Anyone interested in starting a Shards of Sin game?

I'm looking for 4 or 5 character applications for a play-by-post Shattered Star campaign. I've been out of online games for

awhile and am missing the unique pace of the format. I'll probably throw together a google site or something for hosting combat maps and relevant images.

Character Creation Guidelines:

Point buy: 20 - heroes are supposed to be standout individuals
Races: Core races only.
Classes: Core. APG. Ultimate Magic/Combat considered.
Alignment: no evil
Traits: 2 - One campaign, one adventure.
HP: max 1st level.
Starting gold: 150gp

Are you allowing alt racial traits? If so, any restrictions?

EDIT: Also, any restrictions on archetypes?

In general I'd like to keep it to the rules I have on my shelf - which is alot, but doesn't include the Advanced Race Guide. Is that where they come from, and is there something in particular of interest?

No prejudice towards archetypes if they groove with the character background. I'd rather you make the character you want to write.

Hi Luke,

I would very much like to play a hunter with the divine hunter and primal companion hunter archetypes. Which is from the advanced class guide.

It is to create a ranger type whose animal companion is being given divine powers which he can call on occasionally.

How do you feel about this?

Cheers

Advanced Class Guide is also not a reference I've read, so I'm a little hesitant. I'll consider whatever's submitted and do back-reading to watch for broken mechanics if you have a strong preference to play something specific (as you've expressed).

Just a few questions, if you don't mind:

1) Do you have a deadline for when the recruitment ends?

2) Will you allow characters to take a drawback for a third trait?

Quite interested.
A bit on the fence, but I would love to play something martial. A swashbuckler or, if you are not sure, a dwarven ranger.

Sovereign Court

Too bad for no access to Golarion campaign setting specific archetypes.
Well then, Archeologist (bard archetype) here we go.

If there are a lot of undead and constructs, a crypt breaker alchemist could be interesting.

Silver Crusade

Definitely interested.

Thinking between:

Barbarian (Raging Cannibal)

Bloodrager (Untouchable Rager)

Inquisitor (Suit Seeker)

With your okay of course.

If you feel bad about the hunter and the archetypes I will probably be submitting an oracle or gunslinger.

I am interested and will probably submit something soon. When is the deadline? I might be busy until Wednesday morning.

I'm not in a huge hurry - I can see accepting character backgrounds throughout the week. I have more background reading to do yet. Anyone who's interested in the style of game I've run in the past can see through my past campaign links. I'd like to reproduce that type pace and story energy.

Oracles and gunslingers are welcome. Bards, alchemists, yes and yes. The suit seeker sounds interesting - I'm wondering how the other types (raging cannibal?) becomes a Pathfinder recruit?

Of course feel free to use the material in the player's guide for the AP. The background assumes adventurers stopped Karzoug, the Runelord of Greed from rising to menace the world. And that the events of Curse of the Crimson Throne have taken place in Korvosa. For that matter, I suppose the events of Jade Regent have also come to pass. So backgrounds for Varisian/Korvosan characters are free to take those events into account.

Obviously for my awesome culinary expertise and discerning palette.

Don't forget Second Darkness!

Silver Crusade

Actually only half joking joking about the raging Cannibal but a story I'm really interested in did pop into my head concerning the the Untouchable. He comes from a large family of wizards, sorcerers, and general practitioners of magic. Until he was born, that is. His family quickly discovered that he was not magically inept as they had first thought, but that his body actively rejected magic.

Shameless bump

I can only fit one more game in. Do you have enough players if I leave?

No worries, Nohwear. Happy gaming.

My party left the second darkness story well on its way to oblivion. I'll assume your party stopped its coming. :)

How would you feel about a neutral or chaotic neutral cleric of Urgathoa? His alignment reflects his selfish nature and inconsistent ethics rather than a bend toward lunacy. Also, his devotion to Urgathoa is born out a fervor for gluttony and hedonism instead of evil.

