Mangroves of the Desert (Inactive)

Game Master Herkymr the Silly

The lands are barren of their once luscious greenery and varied other ecosystems. The culprits are chaos storms--large random magic surges ravaging the lands like tornadoes. The deserts have spread as the storms continue to force the land to change. Purveyors of the magic arts have drawn together in hopes of discovering the cause of the storms.

Civilization has shrunk to the edges of the desert for the most part. Mangrove trees have been cultivated to stop the advent of the desert into the remaining waters. Druidic magic strengthens the trees and purifies the water so that life can be maintained. They also provide refuge for many of the creatures that have survived the changes.

The dragons have all but disappeared and the giants are ranging out once more leaving destruction and terror in their wake. Rumors of a cabal of wizards controlling the ravaging bands have begun to circulate among the rabble in the cities.

Sages and others of ancient lore whisper of a group tasked with keeping the ancients in line with nature and magic. Absence of these guardians could correspond with the giants raiding and the notable absence of the dragons.

Unk decided to say goodbye to Max and got out of the stall. I might just take him up on that in the morning. He then walked through the noisy stables and then the only slightly less noisy main-room to the hallway with his room and got into his bed and went to sleep.

Mary Conversation:
Mary studies Shadara in silence as finishes her ramble of questions. Pausing for a moment and then looking directly into her eyes, Mary casually states,
I recognize your sigil, before I say more tell me why you are here and from where u come. Do you have a gemmed stormbow?
Shadara’s eyes grow wider as Mary speaks, her mouth open by the time that Mary finishes. Shadara waits for a moment while composing herself.

Stupid, stupid, stupid, at least TRY not to look like an ignorant person

I do not know what a stormed bow is, but this was a gift from my mother, she taps the bow that is on the table. I also have a gemstone necklace that I received from her, as she pulls the necklace from underneath her shirt. She does not take the necklace off but holds it so that Mary can see the sigil shown in the stone. That just appeared there today. As for your other question, I am a great….I have come to ….I …. Each lie that she tries to speak slips from her mind and dies on her tongue at the unwavering gaze of Mary. Try as she might, Shadara cannot seem to come up with a lie that will sound like anything but a lie. She pauses for a moment, sighs and hunches over like she is deflating.
Weakly she says I ran away from home to see the world. We are so removed from society that the only knowledge we have of the outside world is in book form. The council forbid me to leave by I did anyway. It is more wondrous and frightening than the books could have described.
With her head hung low she watches Mary to see the reaction. She is confused as to why she would tell this person so much information. Her hands fidget in her lap and she waits like a child about to be scolded.
Mary studies her for a moment digesting what she has said and then speaks.

Hmm you are an interesting conundrum. I am a keeper of knowledge as this room demonstrates; I recognize several things but I need to know what you do before I feel at liberty to teach & say more. here are a few things I must require answered.1) who are you & who are your parents? 2)where did you get your mark? 3) where did you come from & what has brought you here? 4) what do you know of stormbows & have you seen one & have you seen the gems that power them? She waits again using that unwavering gaze from before. Once you have answered her to her satisfaction, she draws in a deep breath, cast some sort of magic very quietly as she motions to the door, and pulls up a chair. She indicates you will want one as well. For a few moments she looks from your bow to your gem to your sigil. Then she begins
So I will spin a story from long ago as I remember it from the histories and the oracles and the witches. Years before Fifth Port was more than just a minor settlement of fishermen and their trolling ships, the dragons and the people of before were predominant throughout our world. The storms had not come and the deserts that existed were natural, small and limited. Rich forests of deciduous and coniferous trees dotted the mountains and many more species lived and thrived during this time.
Slowly other races began to emerge. The elves, dwarves, human, halflings, gnomes. and many of the more savage species began to claim areas as their holdings and kingdoms. The Dragons and the people of before began to with draw from the civilized jungle to areas that few could find or knew of. Many of the impossible valleys housed the people of before and they have left ruins of their domiciles in a few of these valleys as they faded from all but memory.
As these calming influences left the land, kingdoms emerged. Some from emerged dispute and war , some from supply and demand of resources, and some from trade routes supplying things to areas in lack. The races split apart from the other races and developed their own way of life. The dwarves took to the Mountains, the caverns, and the high vales. Elves took to the forests, the swamps, the jungles, and many of the other woodlands. Humans, adaptable as always, filled in everywhere that others didn't want. The halflings and gnomes found ways to blend with in the societies around them.
Some groups became friendly and peaceful neighbors. Other became domineering, aggressive, and warlike in their desire for power. Their need to expand and dominate became the main reason for the wars that ravaged our lands. A few of the races withdrew and became almost myth; while others joined forces with one side or another in the conflicts. Peace came and went never lasting more than a few decades but war and strife were constant.
Finally when the need for control enflamed and threatened to destroy the kingdoms, some of those who sought to gain the upper hand, sought the dragons. Not for peace and knowledge but for magic, armor, and riches. They hunted them until the dragons struck back. Many kingdoms and civilizations were annihilated with the dragon reprisals. As the threat of the dragons began to weigh heavy upon many of the rulers, a council was called and a peace was established. Unbeknownst to the parties meeting, several dragons also attended the counsel meeting in the guise of one race or another. One such was a dragon of high birth and an agenda of his own.
There are many, many rumors of what happened and what lands were given and taken by whom. Little of the facts can be substantiated but a few do remain though mostly in legend or ancient long lost or forgotten tombs of history.
A small group of those that came before, the druids of the lands, the oracles of the elements, and the witches of the covenant were charged with the writ of promise. In this writ, sentinels of peace were established from each of the sentient races. These sentinels were charged with judging between kingdoms when dispute arose. They were given lands for their inheritance which with the help of many magics, were sanctified for their kin ,providing the needs, and maintaining the independence of the sentinels.
The locations of these sanctuaries blessed and shielded by the magics of all disciplines. Entrance to these sanctuaries was granted only when accompanied peacefully by a sentinel. Exit was also handled by the sentinels themselves. The memories of the location of you had been simply disappeared once you left. The sentinels families rarely left the sanctuaries and then for only brief periods. This helped to protect the sentinels enabling them to stand apart from the peoples of the lands. The sentinels belonged to the land, attached to the needs of the peoples, the creatures, and promised balance and justice.

