Grigory takes out his bow and nocks an arrow as he strains to follow the sound of the footsteps.

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14

Fearful of losing their quarry hunting by sound alone, he fires in the direction of the footsteps -- hoping against the odds to strike the invisible foe and at least give himself a blood trail to follow.

Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18

Krojun turns to the blinded elf: "Do you have any idea about what Eudonius and Grigory are doing?"

Male Elf Rogue/1

"I believe that they may be hunting for the final Varsian. Possibly its the witch who blinded me or one of her accomplices. I'm not going anywhere, so feel free to aid them if you're up to it.

Dubline said with a set jaw, determined that his rising ire and panic wasn't going to get the better of him, as he tried to adjust to his predicament.

Male Human (Shoanti/Varisian) Fighter/1

"If you're sure, it's all right." Krojun says before he turns around and head after Grigory and Eudonius sword drawn ready to strike if necessary.

Male Elf Rogue/1

As Krojun sped off, Dublaine, finally found wall against which he could lean and whispered to himself, "Nobody's gonna waste an arrow on a blind elf, my friend! Good speed."

Grigory fires off an arrow blindly to where he thinks his quarry might be. The arrow flies through the air until it lands, skipping along the cobbles.

By the time Eudonius and Krojun arrive at his position, the footsteps have faded away.

Male Human (Shoanti/Varisian) Fighter/1

"Who are we following and where did he go?" Krojun asks, a little short of breath as he catches up with the others.

The spellcaster women. But I think she got away. the half orc wisper. Lets get back to the store, we need to call the rest of the watch.

And a priest, we will need a priest for Trace. he thinks with melancholy.

Waiting for the tracker opinion he looks at the ustalavian.
Grigory?

"Someone should secure the other unconscious Varisian. I doubt the guy Krojun took care of will be much help to us," Grigory smirks. "Got what was coming to him anyway as far as I'm concerned. Maybe we can have the Watch take the other two back to our headquarters and lock them up. Hopefully they can be convinced to cooperate with our questions when they come to."

"I'm going to see if I can find any tracks to follow, but I'm not liking my chances... Especially in the dark. Any idea where she might be headed? Could she be reporting back to the uncooperative Lord Millis, perhaps?"

"Still don't know what the hell Trace was trying to accomplish launching herself off the cliff," he mutters as he turns to examine the street for a trail.

Male Human (Shoanti/Varisian) Fighter/1

"Lets do that" Krojun responds to Eudonius' suggestion.

He shakes his head as he listens to Grigory. Why wouldn't they just surrender? he contemplates. "I have no idea, but I doubt he would tell us if you're right. I'll take the two, they might behave now that they have seen we're serious. How are we going to help Dublaine? Oh.. Do we know how Lady Trace is doing, better go find her, did she really jump?"

We need to talk to Rimblesnuffin.

And after a few moments of thought.
Also call someone from the Office of City Planners to look at his shop. The building took a severe structural beating, it maybe at risk of collapsing. We can do that tomorrow I guess...* The half orc frame seems to shrink. His face return to a more human-like resemblance while the blackness of his eyes recede to the regular white. His legs fail him and he drops prone on his knees breathing heavily.

Inhaling deeply Eudonius gets back up on his feet even if still a bit shaky. And there it goes my elixir of fortitude. Damn I assumed it would last longer. he mumbles to himself.
Back to the lab's table I suppose... losing himself in thought.

After a couple of seconds he seems to get startle by the presence of the two humans standing beside him.

You are right Officer Krojun. Lets get back to the coffee shop. We will leave Dublaine there for now, talk to the gnome and go looking for Trace.

As you approach the coffee shop, the front door opens and Mr. Copperhill comes out, holding a loaded crossbow. He looks at you with exhilaration on his face.

"Did we get them all?" he asks breathlessly.

Most of them. Its safe now.
Turning to Krojun.
We need to secure the other prisioners, do you have a rope or another pair of manacles officer?

Male Human (Shoanti/Varisian) Fighter/1

"Not with me," he responds. "We could march them in," Krojun contemplates: "But we need to be more than one to do that."

"I can't find any tracks to follow in this light," Grigory tells the others after retrieving his wayward arrow. "Looks like the witch got away."

"Am I the only one who brought manacles?" he asks, seeing the second Varisian still unsecured. "We can cuff them together, I suppose. I've still got my escape rope to gather. And Dublaine's, too. He doesn't seem to be in much condition for untying knots until we figure out how to get the poor fellow his sight back."