I would like to submit Afli Annar, a Halfling Arcane Duelist Bard who will hopefully prestige into Pathfinder chronicler. I'm basically combat support using bard songs and aid another. right now he does have a trait from the Halflings of Golarian book that gives him a bonus to aid another, if you want I can easily swap it out for something else, since that book is not on the provided list.

backstory:

Afli used to be a mean kid. You could have almost called him a bully, except he was too small and weak to actually beat anyone up. Sure you learn to fight ok when you fight a lot, but you also learn how much it hurts to get punched in the face, and kneed in the stones. His parents, being traveling merchants, didn't have much time for Afli, so they couldn't raise him "right", and so he got in fights and such for attention.

Then tragedy, his parents were killed on a return trip one day by the hungry Sandpoint Devil. He was then taken in by his teacher Koya. She spent more time with him and paid more attention to him.

She taught him about history, stories, and her many travels. She also taught him not to get into fights so much. He took away 2 main things from this; sometimes you need help to win a fight, and an interest in the wonders of the world, and specifically the Pathfinder's who discovered them.

Sczarni

Here is the outline of my submission. He still needs some details filled out, but is mostly complete.

I'd like to present Valai for your consideration. ^^

I would like to swap out the familiar for a bond item and reselect some equipment, but other than that she should be good to go.

The characters submitted so far look really interesting, though I'm not sure we have a viable party yet. In particular we're missing some muscle up front, and possibly some healing. I'm going to keep the recruiting open until sometime Friday.

so... Shameless bump. Any meaty pathfinder recruits out there with a hat to throw in our ring? Valai, any chance of pulling folks from your last run at this ap?

I'll let them know. Hang tight!

I will have a flip through the AP's player guide and see if something jumps out at me to cover the Healing or Muscle role! I will try and have something up tonight or tomorrow!

Thanks for the headsup, Valai! I would definitely be interested. Rommin here was built for a Shattered Star game that didn't make it past 1st level (as I'm sure Valai has told you). I think DM Luke's build criteria is the same, so he should fit in well.

I hadn't told them yet. ^^ And now I don't have to. *chuckles*

Silver Crusade

Sorry for disappearing, I'll try to finish up tge idea tonight. Gonna try with Untouchable Rager, from Katapesh perhaps?

If you still lack a divine, I would like to build a dwarven shaman. Maybe Lore spirit or Heavens. Something that does not melee, but buffs and Supports. Maybe even with the flagbearer feat.
Interested?

I have a character idea, but first, would you allow the Treesinger archetype from the advanced race guide?

Please post your favorite ideas. The flavor of the character is likely to win the day.

This is just a concept.
Unbeugsam was born in magnimar to a family of dwarven stonemasons. While his father worked diligently he never had the spark of greatness so common in many dwarves. Unbeugsam was raised in a city full of wonders clad in stone and he loved to visit them. One day, something strange happened and while stroking one of those monuments a spark flew over to him. And a squirrel started to look at him in a special way. The squirrel hopped on his shoulder and from that day on those two were never seperatable.
Unbeugsam is a shaman of lore. While not young he has done many things in his life, till one day he understood that he was learning at the wrong end. He learned but sometimes did not understand.
Crunch. Unbeugsam is a middle aged dwarf Shaman of lore, with the breadth of experience feat. He applied for training at the pathfinder lodge and started as a scribe for a while, copying scrolls and letters.
With the recent events he feels this is his chance and he asked for a new assignement.

Id be interested with a orphaned rogue, Glory rogue archetype

Unbeugsam, huh? 'Unbending' sounds like a good name for a Dwarf. ^^

In looking back over the thread that Rommin and Valai started with GM Dak, I find that I'd like to just pick up that story where it is - which is basically at a spot that's ready-made for such a character upheaval. That thread is here. GMDak & company did an awesome job with the first stage of the plot. I'd tie that up and push us into the next part of the adventure with a kick-off post. It would mean that the characters are starting at 2nd level as well, so the submissions can be leveled-up once.