The sentinels however were not autonomous. They were checked and censored by the very peoples the assisted. Three rulers from different kingdoms could sit in judgment of individual sentinels but the punishment or discipline was only dictated and carried out by the Sentinels superiors. The leaders bringing the dispute were often allowed to give input and watch the results of their judgment being carried out. This allowed for peace and balance to coexist with the sentinels and the peoples of the land.
When disputes between kingdoms arose, 3 sentinels from different groups were called to sit in judgment. During this time, an armistice was in place for all that the dispute effected. This armistice was enforced by the home clusters of the three sentinels sitting in judgment. The decision of the sentinels was the final say and end point to the conflict. Should one or the other of the parties involved refuse to withdraw from the conflict peacefully, the sentinels would organize strike forces and armies to carry out the decision. Penalties for disavowing the rights to judgment by the sentinels were levied upon those ignoring or refusing to uphold the decision.
The life of the Sentinels often became hereditary moving from one generation to the next but it was not mandatory. Even those that did not wish to be sentinels but desired to remain with in the sanctuaries with their kin were allowed as long as the could add to the support of the sanctuaries population. Those that wished to leave, were also allowed to but the memory of how to get back to the sanctuary was also taken from them thus further protecting the sanctuaries. Some of those that left would seek mates and after living in the world would desire to return to the sanctuaries. Sometimes this return occurred but often it did not. This flux of population allowed the separation of the sentinels to continue unaffected by time as new families and generations were introduced.
This also helped to keep the sentinels in contact with the outside world and up-to-date on much of the current cultural norms.

I do not know what a stormbow is or that it is … powered by anything. My name is Shadara Windless, and I come from the Baldeni. I do not know who my father is but my mother’s name was Maldetrin. The mark, I am told was on me from birth, the story of my birth goes like this.
Raiders attacked our village, they came into my mother’s tent from the side upsetting several alchemical projects. There was a massive explosion. When she came to she was in heavy labor and I was born in the bottom of the crater left by the explosion. From what I understand there was an alchemical soup that I was born into which gave me the hair, skin, and mark you see. I left the village that is far south from here and while traveling heard the name of this town several times so I decided to see what it was about. I met someone who might have information or employment for me if I can gather some people together. I guess I am breaking his strictures by telling you that. I know you saw me flip the gold coin in the cup. That was what I was told to do when I had a team assembled.

Slowly the world returned to balance and races had learned to be neutral in dealing with others and to keep peace for they still feared the reprisals of the dragons should war and the hunting of the dragons once again break forth. Several decades after the the Counsel of the Accord (as it became known) messengers, many half-dragon in descent, arrived at the council halls with directives and accords of their own from their draconic Lords.

