On the first day of his return, his vassals presented themselves to him. That was when he met young Sebastiana. She was sixteen years old daughter of one of his landknights - and Dagobert was smitten with lust for her. He made an offer to his knight - a sack full of rubies for her brideprice - and in a fortnight the bells on Morav Cathedral were ringing in celebration of their marriage.
Sebastiana was a shy girl. Beautiful, but terrified of her strict older husband, the only thing she wanted was to fulfill her duty and give him a son. Soon she was pregnant with child, but Sebastiana was young and frail of health, so she miscarried.
The girl was devastated and Dagobert hid his grief by hunting and training his dogs. He was away on hunting trips for weeks at the time and Sebastiana grew lonely and afraid that her husbands will reject her.
One of her maids, a fey and gypsy woman who came to Morav Castle as Dagobert's camp follower, approached her mistress one night, talking about an old women who could help her to quicken with a child. Young Sebastiana went on Calvaria Hill, to the witches hut, and drank of strong herbs and potions, while watching the flames making shadows dance. The last of her delirious dreams that she remembered was a shadow with red-glowing eyes bending over her.
Soon, her belly swelled.
Dagobert was happy beyond words. He showered Sebastiana with jewels and silk, fulfilled her every wish. On the last day of the eight month of her pregnancy she went into labor. Dagobert was fearful because his wife was poor of health and she went into labor whole month ahead of time, so he paced in front of her rooms. Six hours later, he heard midwife screaming. He ran into his wife's room - and saw his child. It was a beautiful baby boy, the most beautiful baby he has ever seen, with wisps of silky black hair. But that was not all. The child was born with full set of sharp teeth and vampire-like fangs, dark-red eyes, small horns on his forehead and six finger and toes. The child was silent, watching the room around it with intelligent eyes.
Dagobert instantly realized what has happened. After all, he grew up listening to the stories of the Skull With. Maddened with grief, he drew his blade and stabbed his wife through the heart. When he drew his golden greatsword, named Justice, from his wife's body, the blade turned black and a single drop of blood fell from it - on the child's face, beneath his left eye. Almost instantly, the drop of blood solidified into a tear-like shape, that glinted as the purest of rubies.
Seeing what he has done, Dagobert threw away his sword, went to the tallest tower of his castle - and jumped.
On the day of his birth, young Damian lost both of his parents.
Soon after that, the county was confiscated by the crown. The castle remained Damians, since no one wanted to live there. Servants left the property and only an old warrior-priest remained. As Damian grew, priest instructed him in the ways of warriors and scholars, in humility and justice, and finally - in his family history. On the day of his 21st birthday, old priest presented to Damian his father's blackened sword and told him how his mother died and how his father died. Young man took the sword, renamed it Vengeance, and went to see the Skull Witch...

Thanks for you background. This is quite a complicated character you've created but as long as you know what you can/can't do, I'm fine with it.
Added to the list.
I realize there is a lot of different abilities, but he's rather simple to play in combat mostly doing shield bash and trip attacks. The multi-class thing is the way I built him originally and I saw it more as his evolution based on the happenings around him than taking more classes. He's just taking levels in Erik that's all. As for keeping track of all his other abilities I will definitely have no problem with that. I could almost play him without a character sheet, hes been in my head so long. I also plan on posting regularly enough to deal with the attacks of opportunity and reach he will most likely be sporting quite frequently.

Dotting for interest, I'm thinking about an Oni-spawn urban ranger, key words; stealthy/perceptive/trapfinder/switch-hitter.
1d100 ⇒ 53 You possess the scent special ability
1d100 ⇒ 41 You possess spell resistance equal to 10 + 1/2 your Hit Dice.
Too bad I can't select both... I'm going to mull it over and get back to you :)

I made a mistake with Erik's stats. His cha does not have a penalty. His real Stats should be.
Str:18 (17+1 from Level) 13 points
Dex:16 (14+2) 5 points
Con:14 (14) 5 points
Wis:8 (10-2)
Int:14 (12+2) 2 points
Cha:10 (10)
I also realize that he wont be able to make his concentration checks so I made his cha 10. I'm going to have him just cast his spells with wands mostly. SO to add to his combat strategy. He will have 2 spring loaded wrist sheaths. In one will be a wand of vanish. In the other A different wand depending( most likely expeditious retreat, or grease.) These wont see much use when he is shield and whipping, but he wont always be shield and whipping.

