Eli waits for Jameena to lunge forward and attack the troglodyte seeking a way to pin the evil priest in and cut off it's escape. He darts past and takes a position across form the warrior so together they outflank the troglodyte. Spinning Eli slashes Tempest at his foe.

Yay, team Sand Stalker. Now all we have to do is cross a burning desert with a blind guide and an invisible assassin stalking us.

Jameena wrenches her blade free of the troglodyte and turns to scan the throne room, looking for any sign of Zayifid.

"Dumah, do you see Zayifid? Where did he go? Eli, search the troglodyte and see if he has any healing magic or some way to restore Quzman's sight. While that janni is out there, we are not safe."

Dumah's regular Detect Magic reveals only that the cleric's wand, brestplate, and greataxe radiate magic.

No, I do not see him here, and the arcane enhancement I made to my vision would reveal him to me. Just before he disappeared, I caught a glimpse of his gestures, and I believe he became Ethereal. Commonly it is believed that it merely makes you invisible and allows you to pass through objects, but in truth, becoming ethereal actually migrates you to another plane of existance, one that closely... Taking note of the expressions and condition of his allies, Dumah cuts his planar lecture short. No, Jameena, I cannot see him. He may be nearby, but I will be vigilant. We should move on quickly.

Taking a couple of moments to gather himself while his friends discuss the location of their foes, "I fear I will not be much use in getting us out of this local anymore. Hopefully, we will find the rest of the tribes still in chaos from the passing of their king. If someone can guide me, I can carry young Ty and some of the possessions out of here."

Turning to Jameena, "If you still have need of a blade, please use this one. It will be a lot more effective in your hands than mine at the moment." He holds out his magical scimitar and sheathe.

That was one heck of fight DM. Memorable and tough, but good.

Jameena takes the magic scimitar from Quzman.

"Thank you, Quzman. I will use this well and return it to you once you sight has been restored."

Having just received a sharp lesson in the value of a back-up weapon, Jameena also takes Ty's cold iron dagger and refills her quiver with arrows.

She looks at the body of the dead archer.

"We will have to reconsider how we plan to leave this place. With Quzman blind, a trek through mountains filled with gnoll tribes will be almost suicide. I suppose we could leave the way we came, if the salamanders would permit it, but we would have to rest again, to prepare protective spells against the heat."

Looks like we have a lot to figure out before we are home safe.

I still have some powerful spells at my disposal, if we move and take advantage of the confusion. That spell of black tentacles I can do again, I can speed us up again, and I have a flaming surprise for a group of them. We should at least scout it out and see if we have any resistance between us and the open desert.

Jameena straightens at Eli's outburst and steps back from Ty's body. She regards Eli without anger, a look of compassionate understanding on her face.

"Eli, Tyronel was my friend too. And I do not mean to loot him like one of the enemies we have slain. But just as Quzman lend me his blade, I am sure that Tyronel would lend me his armor, now that he has no more need of it.

I share your grief of his death, but I almost followed him to the afterlife just now. And had I fallen, I fear that I would not have been the only one. If I had been wearing his armor, I might not have needed your healing spell."

Dumah puts a calming hand on Eli's forearm. He is a friend to us all, and if his soul is willing, we'll see all restored to him, as well as his share of the riches his sacrifice earned us. But if we do not take advantage of all at our disposal, he will be beyond the veil for all time with none on this side to call him back. I will state now, for full clarity later if need be: while I consider Haleen heir to any valuables I may have, should I fall in difficult circumstances any of you would be welcome to use anything I bear to aid in your own survival. And should Haleen fall before I do, I would consider you, my closest friends, my heirs in her place.