The words to these accords have been lost to know writing but the gist is as follows: You have shown you can respect each other and solve your differences in peace. We will no more retaliate for the sins of the past. ... However if war begins again that ravages the land and extinguishes the life many kingdoms and encompasses the races, we will feel it is necessary to reestablish peace whether by breathe and claw, wing tail, or subterfuge and sabotage.
Hunt us and we will hunt you.
This world is ours. We drew it from the waters. We blessed it with abundance in life and substance. And we will see it remain whole.
Our descendants, our half blooded children, and those of us who so choose...will live among you. We will live openly or only reveal ourselves to those who have need as we deem fit. We will send several of our children to join the sentinels. Our wealth and our magics will help in keeping them with sustenance.

This is our pact, our accord, and our warning given to this land. The witches of the covenant, the druids of the land, and those who have gone before and choose to remain among you will, have our help and our protection. Should they seek with need they will be directed to our clan council and we will see if it is time for us to come forth again.

Marry continues the dragons were still around for some time after the accord was completed. Slowly with not reason anyone has discovered, they withdrew from sight and soon from most memory. Shortly after this began to happen the storms arose. When the people who came before where sought out for knowledge on how to stop the storms, few could be found and those that could politely refrained from assisting by simply delaying and then disappearing when the interested party gave up. After a few decades, the people of before were considered by many as having been no more than myth and legend.
It has been said that when in great need or with clean intent, the villages and abodes of these people can be found. Often it they are in places nearly impossible to reach by most means. Those that enter such buildings usually come back with a blessing, a curse, or empty hands. Some do not return at all.

Marry pauses once again, looking to a space not far behind you as if you where not there, seems to contemplate her next words. She sits for several minutes and just as you begin to shift and speak she holds up a hand, You must wait before asking more for what I have to tell is not complete. Many of the answers you desire will be revealed in the tale itself.
Now, when help could not be found in the ancient ones, the sentinels, witches of covenant, many high druids, and the elemental Oracles came together to address the problem. The desert was expanding exponentially and the surrounding life was dieing.
Several things came about because of this meeting. First, the druids and the Oracles combined forces and sealed the rivers and a small portion of the surrounding land within a protective "bubble" some would call it. While this did not solve the problem of the parching storms, it did seem to pause the completion of the desert's bid for complete dominance.
The second occurrence, was that sentinels and the witches of covenant joined ranks to create many items to combat the power of the storm and the creatures that had begun to emerge from with in the parching wind and burning sands. Many of these were weapons designed for the sentinels or those blessed with such weapons, to "attack" the storms at range with magic drawn through the wielders themselves. The magic of these weapons seemed to be another way to deter and slow the destruction of the lands. These weapons became known as storm bows-- not always weapons such as your bow or even things we would perceive as weapons. The were called bows because like the bow of a boat the were meant to cut through the storms and lead to a safer tomorrow. Many of the only ones known to still exist, are bows like the one you carry. Thus after a few years the common people started calling them stormbows and most have forgotten these weapons are not all bows but range in types like the races of the land.
Yes many of the wielders and many of the weapons themselves have become victims of the very storms they were charged to defend us from. Slowly the sentinels have withdraw from civilization. They are thought to be in their sanctuaries forging new weapons and other magics and means to again drive the storms back.
Some people claim to see them on occasion just before the storms get at their worst. Some debate whether they fight the storms or control them now. Their withdrawal from the lands hasn't helped with this concern either.
The witches of Covenant, before you ask I will tell you--no one but they know what the Covenant is and they become evasive or aggressive when asked directly about it, with drew into their hideaways. We do see them occasionally when they come to our metropolis but those that have attempted to question them about where they are dwelling and what they are up to, seem to be few. Far fewer are those that follow them out of the city.

standing she walks to a nearby counter and reaches behind it for a couple of crystal goblets, fills them from a bottle kept nearby them in their nesting hole, and brings one to you. The telling of this always makes me contemplative or moody some would say, but it always makes me thirsty. I have nothing but my favorite beverage here as this is my private sanctuary. I cannot in good faith ease my parched throat without first offering refreshment to you.
The liquid inside the masterpiece goblet shimmers as the light reflects from its mercury like surface. The faint smell of the rare peach hanging on a tree in a forgotten orchard wafts enticingly up and tickles not only your nostrils but also nips with sweetness your mouth. A sip. Savored. Parts your lips, frosting your tongue and disappearing with a lingering and pleasant chill.
As you sit in the chair offered and revel in the sweet frosted beverage, Marry continues The Oracles as well have dwindled to only a few. They are scattered throughout the land. Many of those the live around don't even have an inkling of who and what they really are. They no longer seek recruits from the races around as they once did.

