Yeah, basically... if it's core, I know it. If it's not core, I can probably learn it. And even if I don't know it... a Linguistics check pretty much guarantees I can understand any singular thing that's very important. :)

Is it just me, or is anyone else hard pressed to justify any stat above a 30?

I feel like I've gone exactly the opposite in terms of potential abilities.

This comes up in connection to this hypothesized "throwing people into the sun" nonsense. Garron, I know this wasn't your intention, and I respect what you are attempting with the character, but it got me more invested at looking the other characters here. I noticed, I am significantly underpowered for the abilities some of these characters are setting, and that's me being a character who I feel is on Par with high level legends.

Are people actually interested in the challenge of the game? I mean, I know we're in the level of demi-deific, but even the gods are hard pressed to break 40 on their stats. (Lending back to the days of epic level handbook)

He is deliberating at the moment. I messaged him and told him that I withdraw, since there is little way a Nightmare Lord Mournwrath Harbinger (Ravenlord)13/lots o' stuff who is the aspect of sorrow in the Nightmare World, living in the Fading Castle built open the shores of the Dying Seas of Nevermore, could hope to compete with these awesome characters!

Happy gaming everyone! :)

You also didn't spend any wealth on stat increasing items, it appears.
Maybe you just didn't put it.

But, yeah. 30 is the highest I see any of my stats getting for a while.

My highest is a 28 with everything else behind by like 6 or 7 points at least. I very much am interested in the challenges this game could offer and, like I've said previously, Barrett still has many, many weaknesses.

Physical stats are above 40 on a lot of monsters, actually.

Mental stats, less so.

Hm, actually, I feel comfortable. For one very simple reason. I took two spellcasting classes that lack behind their preparing colleagues already, and then added 2 templates that take up both sides of the gestalt to get those stats.

So while other people are gunning around with Level 7 spells, pushing attributes through single-side-templates, my highest are 2 known Level 5 per class+bonus spells(mystery, curse, bloodline).

As said, Yin is definitely hard to kill...and thats good because she's careless and somewhat...unthinking, in the way a small kid playing on the street is unthinking.
But she'd have a hard time doing any more than lock down an enemy.

The way I see it: It's not so much what your stats are, it's what they let you do. In Yin's case, they let her survive. Pretty much most things. And they let her support with what she can do because even the lower-level stuff becomes sufficiently powerful. But by herself? Yeah...survive. Thats it.

I figured the race builder stuff is already quite powerful—we've been reforged by the stair as it is into powerful superbeings—that the only reason to take a template is that your character is some sort of divinely-mutated superhuman.

I'm more a fan of the "normal folks from normal worlds who got here with skill and talent and magic" side of the setting, and went with that in my character (highest stats are 22/18/18), but then again, my equipment and feats let me rage for +12 Str and Con, which I plan on describing in... interesting ways.

@Yin: +10 to a spellcasting stat is far, far more powerful than a single tier of spells. (Among other things, you're getting more spells/level than if you had two more levels in that class, and if "+5 to saves, +1 spell level" were a valid Metamagic feat I'd prepare every single spell that way)

I know it's powerful. But if you look at her spell list, you will find that she has Acid Arrow, Scorching Ray, Black Tentacles, Phantasmal Killer, and Magic Missile. I think that about sums up her offensive potential.

She can blind you, she can exhaust you, she can make allies charge you telekinetically, put you in an illusory web. She also can enlarge allies, protect them from energy, magically enhance their weapons, give them freedom of movement, Restore them, Breath of Life them, etc...

And you seem to forget that there's also builds out there with e.g. Int Stats of 40, gained via single-side templates.

So those guys are rocking Level 7 spells from their oder side, with higher DC's than me, and got 15 skill points per level as cherry on top.

So no, I hardly feel bad about my own awesome charisma.
Also you will find I spent quite a few points in race builder on things I could easily have aquired otherwise, by template or spells.
With her Stealth skill, Yin would not even NEED at-will invisibility. But it fits her. With her spells, she would not NEED a natural fly speed. But it fits her.
Other people used Race Builder to pump up their attributes and load up on immunities.

So no, not feeling bad there, either.

In the end, I would possibly feel bad if I was top of the line here. But as long as there's other people who are casting higher level spells with a higher primary attribute, no, I don't feel I need to justify my stats to anybody.

I'm ok with it because he is supposed to be a giant. Have you seen their strength scores?

Ok, here are my selections.

1. Monkeygod, who has corresponded with me about his character.

2. Tenro's Mineire

3. Johnnycat93's Barrett

4. Bigrig107's Sashin

5. Billybrainpan's Garron

6. Gyrfalcon's Oneidros

It was REALLY hard to decide between the submissions! I might open up another table later, if it looks like I would be able, but regardless I will keep you all in mind in case there are any drops at a later point.

WWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Congrats to those that made it!

I don't recall seeing a single submission that was not absolutely awesome.

Coolio.

Y'all have fun!

Awesome, I can't wait.

I will be putting up a new campaign later and will link it here for those selected. Those who were not selected, feel free to remain in discussion, or go to gameplay, and roleplay as much as you like.

Thanks for letting us know GM, sorry I was not picked but you have to pick the PCs you think will work in your game, that is always understood.

Sorry to see you did not make the cut Yin,
I really liked your PC.

I guessed 3 of my favorites. Congratulations, have fun.

Good luck to everyone who got in.

Now, about that Vampire Way of the Wicked game you were talking about, Zoruugasz... ;)

Enjoy, and good luck!

GM Merchant, how does your world compare to the diceless game of the same name?

Awesome!

Glad you picked me.

To those not picked, sorry. Y'all all had great submissions!
I, personally, couldn't have chosen just six!

WOOT!

GM-MZ, thanks for the vote of confidence! It looks like a terrific party...and of course lots of excellent applicants that weren't able to make it in this time.

Looking forward to jumping in.

Thank you for the opportunity.

Hey Monkeygod, whatcha playing?

Occultist, aka Binder. I have yet to pick a second gestalt class, but I am leaning towards Summoner. GM is cool with this, as I am waiting for the new Pact Magic book to come out as it includes archetypes for all the base classes along with at least the APG classes.

He's interesting in that race and template wise he is rather sneaky and rogue like, but class wise he is not fully built that way.

Yep, congratulations to all of you.

Pity, Sashin, guess we can't be shadow buddies after all.
And Mineire...just in case, keep those blueberries, ok?
Thanks Aannra, was great fun messing around with you in Discussion.

You guys go ahead and enjoy yourself :)

Silver Crusade

For anyone who did not get in in here and who dos not want to wait for a Second table,

Why not come and show your interest in my AMBER Game HERE

If I get the players I will start the game.

:)

Looking forward to playing with you all! And i'm sorry for those who weren't picked. If it was possible I would want to play with all of you, that was an amazing RP thread.

I have to admit I was very angry for various reasons and took a break from PbP last night, but that is past now and a sincere congratulations to all that were selected. And a sincere thank you for the opportunity GM Merchant Zoruugasz.

Until Swords Part! :-)

Yin approaches the Primal Dragon

"Well met, Mister Dragon. Is this the first time or the second time we talked? It's so hard to keep track of the order of events, no wait, I asked that the first time already, right?"

Yin seems to be lost in thought for a moment, then smiles at the enourmous Godlizard

"Definitely asked that the first time. Either way, don't be saddened the stair did not pick you. I saw that our time will come, too."

With that, Yin giggles, and shifts back to her own plane, finally having time to welcome Tasty, her Awakened Crystal Blueberry Tree, to its new home.

No kidding, I had so much fun with Yin in the Discussion already there's no way i'm letting her retire that easily :) She'll haunt these boards now and then, in the future. Also, Anderlorn, I hope whatever caused this anger is better now...

And naturally, also thanks to the GM for the joy he caused.

I agree Yin, we are having fun, as a Sand box game, GM if your making a new campaign thread, could you open up the game thread on this one. So we can have fun with the PCs we built.

GM Merchant Zoruugasz wrote:

Yin and others who would like to have some fun with the Pcs they built, would you be willing to play fun sand box game here.

In the same world setting just outside of events undertaken form the GM.
More fun things with PCs, etc.

HERE is my idea for the sand box game.

I ask as I just had an idea for a sandbox game.

It has two stages

Stage 1: Finding the MacGuffins

All players make a PC, and home world and a MacGuffin

A random table is made of worlds and MacGuffins
Rolling on the table the group travels to that world and that worlds player is the GM until the MacGuffin is found, Chalanges meet and collected. So the group can move on to the next world/GM

The Idea is that the group of players travel to each world in turn.
Each player then takes turns in being the GM while the group visits their PCs world.
For each player there is a MacGuffin for the group of players to get on each world, by means of challenges set out by that worlds PLayer/GM.
Once all the MacGuffin are found and collected. Stage 2 can start

Stage 2: Finale Batter
Each player creates a bad guy at the same level as their PC for the final battle

Round 1
A random table is made, and all players roll on it to see which bad guy the face off against.
All players fight one on one this round.

If they lose they do not die but what to see which players made it past the 1 on 1 stage.