"Please, let us not bicker over such material things. We need to respect Tyronel's physical remains to the best of ability, but first and foremost, we need to get out of here without further casualties. I think the armor may do Jameena well in sparing her from some blows while standing in front with you good Eli. At this time, I am not going to be much of a threat to draw the attention of a determined foe from attacking anyone. The cold iron dagger you may borrow, as Tyronel loaned it to me well before the devil's steed took it vengeance upon him, and it is still on my belt. Perhaps his magical cooling item can be of use to one of the living if we needs travel through the magma region again. Outside of that, we need not divvy up Ty's things, until we find him peace, on this world or in the Dawn's light above.", Quzman says with fervent conviction, and he hands over the dagger to Jameena.

"Eli, I know this may seem hard and cold, but unfortunately, the desert can be a hard, cold world. It is not from a lack of respect for the dead that this is the custom, but more from an immediate need of the living to continue to exist. While Tyronel is gone, I am sure he has all of his needs cared for as his reward for his service in life. Please be at peace brother.", as he reaches out his arm blindly to try and grab Eli's forearm in embrace.

Also, something to consider, a number of these items may not have even survived the last blast of fire from the horse thing. He was dead at that point, so they would have been unattended objects...

As she listens to the words of the Sand Stalkers talk of friendship and brotherhood, and watches Quzman clasp Eli's forearm in the manner of one warrior to another, Jameena seems to shrink a little.

For a moment, the stalwart paladin is gone, and only a slender and tired looking young woman remains.

"I see...", she says in a quiet voice, suddenly unwilling to look Eli in the eyes. "Even after all we have been through, the battles we have fought together....you still see me as a stranger, not much better than a hired sword or some greedy treasure hunter out for plunder or glory....I have sworn a holy oath to keep you safe and aid you in your quest, even if it means my death. How many demons must I slay, how much of my blood must I spill, before you would think me worthy to call myself a Sand Stalker, Eli?

She inhales sharply, and seems about to say more, but falls silent. After a moment, she looks up and speaks again, sounding infinitely weary. The flickering torchlight reflects clearly in her bright eyes.

"Forgive me...I am exhausted and the shame of my failure to keep Tyronel alive is still too fresh. Please, tend to him and gather what items we would bring. I will patrol the outer hall and make sure it is safe."

With that, she turns, draws Quzman's scimitar, activates her sight to reveal evil and walks off through the double-doors leading out of the throne room.

Eli listens to Dumah and then grasps Quzman's arm tightly then suddenly feels shame as he sees where he had placed it upon his blade. "Wait!" Eli calls out trying to stop Jameena before she exits. "Forgive me friend, you are indeed a valuable member of the Sand Stalkers and your heroics and name will be sung by the bards for ages to come. It's just..." Eli's eyes betray his weariness and grief as he continues, "...you were not there to mourn Kyra, Jarva, or Brebork as Dumah, Quzman and I have. Even Ty was not there in the beginning, but his lost aches my heart as much as their does. To many have died in the quest to rid the desert of the Carrion King, and now we have an even greater foe. One that can vanish from our midst, who may even now be lurking in between realms of magic waiting to pounce and slay us all. We almost lost Quzman once, but the Dawnflower blesses us each day that he is with us, just as much as each day you are with us." Eli goes to Ty's body and carefully starts to unstrap the breastplate, "I am tired of mourning and I do not want to mourn your death too. Take this until we find out if Sarenrae will bless us with the return of Tyronel's soul." He will carefully remove the armor and offer it to his companion and friend. "Strap it on and let us see if we can get Ty someplace safe."

Dumah steps away at the comment of the foe disappearing in their midst.

Though he scans the distance wary for enemies, his mind is fully engaged, working through mystical solutions to the dilemmas faced in this encounter.

Eli's words make Jameena stop before she reaches the doors. She turns and looks at the bard, clearly touched by the grief in his voice.

There is nothing to forgive, Eli. I may not have been with you when you lost Kyra or Jarva or Brebork...but I too know the pain of loss...all too well.

She walks back to the others, and when Eli brings her Ty's armor, she unfastens the straps of her own breastplate. The metal falls away to reveal her grimy and sweatstained surcoat clinging to her shapely body.

"Help me with Tyronel's armor, please," she says to Eli, turning her back and holding up her arm to allow him to fasten the staps on the side of the adamantine breastplate. "Do you know how I came to be a paladin?" she says, her voice soft.

