A killer GM with a killer smile.

Hey guys, my time has been pretty taxed lately, and I'm finding I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around this game (can't seem to get into it). I think in fairness to myself and others, I should bow out. Thanks for having me!

Guys, things really aren't moving here at all. Obviously, the game isn't really grooving with most of you. If you have some ideas for how to get things on track, I'm happy to hear them. Or, if it is better, we could all move on to greener pastures.

Yeah, while I like my character, he's just not leaping up like some do. Dotties the one who has been driving the game the most.

I am really digging the plot now we're getting into it, and I of course have been overly keen to play this character. I post a lot because I have a lot of ideas for what's going on and what's next. But...

I didn't sign up for a solo adventure however, and indeed was interested in seeing this character in a team environment. A team that pushed back sometimes and had its own ideas. Most games I play here people post several times a week. This game updates every few days at its fastest. I feel like I am the only one interested in playing. This is not a criticism of any of the players. Sometimes you don't get into a character or a plot the way others do. That's OK. But it is important to say so, if that is the case.

I posted my detour to Harnes to buy time for other plans, since some weren't keen on Dottie's plan. It wasn't intended to man people wait more. We can skip past it and go back to it later.

But if people aren't feeling it altogether... That's another issue. There's no point in playing a game no one else wants to play. Much as I'd still love to work on this character, it's not worth it to keep forcing things along. Especially because you really don't want the character with the shakiest moral compass to be pushing things along.

If folks aren't feeling their characters but dig the campaign, could a character rejigger/rewrite/and/or recruitment even be in order?

For what it's worth I love the character concepts on display, but I can see how some of them in a city intrigue game may sometimes be at a loss. At the same time, my sense of Tumbler's style is that he expects players to pick up the ball and run with it. If the story's not suiting, make up a hook for yourself and go. Of you're not the kind of player that enjoys doing that, maybe that's the issue.

Sorry for rambling. What I really want is everyone to have fun. If there is a way I can help that happen let me know. If folks aren't having fun, then maybe it is time to end, rejigger, or take a break.

I like the plot of how its going. I do like my character too. Still, I am having a hard time staying interested when it seems you are doing all the posting. Othertimes I like to be observent. And I do have to reread some rules now and then to remember what all I can do.

Otherwise I think if I get some more points I can start rounding my character out how I see him. Get some more skills, better combat and maybe even a different costume

Init +7 | Toughness +6/+4*/+3 (4 impervious, fades)| Dodge +10; Parry +10; Uncanny Dodge | Fort +7; Will +5 | Hero Pts: 0|

I feel less like "I am doing all the posting" and more that no one else is posting. The posting expectation is 1/day and most of the players barely post in this game once a week. So I feel like if I don't help push things along, nothing will ever happen. I tried earlier--when we had the Central Park meeting up--to wait for you guys to do your angle on the tech stuff--follow more puzzles, RP with each other, ask each other questions, or go whereever, and you hardly posted anything, so Tumbler changed the scene back to me and Batman.

And then when I asked am I being too pushy, most folks said no and they were content to just roll along and do whatever. So I'm getting mixed messages here.

(Yes, Dottie did reject the plan to go to the shop you suggested. Perhaps I shouldn't have; it just didn't make sense to me since we had in fact been contacted via a hacked cash register. Still, I'm sorry for pushing back on that and I should have let you take the lead.)

Tell you what: I won't post in this game at all for the next two weeks. Presume Dottie agrees with whatever course of action happens next, and talk amongst yourselves.

Alternatively, I could change characters to a character who is less dynamic/competitive/a bit of a show-off. I could change to a character who more sits in the background and observes. I really want to play Dottie, that's been a huge itch I've needed scratched, but if this isn't the right campaign for her and a more passive character would suit the team better I can do that.

What do you think?

I like Dottie.I wouldn't want you to change your character. I think its more I need to figure out where we are going and what direction we need to follow.

as for my posting I have been a bit sporadic of late as I have been working two jobs. Often back to back, and its been wiping me out. That should change in July as I am starting a new job that is basically 40 hours a week, with a small Saturday job for fun money.

So hopefully I will be able to post a little more frequently instead of sleeping all day and then scrambling to get stuff done before I have to head to my overnight job, then working at the other job right after

Don't change your character... I just find it really hard to find something to add and almost all my posts end up being quite minimalist. Dottie will win in a contest of will over what to do next outside of certain circumstances as I'm not as invested and he fully recognizes he's less experienced at this stuff than the others.

If you aren't sure what to do because you don't know your characters, I guess I get that but it's hard for me to help with that one.

If you are worried about a wrong direction, don't be. I'll create the world under your feet as you walk, as it were. I try not to run investigations in a way that there is only one right direction to go. That always leads to trouble.

Also, if you are just completely lost, you can always blow a Hero Point to get some inspiration from me, or invoke a Complication to cause yourself some trouble.

Batman - Felix Marshal | Bruises/Wounds: 0/0; Hero Points 2/2; Conditions: None

Actually, having one character pushing the story is usually a good thing. When you don't have anybody driving, it's hard to keep momentum up. And when too many people are driving in different directions, it's a fustercluck.

My problem is that poor batman isn't really pulling me. I'm ending up more reactive. that's seeming to be a problem in this game.

Init +7 | Toughness +6/+4*/+3 (4 impervious, fades)| Dodge +10; Parry +10; Uncanny Dodge | Fort +7; Will +5 | Hero Pts: 0|

Completely on another subject: if anyone's interested in applying, I am looking for a new player for my ongoing Skull and Shackles campaign.

======================

I'll sit tight with Dottie then (and I have a burning need to ask a question so I am going to post something). (FWIW I have now built a mute damage sink superhero that would be fun to play, just in case.) I can take the ball and run with it (obviously), but I don't want this game to be "Dottie and Her Hapless Allies of Convenience." I can't speak for him, but I think Tumbler started this conversation because he's looking for more player engagement.

Batman, would a character re-work help? I like your character but if you're not feeling him...

(Drops lurker cloak and gives everyone a wee wave)

Just a heads up gang that I've been following along your (mis)adventures with interest and been entertained throughout.

I originally pitched a street-level skull concept back in ye olde recruitment but withdrew due to lack of time. Just wanted to say I'm enjoying the game and the characters, and if you do look to bolster the numbers or re-recruit please consider me as an option from the lurking bench.

Been lucky enough to play alongside DQ before and I love my super heroics (and moreso Marvel)

Anyway just wanted to let you all know that you have at least one loyal reader of Dottie and her Hapless Allies of Convience :) Here's hoping for a few more issues for the collection :)

Cheers

My impression from way back in Nite Owl's initial posts was that this was a roll-out of a whole line of products, hardware and software, and that he was hoping to glean information from those products to inform his crime fighting career (helping find targets and such). That tied in so nicely to my plot plans that I just wrapped it all up into one plot.

We have now lost Kevin/Dr. Icarus. With the departures of two players and the stated lack of drive from most of the other players, I think it is time to move on from this journey. I apologize for failing to provide a game that kept everyone excited and ready to move. I hope to see all of you around on the boards. Happy future gaming.
