My house has lost power due to a large tree falling and taking out the power cabels. I will be unable to reliably post until it is fixed. Sorry about the inconvenience.
Rilia of the Savored Sting |
Us too. Get that ice cream to the neighbor's house and reroute that Netflix account!
Slothsy |
Sorry to hear about all the power outages. My house's power flickered last night as well. Hopefully your power returns soon!
I'd like to get started on Zincher's camp this week/next week - as soon as you're done getting used to each other ;). The week after that is Gen Con (and this PbP's 2-year anniversary)!
Gillian Flynn |
Eek! Hope you guys are able to get power restored sooner rather than later.
And that plan sounds pretty good to me! Based on skimming through previous posts here in Discussion I'm going to assume that most of you guys will be at Gen Con then?
Gillian Flynn |
That's kinda what I figured! Much like during Paizo Con, I expect PbP activity to slow down a fair amount during Gen Con. Alas, I'm too poor to go to conventions this year but perhaps next year :)
The forum slowdown isn't bad either, gives me a chance to take a breather and squeeze in some console/PC gaming hehe.
Tamiro |
I was sad I couldn't binge a few episodes of Stranger Things last night. Literally the worst night.
PS: OH PS yea, I am with Nel, so no power here too. I update at work.
Gillian Flynn |
Nah, pretty sure they're still around; probably just wanting to give us time to squeeze in what RP we want before moving us on :)
Alraniel "Nel" Sandhal |
Nah, I just saw her yesterday. She got swept up in pfs stuff. She should be back soon. She was waiting for the rp to wind down.
Slothsy |
Working on an update - Sinmara, most of your questions/what you want to see are listed in the spoiler. I was just curious if you wanted to try to sneak into the camp itself and check things out, but it seems like you just want to look around.
The important thing to note is that you don't really see Zincher at all while watching the camp, but you do note that his hired guards look to be pretty tough. Zincher is also an ~~infamous crime boss~~, so take that as you will.
Slothsy |
Okay, since there doesn't seem to be any desire to find information beyond what's in the spoiler, I'll post an update later this afternoon. I'm assuming, since "talk", not "subtle assassination attempts", I'm assuming you'll approach the camp in a non-threatening (as possible) manner?
I want to get things moving, sorry for the slump!
Gillian Flynn |
My work schedule has been bonkers this week which has left me a little mentally drained anyway, so no worries about the slump :)
Slothsy |
Thanks; we got a nasty storm the other night that managed to fry our router, even through it was plugged into a surge protector. We should be getting a new one on Tuesday, the day I leave for Indy, haha.
Also, how are you guys wanting to approach Zincher's camp? If you get close enough, the guards are going to hail you down to talk - are you going to approach that way, or do something else? Ball is in your court!

I don't think those enthralled by Rilia can leave the area ("take no action") nor can Rilia ("The speech ends ... if you lose concentration or do anything other than speak or sing."). The spell also mentions what happens if new people wander into the area of effect ("Those entering the area during the performance must also successfully save or become enthralled.") so unless the rest of the party wants to lead the camp to Rilia, that's that.
Her plan was to get into the camp and use the ability to incapacitate a large swath of Zincher's flunkies, but even then some of them where going to resist--and a fight was the most-likely result (especially when those that resist notice how I've ensorcelled their comrades). So I would suggest leaving me behind, letting me use sleep on the two, or quietly and simultaneously incapacitating them.
Folks were going to walk into camp anyway. So walk into camp and let Aishe and Sinmara cover the rest from range now that the outer defensive ring has a hole in it. There are only 10 guards and Rilia got her share and in a way that shouldn't preclude further negotiations (i.e. we haven't killed anyone yet).
Lunar Sloth |
Oh, wow, I massively mis-read that spell. (I sort of latched on to 1d3 rounds, and interpreted it as you keeping people enthralled for 1d3 rounds and then they're friendly after... d'oh!). That plan could work.
Gillian Flynn |
Yeah I kinda took it as Rilia was telling the rest of the party to get a move on, hehe. I'm good with Rilia's plan too, for what it's worth. If only two or three of us walk into camp then they're hopefully going to be a little less on their guard - and like Nel and Tamiro, Gillian works best right now at closer range with her current spells anyway.
Rilia of the Savored Sting |
Yeah, Rilia is sort of like the big game, or a tear jerker on TV, or a catastrophe caught live or the RNC Convention in Cleveland. Maybe you want to look away but you can't. It's the sort of crazy thing a guy like Mr. Z might pull.
Beignet?
Gillian Flynn |
^Hah! I had to double-check but I lurk-read that particular Serpent's Rise game last year. It was the beignets that jogged my memory :3

