Discussion thread for MSI Rookie Squad One

Male Gnome Archaeologist Bard 1; AC 16, flat-footed 14, touch 13; HP 10/10; Init +2; Fort +2, Ref +4, Will +3; Perception +7

Here! Here! :D

So, I also got the invite to the Google site (had to create an account first).

So, we won't be doing much there until after we've started the game, correct?

Marathon Voter 2013, Dedicated Voter 2014, Star Voter 2015

I will change some pages out, and add some for keeping track of clues, etc. it'll take me awhile, though, so for now, it's a placeholder site.. I also have to give everybody administrator status so you can edit pages yourselves.

Male Gnome Archaeologist Bard 1; AC 16, flat-footed 14, touch 13; HP 10/10; Init +2; Fort +2, Ref +4, Will +3; Perception +7

Good show!

BTW: I just set Rasil as my Default Messageboard Alias, so that accidentally posting as Weren Wu Jen will be less likely! :D

Male Elf Wizard 1

I just wanted to throw out that I'm currently in Afghanistan so I'm 8 1/2 hours ahead of EST with the recent time change. What does this mean to you? I'm normally sleeping during your average day and am active in your late evenings and afternoons. Just a heads up, I know you'll be wondering why I post at such odd hours.

Female Human (Varisian) Oracle of Life (Seer) 1

I'm an Australian here who works nightshifts, so there's not always going to be a set time when I'm on :) Timezone is GMT +10 though, which is usually 14 hours ahead of America EST I think. I will also be unavailable for about 12 hours on Saturday as that is when I play in RL :) Usually am on in the evenings for a couple hours however (which would be early mornings for Americans I think)

Nice to meet you all and hope we can have fun.

Simza Caumlo, AKA Peanuts

Male Elf Wizard 1

I would just like to say that I love the diversity of the party. A gnome, dwarf, elf and human as it currently stands. At that, we fill the traditional roles of a party as well.

Female Human (Varisian) Oracle of Life (Seer) 1

True, although Oracle is not quite the same as a Cleric :) Looking forward to it.

Male Elf Wizard 1

An Oracle is still a Divine spellcaster. Its like me -- no matter if I were a Sorcerer or a Wizard, I'm still fitting the Arcane spellcaster role.

Female Human (Varisian) Oracle of Life (Seer) 1

Mmm, not quite the archetypal party though, but yeah all the normal bases covered :)

Male Elf Wizard 1

I have full confidence that mechanically, we'll be fine. I look forward to seeing the personalities come out during play and quite frankly, if our half-elf doesn't make it I personally feel the party will be fine. However, if the GM feels the need to add a fifth party member I'll concede to his wisdom. Lets just hope our friend shows up sometime soon if anything, however.

Male Gnome Archaeologist Bard 1; AC 16, flat-footed 14, touch 13; HP 10/10; Init +2; Fort +2, Ref +4, Will +3; Perception +7

Greetings All!

I'm in Colorado, so I'm Mountain Time (though currently on Daylight Savings Time--ugh! They should get rid of that!)!

As far as when I can post, that varies, but I'll try to check in whenever I can.

Marathon Voter 2013, Dedicated Voter 2014, Star Voter 2015

I said it somewhere else, but no idea where. The adventure/case as written has a minimum level of difficulty pre-determined. If the villain is too low of level, he or she wouldn't be able to perfom the nefarious deed in the first place. Therefore, I can only drop the villain one level (and that villain at its current level nearly TPK'd a group of six PCs, so I'm quite reluctant to try it with a party of four). Plus, having five or six gives you a few more options in splitting up the party, if you choose to do that. The conventional wisdom of never split up the party doesn't hold quite as true in this game as more traditional dungeon crawls.

Male Elf Wizard 1

One of my favorite stories of "splitting the party" was when a total of seven players, two players took off and stumbled upon the next leg of the adventure. Unfortunately, that involved a combat that nearly killed both characters (and if I recall, one character actually died) and the whole time we were biting our fingernails, nervous as hell as we were waiting for the dreaded roll of the dice that would signal their demise. It was nerve wracking but luck played out in their favor and the didn't die.

Female Human (Varisian) Oracle of Life (Seer) 1

Hmm, well I guess we await a new member then?

Male Elf Wizard 1

That we do.

Male Elf Wizard 1

That was meant to be a private message to the GM for being added to his Goggle Docs for the campaign, sorry about posting that publicly.

Male Gnome Archaeologist Bard 1; AC 16, flat-footed 14, touch 13; HP 10/10; Init +2; Fort +2, Ref +4, Will +3; Perception +7

So, we're still waiting on our fifth player, right?

Marathon Voter 2013, Dedicated Voter 2014, Star Voter 2015

Yes, I had a person who had expressed interest submit a character; unfortunately, that person submitted a diviner wizard like Issceran, so I had to ask him to submit something else, and I haven't heard back yet.

I am sorry for the delay, but I can say from experience that it's far better to get a strongly-committed group of players from the onset before starting, than having to fold new people in and switch out people who drop away.

This is probably the last chance for quite some time to get to know the other PCs, so make the most of it. Once we start, it'll go like crazy! :)

Male Gnome Archaeologist Bard 1; AC 16, flat-footed 14, touch 13; HP 10/10; Init +2; Fort +2, Ref +4, Will +3; Perception +7

Thanks for the info! :)

Male Elf Wizard 1

Unfortunately, I feel that Issceran has said enough already being the chatterbox that he is.

