Hearing that they do need help, Calatin heads down into the cellar. I put him at an advantageous position for you, but you can have your pick of any of the northwest corner squares, while still having a standard action left for the round. If he wishes, he could manage a diagonal burning hands which would miss Heward and Auriel. noticed that you have only two first levels spells per day, but he would have three: one divination from specialist, and two of any kind. Also, can you please specify which four cantrips he has prepared?

CELLAR MAP UPDATED

Up next: Calatin, Awgin, Markiv
Just to speed things up a bit, I've removed the people who have already acted or specified an action for this round. Auriel's delayed action, if it happens, won't be until after the Elementals.

Elemental 1: AC 17/t10/ff17; hp: 5/17; F+4/R-1/W+3
Elemental 3: AC 17/t10/ff17; hp: 17/17; F+4/R-1/W+3

Edit: Thank you! I was about to make that edit after I pasted, and got distracted by an e-mail.

I believe Elemental 1 is actually at 5/17 hit points after Awgin's hit.

Trying something new, an expansion on my new system of including the enemies' stats in the posts...also, a chance for everybody to make sure I have your stats right...

Continue to attack the elemental.

If it goes down, move closer to the other one.

M Human Wizard (Divination School Specialist)/2

Thank you...

Calatin raises his hands, fingers outspread and thumbs touching.

"Dwylo Llosgi - taflenni o fflamau," he cries as a sheet of flame springs forth (as in, casting burning hands)

Acutely uncomfortable, Calatin is anything but a combat mage, but he's doing his best to recall what he learned in the mandatory classes...

Feel free to roll damage and its Fortitude save...

M Human Wizard (Divination School Specialist)/2

Ooops... sorry!

Burning hands damage: 1d4 ⇒ 2

Fortitude save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20

(Or is it Reflex? That's what the spell description calls for, Reflex save for half damage, which would be 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0)

Oops, silly me! I guess we can let that nice Reflex save stand instead of that unnecessary Fortitude one.

Flames wash over the elemental, and some dried dust falls off it.
Awgin's attack is unsuccessful.

Up next: Markiv (hopefully he's back), Laya, Elementals,Calatin
If Scipion is back, Markiv will probably make an attack on Elemental 1, for those planning their actions.

Moving along...

Markiv slashes at Elemental 1. 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20; damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 The elemental crumbles into pieces as Markiv's celestial claws rip through it like loose soil. Even as it vanishes in smoke, the fused warrior steps smoothly up to the remaining elemental and swipes again.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22; damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5 Bits of rock and debris go flying.

"Uhnnng."

Female Halfling Bard (Archivist) 1

Round 4:
Laya leans over Heward. She touches her holy symbol and says, "Not yet." Converting shield of faith to cure light wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

She then moves back a bit beside Calatin. 5-ft step to K 32.

Magical energy fills Heward, staving off his visit to the Boneyard.

The elemental, its task accomplished with the destruction of the support pillar, turns to pound on Markiv. Although small in size, it easily glides up the pile of rubble to stand eye to eye with the summoner. It rears back its stony fist, ready to pulverize Markiv's skull...

when it vanishes in a puff of smoke!

Calatin:
Frantic feelings of fear and urgency flood Calatin through the bond from Tylluan.

I'm still technically tracking rounds' worth of actions, as there are other things happening and I need to know where people are, etc. However, in the interest of speeding things up, I'm going to dispense with sequential actions until you find some more enemies to fight. Heward is at 4 out of 14 hp!

Secret GM roll:
1d3 ⇒ 3

Female Human (Chelaxian) Bard (street performer) 2

Her knees buckling with relief, Auriel gasps, "Oh, thank ...." The sincerely grateful but irreligious girl doesn't have a name to fill in the blank. Abadar, whom her parents venerate, didn't seem to have much to do with this situation. "Laya, what deity do you worship?"

Female Halfling Bard (Archivist) 1

"All of them," Laya replies. "Well, not the bad ones. But Pharasma is my patron."

She looks at the pulverized remains of the support pillar. "I think it would be a good idea if we all got out of here now."

Female Human (Chelaxian) Bard (street performer) 2

Pharasma...? Didn't she have to do with births and deaths? Well, those things' vanishing prevented some deaths. That'd do, she shrugs. She dashes from the vault up the stairs. "We have to get someone up here to brace up this shop. It could still slide over the edge," she calls as she climbs. "That dwarf lady with the city you guys talked to ... could she muster some emergency engineers?"