part 2---sleepy time she comes :)

shadara:
Maldetrin, the name you use for that of your mother, is really more of a title than a name. This I know because at one time I to held it. It is the name of "office" if you will given to the highest ranking of the witches. Ranking however is not as most the world sees rank. I will not explain it is not in the wind yet for you to hear. The insignia or sigil you bear is the mark of the covenant. You will know what that is when it decides to reveal itself.
The woman you call mother is actually what was called Hand of Oracle. You were a secret she kept from us until it was to late. You were not her first child though, she had another a girl left with the Baldeni as well. Not fully of your race by blood but raised as one among the leaf lovers.
Maldetrin is the title given to those outside the Witches of Covenant. To us within, she was called the Hand of Oracle. She was the one that passed the covenant from one to another and taught us how to adjust to the times. However, the Hand is not to have children. It interferes with her abilities. She is the mother of all Covenant not just of a single individual. Your mother broke the tradition once with your sister. She was rebuked severely and lost many insights. She however was always questioning tradition and there were many things that she knew that she shared with none of the Covenant.
When we began to dwindle in numbers, she gave us charge to wait and continue in our learning. We had the rites to Covenant removed for a time. She left. She said she would return and Covenant would increase once again. She never did return. It is her personal sigil covenant that is emblazoned on your head. Sigils however are uniquely individual and have never been known to duplicate themselves on another once it has chosen its wielder. If it were not for this sigil and having tested its taboo already, we would not be talking and you would not have survived meeting me. Which is a shame you are a pleasant young miss.
She winks at you after saying this but you are certain that she is dangerously serious. She pauses long enough to take a drink, swirling it around for the longest of seconds before swallowing. The liquid slides a smile across her lips as it slips down her throat. Her eyes become more intense and her manner becomes a bit more brisk. I atleast now know why she did not return. You are a break in tradition. An anomaly with in the bounds of what we thought were stable. Not only do you now come bearing her mark and lineage, you bring with you one of the bows of the storm. May I see the gem? [/b[ She holds your eyes with hers until you relent and place the gem tenuously into the outstretched palm. As if understanding your thoughts, her smile slims to a more serious line and she says [b]By the blood of Covenant and the promise of kin, I do pledge the safe return of this gem to you, Shadara the fate chosen wielder. Pausing upon completion of these words. her smile returns as broad if not broader than when it disappeared. The oath of Kin and Covenant aren't given lightly not should they be taken lightly.
The Maldetrin had other responsibilities as well. One such was the removal of those that searched for ways around the original accords. Sometimes a scare was all they needed. Other times, they simply needed to exist in the next life. When these situations came to light, it was the Hands responsibility to follow Covenant thus delivering the necessary removal or seeing that it was accomplished. Your mother was one of the greatest Hands we have ever seen. She was proficient at removal but more oft than not she would seek other ways to accomplish the same results. When other forms of persuasion or dissuasion could not be reached, she took the final removal into her own hands. She believed that the death of another of sentient race was damaging to the one performing the act and that such things could never be completely atoned for in this life. This belief was why she tried so hard to find other means of protecting the accords. It was also why she refused to let others of the Covenant to carry out the final revocation.
Marry reaches over and takes a book from its resting place on the counter-top. Opening she envelopes her attention to the text within giving you time to absorb some of the revelations you have just received. She reads for almost 1/2 hour before looking up from the pages. The coin you placed with in the cup, was a token of acknowledgement from a comrade that has been seeking help. He has already sent Jerras to gather and test a group to see if they can be of greater assistance. The human that came in with your Vanarran friend has already agreed to help. Jerras will be back in the morning. I suggest you join the human in his task tomorrow. As for the rest, we will have to continue another time. I do have a business to run. she chuckles as she sets her book back on the marbled counter. As one seeking accord with another, I grant thee life, breathe, shelter, and help. She motions for you to follow and returns to the main room. Motioning for a tall slender elf, she gives instructions that he is to see you are given an adequate room, food, and a bath if you so desire. Then with a small nod, she leaves you and returns to her responsibilities as a hostess.

As you wake, you remember in detail what you heard and saw last night. You realize that Nella of the Scorpions, is the one that will know the most about what has happened at the monastery. She of course will not help you learn what it is you seek. You yourself aren't even sure that you know for certain what it is you seek. You feel that the master some how left a task for you to finish.

The two of you had often talked morals and philosophy after your instruction and chores for the day where completed. The calm master monk seemed to have taken a interest in you personally from the moment you arrived at the walls of his home. Many of the other instructors and often students mentioned this but were never given a evasive or eclectic answer. You as well never knew why but as the years went by in the monastery the master became more of a surrogate father than a superior. He spoke often in metaphor and left you to ruminate on the meaning and application of what had been said. Questions were answered with demonstrations and then observations and moral questions. You remember that the master always ended his sessions of instruction or the debates on morality with "Answers must be questioned by questions still needing answers. A Universe moves, elements change, time flows, yet the morality of choice is constant. Knowledge with out questions is like fire with out fuel. It enlightens only briefly."