Any suggestions regarding favored enemies? I'm guessing Outsider (evil), Undead and Monstrous Humanoids.

Llelian wrote:Thanks for applying. I have one request for your background. for the moment the background is intriguing but can you add some more about why the character would come to the desolation? One other question is for the next levels, are you planning to go more oracle or sorcerer?** spoiler omitted **
The current plan is to continue with sorcerer for the next levels.
Thanks for the answer.

This look fine to me. I just need you to tie your background more to the setting and the dreams. Has he got clues the skull witch hails for the desolation or Tsar ?

Don't worry about exact build yet. I'll review them after selection. I'm just looking for a feel of the character.

scranford wrote:The background looks nice. I would prefer you to expand it a little more. Just another remark for you. The rogue talents you've taken are all ninja talents. You'll have to change them eventually, but that can wait after the selection if you're selected. In the mean time for my understanding, can you confirm you intend to go for a range fighting rogue?had always lived on the fringes of Bard's gate. Just because of her looks, and her unusual features she was hated, and feared. But other things stalked the streets and back ally's of Bards Gate. Things that were both more numerous, and less wholesome, than her cursed infernal heritage...And someone had to hunt them...so she did.
Dire rats, baby killers, rapers, murders...someone need to remove them from the streets, and someone was always willing to pay to have it done. It wasn't the most lucrative or fulfilling job in the city...but a girl's gotta eat. Then the dreams started. Where was this place? Did it exist other than in her dreams? Why was she feeling this irresistible tug to head north of the City? Could she expect a better life?
Finally the urge became overpowering, so packing up her gear she headed out of the city. And as she came closer to the source of the call, and the dreams became more vivid, she became more worried...Could she resist the call to join instead of help stem the tide of this evil calling.
Rough Concept
** spoiler omitted **...
Sure thing. I should get some time to do that later today, or tomorrow. Definitely going for the Ranged Rogue. The talents I chose were displayed in HeroLab as available for the rogue. I'll have to research and see if that's true, however if there are no Ninja's then obviously there are no Ninja talents :-)

I'm going to take that too heart and focus on the background/personality rather than build though the build does give me a basis for said background. Conundrum?
Anyway, after reading about the gods of the necromancer games I'm going to aim for a female ranger worshiper of Freyja, I love the huntress feel of the goddess and I think she'd hate undead and as Orcus is the Lord of them I think it would make a better fit into the theme of the world.
Oh, and I'll probably go for the trapper archetype and with ruins as favored terrain. The city were heading into is a ruin right?
Btw, a question more suitable for when we flesh out the builds but this will be combat/hazard/trap heavy rather than social heavy right? The answer would affect my feat/skill selection.

For the first question, ruin is not a favored terrain. You can either have city or underground(which comprises dungeons as well). But to be fair, you won't reach the city right now, so desert or mountain can also fit for the desolation.
The whole stuff is combat heavy. but there are some social interactions, specially at the beginning and less so afterwards. But don't worry about skills right now. that's something you can alter afterwards. Same thing with feats.