I rarely forget a mysterious, unseen face. ;)
Rilia of the Savored Sting |
Have fun. See you metaphorically on the 9th!
Gillian Flynn |
By the way, Gillian will help as she can (or speak up as she sees fit) during situations like this but for the time being she's more likely to sit back a bit and let Nel or Rilia do the talking. Nel because she's clearly the leader and Rilia because she's clearly got a way with words. Just wanted to give a bit of notice so Slothsy and/or others aren't left wondering why if Gil isn't saying much at certain points :)
Aishe Danior |
If you want to go fetch Aishe and Sinmara for the meeting, you're welcome to do so.
Aishe won't have much to add to the conversation, and I suspect it's a good idea to continue to provide cover, so I'm totally fine with waiting out the meeting. No need to include me just to keep the player happy is what I'm saying.
Let's stick to the plan - at least as far as Aishe is concerned. :)

Who in the Nine Hells is gonna peel my grapes and offer me interesting finger food then!
Aishe Danior |
I'd be inclined to wait for Rilia - assuming she's just checking in and not spending hours healing. But otherwise, that's also my understanding.
Aishe is pushing to search for the library rather than dig for Noqual, but he's following Nel's orders for now - whatever they may be.
Tamiro |
The biggest issue we have is money as well. At level 5 Tamiro has a magic weapon, and Nel has a Magic armor, thats all the magic the group has. We also need informaiton on where the library is, os if we can work with Zincher, get some money (to make up for a rather huge deficit), and hopefully get info from him, then that's 2 birds with one stone.
I would personally very much like to get up to the level 5 Wealth By Level for Nel and I before we continue on. Grumpiness is not very effective at killing bosses at this level.

That was sort of my intent back here. Don't want to return from collecting space rocks and find everyone's been converted into a space zombie while we were gone.

Hrm. Treasure is a problem.
The new players came in with WBL standard, so there's a split between us. If we divvy equally going forward, which is fair to the new players, it's unfair to the old. Divvy unevenly to let the old players catch up, and we'll all be behind - but that sounds better and more fair.
I offered, I think, to track treasure for the group, and my spreadsheet does make it easy to track 'per character' so we can even things out. Of course I started the sheet assuming we were all equal going in... but it's easy to adjust.
Can the 'old' players total up their current Wealth, more or less, and post it here please? That way we can divvy unequally to help you catch up to the rest of us. We'll all be behind, but the DM can up the loot, if desirable of course, to catch us up.
Oh, the start of the sheet is here (link). But of course I can adjust everything to current totals if you send them to me.
Slothsy |
We can also say that you took a trip back to Riddleport at some point (MAGICAL FLASHBACK TIME) to sell the +1 full plate that you're not interested in.
Nel did get that +1 cold iron longsword after fighting the wraith. Keep that in mind.
I'm also somewhat inclined at this point to just give Nel and Tamiro some gold to spend since a lot of the magic items the party has found is in the hands of players who are no longer playing. Would anyone object to that? I would not want to make this a regular deal, but a good amount of the loot has literally just disappeared into the ether without a change for replacement.
Aishe, you mentioned that you had a spreadsheet to help keep track of the loot set up? Could I deputize you to be our loot keeper-tracker?
PS, Rilia, how could you see through my DASTARDLY PLOTS?
Aishe Danior |
I'm totally fine with a gold dump to the poorer players so we're all on an even playing field. Fairness is more important to me than anything. :)
The treasure sheet will help us avoid this problem going forward. And yes Slothsy, I'm quite happy to take on treasure tracking.

My understanding of significant owned items are:
Nel - +1 cold iron longsword (4320), +1 full plate (1650), cloak of resistance +1 (1000)
Tamiro - +1 katana (1350).
Their other gear is mundane and likely doesn't add up to more than 500 gp (in Nel's case) or 1,500 gp in Tamiro's case (due to his mundane armor). Wealth by level is 10,500 gp.
Obviously, Tamiro needs the most love.
I'll be happy to give Nel 3000 gp and Tamiro 7,750 gp in order to get them to where everyone else is, if people think that's fair. I just think that given the history of the campaign (ie, people disappearing with amulets of mighty fists and other gear), it would make the most sense to just smooth it over this way.
Rilia of the Savored Sting |
PS, that gold is given to you as an all-expense paid vacation back to Riddleport for the day. We'll just say it happened in a flashback so we can keep on with the action now. I'm just assuming you all walk out of Zincher's tent and go "wow, Tamiro, where did you get that armor?".
Curious mushrooms they have on this island.

Forgot to respond to this earlier but I'm good to allow Tamiro and Nel some extra cash to put them on par with the rest of us. I was initially wondering if this is one of those low-treasure APs like Carrion Crown but I guess having most of the treasure run off with PCs who had to drop has about the same effect...
Slothsy |
It is a 3.5 AP, and 3.5 WBL was way lower than PF, so part of it is in the conversion. Having gear run off isn't great either.
I'm working on setting up encounter #13 right now, with everyone participating sans Rilia.
As a note, this upcoming week is a very, very busy week (first week of the semester and I work as an academic advisor, so a lot of students will be meeting with me to finalize their courseloads). I'll be trying to post in the evenings, but if I disappear for a bit, that'll be why. Feel free to bug Nel to bug me.