Female Human (Varisian) Oracle of Life (Seer) 1

The waiting... The Waiting! :p

Male Elf Wizard 1

Indeed...

Marathon Voter 2013, Dedicated Voter 2014, Star Voter 2015

So in this room, we have: Rasil, Barin, Issceran, and Simza accounted for so far. We can attempt to start with four and possibly recruit a few more en route, or just try the adventure with four. It would definitely make the final encounter one of epic difficulty, even with me reducing the power of the villain slightly, but doable. I don't want to wait any longer, though, so I'd like to get the game going tomorrow sometime.

Male Elf Wizard 1

I'm willing to play the game with four players. Why?

1. Four players meaning less people we have to wait on to post.
2. Our four players cover the basic roles of a party: arcane, divine, skill, combat.

I think we're fine. Just tailor the campaign more towards four characters and I think we'll be fine.

Female Human (Varisian) Oracle of Life (Seer) 1

He has said he'll have difficulty reducing the power level too much however. If you want I could try and run a second character, I have mostly statted up Simza's brother as an Oracle of Battle that I could finish up and post. He's basically raised her since she was 12 so I could definitely see him joining her in the watch to keep an eye on her :)

Marathon Voter 2013, Dedicated Voter 2014, Star Voter 2015

Thanks folks, but a fifth and final player will be joining shortly. I think from reading his bio, it's safe to say that he's simply late, rather than sitting quietly in the corner, too. :)

Expect this game to start in about three hours.

Male Elf Wizard 1

What might this mystery man be...?

Marathon Voter 2013, Dedicated Voter 2014, Star Voter 2015

He's another fighter, but different in style and flavour than Barin.

Male Gnome Archaeologist Bard 1; AC 16, flat-footed 14, touch 13; HP 10/10; Init +2; Fort +2, Ref +4, Will +3; Perception +7

Excellent! :D

Male Elf Wizard 1

Different in flavor? Does he taste like chicken?

Don't we all?

Male Gnome Archaeologist Bard 1; AC 16, flat-footed 14, touch 13; HP 10/10; Init +2; Fort +2, Ref +4, Will +3; Perception +7

Nope. Gnomes taste like Skittles. "Taste the rainbow!" :P

Male Gnome Archaeologist Bard 1; AC 16, flat-footed 14, touch 13; HP 10/10; Init +2; Fort +2, Ref +4, Will +3; Perception +7

@ Minkers (aka Vic Audalan) - Glad you could join us! This promises to be quite fun! :D

Also, it's quite nice to have two warriors in the group (as our magical portion is kinda on the low-Str side)!

Female Human (Varisian) Oracle of Life (Seer) 1

Yes, both the full casters are a bit on the frail side :p Glad you could join us and good to get started :)

Male Elf Wizard 1

To be fair, I reduced by DEX from 16 to 14. In doing so, I raised my CHA to 12 and CON to 9. I'm slightly less frail than Simza.

Female Human (Varisian) Oracle of Life (Seer) 1

Heh, slightly :p

Male Elf Wizard 1

I think Issceran will remain as a Divine (Scryer) Wizard for the rest of his days. I do not like to multiclass at all.

Female Human (Varisian) Oracle of Life (Seer) 1

Well it's a Prestige Class, but okay :D I statted one up once, they have some cool abilities.

Male Elf Wizard 1

I seldom like prestige classes. :(

Male Elf Wizard 1

I agree with Vic IC, the five characters need to enjoy a good drink and meal when the plot settles down. This brings up a question: how will time be managed? I would think time is a very important factor in this sort of game.

Marathon Voter 2013, Dedicated Voter 2014, Star Voter 2015

Time is very important, indeed. There will be some cases where you are racing against the proverbial clock, and others a little more relaxed. Even in relaxed cases, however, there's a timeline for the bad guys fixed in place, and stuff happens at the proscribed times unless the party does something to foil or alter those timelines.

Once we really get going, I'll be doing my best to preface each post with a header that looks like this:

Issceran & Simza - West Naos Market - District B - 14h28 - Rova 3, 4710 AR

Won't happen all the time when I have to post in a hurry or from my phone, but most of the time I get it up there.

The current header would look like this:

Everybody - MSI Headquarters - District C - 9h26 - Rova 3, 4710 AR

A map of the HQ as well as Magnimar City itself is up on the campaign site. If you want a peek, you gotta give me your e-mail address! :)

Male Elf Wizard 1

Well, hooray for Expeditious Retreat!

Male Elf Wizard 1

One day Issceran will create an extra-dimensional room to make his room bigger and likely ward the MSI HQ with anti-scrying materials. One day.

Nazard, did you get my message so I can be added to the Google Docs for this game?

Yes, the bad guys love expeditious retreat!

I thought I had added you to the site. I'll double check.

Edit: Yep, you should have access.

Male Elf Wizard 1

Can I get a link to the site...? I really don't know how to access it, I don't see it anywhere. :(

Marathon Voter 2013, Dedicated Voter 2014, Star Voter 2015

The link should be in the invite, but here it is.

link

Male Elf Wizard 1

Thanks! It looks pretty blank right now. Hopefully people will start using it soon and it can become an integral part of the campaign as an OOC medium just like the discussion portion here on the Paizo forums.

Marathon Voter 2013, Dedicated Voter 2014, Star Voter 2015

Yeah, I have to get to work on it. I have a character sheet template that looks pretty nice on this site that I`m going to put up where the current character sheets are, and I`ll add pages for tracking clues and leads, etc.