Round 2
The fallen and standing go to lick wounds and try again, retool and come back again. This time they can Pick who they fight one on one.
Until ALL the bad guys are beaten one on one.

Round 3
If the team still can't beat the bad guys one on one then they tag team.
Two or more can take on each bad guy in turn.

Once all bad guys beaten, move on to final acts,

Do again or think up something new.

In this way we all do a little GMing, do some fighting and have fun in the worlds we make.

Silver Crusade

GM Merchant Zoruugasz, This just struck me, you said

"Imagine your world, in all of its sprawling complexity and simplicity. Now know that it is but one of countless many, an infinitude of parallel-but-different existences, each real to those who dwell within it but made more substantial only by the intervention of true magical power. However, all of these many worlds are but veils of the faintest, most ethereal matter... as if made of gossamer. For this reason they are called the Gossamer worlds."

you picked

1: Sorceror 1/Brawler 1/Champion 1 of Zon-Kuthon
2: Gunslinger (Pistolero) 13 - Shaman (Speaker for the Past) 11
3: Gestalt Battle Imp / Brawler 2 | Harbinger 13
4: Occultist, aka Binder\leaning towards Summoner
5: Witchwyrd 6 / Savant +0 / Cryptic 7 // Psion 5 / Force +1 / Metamorph 7
6: Mythic Champion 1 I Gestalt Barbarian (brutal pugilist) 11/brawler 12/advanced 2/giant 1

So seeing how the game of Lords and Ladies of the Gossamer is set in any type of world, High, mid or low tech, you could have saved me a lot of time by stating at the start you wanted only low Tech Fantasy PCs.

Just for next time, so possible players know what your after.

But I'm using advanced firearms and both my worlds should be considered at least mid-tech.

Really, I think you're the only one with a future-tech application (someone correct me if I'm wrong). You not getting selected is entirely coincidental and in no way reflects that the gm only wanted low-tech characters; most people submitted low to mid characters (and in the fantasy vein, because this is Pathfinder).

"I am not using firearms! And I did not get picked! I don't even use a club or something. Not even my fists!"

Yin and her Shadow spend some moments sparring as if to show the futility of applying physical force with her smale frame

"I'm sure it's because I'm different! They all always tell me I'm different! They never tell me how so so I have to get into their minds and find out but there's just words like mad and crazy which don't make sense because I'm completely normal compared to them while all of them are kind of really weird!"

Following that, Yin, while flying, assumes a Lotus-sitting position and hovers

"I'm on strike now, you hear me, stair? Just because of all these mi-no-ri-ty quo-tas(If Yin says something like this, she just picked it up somewhere in context and has no idea what it means) I did not get a chance to shine. That stupid other Acirassi at the bar that was not even one. If she had not shown up I would definitely have gotten picked for being a minority too. I'm like, the tiniest minority here. And I am NOT going to move away from here until I have a satisfactory explanation."

Moments later, Yin hears some rustling in a bush nearby, and stops hovering to rush over

"YAY, Mr. Hedgehog, do you want to fly with me? We can dance the night away!"

Saying that, Yin uses Telekinesis to move the Hedgehog as her dancing partner, doing a flying waltz in the moonlight with her helpless co-dancer

Perform Dance: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (18) + 20 = 38

You have any idea how incredibly whiny this sounds? Did you ever stop to think that its not the level of your tech, but that you're submission just didn't excite the GM? He actually is rather fond of tech, sci-fi, and all the things that come with such characters.

Silver Crusade

I was well aware of the forms any criticism that would come my way, I was not surprised by it them in fact, Monkeygod just won me a $1, I bet that you would be one to post a put down to a fellow RW player here and you did. Your a little to predictable.

And you did not fracture in the fact I fully realise my comment will Defiantly mean my PC will not be picked for any future slot OR table Monkeygod.

getting picked was not why I made it, I made it to highlight this point of lacking representation of high tech worlds and suggest the GM seek a high level tech PC to open up representation.

The game setting has at it core a gamete of represented possible worlds but in this game its stilled at a half. Low/mid Tech - to mid tech.

That is far comment as its the truth. It dos not matter if I was the only High offering good or bad, others can still offer replacement and if there is a second table table PCs for that.

I stand by my post, if you don't like it, then that's your problem not mine.

Easy now,

This has the potential to go sideways quickly.

Jonny, your accusation has no foundation or evidence. If you don't agree with the GM, PM him or move on. Making comments here only serves to antagonize others and disrespect those who accepted the decision in a more...graceful manner.

You stand nothing to gain by making your claims public.

Quote:
I made it to highlight this point of lacking representation of high tech worlds and suggest the GM seek a high level tech PC to open up representation.

