As Axel's spear pierces his rat's brain, killing it, the last rat, suffering from numerous heavy wounds, bleeding from a dozen orifices, turns with a yelp, and runs away. (Withdraw action)
Combat ends. You may set about cleaning the carcasses and transporting them back to the speeder. These rats, while large, are are quite lean, with only a small amount of usable meat from each. I will have you roll survival to field dress the carcasses of each, separate check for each. The roll will determine how much you recover. You managed to kill three.
It was not mentioned earlier, but you will need to gather around 250 kilos of meat to feed the clan for the period of time required.
Vyr Sol'rova |
8 arrows shot, 6 recovered.
Vyr recovers his arrows from the dead rats.
"Why thank you Anders. I will have to remember Vod." Vyr look down at the rats. He though about taking a knife out but... "Tarros, I will let you cut them open. You are much better at this then I am but I will try to help."
Aid another (survival): 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (12) - 1 = 11
Woot I help
Axel Stone |
survival: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (9) + 0 = 9 so close...
Axel tries to help out but it's clear he's never been much of a huntsman. Mostly he's just making a mess of things. "Bleh," he says, sniffing at the one impaled on his spear, "You know, these things don't really look any more appetizing on the inside than they did on the outside. You sure they're safe to eat?"
Tarros Jek |
"Um, do you guys want some medical help? I'm a certified medic."
Tarros is bleeding from multiple bite wounds. "Yeah, that'd be nice. Gotta clean these before infection sets in."
Once he's been treated, Tarros scrounges what useful meat he can get from the corpses. "Womp rats aren't great game, but we'll take what we can."

Anders Kelborn |
"Right, do you have your medkit? I'd rather not use mine, just in case..."
Anders grabs Tarros' medkit, and begins first aid.
First Aid: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 6 + 2 = 9
"What the heck, man? What happened to you?"
Crap roll. Retrying.
Treat Injury: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 6 + 2 = 18
That's better. 4 HP recovered.
Vyr Sol'rova |
I say we follow those injured rats. If we follow them back to their nest maybe we can find more. They are bleeding so hopefully they will be easy to find. Tarros, can we follow them?
Aid another (survival): 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2
I will roll perception if we choose to find new tracks
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Vyr Sol'rova |
"Dunno if it's worth it. Womp rats aren't that great eating, and they'll fight even harder to protect their nest. I'd rather look for something bigger, and less bitey."
"Good point. Feels wrong to leave an injured animal to die somewhere else though. We can look for others."
"I will just kept that perception roll from my last post, it is a 19.Axel Stone |
"Anyone else need some healing?" Anders asks as he looks around.
"Got a few bites that need binding, but I think I'm good otherwise." says Axel, trying to ignore the throbbing of his leg. Makes me feel ALIVE, like the way no stim ever could, is what he thinks to himself in spite of the pain.

"Think I can agree with that. Maybe we could try to find a peaceful grazer-type, like space-cow or something," Axel supplies. I could go for some steaks right about now... he thinks to himself.
Anders Kelborn |
Anders shakes his head slowly as he watches Axel limp.
"Okay tough guy, let's look at that leg."

Anders prods the leg with his finger.

"Oh, suck it up you big baby," Anders mutters over any gripes Axel makes as he wraps up his comrade's wounds.
Looking at Tarros, Anders returns to the task at hand.

