Tane Norwind |
Tane pulls out his blade and prepares himself. He looks out at the water and shakes his head, "How... How are we going to combat a swimming ogre? Are is the boat in danger of being pulled under?"
Tane pulls out his bow and takes aim at the creature swimming under the water. He asks, "Should we attack or wait until it attacks? There is still distance yet, we should be able to weaken him before he gets here."
Tane looks back to the party for guidance, "Ladies?! What say you?"
How do I not have a longbow? Hmmm. Need to buy one in town..
Lenna Swiftfoot |
"Maybe there are water ogres. Just our luck," Lenna sighs.
She gets closer to the group.
"Darling," she answers to Tane. "The boat is in danger, whether it's going to be pulled under, sunk, or swallowed like a peanut. And unless you're the world's most polite opponent, I'd suggest firing first. And aiming well."
Suddenly, Lenna mutters some incomprehensible syllables, and her crossbow starts to shine...
Spell failure chances (5%): 1d100 ⇒ 63
Casts magical weapon. 10 rounds left.
Tane Norwind |
Tane takes aim and fires the arrow but doesn't account for the motions of the ship rocking and his arrow lands incredibly far off his mark. The fighter contemplates dropping his bow and retrieving his blade, but he is unsure he will be able to reach the ogre or not. Deciding it's a better option he switches out weapons to his longsword.

Suddenly, the massive creature seems to hesitate, then turns away from the barge.
It seems frightened by something..or someone?
You look at Selene, and for the briesfest moments it looks like she was both majestic and sinister, powerful.
Something in your brains, something you cannot control, make you step back from her.
You hear the voice of your Captain
What was that, by the Nine Hells? And is it gone?
Selene Vosmus |
Selene draws her javelin and creeps slowly to the side the ogre turned from with a few words in her usual strange tongue.
Stay on guard for a moment, it is hard to tell if the ogre will decide that we are not easy victims or if he will seek revenge for compelling him to flee.
Lenna Swiftfoot |
"Wow," Lenna lets out an admiring whistle. "You basically scared off an ogre who's now running to its mama. That's... Either awesome or terrifying. Surely both. I mean... Wow."
Malya Vardigan |
"She said to stay on guard for a moment. It is hard to tell if the ogre will decide we are not easy victims or if he will seek revenge for compelling him to flee."
To Selene.
"I told them what you said. I will keep on guard with you."
DM Lil" Eschie |
An hour later, the ogre still isn't anywhere to see.
Maybe he found another, easier victim.
FYI: that takes place on the third day of travel on the lake, so you are mid-way to the port (and had 3 day worth of writing scrolls)
Malya Vardigan |
"Well, Selene. You did well." She said and would smile hugging her. "That was awesome!"
Shifting she would grin and goes back to her inks and papers and pulls them out to start her work again.
Two Enlarge Person, and One sleep so far
Essa Dwae |
Essa goes back to basking in the sun or watching fish in the water or asking questions to the captain about the boat. Occasionally she works on some scrolls, but she has a pretty solid collection now and her hand was starting to cramp up.
Selene Vosmus |
Selene laughs nervously, "I didn't know I had that in me. Thanks for translating Malya, it's less frustrating knowing I'm not just talking to myself when I get like that."
'God's how was that even possible? Maybe it wasn't me after all?'
Selene returns to her thoughts of fancy, and occasionally looking over Malya's books and scrolls out of curiosity after Malya had mentioned crafting objects of magic.
Selene Vosmus |
Selene says something is celestial filled with concern.
Essa Dwae |
Essa rouses herself from her early morning meditation, during which she sometimes fell back asleep, "Wha?" Pulling the cover off her club, to illuminate things better, she stood and listened. She grabbed her shirt, tugging it on and made her way to the deck, prodding Roguk awake. She peers quizzically at the others who were also rousing.
On deck, she seeks out whoever is piloting the boat at these wee hours, "What was that?"
Lenna Swiftfoot |
Lenna awakes in a startle, and sighs.
"Did someone bump into something?" she calls out in a groan, grabbing her weapons and her pouch which never leaves her side. "Or slipped and fell face first?"
Tane Norwind |
Sorry guys, got swallowed up there.
Tane wakes up and scrambles loudly to his feet. He snatches up his sword and trips over his pack and crashes loudly to the ground with a string of curses. Forgoing his armor he heads to the sound of the commotion. He whisper-shouts, "What is it?
Malya Vardigan |
"Giant Frog."
Mayla seeing this....and knowing Essa's reaction and .....she shook her head. Calling on her magic she started to cast sleep on the frog but tries not to catch to many in the circle of it.
"Sleep my sweet friend, until morning's end. The day has yet to begin." She sang softly in Celestial as part of her spell.
Tane Norwind |
Tane won't mind if all the ladies forget to put stuff on! Actually on second thought, he would. Please come fully clothed minimally, dealing with Essa in these situations is hard enough.
DM Lil" Eschie |
As Malya begins her spell, even before the rest of her friends are on deck, the frog darts its long tongue toward the delicious new target
Vs Touch AC: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
The blonde mage is caught in the frog appendice!
Malya is grabbed, so will have to do a Concentration check (dc 18) to complete her spell! Rest of the group will arrive next round
DM Lil" Eschie |
Will save vs sleep: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1 Doh..
The frog's bulgy eyes close, and it slumps on the deck, dragging Malya with it, while the rest of the group comes to the "rescue".
You all hear another *croak*, and the boat is still stuck.
The captain and his second come to you, the man holding a lantern.
The Captain smiles and says
Oh, that's a big frog...Need a help with that sticky tongue, girl?
Malya Vardigan |
"Yes please Captain, I believe we are stuck on another one or a nest possibly. Unfortunately I only had one of those prepared. Essa loves animals so we try not to harm them if not necessary. Careful you don't wake it. The magic will only last a couple minutes." She would only then realize she is in her nightgown and flushes appropriately.
Essa Dwae |
"It was an accident, our method of travel, bumped into it. We don't want to harm the eggs. We will move immediately!"
"Come on everyone! Lets push the boat off the mud. Its where the frogs have their nest."
Essa leaps off the boat into the water and mud to push with all her strength to get the boat free.
Strength check: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24 RRAAAARRRRR ESSA POWER!!!
Malya Vardigan |
Mayla gets out of the sticky tongue and would carefully step back as Essa speaks with the animals. "I really hope we can end this because I only have one of those."
Hearing Essa talk about everyone pushing the boat out of the mud she hesitates. Not because of the mud, but because she wasn't that strong.
DM Lil" Eschie |
Tane jumps in the water, and tries to help Essa
Aid another: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Between those two, the boat softly moves, and gets back in deeper water. You leave the couple of giant frogs to their own business, and Nessa and Tane climbs back up on the boat
Malya Vardigan |
Mayla would look at Essa and Tane. "Well, I guess that is that. I wonder why we went aground." She gives Essa a hug before rubbing her arms. She probably wouldn't get back to sleep soon but she should get dressed in more than a nightgown.
Essa Dwae |
Essa smiles to herself at the frog conversation. Even in animals there are personalities and some intelligence.
Hugging Malya back, "Are you ok? You are covered in frog spit." Looking down at her own soaked and mud covered body, she shrugged and dove into the water to rinse off before the boat got on its way.
