"Just die already," Ty implores the boar, seeing the massive amount of damage it has taken so far. Knowign Quzman could not take another round of attacks from it and its rider, he steels himself and fires two more arrows. Eli's song helps steady his aim a bit.

Sorry, I have been down with a massive headache for the past two days. Feeling better now, seems I have missed a bunch but Eli is acting as I would have so lets cream these gnolls.
Eli continues to belt out the Ballad of Sir Jeers, an inspiring tale of a couragous knight who defeated and army with a handfull of injured and weary men. With a flick of the wrist Tempest flits throught the air as the bard twists and swirls his body to confuse his opponents. Trapped between the two he assumes a deffensive posture knowing that another axe blow could be his last.

Seeing that the boar is grievously wounded, and feeling better thanks to Bahiyy's ministrations, Quzman laughs at the gnoll's proclamation as he dodges and weaves from their blows. Taking an evasive side step, Quzman attempts to finish the foul boar, so that he can take on its master on a level field.
The side step was to take a 5' step to the south closer to Eli. I was ecstatic at the luck the gnoll and boar had last round. I was assuming I was cruisin' for a bruisin' from the duo that round =p. And last, but not least, welcome back MD. I hope you're feeling much better, and great timing.
Round 6
[spoiler]The sphere of pure fire rolls around behind the boar, then thrusts in at the boar from behind! Dumah moves the sphere to A17, then hits the boar from behind. 3d6 + 1 ⇒ (6, 3, 2) + 1 = 12.

Great to have you back MD! Eli's skillful footwork easily confuses the gnoll and the feint leaves the gnoll off balance, as Tempest slits his throat and he falls to the floor dead.
The sphere of pure fire rolls around behind the boar, then thrusts in at the boar from behind! Dumah moves the sphere to A17, then hits the boar from behind. 3d6+1.
He’ll move to E13.
Boar's Reflex save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9 The boar is unable to move out of the way and it burns, squealing in pain, but it still lives! However, it smells of roast pork/bacon in the desert now!
I mean, dang it! I was hoping that would take it down! I was positioning the sphere to help Eli next round, but it is looking like he may be just fine on his own!
Quzman's first swing bounces off the boar's barding, but the dagger seems aimed at the creature's throat. Ugruk sees Grotan's weakened and bloodied state and attempts to use his skill to block Quzman's dagger swing. Unfortunately, his parry is too slow, as Ugruk curses his luck, and Quzman's dagger finds its mark, puncturing the creature's jugular vein. The creature shifts from side to side woozily for a few seconds and as it gets near to attack Quzman, it collapses in a heap on its stomach.
Ugruk safely dismounts and looks at Quzman with hatred in his eyes. "I will not be such an easy mark, human!" Out of the corner of his eye, he spots Tyronel, so he maneuvers to use Quzman as cover from the arrows. He then spins the flindbar in his his hands and brings it down on Quzman's wrists, stinging the warrior's right hand and causing him to drop his enchanted scimitar at his feet.
Disarm: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Ugruk smiles, "I am no dumb beast, I am the sub-chieftain of the Kuldis tribe! Go ahead, pick it up, I dare you!" His hulking muscles protrude from underneath his breastplate.
The gnoll on Eli thinks about running at seeing his packmate's throat sprinkle blood on the sand. But he sees Ugruk unwounded, so he gathers inspiration and attacks Eli, wielding the battleaxe 2-handed and swinging with all his might. His swing is so telegraphed, however, that Eli dodges it by a mile, as fear creeps into the gnoll's eyes.
Knowing Quzman could not take another round of attacks from it and its rider, he steels himself and fires two more arrows. Eli's song helps steady his aim a bit.
Fearing he might hit Quzman, Tyronel aims carefully and shoots Ugruk, the arrow passing over Quzman's right shoulder, but it bounces off the sub-chieftain's breastplate. The second arrow also misses.
A 20 didn't hit the big gnoll? Oh my...that's not good at all!
Actually, if you look at the map, he had cover from your ranged attack:
"To determine whether your target has cover from your ranged attack, choose a corner of your square. If any line from this corner to any corner of the target's square passes through a square or border that blocks line of effect or provides cover, or through a square occupied by a creature, the target has cover (+4 to AC)."
Quzman smirks at the gnoll, "Oooh, a SUB-chieftain. Color me unimpressed beast. I will wear your ear as part of my necklace." Knowing better than to leave his back exposed while picking up the weapon at his feet, Quzman will step to the side to give the archer a cleaner shot while simultaneously drawing his other scimitar. (He was taking the 5' step to C16.)
As a move action, Dumah will move the flaming sphere into the SUB-chieftain's square, potentially doing 3d6 + 1 ⇒ (4, 3, 3) + 1 = 11. Reflex 16 save to avoid.
As a standard action, Dumah will shoot him with a force missile. Damage 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2.
Ugruk Reflex save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20...He dodges the sphere, as it winks out of existence. He looks at the wizard in disgust, as he gets hit by the force missile.
Quzman's comment irks Ugruk and he grunts in anger, as Quzman pulls out another scimitar and deftly cuts him with the dagger in the ribs. Ugruk screams in pain. He realizes that his best strategy is to simply kill the young warrior rather than disarm him, so he goes on the offensive, striking Quzman with his flindbar across the face, breaking the human's nose in the process and stepping to B17, trying to keep cover from the archer.
Eli continues to sing, moves into flanking position and then attacks the gnoll again, perforating the gnoll's lung with Tempest, killing the gnoll: Attack:1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16; Damage: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (4, 6) + 1 = 11.
Quzman spits blood at the beast and smiles. "Is that the best you have? No wonder the rest of your packmates have fallen so quickly, if this is all their sub-chief is." Stepping to the side again to keep the large creature in front of him, Quzman lashes out at the creature with both blades.
Round 8. Dumah will move to get the gnoll at the end of a 15' cone. Without an updated map, it's hard for me to judge where that is. Then he'll let loose a Burning Hands. 2d4 + 1 ⇒ (3, 3) + 1 = 7 Damage, reflex 15 for half damage.