Axel Stone |
14hp recovered. Much obliged.
Axel winces as Anders binds the open wound. When he is finished he gingerly tests his weight on it. The binding holds and the pain is dulled. Within minutes he's ready to go again.
Survival (aid): 1d20 ⇒ 9 Really? Again?
Axel's survival instincts fail to add anything of value to the search efforts. Mainly because all Axel's survival instincts are telling him is Me Hungry. Need Food. He tries to keep his eyes open for any signs of game, while he rummages around his pack for a ration bar or something.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Unexpectedly he finds an old chocolate bar in a used sock. He unwraps it and begins munching.
Master of the Dark Forces |
As you make your way between the two mountains, you come across what looks to be a well-traveled game trail. Unfortunately, the trail is so well traveled, and as a result hard packed, it is impossible to tell what kind of animals have traveled here recently. In one direction, it leads up towards the peak of the wooded mountain, in the other direction, it leads down toward the valley. At the point you find the trail, you are midway up the slope of the wooded peak, and have a good view of the surrounding terrain, which stretches as grassland to the north, south, and east, with trees to the west.
Master of the Dark Forces |
As you make your way down the trail, after several hundred feet, you begin to see some animal droppings, mostly old and dried out, but some that look fairly fresh. At around the same point, you begin to see some claw marks in the trail. The ground is still too hard for any footprints to be visible.
Feel free to roll survival checks in order to determine what kind of animal the droppings and claw marks come from.
Vyr Sol'rova |
"Claw marks here. Taros can you tell what made these? Something more dangerous then an oversized rat I am guessing. Do these claw marks mean that this is it's territory? We are going to hunt it in it's own house? Not complaining just pointing out."
Aid another (survival): 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (14) - 1 = 13
Well I least I made the aid.
Master of the Dark Forces |
Based off of a few droppings and claw marks, it is not possible to determine what type of animal they come from. However, from the size of the droppings, it can be determined that they come from a medium sized creature, though the claw marks are too large for them to have come from any womp rats like you fought before.
Tarros Jek |
Tarros reaches an arm up to scratch behind his head.
"Hmm. Got bigger claws than a womp rat, but the fella isn't much bigger. Probably a predator of some sort. It might lead us to a hunting site, or just back to a nest. I dunno, might wanna give it a pass."
"I think I'd rather stick it out a few days and find something big and not too deadly than get eaten by some carnivore."
Master of the Dark Forces |
As you continue to make your way down into the valley, the droppings suddenly stop, several hundred feet from a medium sized clearing. After that point, the frequency of the claw marks suddenly intensifies. If you continue up to the clearing, inside, you see a small stream making its way into the clearing, leading back up the hill you have just descended. The stream of water falls into a hole in the ground, into what may be a small cave system. There is a half-devoured carcass of a Ronto in the clearing, with insects buzzing around. It looks as if it has been sitting here for several days.

"Hmmmm... I don't like this. Axel want to go check it out. Kidding, kinda. I think we found a nest."
perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Just to see if I can see anything. Vyr draws his weapons.
"Do we push forward or poll back? If this is a nest this might be to big for us."
Tarros Jek |
Tarros shrugs. "Okay. Let's follow the stream a bit, see if we can find a place animals go to water. Set up nearby and watch till something edible shows up."
Headed back upstream, looking for signs of a place where animals have been to drink - preferable lots of animals. Tarros is certainly ready to spend multiple days out here.
Vyr Sol'rova |
"Oh Crap! Nexu pack! Everyone start to fall back" Vyr starts moving back and points out where the large one is. "Axel, Anders pointed sticks that way. Tarros start talking, think we can take them and what do you know about them?" Prepared attack for one that tries to rush us.
Tarros Jek |
"Nexu? Aww bantha poodo." Tarros bites his lip. "Yeah, let's scram. One's dangerous enough, but a pack is bad news. With these weapons, a pack of womp rats was already dangerous. Let's back away slowly and see if they chase us. If they do, we should probably drop some of that womp rat meat and run."
Tarros tries to get a quick count of how many there are. Counting noving bushes and stuff if they're not in the open.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Master of the Dark Forces |
Tarros and Anders also spot the same two Nexu that Vyr has spotted. As your group backs away, the Alpha comes into the clearing and slowly starts to stalk down the trail, moving the same speed as you. After a few seconds, numerous other Nexu creep out of the grass and enter the clearing. This indeed is a nest, with no fewer than the Alpha, two female adults, and four juveniles.
Anders Kelborn |
"Fierfek. Does this count as chasing us?" Anders mutters out of the side of his mouth at Tarros.
I'm not dying here without a fight. Adners grips his spear tighter.
Back up slowly, readying an attack against the first Nexu to lunge at me or to cut off my retreat.
Vyr Sol'rova |
"I doubt they will care about some of our rat meat when there is a Ronto just over there. If they were hungry they would be eating. Just keep backing away slowly and keep your wits. Axel no charging if you want to live. We get out of their territory we live." Just keep backing away with the rest of the group.
Master of the Dark Forces |
You slowly make your way back up the trail. The large Alpha stalks you several hundred meters up the trail, before stopping and watching you. If you listen closely, you can hear the stream trickling through the tall grass a short distance to the north of the trail. Do you continue up the trail, or break from the trail to try to find the stream?
Anders Kelborn |
Anders scowls as he slips a bit on the mud of the bank.
"Man, this sucks. Why couldn't we go hunting from the back of a speeder or something?" Anders grumbles halfheartedly.

As you follow the stream towards its source, you find that it winds its way upwards towards the trees. When it enters the trees, you can hear it babbling throughout the trees, among the sound of the wind blowing through the tree branches. Around a hundred meters in, imprinted on the mud beside the stream, you find several sets of markings.
Vyr Sol'rova |
"Well, well what do we have here? Tarros, looks like some foot prints. Time to start tracking our next prey."
