Tane Norwind |
Tane feels useful and decides to contribute, "Heirlooms. Plural. I think. There was a great battle that took place around these heirlooms, you've likely heard about it."
Sense Motive: 1d20 ⇒ 10
Tane suddenly feels less useful.
"Would thieves gravitate to the Razmiran temple? Is that a good place for us to start?"
Selene Vosmus |
"Charity work you say?" Selene touches her chin with her hand before smiling again, "Suppose it might depend on which side of the coin you are looking at. Thanks again for your help. "
sense motive: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3
Nodding to Tane's plan Selene adds, "I agree, the temple is as good as any a place to look for our suspect."
Tane Norwind |
Tane doesn't know anything about Razmir. He holds up his hand tentatively and asks, "Is there anything about Razmirian traditions or customs we need to know before we visit this temple?"
DM Lil" Eschie |
I don't follow Razmir's faith. I pray to Abadar by day, hoping people's stupidity won't get too far today, and to Cayden by night, when nearly all my hopes have been crushed after an hard day's work..
There is a glimpse of a smile when the Sergeant looks at Tane.
You'd better look for a priest, of Razmir or another god, if you seek some information. I'm usually not bothered by gods, only by the "faithfulls". Want to sign in the guards, maybe?
Essa Dwae |
Somewhat overwhelmed by their task and the chaos of the city and trying to find some clues, Essa follows the chat, but isn't able to offer anything particularly intelligent, and just grunts and nods when the consensus seems to be to check out the temple.
Selene Vosmus |
"Sorry, but regretfully we must decline your offer. Time is of the essence if we are to hope to catch up to this person." Selene interjects, before turning to address the others. "Should we pay a visit to the temple first then? As soon as everyone is ready that is."
DM Lil" Eschie |
The temple of Razmir lies near the center of town of Tamran, surrounded by a number of local businesses and wealthy residences.
Occupying an entire city block, the temple of Razmir is an imposing structure. Built of solid stone walls, the building stands two stories tall, with towers positioned every thirty feet along its circumference.
These towers rise above the temple itself, each crowned with statues depicting the Living God. The temple has almost no windows, aside from a tall, stained-glass window on the east end depicting the mask of Razmir.
The west end of the structure contains a courtyard, only accessible through a sealed barbican. Masked priests patrol the wall tops surrounding the courtyard, watching those below with a baleful attention.
Tane Norwind |
Tane likes the idea of being a guard. He considers it a possibility until Selene shuts it down. He frowns and keeps silent as he walks out with everyone. Once outside he mentioned, "You know, having the authority of a guard could become useful."
Selene Vosmus |
"Perhaps, and I imagine the offer still stands if that is something you'd like to explore. Guards are often considered heroes by a few. However, the obligations, responsibilities and accountability to the people shouldn't be abused for our own interests, and we may be just as able to find out what we need without the title."
Lenna Swiftfoot |
Lenna heaves a sigh of relief:
"You do want you know, but I thank Desna we didn't sign in. Becoming a guard, being asked for help every five minutes, having responsabilites... Wearing a heavy armor," the halfling shudders. "No thanks! Not a life for me!"
After a brief pause, the halfling adds:
"May be better than becoming a Razmiran though. Those people sure don't look like cheery jolly fellows."
Malya Vardigan |
Malya speaks. "Let's be careful what we say about the Razmiran's. I detected a hint of fear about saying anything too negative. How about we try to gather information around town and see if anyone needs help. Our lead got us here, let us see what else we can find here. We are strangers in town so let us try to endear ourselves to the townfolk here so they don't have a reason to mistrust us."
Tane Norwind |
Tane nods along with Malya. "What do you think about talking to the locals and trying to get an idea of what things are like in this area before we head directly to this temple? I know I don't know anything about Razmirian ways, customs, laws, etc and I'd hate to break one in our search and find ourselves on the wrong end of the law."
Selene Vosmus |
Selene nods with a smile. "Good thinking, let's try and learn what we can about our surroundings first. To Gar's then for some local information gathering. Maybe we can get started before our free mid-day meal with the captain." Selene moves to head out.