Ugruk's Reflex save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14. He tries to move out of the way of Dumah's flames, but is unable to, and Ugruk screams in horror, as he burns.

With his expert skill and Ugruk on fire, both of Quzman's blades connect, decapitating the sub-chieftain, as his head falls, the look of shock and disbelief is ingrained in Quzman's memory, giving him more satisfaction in the deed! As you look around at the bodies of the gnolls, their blood staining the desert sands, you know you have accomplished something worthy!
Congrats! Quzman is a beast against gnolls, especially when buffed! I was worried there for a little while, but nicely done, guys!
Ok, let me know what now? A couple of you are wounded, Bahiyy has no more spells left for the day, and 1 channel energy left.
I don't know that we are in any condition to continue on to the town, but I am willing if the rest of you are. My mystical arsenal is almost exhausted, but I will do what I can. With that last remark, he hefts his stout acacia wood walking stick.
I am down to one Web spell, the Bag of Tricks, my arcane bond spell recall and five uses of evocation school force missiles. After that, I am a +1 BAB 10 strength club wielder.
DM, how do you want to calculate the destruction chance on the missed arrows? IIRC, 1/2 of them are destroyed. Do you just want to say that half of them are recoverable without having to roll for it?
Tyronel looks over the corpses of the gnolls, taking whatever arrows that remained unfired, and collected what was left of the arrows he had loosed.
Quzman smiles grimly down at the cooling body of Ugruk. He looks around to make sure everyone is OK and that the threat has passed, before bending swiftly to remove one of the gnoll's ears as he promised. Quzman systematically goes to the other two gnolls he faced in combat and does the same, before depositing them into a pouch for safe keeping. He then will make sure to gather his scimitar and longbow from where they were dropped before starting to loot the corpses. "I will be able to travel once I heal up with a potion, however, this fight was won so handily thanks to the magical assistance of you good mage and priest. What do you think Eli? Did you wish to push on with limited resources?"
That was a rather sweet fight! The buffs by Bahiyy and then the inspire courage from Eli turned Quzman into a melee machine. +3 vs. gnolls normally, then another +3 from buffing on his normal attacks made it really hard to miss. Add that to his streak of decent rolls, and things flew. Thanks guys!

