Joza Fersig |
I definitely don't mind swapping places with Pekoe; maybe have Dav and Rahiv in the middle with Zinli and Joza at the rear? If not, I'm happy for her to be in the middle so she can reach front or back relatively quickly if need be! Updated our respective placements on the map.
Realizing that Pekoe needs to be up at the front if she's to scout properly, Joza falls back to allow the gnome to squeeze past her. As they prepare to forge ahead into the unnatural dark, she strains to listen for anything that sounds amiss.

Davlamin Glimmergaunt |
I like that setup Joza.
DM Lil" Eschie |
Zinli Steelworker |
"I can hear something. It's an animal... Growling. Not to far from us. I think it comes from the tower nearby."
Realizing that even if she couldn't see anything even if she stretched herself, the gnome looked embarrassed:
"Um... Guys? Sorry to bother you, but I can't shoot or see if Davlamin and Ekran are in front of me..."
Davlamin Glimmergaunt |
"Oops! Sorry about that Zinli," he whispered as he moved to the side to give her some room to see.
"I'm afraid this is very old...actually ancient magic and extremely powerful. Almost as old as the world itself. I highly doubt I or anyone else can ever dispel this magic."
Joza Fersig |
"I hear it too," Joza whispers. "Here Zinli, let's switch around so you're behind Pekoe and I'm behind you; that way you're not trying to shoot around someone tall and I can see to shoot over the both of you if need be," she continues, quickly shuffling around to her new position.
When Dav shares with them the nature of the magical darkness that impedes their sight, she sighs quietly. "Wonderful...and there are more foes close by. But I guess we don't have any other choice but to press forward do we?"
Pekoe the Crafty |
I can see up through any darkness spell, but not deeper darkness if that makes any difference.
Surely there's some way to disable this... A command word? A secret incantation? Maybe a switch on the wall?"[/b] Pekoe gives the entry way a look over, hoping to find something, perhaps some detailing or little indents in the wall, anything really, that might hide some trick that would get rid of the darkness.
"Give us some light, Dav," she says, still squinting around.
DM Lil" Eschie |
Even with her enhanced vision, Pekoe has an hard times seeing through the darkness.
Poor Ekran probably can't see anything, and won't stop bumping into objects or rubble until some light is provided.
Pekoe, as it's your first time in the Spire:
Light Consumption: Inside the structure, a magical effect swallows up light. Any light source, no matter how strong, illuminates only a 5-foot radius. The Azlanti builders created this magical effect to activate once
night had fallen, but it is permanently stuck in its night setting.
Rubble makes difficult terrain (cost double to move)
Davlamin Glimmergaunt |
The half-elf quickly explained to the little tiefling, "I'm sorry Pekoe but the magical darkness of this place swallows up any magical light and even natural light sources are hindered by the darkness. Not to mention I don't know that spell...yet."
Pekoe the Crafty |
Pekoe blinks at the elf. Then again. Not that he can probably see it. "Uh... so do we just feel our way in?"
Without waiting for a response, Pekoe uses the unnatural darkness to hide herself from potential eyes. If she can't see them, they probably can't see her. Sure, things can smell and hear, but how accurate can that possibly be?! (Clearly she's never met a police dog before *cough*)
Stealth: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19
She creeps forward, one hand on her rapier and the other on the wall to act as a guide.
I've moved her forward 10ft on the map, if the GM needs to put me back to make things happen, feel free!
Zinli Steelworker |
"I have a spell to create lights, but it's really ephemeral... Does anybody have torches?"
Joza Fersig |
"I've got some torches," Joza whispers even as Pekoe slowly advances ahead into the darkness. "Although I have the feeling that we may just have to press forward and hope for the best until we can clear this darkness," she adds as she passes one to Zinli.
Zinli Steelworker |
"I'm gonna light it. I think it would be better for Pekoe if she could have one too..."
Davlamin Glimmergaunt |
"Hopefully we don't alarm anyone or anything that's probably lurking around the corner. So let's be ready just in case."
The sorcerer mentally prepared himself while also hoping that there was a changing of the guard back at the entrance!
Joza Fersig |
"Sounds good," Joza nods. "Since it's so hard to see, we probably shouldn't let Pekoe get too far ahead of us anyway," she whispers, passing out torches to anyone else who wants them.
I think at this point we're more or less just inching forward until something happens, right?
Davlamin Glimmergaunt |
That was my assumption as well.
Dav nodded and replied, "My thoughts exactly. If she runs into trouble we must be ready to help her out quickly as possible. If we finish any battles quickly it'll give us some time to prepare before reinforcements arrive upon hearing the clamor of battle."