Okay, I've got twelve full submission already, plus one or two partial.
I'm going to be off line for the next two days, but the recruitment is still open till the 6th as I've stated. However, I won't be able to answer questions.
I'll then make my choice over the week-end and open the discussion thread for final character building.
Kyras Quinta |
I can't seem to get the ranger concept together in my head but I can't seem to get rid of this one. Presenting Kyras Quinta, a middle-aged Oni-spawn Cleric of Freya with the War (Tactics) and Healing (vanilla) domains, a veteran of the war on Orcus. I'm leaving the crunch be for now.
'Amazing.' Kyras thought as he sat on the grey, hewn stone steps leading up to his small wooden chapel which sat on a small hill overlooking the hamlet of Scourstone Hollow and stroked the lamb distractedly with his thick fingers.
His hamlet and his people he thought as he looked down at the people going about their daily business, tending fields, vegetable gardens and sheep.
Scourstone Hollow was a little hamlet nestled in a forested valley surrounded by mountains. Small, quiet and out of the way. Though the people were solely human, prejudice as they can be, they had reluctantly accepted the monstrous cleric of Freya, arriving in the night all those years ago with his letter of introduction from the aging Matron Mother Amala Claybrough, High Priestess of Freya and daughter of this very hamlet.
Looking down at his over-proportioned hand Kyras was still amazed that they hadn't driven him away right then and there.
Though Kyras was human in shape everything about him was big and exaggerated. His mouth was overly large with broad, blunt teeth, his chin pronounced and his nose a flat, hooked thing squatting between his beady turquoise eyes. His limbs were long and bulging with muscle ending in square, stubby fingers and toes. His features were, for a lack of a better word, ogrish.
But his peace was marred of late.
Marred by nightmares. Nightmares of fighting an unbeatable war, of evil awakening from deep slumber. Nightmares of fields riddled with human bones, picked white by carnivores. Nightmares those bones rising and taking up arms. Nightmares of darkness engulfing the light.
He awoke night after night, howling and sweating in his bed, to the crushing finality of the darkness conquering.
The dreams had changed the past few nights, a light had entered them. A wolf had come to his aid before the final blow of a foe. A shining hawk had screeched in the night sky, begging him follow. And together they had shown him a place he recognized; A hill outside Bards' Gate.
Kyras knew he was being called, he recognized the shapes of his Goddess instantly. Not a shadow of a doubt remained in his mind, war was coming and he was being called to arms.
Putting the lamb down Kyras stood and said his final silent farewell to the hamlet of Scourstone Hollow. Turning round with a purpose to his step he went to gather his gear and set out on his journey.

Nothing had ever come easy for Winnjet. Shuffled from one relative to another in her infancy, then one orphanage to another in her adolescence, she finally had enough at the age of 11, and took off on her own. You had to be smart and tough to survive alone on the streets of Bards Gate at any age, and at eleven the odds were not in her favor...but survive she did.
Quick of mind, tongue and hand she made do as a kitchen scullery maid in the Bards college, but this was too monotonous and boring for such a curious lass. She soon found a small cubbyhole to live in near the Temple of Skilled Hands, and though she wasn't officially supposed to be there, many of the acolytes knew of her, and would "Accidentally leave a bread crust, or a hunk of moldy cheese, or a few coopers where she could find them. She even made friends of a sort with one of the acolytes, a young lad named Nomar, and he taught her her figures and how to read. In return the temple was the most rat, bat, and bug free place in the city.
Soon her reputation grew, and people found ways to get hold of her to help them with their "pest" problems. She finally had the means to rent a room in an the Hidden Lady, and things were looking up. Then the dreams started.
No longer able to get a good nights sleep, her work began to suffer. Finally three weeks behind on her rent, she realized that unless she followed this vision, and tried to seek out it's source that she would get no rest. So she began her journey. And, the first night on the road the dreams ceased.
Graice Demoneye |
Graice sat in his small shack in the town. Ahh this is peaceful. I will need to head out for my training soon, so i better enjoy it while it lasts. He was about to enter his Paladin training, under an order of Paladins who worship Muir. He started to sharpen his bastard sword. He trained for a while, and gained considerable favor with the goddess. But he soon found himself the manifestation of a whole slew of bloodlines, about to erupt in a mass of arcane energy. Draconic and Abyssal blood raged through his veins, in addition to his demonic blood.
The Draconic, however, was very strong. Stronger than either of the other two. He found himself very resistant to fire, able to grow two different looking sets of claws, and even cast some basic spells. He took it all in stride, honing his Arcane talents even further. Suddenly, he began to feel different. He felt his skin toughen, his
Dragon blood grew even stronger.
He was turning into one of the beasts himself. It had only begun, but he felt more powerful. He wondered what he had done to offend Muir so much to cause her to do this, but instead of viewing it as a curse, he looked at it as a blessing. Dragons are really powerful creatures, maybe I will get really powerful through all this.
The dreams started not long after that. A dark, twisted city always loomed in the background. He stood looking at it, wondering what was happening. Then, he heard a voice. You were chosen, Graice. You can stop it.

I've come up with a selection. I'm sorry I cannot take everyone on board because most of you did a really good work with their background.
