seem to know something about these guys' tech. What say we work together, and we'll let the pulp detective tag along if he can bear dealing with us amateurs. How about it?"

She eyes him, then removes the glove and offers it to him, holding one of the bladed fingers carefully so he can take it by the wrist-end. "I'd like that back," she says firmly. "But if you recognized some of their other stuff, what do you make of it?"

Her eyes light as she thinks of something. "Ooh, you think they put a tracking device on it?" She seems oddly more excited about that than worried.

Batman - Felix Marshal | Bruises/Wounds: 0/0; Hero Points 2/2; Conditions: None

"If we work together, we should probably share names." he says. "and 'Batman' works better in the papers than 'Batguy'."

While we're talking about Tech, does Icarus say anything about my wings?

Male Human Gadgeteer

There's nothing on Icarus, it's his first outing. To be fair he said he'd bet on being the guy with the least fieldwork present.

Icarus has probably eyed up Batman's wings a bit appreciatively but hasn't tried messing with it yet.

"The names Doctor -Icarus. Well if it has a tracking device it led them back to where they first found ye into a room I wouldn't be surprised has some kind of countermeasures. I'm just a little more worried about a mad scientist booby trap." Icarus will examine it carefully for booby traps and see what he can gather from it.

As he starts checking it over he looks at her sideways with a grin "Besides wouldn't you like someone who might be able to repair it have a look at the way it's supposed to look before you get into a serious fight with it?"

male Human Eccentric Millionaire

Yeah digital dice hate me

Examining the glove, Doctor Icarus can determine that it is actually far more than a simple gauntlet with adamantium claws. It actually has adamantium and electromagnetic reinforcement, with some sort of pins that can fit into some sort of extension, probably fitting into the sleeves of the garment it was attached to, providing a low level of enhanced strength and durability to the wearer. There are no markings on the glove interior or exterior, but the design resembles an exoskeleton designed by Horizon Labs to be worn in construction and manufacturing.

The adamantium, though, is extremely rare, and mostly in the hands of governments or similar organizations.

Male Human Gadgeteer

Icarus let out a whistle "This is actually adamantium, not sure what kind but wow, they're electromagneticly reinforcing it and using these pins to plug into the suit and I think allow the wearer of the suit as a whole enhanced strength and durability." He pointed at it in disbelief "I mean yeah a few capes get their hands on this stuff from time to time but mostly it's in the hands of governments or other organizations with those kind of connections."

"The glove itself doesn't have any markings but I recognising elements of the design as something similar to an exoskeleton designed by Horizon Labs to be worn in constructruction and manufacturing. It's worth following up on but anyone with the connections to get adamantium could possibly just get their hands on the schematics." He began closing up the casing again and handed it back to Dottie.

He turned to Nite Owl "So if you were making custom high grade suits for criminals to go toe to toe with foes with powers why would you want that engineer? Was it to do with the announcement or was he working on another project they needed him for?"

Init +7 | Toughness +6/+4*/+3 (4 impervious, fades)| Dodge +10; Parry +10; Uncanny Dodge | Fort +7; Will +5 | Hero Pts: 0|

Dottie takes the glove back with a smile. She folds it carefully so it can't accidentally poke anything and slips it in a large inside pocket in her jacket. "It seems in good shape, but maybe I'll let you fit it to my hand better if we stick around in the same place long enough." She frowns. "The other design you mentioned as stolen, the bird-man's suit... was that also from Horizon Labs?"

She smacks her forehead. "And oh, gosh, where are my manners? I'm... are we doing the street handle thing? Let's go with... 'War Widow.'" She might have come up with that on the fly. Or perhaps not. Hard to tell.

"I am not sure, the tech is cutting edge and would change the personal device for a few years" he said typing a few things up.It was something he had approved and knew that the possibility of the device being taken was key but the engineer was something new. A variable he didn't see.

"I will have to do some digging. As for monikers I like Nite Owl for me. Always liked Owls" he says looking into adamantine thefts or issues with inventory. He also typed in Horizon Labs.

" The materials might be marked with something too. Often Materials are tagged to note sale and distribution. So if inventories are off somewhere that might lead to more of these men."

Dottie gives a brief chuckle. "So they've even stolen their identities? Well, we know they're themselves not that creative. Whoever's the leader is likely the brains. If it was the guy with the white skull symbol, or someone else they're working for, I don't know." She pauses.

"As for the engineer, it's hard to know if they grabbed him to make a show of things, or they need him specifically. Either way he needs to be kept out of their hands. Easiest way would be to kill him--no one can get his knowledge for sure, then, but I suppose that's slightly... unethical." She sighs. "I'd say the second best thing would be to report him kidnapped, and hide him away until this blows over."

Mothman flies into the same area that he left his camera. Willing himself back to human form, he picks up his camera and walks back out to the other reporters.

