Hagrym |
"Stop moving," Hagrym hisses. "Look closely. Something green is on top of the water up there. It's a trap or some strange residue that doesn't belong. We need to avoid the area and go the other way, or figure out what it is and deal with it."
brvheart |
You think it is only on the surface but you would have to swim 30' underwater to reach the other exit (making swim checks no taking 10 here).
"Poor" Cyric |
Cyric looks very sullen, hanging onto the rope and hoping he doesn't drown and make this his grave. He's never been as lucky as his brother, but fate had a way of keeping him alive for the most part mainly to suffer longer...
"What exactly is 'green'? Maybe two good swimmers can hold the rope underwater at each end so we can just use it to cross without having to try our luck swimming under it?"
Naomi Chadwick |
Naomi sends her dancing lights forward to see what the "green" is, asking Turvijagal, as she looks herself.
"Lets send the light forward to see if I can help you identify it"
perception: aid another: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
is there any knowledge check that can help identify this?
knowledge: dungeoneering or nature: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 well that was a waste
Jarvis Ward |
"What is that slime? Come on this is just too gross..."
Knowledge Dungeoneering: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
brvheart |
Yes, that would be Green Slime Jarvis. You don't want to go in it! Fire or cold will destroy it. BTW, I don't see any spells listed on your character.
Hagrym |
"Can anyone burn it off? I don't trust any of us to make the swim to try and dodge it. If not, we should turn around and try another way."
Galerio |
"Definitely don't want to try swimming under it or even getting too close. Would it be possible to squirt some oil on it and set that on fire, but I don't know how we could get it lit."
Jarvis Ward |
"That is a green slime, I wouldn't touch it but it is sensitive to fire and cold.
Rectifying shortly
brvheart |
Shandar has burning hands and has been dying to cast it all game! I just heard he is onsight on a job so I guess I cast it for him.
Hagrym |
Woo for Burning Hands getting cast!
Once the menace had been eliminated, the dwarf again starts leading the crew down the passageway. 0Dont know if that was a trap or natural, but keep on your toes for what's next."
brvheart |
You see another passageway that opens up into a room after 20' to the north.
Jarvis Ward |
"Maybe we can collect the green slime and all get facials!"
Couldn't help it...
Naomi Chadwick |
well at least his jokes are getting better
Noami casts her dancing lights around the room above the water and below looking for the ranger or anything else interesting
" Keep your eyes peeled boys, the ranger should be in here someplace."
perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
brvheart |
The 15-foot-by-25-foot room contains a mound of bones. The majority of the remains are of common swamp animals, but parts of humanoids can be found as well.
The fresh corpse of a human man floats atop the water. The man’s head and face are a pulpy mass. A small floating glass sphere with continual flame within illuminates the room. Warped shadows dance around the chamber as the sphere bobs above the waves.
At the back of the room is a statue of (knowledge Religion DC 15) with an amulet around its neck.

Nope, he isn't hiding, he is dead.
Naomi Chadwick |
to much dead stuff to be accidental, nifty light idea, must be wrth a little
Naomi looks around, not comfortable with all the dead creatures and no clear sign of what killed them
"be careful boys, seems like a lot of stuff had died in here."
turning to Cyric as she treads water she ask
"Cyric, can you tell what killed who must be the ranger? Or what the idol Is?"
then turning to Hagrym as he bobs in the water like a cork
"Hagrym, What do you think that amulet is worth, It won't offend your religious sensibilities if we take it and sell it? How bout the glass shere with the continual flame in it, do you mind if we sell it too?"
addressing the rest of the group she asks
"Is anyone a good enough swimmer to dig around in the bones, this is just another crypt right?"
brvheart |
No, but it is on the far side of the room. You also see a spear below the body in the water.
Naomi Chadwick |
or maybe he dropped the spear, possibly after a fight?
Naomi, not comfortable with the "feel" of the room hums a little ditty as she casts detect magic.
brvheart |
You detect magic on both the spear and the amulet. Also something detects as magical on the rangers body in a belt pouch.
Naomi Chadwick |
hmmm the spear, the amulet and something in the belt pouch
treading water as she speaks Naomi points out
"Boys the amulet on the idol is magical and our ranger here has something magical in his belt and the spear is magical too. Before we get too hasty I would really like to know what killed the ranger and what kind of temple this is. Cyric, Hagrym, any information?"
or anyone else for that matter, who has heal or knowledge: religion?

Know. Religion 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Well, that sucked.
"I've got no problem with relieving a corpse of its items. A living person, on the other hand, no. More importantly, who is going to look after ole Gravy now? He seems too domesticated to survive in the wilds anymore, sadly."
Naomi Chadwick |
in the middle of a swampwater infested temple where a man and apparently many other creatures have died, staring at an Idol with a magic amulet on it and our paladin want to know who's going to care for the coyote, which will probably out live all of us at this rate.
Naomi continues treading water, slowly getting closer to the corpse, finally she interjects
"Well the least we can do is take the ranger with us and give him a proper burial and contact his girl friend and let her know what happened, Maybe she would want to take care of imitating Hagrym's voice 'Oooole Grrrrravy'."
once she takes off the belt pouch and sends the body toward the back and asks Galerio
"Galerio would you be a dear and tie Gravy's previous master to the end of the rope so we can tow his body out?"
she then attempts to dive for the spear

Cyric looks at the body as well as the rest of the room, uncomfortable with the dead corpses all around. He mutters offhandedly, "Lucky is staying with me, I think. I hate to break it to you, Naomi, but that is not the ranger, as he was a dwarf and not a human..."
Hagrym |
Hagrym uses his ability to Detect for Evil as the group looks around the room. "That's a good idea, Naomi. Much better than your usual plan of knifing things and selling their fur. Perhaps the more civil sort are wearing off on you. Keep listening while I keep teaching and you might end up with half a soul after all."
Naomi Chadwick |
well if I bicker with Hagrym at least I won't be thinking about floating bloated black and blue corpses
Naomi giggles at Hagryms comment as she returns from retrieving the spear I hope as she treads water she responds
"well that's mighty kind of you Hagrym, once I get that snake skin turned into my new boots I'll have two bright shiny sole's and be able to toss these old ratty ones I'm wearing now, cause I promise swimming in swamp water is not helping these old boots at all! Speaking of getting out of the swamp water, are we going for the amulet or just gonna dog paddle here and shrivel?"
brvheart |
The amulet is not evil, but something inside the pile of bones is! Everyone roll initiative.
Naomi Chadwick |
was Naomi able to grab the spear or did combat ensue before she got to it?

Shandar
Cyric
Galerio is at the top of the round. Cyric, you see something moving in the bones. It is rotting and putrid, its body skeletal in places and its eye sockets glowing with red light.
Hagrym |
Hagrym will move forward to engage the undead, joining Ulfguard. I don't think I can get to it in one round, so I'll move as far as possible to get ready to beat it up next round.