Male Human (Shoanti/Varisian) Fighter/1

"Perhaps I know a healer, I'm not sure." Krojun says. Holding his breath a bit he continues: "Shouldn't we go look for Lady Trace?"

Alchemist 1, HP 11/11, CMD 15, AC16 / T12 / FF14, F +4, R +4, W +0, Init +6, Perc +5

Yes, can you secure the second one with the ropes Mr Reinhold? We will help out and then look for Lady Trace. We can bring everybody inside the coffee shop for now. We will come back with the carriage to bring everybody to the barracks.

"If one of you can drag this fellow over to the coffee shop, I'll retrieve the ropes and the imbecile I left cuffed to Rimblesnuffin's railing and meet you there to cuff them together and tie them up. Let's hope they're worth the trouble of keeping them alive." Grigory says as he grabs a lantern and heads to the back of the gnome's shop to retrieve his rope and the prisoner.

It's easy enough to drag your unconscious prisoners into the coffee shop. As you do so, two strong men arrive, who identify themselves as security men with Guards and Wards. They are friendly enough once they see your badges, though not particularly bright (and you're pretty sure the dumber one has recently been crying). They work to secure the building, quickly searching it to confirm that it's empty.

With your prisoners secured, you wish to make your way down to search for Trace? It would be fastest to get your carriage and take it down to the Shore District.

Male Elf Rogue/1

As the activity buzzes around Dublaine, he remains quiet. Trying not to be sullen about his turn of fate and stoic in the face of misfortune, he listened as best he could to discern what was going on.

When opportunity came to speak up he simply said, "Go look for lady Trace..."

if the cop shop is on the way then please feel free to drop me off, maybe then we can expedite matters to either get me a new character or get my blindness sorted...if not then I'd better not get in the way..

F Human Rog1

Don't tell you would let a little old thing like blindness stop your character. I thought he was an above average heroic like person, like all the other PCs :)

All you have to do is learn how to deal with being blind, like compensating with your other senses. Don't know about rule wise but realisticly your penalties to perception for blindness would lessen to half within a week, they did studies on taking sighted people and blinding them (not permanently of course), it didn't take but a day for them to start using their other senses for more efficiently then they ever had before.

Look at this as a roleplaying challange, besides only a few levels to go before you can afford to get it fixed anyway.

To true, thanks.

Male Human (Shoanti/Varisian) Fighter/1

"I know it isn't the most pleasant thought, but where would Lady trace had landed and what is the fastest way to get there?" Krojun asks. "Should we take the prisoners and Dublaine to the station before we search?"

Alchemist 1, HP 11/11, CMD 15, AC16 / T12 / FF14, F +4, R +4, W +0, Init +6, Perc +5

It appears that way. We move to station, drop the prisioners and Dublaine and get our carriage. If that is alright with everyone maybe we could fast forward the details...

Male Elf Rogue/1

In terms of fast forwarding Nazard can you advise me? Is getting rid of my affliction going to be a hand wave or might I just roll up another character to stay up with the action?
I'd rather get on with playing, having blindness is fine and I can RP that, but within a PBEM its a nightmare waiting for weeks before you finally get to jump back into the action.
So would appreciate what's to do, as I can rp being at the station, but otherwise I'd rather not be out of the action, if at all possible.

Dublaine's blindness will be cured in-game as soon as the group reports, so don't worry about it. The City Watch won't be raising any of you (yet), but they will pay for condition removal, disease curing, poison neutralizing, etc.

Alchemist 1, HP 11/11, CMD 15, AC16 / T12 / FF14, F +4, R +4, W +0, Init +6, Perc +5

DM Nazard do you need us to rp getting to the station, securing the prisioners and taking our carriage out to look for Trace or can we fast forward it? I am assuming we will only make our reports in the morning....

Male Elf Rogue/1

What a relief

We can fast forward a bit. You have cells in the basement to lock up your prisoners, and Dublaine can hang out in his room, while the rest engage in a fruitless search for Trace's body. With the warren-like nature of Lowcleft, the chances that she would have landed in a street are quite remote. If you want to try banging on random doors, I'll need some Diplomacy checks, though I can save us all some time by saying you aren't going to find her.

Male Elf Rogue/1

No Trace, of the Lady...opps (sorry!).

Dublaine, felt the scratchy straw of his pallet, smelled the familiar smells of the room about him and heard its distinct sounds. All of which flooded in, freed from the sight that bound them together and made greater sense of them.