A piece of flesh hangs from his teeth but he is completely undisturbed by it. As you close the door, you hear the whispering shadows He is as welcome as you here, son of a friend, son of Mihnea. Hunt with care and we shall soon meet,
A quick glance reveals nothing about the speaker and so you return to your rooms for the night.

Shortly after first morning shadow, Marry arrives somewhat frazzled looking. Unfortunately my friends I will have to have a morning repast with you at another time. There were things that arose like the dust on unsat in chairs displaced by the finding of a new rump. The housekeeping if you will left me with more to do than I feel I have time to do and I haven't even been able to finish getting assistance for Jerras this morning and he needs able bodies to make the requisite delivery this morning. As a favor, will you break your fast with him and here what he wants. Then if you desire, i wont be offended either way, assist him? He has things that must be done and I agreed to help but haven't been. I will assume by the look on your face that you agree to atleast hear him out. Bring the bird if you are so inclined to join Mang Fu Saan. without waiting for further response she motions for you to follow as she scurries out of the room and back towards the main inn.
She leads you to a small room not far from the kitchen. A smallish halfling is already arrived and seems to be pacing the length of the rooms far wall muttering to himself and almost oblivious to your arrival.
Jerras, I have asked these to to hear you out. I promise nothing more from them nor do i promise they will agree. I have another, the elf girl from last night, that I have directed to you. She will arrive in a brief lapse of time.
I am sorry that I was unable to get more for you. My other duties have suddenly peeped their heads out of their shell like a fledgling demanding attention. I could not ignore the need.

Not to worry Lady Marry. I have talked with a man called Seth and he has agreed to help and to seek others to assist him. If these hear me out and agree to assist I feel we may yet accomplish the requested delivery. Barrows can be rough even when we don't have yellow colored shadows.
Now shoo shoo. I know you have other duties and an in to keep. If you will send in Myala with our breakfast when ready I would be grateful and once more in your debt.

He grins impishly and winks slyly at the two of you, and after they eat your breakfast at my expense, maybe they will be grateful enough to be in my debt.

You've still got a young body but an ancient heart Jerras. They may choose as they wish and they are not obliged to help you in exchange for the food.
I know you would get sick of pacing and talking to your own ears if you didn't have some one else to chatter with. So,
She smiles just as impishly at the halfing, They keep you busy telling stories and out of my hair, they will more than have saved me the cost of a meal. With a small jesting wave. Marry leaves the room.

So, I am Jerras. My specialty is deliveries into the Barrows with 100% dependability and accuracy. I have a charge given to me to see several packages delivered to a warehouse by the second shadow of mid-day.
Please tell me about yourselves while we wait for the others to join us.
Once they have arrived and breakfast has as well, then while your bellies keep you happy captives I will explain more in trust and in depth.
A jovial smile laughs across his face as he pulls out a chair. HAHAHA! I always have to get up to be up. he laughs as he jumps onto the chairs seat. Comes from being so reversely tall. Most people can reach that way well He motions towards the ceiling, but i can reach further that way than they He grins again as he points to the floor.
Now for your stories. He places his hands on the table. His thumbs still twiddling unconsciously after indicating two chairs for you to sit.