Heward subsides as pain-induced tensions flows out of him. Experimentally he reaches out with an arm, then rolls onto one knee. "Thanks, Laya." He quickly examines the room. The lack of elementals. The lack of a central pillar.

He grabs his halberd. Using it as a prop, he stands then doubles over slightly. "Oof. I guess I'm not quite good as new yet." He straightens up more slowly.

"You're right. Let's get out of here. Everyone , go."

Heward will wait to be last out of the cellar.

"She might be able to," Laya says, "if we can get to her in time."

Once she sees that Heward is on his feet, she hurries up the stairs after Auriel. "She's probably asleep right now."

"Dwarves are nocturnal, right? All that living in the dark underground? I think she'd rather be woken up in the middle of the night than have a nice lie-in and get to the office to discover half of Lowcleft was smashed while she was having her beauty sleep."

Female Halfling Bard (Archivist) 1

"I'm not saying don't wake her. I'm just pointing out one potential obstacle to getting her back here in time."

Laya, Auriel, Calatin, Awgin, Markiv. We're all down here.

"Awgin, did you catch him?" Heward asks without much hope as he gestures for the others to proceed him up the stairs.

Female Human (Chelaxian) Bard (street performer) 2

Auriel shakes her head in bewilderment at Awgin's query. "I never saw him, and I was on that back porch all night. I don't know how the door got unlocked, either; Rimblesnuffin said it was arcane locked. It doesn't make any sense."

"No I didn't. Something rushed past me as I came down, but I wasn't able to catch it." Awgin hurries back up the stairs.

"Calatin, Markiv," Heward jerks his head in the direction of the stairs.

M Human Wizard (Divination School Specialist)/2

Calatin offers to assist Heward up the stairs - "You don't look too steady..." he comments, rather absently... his mind is reaching out to Tylluan.

What's up, bird? he inquires.

"I got it. Go before I push you up the stairs."

Female Human (Chelaxian) Bard (street performer) 2

I think we can assume Markiv will do as Heward asks and go up the stairs. Scipion's been scarce lately.

Agreed. Hopefully everything is okay.

As Heward reaches the top of the stairs, but before most of you exit the building, you hear the sound of pounding resume, this time from the front of the building, and street level. With each crash of rock against rock, the building leans a little closer to the cliff edge. The crashes are coming in sets of three.

Female Human (Chelaxian) Bard (street performer) 2

Auriel's eyes open wide in alarm as the pounding resumes, then fill with tears as she runs out the back door and around the shop. "Damn you! Damn you!" she sobs. "You have the damned necklace; you don't need to kill people!"

Auriel:

Auriel speeds around the building. She catches a glimpse of three earth elementals charging the building, slamming into it with their shoulders before movement from shop's shadows catches her eye. A screech from Tylluan flying overhead, and a snake, five-feet long lashes out at Auriel with its tail.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Damage: 1d6 + 2 + 1d6 ⇒ (5) + 2 + (3) = 10
Auriel feels pain from the slap before an added jolt of electricity courses through her entire body, and she goes limp. Her last visual image as darkness closes in is the enormous snake wrapping its length around her body.
Now I owe you and Heward some payback against this guy!

Hearing the pounding resume, Auriel rushes blindly ahead. As you follow, you see her round the corner. A quick flash of light and a crackling hum follow, and you hear the sick sound of a body hitting cobblestones.

Calatin:
Sadness tinges the empathic bond between Calatin and his familiar.

Reaching the top of the stairs, Heward tries the door that leads through the building to the front door.

I suppose the front door is open from the inside and I can go straight out?

The door to the storefront from the private residence part of the building is locked. Smash/lockpick attempt, or just go around?

Go around.

Finding the inner door locked, Heward follows his companions out the back.

If they all round the house one way, he'll go the other.

After seeing the flash and hearing the hum and thud, Heward redoubles his pace toward the front of the building. Upon reaching the front he looks both ways down the street for any sign of the summoner.

Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

Female Halfling Bard (Archivist) 1

Laya rushes around to the front, calling, "Auriel! Auriel! Are you all right?"