He thought hard against his anger, the sense of being so vulnerable, such a curse in his past life, hung about him. He had friends, a term he was still struggling to get used to. People who didn't take advantage of his condition but actually helped him. Part of him felt proud, an odd feeling for one having been used to living for himself, trusting no one and nothing. His experience in this city was one that constantly surprised and delighted him. But always he waited for the other shoe to drop, the rug to be pulled from under him. Well know it had, but even in this, he was surprised that instead of his throat being slit and his cadaver sold to some unscrupulous mage, he was back here. In his familiar cell. He sat down, his hands grasping not a blade, but a book. He'd come here not to break the law but defend it and now he finally saw why it was worth defending as well as those, who like him, were left vulnerable without it.

After a long fruitless search an exhausted Eudonius leans against a wall. The weight of the long night slowing his reactions.
She is not here... Her body must have got stuck in one of the rofftops.
After a few moments.
Lets get back... We can send the City Watch tomorrow during the daytime to do a carefull search. he says.

"I agree. At least we salvaged Rimblesnuffin's shop and got a little more information. If those two prisoners can tell us anything we should be in better shape than we started the night."

"Shame to trade a squad member for a couple prisoners and an antique store, but I surely didn't expect her to take a flying leap off that cliff. Maybe she had a trick up her sleeve none of us knew about, but I'm not getting my hopes up that she survived that fall."

It's the wee hours of the morning, closer to dawn than you'd like, when you arrive back at HQ, dejected, and exhausted. You only get a few hours sleep, before the smell of breakfast and a polite knocking on your doors awakens you.

Alchemist 1, HP 11/11, CMD 15, AC16 / T12 / FF14, F +4, R +4, W +0, Init +6, Perc +5

The few hours of sleep went by in a moment. For Eudonius it was like he just closed his eyes. His body felt as defeated as himself.

Gathering his belongings and the half orc answered the door with tiredness in his voice.
Good morning Mrs Brigglespan, thank you for waking me up. Did you found the note that I left in your desk? We need to talk to Cpt. Percival as soon as possible, its an emergency.

Male Elf Rogue/1

Dublaine, followed the smell of cooking. Knowing the others had been out till late, he went feeling his way eager for news to the mess hall.

"Indeed I did. That's why I woke you all. Captain Percival is here to break his fast as well, and get his report."

Grand Lodge

Male Half-Orc Ranger 1| HP: 12/12 | AC: 16, Touch: 12, Flat: 14 | Saves - Fort.: 3, Ref.: 4, Will: 1 | Percept.: +6 | Initiative: +4

Grigory eases himself out of bed, not looking forward to the imminent meeting with the Captain. Their foray in surveillance the previous night had yielded little -- another stolen Enjoiner fragment, a pair of captured Varisian lackeys, a missing or worse comrade, and a name: Veristan.

Feeling a bit overmatched by the invisible enemies that had eluded the group, Grigory gingerly nibbles on some breakfast as he steels himself to contribute to the group's report.

Male Human (Shoanti/Varisian) Fighter/1

Only one thought is in Krojun's mind as he drags himself to bed: It's to early to begin loosing men.

As the knocking wakes him a few hours later, he literally drags himself out of bed. Every part of his body aching from the fight yesterday even though he was healed.

He mumbles what resembles a greeting and opens the door still dressed in the clothes he slept in.

"Morning Mrs. Brigglespan, why so early?"

"Captain Percival is here for a briefing on the events of last night," Mrs. Brigglespan replies.

Grand Lodge

Male Half-Orc Ranger 1| HP: 12/12 | AC: 16, Touch: 12, Flat: 14 | Saves - Fort.: 3, Ref.: 4, Will: 1 | Percept.: +6 | Initiative: +4

Sensing his squadmates are equally apprehensive about delivering a report of the night's failures to the Captain, Grigory begins with the best news he can muster.

"Morning, Captain. We weren't entirely successful, but we managed to prevent at least one targeted building from collapsing. The owner is safe and we've managed to uncover the name of our burglar. He's a summoner, goes by the name of Veristan. His summons were quite a handful to say the least, but unfortunately the summoner himself gave us the slip. We've also got two prisoners downstairs for questioning." Grigory says, ignoring Lady Trace's absence until the Captain brings it up and waiting for his comrades to chime in.

Captain Percival listens intently, asking how you tracked down Veristan's next target, and if you think Lord Millis is in danger of being next. He pries you for details on Veristan's capabilities, too.

After awhile, he asks annoyedly, "Will Lady Trace not be joining us, or is she catching up on her sleep?"