"I bet a place that prepares fish every day makes a fine fillet."
Malya Vardigan |
"I believe there was someone we could talk to there also. Let's move along." She would help usher them back to Gar's Last Meal.
Once there she would order them a round of drinks. Water for herself.
DM Lil" Eschie |
Following Captain Walren’s suggestion, you seek and soon find the Gar’s Last Meal.
It is a fine inn.. if you can get past the smell of fish.
The inkeeper is a one armed man, named Puglas, and you quickly see why the inn has this name: a giant gar is mounted above the bar.
Hearing Mayla asking for a round of drinks, and some water for herself, the innkeeper jokes
Water? Are you a fish, madam? My inn is known for serving fishes, but you might take the thing too literally. A light ale? Some fine wine, maybe?
Selene Vosmus |
"I'll take whatever's good and ready, but mind the price. I don't have picky tastes in drink so the expensive stuff is wasted on me." Selene says with a playful smile.
Malya Vardigan |
Mayla chuckles and smiles. "I am merely a fresh water mermaid enjoying a good drink." It is clear in her amusement and teasing tone that wasn't it.
"Ale tends to make me sleepy and wine makes me loopy."
Tane Norwind |
Tane grins at Malya' comments, "Aww, c'mon Malya! There's nothing like a mug of ale to help raise the spirits!"
Tane turns to the one armed man and orders an ale for himself. "I'd love one of your ales good sir!"
Remind me who our contact is here?
DM Lil" Eschie |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Back! the name of your contact is Reginar Lacklan, a Pathfinder and colleague of Cygar
The Innkeeper brings you the drinks ordered
New to the town, hum? You don't look like fishermen-and women. You don't even smell like fishermen.
The few clients laugh, in good humor, as Puglas turns to Tane
That's three silver pieces, boy. The glass of water for your mermaid is on the house.
He winks at Malya
Selene Vosmus |
"We certainly don't have the skills or the tools to make a living as fisher-people. That what most people do around here? Its hard work. Any other interesting trades here in town?"
Tane Norwind |
Tane withdraws the appropriate amount of coinage to page for his beverage and smirks at his 'mermaid'. He sips his beverage and then leans over and states, "Mermaid? That's a new one, eh? Mermaid Malya. Ha!"
When there is a break in conversation with Selene Tane pipes in, "So, my good man who serves all manner of fisher-folk! What can you tell us about these Razmirian traditions and customs? They are prevalent in this area, no? Anything we should be aware of while we are here?"
DM Lil" Eschie |
When Selene asks about illegal trade
Won't lie to you, there are been some..."free entreprise" around the lake. But I can't give names of customers, even to a pretty girl like you.
When Tane asks about Razmir and his followers
I'm more a Caidenite, if only by tradition. I don't like Razmirians, but mostly because they don't spend their money in my inn.
He chuckles a little, but the laugh seems empty
Don't know... I've heard things about them, and none of the things have heard were kind. So I keep my distance with theses loonies, and a sturdy club if they come too close.
He serves you, saying
I'll be back in a few minutes...
Malya Vardigan |
Mayla smiles at the bartender and would grin at him taking her water. Looking at the bartender she leaned in and asked quietly.
"Do you know a Pathfinder by the name Reginar Lacklan and where I may find him?"
Taking her drink she would head over to the table and lean in to whisper in Tane's ear.
"You know Tane, you don't know the meaning of subtle and don't draw attention do you?"
Watching the bartender leave she wondered why he would.
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
DM Lil" Eschie |
Reginar? Sure, I know him, one of my customers. Not really a regular but a good hunter,a trusted man and a valiant citizen. Good with a bow, too. He's most of the time at the Forest Bounty, our feast hall, but it's a lil"bit early for him, so you have time to order a second round of drinks.
He laughs, happy at the good natured joke
DM Lil" Eschie |
Another voice, from a customer, adds
You even have time to buy a round for everyone, showing some respect for your elders!
The friendly banter begins
Come on, Thay, you're not that much older than them!