Heward and Laya clear the corner of the building to see Auriel lying on the cobblestones, a 5-foot long snake with electricity dancing between its fangs has its body wrapped around the young woman. The snake looks at Heward, and says, "Hold, Watchmen! The girl livessss, and my masssster wishessss her no perssssonal ill will. I can kill her in an inssstant if you try anything, however. My massster merely wishesss to flee with hissss prize. If you allow him to esssscape, I will releassse the girl and call off the elementalssss. You may choosssse, Watchmen. Will her death be on your handssss?"

UPSTAIRS MAP UPDATED

Female Halfling Bard (Archivist) 1

"Not today, not yet," Laya says, stepping up to the snake-creature. She holds out her hands to show that she is unarmed. "Please just put her down. We mean you no harm." She reaches out to the snake.

Gentle touch: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (2) + 0 = 2 touch attack
Creature is staggered for 1 round if hit.
Yeah, that really isn't going to hit. Blast.

The snake bites at her outstretched hand.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (5) + 6 - 2 = 9
"Ssssstay back from me! No more warningsssss!"

Female Halfling Bard (Archivist) 1

"I can't let you knock this building over and kill countless innocents below," Laya says, a slight tear in her eye. "Auriel is only one person; they are many. Put her down now and cease your attack on the building or we will use deadly force. That is your last warning."

I thought we were still in combat.
Awgin doesn't stop moving until he gets in range of the electric snake (C3). "The Captain said to bring your master in and that's just what I'm going to do."

Flail:
to hit 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18 damage 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

Female Human (Chelaxian) Bard (street performer) 2

If Auriel and countless innocents in Lowcleft die, she's so going to haunt Awgin. ;)

M Human Wizard (Divination School Specialist)/2

"Your actions, Snake, are your own responsibility and you will bear the consequences of your choices. As will your master in his turn. Release the girl and withdraw the elementals at once!" says Calatin striding forwards with all the gravitas only the portly can muster.

He steps forwards to take Auriel, with the command presence that gives the impression that he expects that he's going to get what he wants.

The snake laughs at them all. "You cannot hurt me, foolssss. If I die today, I am reborn tomorrow. Your friend issss not ssssso lucky."

The snake winces as Awgin's flail hits it, and it starts to squeeze Auriel, when the building begins a slow, tiltly lean towards the cliff. The snake laughs. "Let hundredssss of people die today for good to follow me ssssso I can die for a day, or sssstop that. Your choice, Watchmen!"

The snake laughs as it unwinds itself from Auriel and slithers off to the southwest. It barks an order in that same language you heard earlier from the man's voice, and the elementals glide into the cobblestones and disappear.

Female Halfling Bard (Archivist) 1

Can those of us right up beside the snake get an AoO as it tries to slither away? I haven't used up the charge on my gentle touch yet.

Laya wrote:

Sure thing.

Heward stands helpless at the sight of Auriel held hostage.

EDIT: truncated to see result of Laya's attack.

AoO:
to hit 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20 damage 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Awgin chases after the snake.

Female Halfling Bard (Archivist) 1

Gentle touch: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (18) + 0 = 18 touch attack
Staggered for one round (or 3 rounds in the extremely unlikely event this is an undead eidolon).

Awgin's second blow lends as tellingly as his first, and the snake hisses. It turns to strike at Awgin as Laya reaches up and touches it. The eidolon seems to rock back and look slightly disoriented before it lashes at Awgin with its tail.

Tail slap: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Damage: 1d8 + 2 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + 2 + (1) = 4
Grapple attempt: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11

The eidolon whacks Awgin and he feels a jolt from the eidolon's natural static charge, although the injury seems relatively minor.

Up next: Anybody else who wants to take a pot shot at the snake. No map or initiative here, just beat on the thing to your heart's content. As it was retreating, however, the gloves are off and the thing is capable of doing 32 points of damage in one hit without any criticals.

Oh, and the building is in the process of starting a slow lean towards the cliff. As it continues to lean, however, it will start to pick up speed...

Why didn't you tell me that before I declared my attack and intent to chase?

M Human Wizard (Divination School Specialist)/2

Calatin concentrates on getting Auriel to safety.

Female Halfling Bard (Archivist) 1

Laya casts stabilize on Auriel then turns to look at the shop. "We have to stop it falling! Does anyone have any ideas? Quick!" She looks almost panic-stricken.