Bahiyy looks at Quzman and says, "All praise to Abadar. Oh and I think we should start calling you Quzman Gnoll-bane..you took down that huge gnoll in less than 15 seconds!"
"I don't know you well, Quzman, but Gnollbane seems pretty apt to me. You were amazing against the leader! My arrows couldn't do anything against him."
"I don't know you well, Quzman, but Gnollbane seems pretty apt to me. You were amazing against the leader! My arrows couldn't do anything against him."
Your arrows did plenty at the monastery and here. I dare say things would have turned out much differently if more of those gnolls were around when that boar came over the dune.
Gnoll-bane, do you have enough potions on you to relieve your wounds? How about you, Eli?
I am certainly not opposed pushing on; I merely want you to have realistic expectations about the support I can offer.
I was looking at taking Glitterdust as my non-evocation spell next level, but perhaps I should consider Bull's Strength.
While Eli fixes us some BLTs, Dumah will check the gnolls for valuables, including the judicious use of a Detect Magic spell. He'll take the flindbar to Quzman.
While Eli fixes us some BLTs, Dumah will check the gnolls for valuables, including the judicious use of a Detect Magic spell. He'll take the flindbar to Quzman.
Here is what you find (* detects magical):
8 chain shirts
8 battle axes
8 longbows
100 arrows
Masterwork breastplate (Udruk)
Masterwork flindbar (Ugruk)
*Potion with red liquid (Ugruk) You can try spellcraft checks on the potions!
*Potion with blue liquid (Ugruk)
Key (1 foot-long) (Ugruk)
180 gp (total)
Same as a nunchaku, except it does 1d8 damage. It is exotic and can disarm as well. The red vial is a potion of expeditious retreat. The other one is unknown.
I'll take 21 of the arrows to get me up to 50. If anyone can pack some of the others, might now be a bad idea. Arrows go fast when you are shooting two a round!
Quzman will look over the masterful weapon handed him by Dumah. "My thanks good Dumah. It is truly a well made weapon, which is an oddity in itself for these beasts, but would the group mind if I perhaps claimed his breastplate as a trophy instead? It may help me deflect a few more blows than my leather armor does."
If nothing else, one of the chain shirts would be a step up for him too.
Quzman will assist in the packing of the loot from the gnolls, and he will then try to cover the remains with their cloaks and sand to hide their discovery from a casual observer.
I am assuming that you all have filled Ty in on all the developments in the campaign so far.
"Should we press on? Maybe we could make a scouting mission to see if there are more stragglers to pick off? If not, perhaps we could hole up in one of the cleared buildings until we get more of our strength back?
That may be a viable option, recovering in an abandoned building. We could select one that overlooks the market they are holed up in. That way if another force moves out toward the monastery we can move to intercept.
Eli Wynnstock(hp 55/55 AC: 26/17/21 F +5 R +11 W +6 {+4 vs bards/sonic/lang; +1 vs traps} Initiative + 4; Perception +9)
"As eager as I am to make them taste our steel, Dumah speaks true. We need to rest and regain our magical strength. Holding up in one of the abandon buildings with a watch rotaion seems a decent enough idea."
"I agree with Eli, my powers of the day grnated by the favorable Adabar, who helped us to overcome our enemies, are expanded. We should rest and not try our luck, we find, that we might run out very soon."
No-one wants the breastplate? It is masterwork, but medium armor.... - Bahiyy would take it though, one step up from his current one
Quzman would like the armor if there was no objections. He is currently trying to frontline in studded leather.
Quzman quietly takes in the discussion before speaking, "I can see it is a general consensus that we should rest and let our mystical friends regain their strength before we try our hand at hunting the enemy once again. I see wisdom in this course. However, I would humbly suggest that if we are to rest overnight, we may wish to return to the monastery for this rather than resting in town. Gnolls would have the advantage to slip by us in the evening without us even knowing it, since they can see at night as if it was the light of day. Our last parting of ways saw our comrades attacked by some otherwordly creatures that cost them dearly, and this time we have brave Tyronel with us and Brebork, sadly, is not amongst them to defend the site. This is my opinion, but will bow to the wish of the group and guide you wherever it is you wish to go."
Quzman will look at each in turn, before turning to head back to the boar carcass to see if there any might truly be able to be salvaged for an evening meal.