Why do you assume all possibilities should be equally represented? The GM made it clear at the beginning that applications would be assessed on merit alone. As Yin already pointed out (rather humorously): this is not a scenario in which to apply affirmative action.

It is a game.

Played for free.

Using your imagination.

It has literally nothing to do with whether or not any group is represented within the PCs. Unless you also want to complain that your character was the only Elf-Replicant.

Quote:
The game setting has at it core a gamete of represented possible worlds but in this game its stilled at a half. Low/mid Tech - to mid tech.

We are not limited in potential to the offerings given by the PCs. There is nothing stopping the GM/us from travelling and adventuring in a High-tech world.

Silver Crusade

Observations not claims,

I did not PM as I wanted to make comment to a wider group, that of the GAME makers who are monitoring this thread and applicant players. I have done that, and there is little more to say.

From here on I will move this over to a stand alone discussion thread,
all future comments about this will be on there.

Now made

General Discussion Thread - Pathfinder Lords of Gossamer and Shadow

There will be no more comments from me here, have a fun game, all the best to you all.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

You make a critical mistake here.

Assuming anyone gives a damn.

Honestly I have to agree with this, though maybe not put quite so bluntly.

The GM has the right to choose whoever he thinks will best fit his game, for whatever reason. That's why he's wearing the GM hat and the rest of us were trying to get in.

Stupid Monkey the Stair wants wrote:

"You guys are SO mean. I hate you hate you hate you HATE YOU!"

Pouting, Yin crosses her arms in front of her chest and turns to Barrett

"I have merit! Plenty of it! In fact i made a jam out of it because i had too much left over last time I checked what Season it was! I got several glasses of merit jam in my attics cellar! So don't say that, it's not nice!"

Then Yin angrily turns towards the formless Divine Monkey

"And you, sir, I'll have you know that I'm very exciting. I had people scream and wave their hands and everything and they wanted to come get an autograph of me only they got confused and run in the wrong direction and ended up accidentally locking themselves up in their houses but they were plenty excited about me all the same!"

Having spoken those words, Yin flies off into a dark corner, moments after, soft sobbing can be heard from there until she forgets why she was sad and starts laughing because her Shadow tickled her to cheer her up.

I totally understand that Yin is rather...special, and may not have been what the GM was looking for/wanted. But I prefer to see it that way: People may have had great ideas/applications, they may have been exciting and interesting. But maybe it simply did not fit in, or another application in the same vein was EVEN better than a great one someone else made. Or, the way a character _IS_, interesting or not, is not something GM sees working out. That way, even great concepts of all sorts may not get picked. I am not specifically saying that including Yin, but generally. I just felt maybe I should also state an opinion out of character here.

If you are angry about the selection, you need a break like what I did. What you are really mad about is all the work you put into a character and you didn't get picked or maybe this is your 5th or 10th time being not selected. Remember this, it's only a game and if you are not having fun, take a break or focus on something with a better ROI.

@Jonny: Clearly you are (understandably) upset about not being selected for this game. That being said, it is always the GMs decision who gets in and who doesn't. If being high tech would have made him biased against you i'm sure he would have said something. From your post history it looks like you haven't been on the these boards long and I would like to make a plea that you be gracious about people's (especially GM's) decisions and opinions. I have been here for a little over two years and have come to respect the people here and the way we interact. That's all I have to say, thanks for reading.

Guy's I made this nice General Discussion Thread HERE So as not to take any more of Nice GMMZ's game threads up. Now I did so, so you could post your comments to me Directly, as you have chosen not to, I will take it, your posting here ate for each others benefit, I think to see who can try and toll me more.

Nice, real classy guys.

Now if you wish to say something to me, please do so by all means, but do it HERE on Pathfinder Lords of Gossamer and Shadow

I'll be there waiting for you, but I'm not holding my breath.

I really hope the GM comes back with that gameplay thread soon...

I'm not sure how much more of this I can take.

Exactly! This wait is killing me.

But I'm willing to wait, that's for sure.

Just need to chime in that this post REALLY fits great with your avatar. He always has this "So done with your S***"-look. Like, not even worth a facepalm.

@Sashin: Same here, Sashin. I won't stick around forever reading it, but I'm really intrigued to find out what he has in store for you, and will definitely follow the story progress for a few pages.

I shrug it off. Am I gonna die without it? We all make risks everyday. Risking our time to put an effort.

Frankly, this is indicative how we deal with problems, IRL.

I for one. Move on. Cope or argue. That's your time doing so.

Thank you for those mature enough to be polite and understanding.

Enjoy your game.

I'm not sure when the GM is planning on posting the gameplay thread but I won't be able to post from tomorrow morning until sunday afternoon.