So let them buy a round for the hard-working boys! Or for Cayden's sake!
For Cayden's sake! I'll drink to that...
general chorus
Me too!
The empty pints are banging on the table, getting slowly louder
Malya Vardigan |
Mayla heard the banging and watched everyone asking for a round and sighed with a chuckle.
"I guess this mermaid can buy one for Cayden." She pulls out a small pouch counting out silver to buy everyone a round. Smiling up at the bartender. "I may not drink but I will raise a small amount and drink that in Honor of Cayden."
Selene Vosmus |
"Looks like we might be able to afford some work to raise some coin." Selene says looking over at Malya's silver. "I wonder if there is anything quick and lucrative to do around here."
Malya Vardigan |
Diplomacy(Gather info): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14 Anyone want to assist
"Most of us are from Kassen actually. As for what we do for a living we are trying our hands at adventuring. Personally I love learning about magic. Are there any mages in town. Also what is going on in town right now? Since we are newcomers we would like to know who is who."
Selene Vosmus |
As Selene continues to talk with the owner and other patrons her natural confidence and optimism makes her interesting and easy to talk to.
Diplomacy or assist: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
DM Lil" Eschie |
people start talking, but nearly all at once
Kassen? Ah, my first wife was from Kassen! Good girl she was... But my second wife is better.
Isn't the old girl Lareeny a wizard too?/ Nope! She's a witch!/ A witch? You're sure?/ Sure. She changed me into a newt!/ A newt? (stunned silence)/I feel better now./(laughs)
(to Tane)
So , which one of theses girls is your girlfriend?
I don't like these Razmirian, and their god.Look more than thugs than holy men to me. Heard you had to give all your possessions to the Temple before they accept you as a priest.
Beware, cause Razmir could be in his Temple, and hear ya! You could get your big nose bloodied, Mizred, if not worse!
People join the Temple everyday, so maybe the Razmiran aren't such a bad loot.
Heard there was a mage named Corgull, or Corgill, in town. Not sure if he's still here. Was a dwarf, I'm sure of it.
To Freedom! To Nirmanthas, and to Tamran!
(shouts!)
Puglas, get another round of drinks!I'm paying this one!
To Malya, a mid aged man
Girl...If a was only a few years younger..
Selene Vosmus |
A tamer vision that is easily ignored, Selene blinks and looks to avoid looking at the bartender and his impediment after realizing she might have been staring. Between idle chit-chat and swigs of her drink she keeps an eye out for the captain, wondering if he would be here sooner or later and when worrying would be an appropriate response.
Essa Dwae |
Essa drinks her cider and reverts a little to her former less talkative self, the sensory overload of the inn and everyone talking and not being able to hear what people are saying makes her uneasy. She also sees Roguk in the corner bored and alternating between fiddling with a mug he stole and trying to steal food from people.
Malya Vardigan |
Mayla took in the conversations around her and hearing the man talking directly to her she blushed. Pulling out a paper fan she waves it at her face. "You are to kind."
Looking at him she would continue. "Do you know the mage they were talking about? Corgull or Corgill I believe his name is."
Lenna Swiftfoot |
"Isn't the old girl Lareeny a wizard too?/ Nope! She's a witch!/ A witch? You're sure?/ Sure. She changed me into a newt!/ A newt? (stunned silence)/I feel better now./(laughs)
Lenna grumbles:
"What's Reginald doing? I don't like it when people are late."
She stared down at her drink, and shrugs.
On the other hand, it's a good excuse to have a bit of fun!
Tane Norwind |
So , which one of theses girls is your girlfriend?
Tane does not expect this question, not at all. Why can't they ask about my amazing combat prowess and accomplishments?!
His forehead wrinkles as he debates an answer to this complicated conversation. He looks over at the women and holds his finger up to point, but waves it indiscriminately around the room without specifically identifying one. "I. You see." He clears his throat, "Quite clearly. So. You were saying about the women. I mean the Razmirian. The Razmirian women? Yes?"
Scratching his head he turns away from the questioner to face someone else, anyone else.