Grand Lodge

Male Half-Orc Ranger 1| HP: 12/12 | AC: 16, Touch: 12, Flat: 14 | Saves - Fort.: 3, Ref.: 4, Will: 1 | Percept.: +6 | Initiative: +4

"Lady Trace was, well, a bit overly-enthusiastic about following the summoner on his descent to Lowcleft. We searched for her at the base of the cliff, but found no trace of her -- no pun intended."

"A Varisian woman, a witch or gypsy of some sort by my estimation, appeared in the street just after Veristan and Lady Trace leaped off the edge. She was shouting something about Veristan double-crossing her. The two prisoners in the basement were among her henchmen, hopefully they can tell us more about the arrangement Veristan breached and who was ultimately supposed to get the Enjoiner fragments."

"Both Veristan and the Varisian witch have some power of invisibility for which we were woefully unprepared. As for Lord Millis, he claims to possess one of the remaining Enjoiner fragments, so he would be the next logical target. By my count, Veristan has at least three of the five fragments. I suppose today we'll have to head to House Hynter to see what we can learn of the unaccounted-for fragment."

From his treatment of Dr. Lynch and Lady Trace when they visited his manor, however, I wouldn't exclude Lord Millis from suspicion. Perhaps this Veristan found a more lucrative offer for the Enjoiner fragments, and Lord Millis certainly seems to have the financial means to make such an offer for such a powerful artifact.

Alchemist 1, HP 11/11, CMD 15, AC16 / T12 / FF14, F +4, R +4, W +0, Init +6, Perc +5

Fumbling for words Eudonius complements Grigory explanation. Th th they were feather falling to lowcleft. Trace was grappling with the summoner and he pushed her off. We saw she fall to her death. the half orc says while looking to his boots.
We spend hours looking for her down there without finding nothing. I think her body is stuck in one of the roofs. We would like to ask the City Watch to do a full search now at day time. It should be easier to find with the smell and the vultures... the doctor voice dies in his throut, unable to speak he takes a deep breath.

I will wait for some aswers before continuing.

Grand Lodge

Male Half-Orc Ranger 1| HP: 12/12 | AC: 16, Touch: 12, Flat: 14 | Saves - Fort.: 3, Ref.: 4, Will: 1 | Percept.: +6 | Initiative: +4

The last I saw of Trace, she had landed on the summoner and he called on some eagles to peck at her as they floated down the cliff," Grigory says. "I never saw her fall off the guy's back, but you've got better night vision than I, Doc, so I'll take your word for it. I'm holding out hope she somehow survived, even if that means she's the summoner's prisoner."

"I see," Percival says gravely. "A thorough search will be made. No officer of the City Watch...will be left to that. Ever. Nor will one be allowed to remain blinded, Mr. Dublaine."

He pulls a notebook out of his pocket, writes something on a page and tears it out, folding it and laying it on the table. "The City Watch has a standing arrangement with the Church of Abadar here in Magnimar for such services. Take that writ to the temple and they'll take care of you."

"I sense that you're all feeling a bit beat down, it's understandable, but misplaced. From what I can see, in one day, you identified your perpetrator, tracked him, fought with him, found him to be far more powerful than you had any reason to believe, still managed to fight him off, gather crucial intelligence on his capabilities and plans, and prevent hundreds of deaths in Lowcleft from a falling building. Next time you encounter him, you'll be prepared for his invisibility and elemental summoning, and I'm confident that you'll defeat him."

He stands up, pushing his chair back. "I am sorry for the loss of your friend and comrade. That kind of loss hurts, even when you've only known each other for a day. A proper memorial will be arranged, but for now, you have a monster to catch. I will pave the way with Lord Millis to be more forthcoming and receptive. If he is responsible for all this, nothing I can say or do will help you, but if he's just an innocent buffoon (well, innocent of this at least), perhaps it will be enough to get you in the door. The man is arrogant and proud (most nobles are), and he is one of the most powerful men in the city, so tread carefully."

"You're all doing well. I chose well when I picked you. Now chin up and kill the bastard for Lady Trace."

Also, somebody from the City Planners Office should inspect the gnome's shop. That building took quite a beating. he says absent minded.

I agree with Mr Reilhold. Lord Milles is probably the next target. If the summoner keeps up the pace maybe even tonight. Now that we know his identity Krojun maybe be able to learn more with his contacts among the shoanti comunity.

As his mind starts to work again Eudonius seems to get in a better mood. We still have to find a way to neutralize our foes invisibility. I can think of some mundane solutions but some potions of see invisibility would be life savers. Would the city be able to provide them Sir? I also have a list of some mundane itens, maybe Mrs Brigglespan could see to them...