I can understand if this twist makes anyone want to opt-out. Ultimately I want to add three PCs to Valai Blackrune and Rommin Hawkridge. At present I have the following submissions:

Amadia Tien Mu, Elven Alchemist
Afli Anar, Halfling Bard
Ranulff Essen, Human Cleric of Urgathoa
Unbeugsam, Dwarven Shaman of Lore
Treesinger from Avoran
Untouchable Rager from Rysky
Rogue from Lord Inventor Reldic Emerson

I'll keep submission open long enough to hear if the applicants are still interested then pick three of the remaining submissions. Please let me know if I missed anybody!

Thanks! I'm looking forward to it!

Hi Luke, are you still accepting submissions? I'd like to play, and I can create something for the campaign :)

I am going to withdraw; I have had difficulty adapting to games that are already in progress.

Good gaming, everyone!

Sorry to disappoint Bill. Happy gaming.

adsapiens, please do submit an idea.

Grand Lodge

LordLuke here:

Sorry, been bouncing with the Flu. After reading up on the new posts I have a rogue concept I will throw into the mix. I just need to do some quick changes to him from another game, which I hope to have done tonight for sure.

Still interested DM Luke!

I won't level up my character though, until I am actually selected.

I'm not sure how to create a character, name myself as it and submit as my friends are doing... So I'll post it here (here's adsapiens btw) :)

A little bit of a simple backstory:

Spoiler:
Abbo was raised to be a Shaman in his father's Orc tribe, where he was raised, but always lacked the brainpower to do so. Having lived an entire life of abuses due to his incapacity of filling such role, the teenager eventually ran away and enlisted himself to become a soldier. The years passed and he felt as he had found his true calling, but the king's army ended up dismantled. Out of family and friends, Abbo wandered selling his sword and board for hire, until finally found purpose again in the life of an adventurer of good.

I will post my backstory soon. If possible, I will take the Elemental Resistance, Fleet-Footed, and Woodcraft alternate racial traits.

Backstory:

Appenrel has been a loner for a long time. For 10 years, since the age of 110, he has lived alone in a forest surrounding a fairly well frequented trade route. But even before this, he never really fit in with other elves and their free-spirited ways. For him, the value of nature was in its perfect balance, and he strove to keep that balance, or at least his little part of it. After leaving his fellow elves, he earned what he could not create by relaying messages and items across the forest. When he was not focusing on survival, he attempted to understand more about himself, the world around him, and his god, Irori. At one point, he spent seven months mapping out the entire root network of the largest tree he could find. He would have been perfectly content carrying out the rest of his life in that forest, surviving, but never truly living. Or maybe he was the only one truly living, and all others just delude themselves. Either way, it was not to be.

One day, a band of goblins was passing through the forest. Their presence was irritating to Appenrel, but there was nothing he could do but sit and watch from above as they destroyed the plant life and made the forest their home. Nothing he could do but sit and watch, until a goblin threw a torch to the side without a care in the world. That was all it took. Within seconds, a whole tree was beginning to catch fire. Appenrel turned and fled along a tree branch before dropping to the ground and beginning to sprint. He never saw the goblins again. Perhaps they burned in the fire. He did not care. He ran until he reached the tree, his tree, the tree he had lived in for the past ten years. The tree whose root system he knew by heart. He could do nothing to save it. But he reached down and picked up an acorn from by its base before continuing on.

The whole forest burned down in the hours that followed. Appenrel could have found a new forest, certainly, but it no longer seemed to have meaning. Ten years of order could be destroyed by a single spark of chaos. He decided it was time to try to quench fires before they were lit. But before that, there was something he had to do. He walked back through the charred remains of his forest. He found the spot where his tree had been, even though the tree was no longer there. Of course he found it. He could have found it even if the whole forest had disintegrated entirely, leaving nothing but the earth beneath it. He dug through the ash and planted the acorn in the newly fertilized soil. And then he waited. He was used to that. When the acorn had grown into a sapling, there was something different about it. This was a tree that could move. This was a tree that could follow its companion. This was a tree that could flee from death. Appenrel was ready to fight. He yearned to fight. But he had lived in a forest for ten years. He had no idea what to do.

Also, how much starting gold do we get, if we're starting at level two?

Nothing against anyone but going into games already started have never been my cup of tea, hope everybody has fun though ^w^