she bustles from one group to another and patron to patron. Her peels of merriment lighten the mood of the room. Soon, others can be heard to laugh, joke, and genuinely be happy.
The servers, mostly men this morning whereas there as a fair mix of gender the previous evening, glide across the polished wooden floors taking requests from many and delivering a variety of food to others.
Tubers, thick as your forearm and as long as Buck's leg, are served with cold cream like liquid. Cakes, flattened and fried, are heaped over eggs collected from a variety of birds. Bowls, plates, and platters slip forth their food into happy faces. The faces in turn slide laughter and happiness into the air tickling the moods of all present and leaving grins in their wake.
Cups, from which wafts smells of apples,of cherries,of berries, and of other fruits, are placed as the next performer for the patrons lips. Steam or cool mist rise from the surface of many of the of the beverages. Occasionally, a yelp of "ouch to hot!!" or 'brr freeze my tongue on that one!!!" accompany the elevation of the mugs. Such exclamations are almost always followed by the bells of laughter.
Marry comes to where you are sitting and greets you.good morning. I hope you slept past the first morning shadow. I was told that Jerras said we were to accommodate your needs last night. He has arrived earlier than expected this morning just a bit after second morning shadow. He is waiting in a private dining room for his breakfast. You are welcome to join him. T
There are others there as well that may be your companions with Jerras' task.
Waiting for your nod of assent, she leads you into the hallway where she had led the others previously.
Rapping lightly on the partially closed door, she walks in with out pause.
Here Jerras. I brought another you can regale with your fabled adventures. She places her hand be her mouth conspiratorially and says to you If he has done half of what he claims to then he has an excuse to not be taller than a dwarf's knee cap. Grinning she leaves you. You hear her pick up a happy melody as she walks down the hall.
You glance around the room and see Jerras, twiddling his thumbs in excitement as he looks from the stony bird-man and his raptor to the pale stranger sitting like he belongs to the aristocracy.
Please my friend. The halfling greets you, grab a chair. Breakfast will be arriving momentarily and then while your mouth keeps you hostage at my table, I will explain what I have hired you to complete. I do believe we are waiting for atleast one more. I was going to talk to the kobold from yesterday's hullabaloo but he seemed to have melted out of sight when his ogreish companions were approached by Rocky mooded Murs. Have any seen him this morning or did he seek rooms else where? He has been to the burrows and assisted in a delivery to where we are going. I would like him to accompany us if possible.Hmmm Jerras goes quiet in contemplation and his fingers follow suit. I'll leave you three here briefly and go ask Marry about him. Please take the time to get acquainted with each other. It is always good to have friends in a new place. he hurries towards the door, pauses only long enough to say if the fair arrives before I return, enjoy but save me some of the orange-mint smelling draught. It will be cold and the cups break when dropped so do be careful with them. Marry wouldn't feel I was so welcome if I were to break her good serving ware. shadara wakes still troubled by the conversation with Mary. She absently makes her way to the common room and is almost surprised to find herself there. After a few moments she stops one of the barmaids and asks her is she has seen the Vanaran monkey man and the other with the really large bird that is always with him and the hair with the arrow shapes in it. The maid immediately stops what she is doing and has Shadara follow her out of the main room toward the kitchens. The maid stops at a door, knocks quickly, and then opens the door. Without a word she turns and stands aside while holding the door for Shadara. As shadara enters the room, sees that there are 3 others people and a bird in the room but is still processing the events from the night before. She walks over to an empty chair, sits in it and is still looking at the table.

"I am Milos." he looks wryly at Jerras "While not wishing to appear mysterious, I am afraid I do not share my story, true name or origin casually. You have obviously been reassured of my competence, and we share a mutual friend. That should be sufficient."

Combat Rolls

With his head ringing with every loud noise in the main dining hall, Unk walks over to the nearest barmaid and, remebering last night and who he wanted to meet, asks her where the monkey man was. She looks side-long at him and says Right this way and leads him into a hallway through the kitchen and opens a door at the end. Then the barmaid walked away and Unk walked in and sat down at the table. Who are these people?

rolls

Milos looks at the newcomer and nods
"Milos." he introduces himself brusquely.

Jerras looks up at the entrance of Unk Ah! I was wondering if you would join us. I am Jerras. I am an emissary for Lady Duellona. We have business in the Barrows. There is some opposition to the delivery I need you to facilitate. This delivery needs to be made but whether delivered openly or delivered subversively I don't care as long as it gets there by tonight. I will leave that up to you should you chose to accept this job.The delivery consists of these 4 chests. He motions and 4 small coffers about the size of the crates apples are sold from in the marketplace appear next to where he stands. The items inside are fragile and need special care. That care can only be provided one place in this city and is why it is paramount to get it delivered into the proper hands .They are eggs. He opens one and displays the contents. In side nestled carefully in a snug fitting soft lining is an egg. It is about 9 inches across the top and appears to be almost 2 feet long. It shimmers briefly when subjected to the lights in the room. You feel a sense of protectiveness seep into you as you look at the cargo. At this point what eggs the are is not important to you. Nor honestly is it your business.
I am willing to pay 3 gold a piece and a minor item of magical capabilities upon delivery however, should you take the responsibility for thier delivery,You will accept a spell of location and clairvoyance/cairaudience to be placed upon you for our security. The spells will be removed upon completion of the delivery. You decide.
He finishes and turns away giving your group an opportunity to discuss his offer

Combat Rolls

My name is Unk. It's nice to meet you Milos.

Unk looks at the eggs and immediately knows his answer. Sir, I accept your offer. He puts his fist to his heart, a salute from his home and asks, May I ask what this item is?

rolls

Milos look sceptical for a moment, and turns to his new companion Mang.
"Marry favours the mission, so I am inclined. The decision is yours, though."

