As dusk settles over yet another battlefield and the scavengers descend upon the lost raucous cheering and laugher can be heard in stark contrast to the bleak fields. Half a mile away the lights of large bonfires illuminate the skies with a fiery orange glow and spread colossal shadows playing across the bodies.

Between these bonfires sits a mighty pavilion made of thick leather with one side viciously torn open like a gallery and within this tent sits a mountain of a man with deeply etched features half hidden by his unruly blond hair staring out silently at nearly two hundred men and women who have flocked to his banner, a mighty bear perched upon a mountain, cheering and feasting the days victory over yet another upstart Hobgoblin despot. Their mirth doesn't seem to touch him as he stares out clutching a forgotten stein of mead. Beside him sits an older woman with similar features but upon her face can be seen both the joy of her companions and concern for her leader who sits alone among all his friends and company. A light touch upon his arm in hopes of breaking his reverie becomes a sudden white knuckled jerk as the woman's head snaps back and her eyes roll into her skull and a deep man's voice reverberates from her throat.

"The white winds call and pacts lie broken. Where the sons of the Ursine ruled they shall again for the North beckons and misery follows those who heed not our call!"

With that the woman collapses at the man's feet and all who sit there stare silently at their leader. As he kneels down to check upon her. "Toopil, Binar take Juliada to her tent she needs rest."

Two middle-aged men with both Ulfen and Keleshite features stand and carry the woman away as a young man with pale grey skin and pointed ears approaches. "What does this mean Savol?"

"It is what I have waited twenty years for Nayl. Make ready, we head north at dawn."

---

Almost one year later a caravan of dozens of wagons and carts sits waiting in the snow on a barren land void of any landmarks. Waiting for one man who walks ahead carving his way through the knee high snow as other men would walk through a field of grass. He stops about two hundred paces out and takes a huge breath before bellowing, "I'm HHHHOOOOOOOMMMMMEEEEE!"

The last word echoes far into the night.

Welcome to the Lands of the Linnorm.

The Kodiakborne Line:
Unusual amongst the Ulfen, ancestry is very important to the Kodiakborne who can trace their lineage back to Ungbhol Kodiak friend and champion of the first Linnorm king over 5000 years ago. The Kodiakborne commanded a large territory east of Grungir Forest, much of which was claimed by the witch queen Baba Yaga during the Winter war 1000 years ago. Since that time Ungbhol' s descendants have tried several times to reclaim their homelands and failed and have lost much of their standing. Savol's great grandfather, Yorin, was the last of their line to claim the title of Linnorm king over 150 years ago and died defending against an Irrissen attack. Savol's grandfather, Sabior, was a thane to Hagreach's last successful Linnorm king and his father, Unther, was a powerful chieftain responsible for almost twenty towns directly on the border to Irrissen.

When Savol reached adulthood a speaker (someone who can commune with ancestors) appeared at the celebration telling all present that unless Savol left the North and could not remain for more than seven days until his ancestors summoned him back his line would die out and the North would forever be covered by the witches of Irrissen's unnatural ice. Believing himself to be cursed Savol left that night without telling anyone and since that day has never spent more than one week each year in the Northlands.