"I am the oldest daughter of a poor camel herder, and when I grew up, I had little to look forward to other than a life filled with carrying heavy water jugs and cleaning up camel dung. With many mouthes to feed, I can hardly blame my father for accepting, when the master of a traveling troupe of entertainers offered to buy me as a dancing girl when I was 15. It changed everything. Suddenly, my life was full of music and wondrous places I had never even dreamed of seeing. In the troupe, I found friends and learned to captivate the audience with my dance. For three wonderful years, I offered daily prayers to Shelyn as I danced, laughed and visited cities in every corner of Katapesh.

I prayed my last prayer to Shelyn on the fateful day when savage gnolls attacked the troupe while we were crossing the desert. Before I knew it, I was sitting besides the burning wagon that had been my home, cradling the mauled corpse of my dearest friend among the dancing girls and the bloodstained scimitar she had used to fend off the gnolls. There, among the sand and blood, I turned my eyes to the sky and begged the Dawnflower for equal measures mercy and vengeance. When a caravan found me and took me to a nearby temple of Sarenrae, I made the priests promise to teach me two things: To heal wounds and to use a scimitar to punish the ones that inflicted those wounds.

Five years have passed since I became a warrior of Sarenrae. During that time, I have tended the sick and injured in the temples, and traveled on missions for the church. I have spilled more blood and lost more friends than I care to count. But I know that the rightious bask in the warmth of the Dawnflower, and the wicked endure unspeakable punishment for their foul deeds."

As Eli tightens the last strap, she picks up the scimitar again.

"Now, lets go home..."

Dumah will help Quzman get Ty into a fireman's carry.

Eli, will you guide his steps?

Jameena, please lead the way.

Sorry, guys for delay but was sick all late last week.

The party, led by Eli, guiding the blind ranger and carrying the skeletal remains of Ty, try to find an exit to the House of the Beast. You find stairs and take them up to an upper level, wherein you find a Temple to Rovagug and the living quarters of the numerous gnolls loyal to the former Carrion King. These chambers are now abandoned and you find many gnolls massacred and piled in one corner and not by your hand.

As you head up to the next level of the structure, you feel an influx of fresh air, indicating that you have reached the surface. Here, the hallway circles the inside of a great dome, its walls crawling with beetles. Loose chunks of plaster and bits of rubble clutter the floor. Again, you find corpses of gnolls wearing the insignia of the Carrion King. As you are about to proceed, Eli hears movement and he signals the party to stop. He peers out to see 75' down the hallway at an intersection two packs of 8 gnolls, one wearing the insignia of a black scorpion on their armor, and another wearing armor adorned with fangs, teeth, ears, eyes, tongues, and pieces of skin. Alongside them is the biggest scorpion Eli has ever seen, about 20' tall, with its tail another 15' in the air. Eli is too far to hear any conversation, but what he does see, however, is that after a brief conversation, the gnolls with the trophies on their armor head west, and the scorpion-clad gnolls start to head east toward the party, seemingly conducting a room by room search. The huge scorpion remains in the T-section of the hallway. 4 doors flank the hallway before the gnolls reach the central dome and the party.

What do you do?

Eli glances about looking for someplace they can take cover to avoid the searching gnolls.

Eli will wait for the gnolls to arrive, and upon their entering the room will proclaim, "Welcome friends, we greet you in the name of the Quzman King Slayer. You have the honor of presenting yourselves to his greatness. The Carrion King was weak, but you now have the great privilege of serving the one who rid us of that flea bitten weakness. "The Carrion King was weak! Stupid Sandstalkers, how arrogant of you to walk out the front door of the House of the Beast! Now the blades of hundreds of gnolls shall fall upon you! Your deaths shall the glory of the Al'Choraiv!"

At the sound of the gnollish word "Al'Choraiv", the other seven gnolls slam their shields with their weapons and rush the party!

Initiative!