I will offer a few options when the delivery is completed and you may choose from the proffered items. That is all I will say as to what the item maybe. Just know that Marry,Our friends Veras and Vigi will assist in providing suitable items for your personal use and preference. I will leave the room for a lttle while so you may decide unhindered whether to do this and whether to do it as a group. If you decide to accept as a group I will need to know whom is going to be in charge of seeing it is completed. With this, Jerras turns and walks to the door. Opening it he pauses before exiting, I can find others if needed, but Marry has recommended you all for one reason or another. If you have decided by when the maid comes back to refill the drinks for you, that you need to talk with me and I will return. I do however need an answer within the next passing of the morning shadow.time

Mang Fu Ha Saan sits quietly and listens to Jerras as he provides the details of the job. Responding to Milos' comments, he speaks. There are a number of reasons I can think of for why we should take this task. First among them is that I need to test the mettle of the others who will be with us.

Turning to Unk.
You, you said your name was Unk? Well, Unk of the Kobold, I am told you've been to our delivery point. You will show us the way.

Finally, addressing Seth.
You came in with Jerram, talking hands, Lord of the Monkeys? Where is he? Is he still with the dark Elf girl?

Combat Rolls

Nodding to Jerras, Unk says Thank you

Scowling and turning to Mang he says Just call me Unk. I am no longer in any tribe of Kobold. And yes I have been to the Barrows once, but I do not understand how you could know that. Explain yourself!

Shadara barely notices the door opening or the little fellow who comes in. She is shaken from her contemplation as Jerras starts speaking.
Get ahold of yourself. You didn't even notice this man here.

She remains motionless listening to him speak. With her interest peaked she decides to continue to be silent as the others start to talk. At Mang and Unk's exchange she decides it is time to speak.

If you want straight answers little one, you will not get them from him. She makes an offhanded gesture toward Mang. He will puff and posture just like his bird but in reality is unobservant enough to notice that the quote unquote dark elf girl is in the room. You are the first to accept the job offer, are you ready to take responsibility for those who follow you? Or do you abdicate the leadership role to someone else? If you agree to take up this leadership role I will stand by your side in support.

Combat Rolls

Still looking quite irked, Unk turns toward The elf and says I don't wish to lead anything. I will only lead if no-one else here has courage enough to do it. If you can tell, I'm not good with people. Plopping down, on the much too big for him, chair. He glares at the rest of the people in the room with his pupils in narrow slits.

Damage and round actions Attack rolls

Who all is in the room? Everything is so fragmented right now with everyone being separated and a few other things I have no idea where everyone is right now.

Damage and round actions Attack rolls

Mang Fu Ha Saan laughs when Shadara finally speaks, and addresses her and Unk with fire in his eyes.
Finally out of your stupor I see, now that you are here in both mind and body and not stuck communing with the floor I will answer your question. I will lead, this mantle was foisted upon me when the spiritual home of my people was destroyed by the storms covering this planet. I will lead and I will paint myself with the blood of those responsible.

But if I am to lead I need to know that when blades are drawn and steel clashes that you and anyone else with me is more than just words that falter in battle. So I have answered your question, now you must answer mine. This whole time I have been testing you, and all I see so far is cleverness, but I need to know that you can hold your own in battle. If you are a capable warrior then I will have you stand with me and we will fight for honor, glory, and the restoration of our world.

Turning his attention to Unk.

The same goes for you, I will lead you to honor, glory, and restoration. But can you fight?

only on not in the room is Jerras and the DM :) --- or am I ???

rolls

Milos carefully stands straighter and meets the eyes of the others in turn. He smiles at the mention of blood.

Combat Rolls

Unk Stares stoically at Mang, his gaze only breaking when he sees the pale man's creepy smile.Yes I can fight. But don't speak to me of honor, glory or restoration. I came here for two purposes. Firstly to seek adventure and the second reason I don't even know yet. He trails off at the last part with uncertainty in his voice.

Shadara shakes her head slowly as a wry smile as mang continues his insults.

Quiet, clever, and alive beats loud and dead any day. By all means, bang the drums of war so that the enemy will never see me coming. Just for sheer curiosity I travel the same direction as you. As far as your question,.... I have a knife.

Combat Rolls

Unk looks blankly at Shadara while she speaks and right after she finished, his mouth opens up wider than any human could, and then his very long tongue falls out of his mouth, then goes up to lick his eyeball.

male Human Commoner/Ranger

I sit and eat good grub with all of you. I feel the needs and estimate the limits that all of us have. I here the words that we have spoken and believe that we already sound like a squabbling family. There is a potential stampede of destructive diversity but only fools let things get that far. We, we are not fools. I can feel a change coming in my life because I have meet each of you. I will become what I must to see we all reach the end of what appears to be a very dangerous cattle drive.