Ekran Batorówka |
Yes, just keep going until something jumps out and gobbles us up
Whispering to his friends.. Indeed, if trouble hits us let's put them in a pincer maneuver...one of us on either side. Maybe that'll give us a better chance of us hurting them more than they can hurt us back.
Ekran turns his head slightly back and forth, listening for danger...

You all hear something barking.
Trouble is, Pekoe hear it real close...
Zinli Steelworker |
"Get back, Pekoe! Quick!"
Holding her pistol firmly, Zinli is ready to cover her friend.
A bunch of pretty pink lights appear near the rogue.
Cast Dancing Lights, so Pekoe should be able to see something :)
Pekoe the Crafty |
"Shhh!"
Pekoe took a moment to consider her options. There was always the chance they could close the door and keep that gobbie and the gobbie dog in that room while they took out the other three. Ekran was probably strong enough to keep it closed. Unless, maybe she could lock it?
Is there anyway to lock the door to the room the goblin and goblin dog are in? And which way does the door open? Might be able to have Ekran hold it closed.
Davlamin Glimmergaunt |
Silently cursing under his breath, the half-elf took a deep breath as he readied himself, knowing good and well that a battle may take place.
Rahiv |
Rahiv thinks for a moment and looks at the others before running up to the door and planting himself behind it to keep it from swinging fully open. "Everyone, quick plant yourselves around the open door, give them only room to face us one at a time" he says in a whisper as loud as he dares.
Pekoe the Crafty |
Sorry! Yesterday was thanksgiving here so I was Awol with family!
Pekoe very quietly reached out a hand and slowly pushed the door closed, praying that the hinges weren't to squeaky or decayed due to age.
Slight of Hand: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
Stealth: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14
Once the door is shut, she'll step in front of it, trying to keep it closed should any retaliation come from the other side.
"Goblin and Gob Dog in there. Three more goblins in the next room," she whispered back in the dark to her companions.
Davlamin Glimmergaunt |
Dav cursed under his breath after Pekoe gave her scouting report. He nodded as he prepared to cast a magic missile spell the moment things got messy.
Ekran Batorówka |
Ekran nods at Rahiv's warning and positions himself on the opposite end of the door. As quietly as he can muster, he unfastens his shield and lays it by his feet. Gripping his sword in both hands he steels himself to attack the first thing that bursts through the entrance.
Ekran readies an action to attack the first thing that comes through the door.
Davlamin Glimmergaunt |
Dav nods in agreement at the undine's warning, making a mental note to be ready with his spells. The sorcerer was wishing however that he had some sort of weapon like a crossbow or something when he ran out of spells.
@Fellow Adventurers Remind me to buy a crossbow and some bolts when we get some money and treasure!
Joza Fersig |
Rather unwilling to run the risk of accidentally shooting her companions due to the oppressive darkness, Joza quietly draws her kukri and her trident as the group continues to creep forward. She turns her attention in the general direction that Pekoe indicated...
Zinli Steelworker |
Next time, think harder... You dummy, the gunslinger thought. She was angry at herself for always acting before thinking.
She silently walked by her companions' side, ready to shoot before the melee, as soon as everyone is ready...
If the Dancing Lights are still working, I'd like to move them towards the goblins during the surprise round, so that we could see them.
If everyone's okay with it :)
Davlamin Glimmergaunt |
Snap! It won't let me move my token!
Joza Fersig |
I tried to guesstimate where Ekran would be and moved him as well as Joza since both of them would move up anyway to engage. This action is posted with the assumption that Zinli and some of the others are going to shoot first before we close the distance to melee as well as Ekran also moving to engage.
As the group moves up, Joza holds long enough for Zinli and the others to take aim and fire on the surprised goblins before moving up with Ekran to engage the first one that she sees.
Attack (Trident): 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 + 2 = 23
Damage: 1d8 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 3 + 2 = 10
I think that's got it; accounted for favored enemy and moving, not sure what sort of penalties there are for the lighting. Let me know if I've goofed somewhere though! More used to playing casters than melee :)
Davlamin Glimmergaunt |
Am I able to see well enough to cast magic missiles at one of the goblins?
Joza Fersig |
Derp, knew I was forgetting something! Joza will go for the red one.
Attack vs. Concealment (20% Chance to Miss): 1d100 ⇒ 82
Zinli Steelworker |
Zinli moved forward, and aimed at the nearest goblin!
I'm going for the blue one
Attack vs Concealment (20% Chance to Miss):: 1d100 ⇒ 1
*sigh*
:'(
Davlamin Glimmergaunt |
Sighing a bit at the party's losing the element of surprise, the sorcerer cast his magic missile spell at one of the goblins.
Aiming for the blue goblin.
Magic Missile Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