Nite Owl's fingers fly over the keys. Quickly looking through information that is fairly easy (in the world of super-espionage) to locate, he is able to discover that SHIELD maintains a registry of all of the known supplies of various super-metals. Nite Owl isn't able to crack SHIELD's cyber defenses, even with a 29, but he is able to poke around without attracting attention as far as he can tell.

When he attempts to look into what Horizon Labs is up to, however, he finds that his console is able to cut through their security with ease.

Turns out they have a facility in Brooklyn near the Naval Yard that had a break in about a month ago. The facility houses something called Project VUCA.

male Human Eccentric Millionaire

Nite Owl prints the list out then reroutes the info to another set of computers.Computers: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25

He hands then downloads the address for the Lab and burns it to a flash drive.

"Seems SHIELD has a list of super metal housing facilities, and Horizon has a promising facility in Brooklyn that is running something called project VUCA. We could check out both and see whats up?" He says as he pulls away form the computer quickly shutting it off.

Male Human Gadgeteer

Icarus watched Nite Owl cooly and efficiently sort out the information he wanted and turn off the machine. "I'm pretty good at putting things together but seeing as they likely wont be keen on a bunch of strange people poking around... perhaps we have some of the those with more covert skills go in to investigate. The rest of us stay close to operate as reinforcements if things turn sour. I'd rather steer clear of Shield while we have other viable leads.

Note that while Nite Owl was able to find out that there was such a list, he wasn't able to crack SHIELD security to get it.

Dottie's eyes light ever so briefly at the word "SHIELD" the first time she hears it, but she says, "I agree with Doc in that Horizon sounds at least like an easier start. I could walk in and ask around with anyone else who's willing to go in without a mask, and anyone else who wanted to come along could stay outside and swoop in if things go poorly."

She leans back. "As for SHIELD, you'd either have to steal that information or ask for it. Stealing it would likely involve hacking--not my area of expertise--and if you trigger their systems they'll see you as one of the bad guys. Asking for it might work if it comes from an upstanding citizen and you convince the right person, but that'll still come with a ridiculously unnecessary sea of bureaucracy to wade through." She rolls her eyes. "Still they should be concerned someone's stealing adamantium. Maybe someone there already knows about it?"

To the Doctor's question, "Oh, they're quirky, but I like how quiet they are. The extra mobility really comes in handy." He turns to War Widow, "That's why bats mostly come out at night. It helps keep their wings from melting."

As for the plan, "My suit contracts to a vest. I can go in and still be ready, but if they search or use metal detectors, I'm found out."

"Horizon seems the more logical course. As for infiltration. As for who goes in, I know my ability is more stealth and information gathering. I saw a bit of what War Widow could do and think she would compliment my skills. Icarus I think you could do well as support, we could remote you in and you could get the files. As for you Bats, well you can be the backup and muscle?" he said sliding the flash drive over to Icarus.

"Oh I have more to me than a thin mask" he says with a smirk before he hears the dinner and than laughs at the chemical weapon.

"Depends on the chemical and the mask. For me I'd be a permanent Raccoon!"He says before looking at the others. It was a motley crew but aside form his performance they seemed to handle themselves well, well enough that together they could see this mystery through to the end.

I think we are ready to move to Horizon Labs. Police are securing the scene, and would no doubt like to talk to most of you, but you probably don't want that. At first I thought Nite Owl and Dottie were going to roll up into Horizon and walk in the front door in civilian clothes, but I'm not sure I read that right.

Dottie's plan was to talk in the front door in civilian clothes, but I'm not sure what Nite Owl's plan is, which is why she was asking him if he'd be masked. She could go in and create a distraction while he sneaks in if that works. Of course that means I need to actually think of a useful distraction.

Question--what time of day is it?

Nah I can make myself a disguise, and a domino mask is easy to remove and put back on. Might change my premise and become more Question/Rosasach. Still Civilian clothes always good. And who doesn't like a suit tie, trench coat, and fedora!

Nite Owl can only get the basics about Horizon with his investigation checks, unless someone wants to spend a Hero Point to create a narrative advantage. (Someone used to work there, or has a friend, or is an investor, something like that.)

Here is a map that we can use for the facility. The facility is multi-level, but let's go with this unless things need to get more complicated with people coming in from the roof or something. Because of the nature of the campaign, you can expect security to be top notch private security, something along the lines of the guys Black Widow fights at the end of Iron Man 2. Not something that you are going to sweat. There would obviously also be some electronic security measures, cameras, doors, keypads, all of that mission impossible stuff. Feel free to make up things if you need. Whether you want to go with infiltration or facetime, I'll give you some skill challenges.

Nite owl taps his chin as he looks at the others. He than speaks.

"I can with the right ingress to the systems get us in, just need someone to put it on hardware. I believe they use electronic key locks. So we would need something for those. Or you know pick them."