Seth Conmong wrote:

Bold intended??

Damage and round actions Attack rolls

You think I will give them warning? Only in your arrogance would that occur.
Does a Tiger announce its presence in its bloodlust? Does it give warning when it is about to strike its prey? No! We will be like the hidden death. We will find weakness and strike.

The Gods have shown me you have potential, but it is clear to me that you will have to change your ways before you can reach that.

Combat Rolls

Unk, looking very bored now decides to speak. So how long are we going to sit around and talk about this? Are we taking the job or not? And if we are can we move on now? sitting around and trading insults is just a big waste of time. he says with exasperation in his voice.

Damage and round actions Attack rolls

Mang Fu Ha Saan breaks his attention from Shadara, ignoring any future quip from her as he addresses Unk.

All action and no talk... I like you already. Jerram Lord of Monkeys is the last one we are waiting for.

rolls

"There is something to be said for talk. I'm heartened to see that everyone seems to favour subtlety in their actions - even if not in their words."

***AS JERRAM*** Jerram enters just as Mang finishes talking with unk. Writing somewhat slower than normal, The "deemed" Lord of monkeys, responds. Seth and I are linked. We have been told that we must help each other. So where he goes I do as well. Trusting the bond we are to forge. setting his chalkboard on the table he sits in a chair silent with more than just words. He appears to almost be mourning someone or something and a pin

Shadara watches as Jerram enters the room. She immediately sees he is in pain. She takes the seat next to him and signs:

Sign:
Your pain is evident, if you need me I will be there

"Huh." Milos grunts when Jerram walks in. "I thought that was a metaphor."

So we seem to all be in agreement as to the task that has been presented.

Shardara slowly looks at each person in the room, finally coming to a stop looking at Unk.

Now to see the true colors of each individual as we move forward, anyone know what we should do now.

Damage and round actions Attack rolls

Mang Fu Ha Saan chuckles at Sharadas remark of what to do next.

For now, let's eat. When the maid returns we will let Jerras know we have accepted the job. I have a few more questions for him but we need not concern ourselves with that now.

Combat Rolls

Unk flashes his reptile teeth at Mangs compliment. in a smile And frowns confusedly at Milos comment. Then picks up a fruit and eats it.

Jerram looks up at Shadara and smiles,

Sign:
Thank you. And how do you fare? You seemed to also recieve troubling news. Can I be of assistance?

The maid walks in just as his hands come to rest. He moves to his chalkboard and writes out a request, I would like something plain for breakfast. Rice? Or maybe a simple bread and some water? Thank you.

The maid looks at the sign with curiosity written plainly on her face, I'll see what I can do, she says with uncertainty. Despite her reservations, she comes back a few moments later with a small loaf of bread and butter.

Jerram pays then pushes away the butter and begins in on the bread. As he does he pauses between bites to moron in Shadara's direction.

Sign:
I will go with this group, but what is this job we're to accept?

Shadara visibly centers herself and then signs:

sign:
I have learned some distressing information concerning my mother. I am still sorting it out and trying to understand all the information. I will talk to you about it more on the trip.

The job that we have accepted is to transport cargo to a place called the Burrows. The little green one there has been there before so will guide us. Arrow head over there thinks at he must command to group by virtue of the fact that he is male and breathes air. She gestures to Unk and Mang as she is talking about them.

sign:
We will have to watch him as I think he is more bark and the bird is the bite.

Combat Rolls

Unk overhears what Shadara said and pouts. I'm not that little. he says sitting up a bit straighter.

A young elvish boy enters the room somewhat tentatively ,"Is sss miisiistress Shadarrra here? I am ordereed to find her." He stammers out almost inaudibly

Combat Rolls

Unk looks at the boy with an emotionless stare.

I am here little one, do not be afraid. You have found me but the question I have is who sent you?

Shadara smiles at the boy as she talks and slowly as if not to scare the boy, stands up.

sense motive:

An unearthly voice erupts from the boys mouth and his body goes absolutely rigid."Pay with the coin" ,seek with the coin,"tithe with the coin" You have given me the token. Have you found the others? The face of the boy has gone almost completely colorless and the voice is to confident for the stuttering boy who first entered the room. A liquid smile splays across his lips of a somewhat bestial charm.

You did not ask my name when first we met and so you shall not have it now. You were quick with the reflexes but the wit has yet to be tested.

Jerram stares at the boy, eyes going wide. He reaches to his side and his muscles tense. He waits like this as the two continue their conversation.
