Hey so here's the discussion thread. My real life friends can go ahead and check in here, chat about character creation and things. Perhaps even the applicants that they like.

Hey! I am starting to work on my alias for this campaign. Just take a look from time to time.

Female Human

Hey, checking in :)
My character is still a little rough around the edges... but she's coming along!

Male Human Monk (Zen Archer) 1

"Greetings, My name is Bromsen Stegard."

My character is ready to go.

What? Half-Elf Writer 1 / Dancer 1 / Chemist 1

Just a bit of a nitpick - your last feat should be Perfect Strike, rather than Precise Strike. Your attack roll with your unarmed strike should be +3, as its a finessable weapon, and the damage roll should be 1d6+2.

Also, two questions for you.

1. Look through the other applicants and choose two for your character to be connected to. That is to say, two that your character already knew prior to the beginning of the campaign.

2. Is your character an adventurer? Do they like adventuring? If so, why? If not, why?

Oh, and you have one too many skill ranks.

4 + 1 (int) + 1 human = 6

What? Half-Elf Writer 1 / Dancer 1 / Chemist 1

Welcome to the new players. Feel free to chat up my friends as you enter, they're all new to PbP. Please do offer advice and such.

Also, Lluvia, it appears that you get an additional feat. Weapon Finesse is free in this campaign, and its the only feat you have listed. Additionally, three more skill ranks? It appears that you have added favored class to skills, which should give you 12, and you get a free rank in a profession, craft, or perform skill.

Female Human Bard 2 | HP 9/9 Perform 10/10 Spells 3 | AC 12 FF 10 touch 12 | Fort +0, Ref +5, Will +2 | Init+2, Per +4

Oho! Made the cut! So yes, Shayliss Vinder here, famed minor Rise of the Runelords NPC, here to seek grander goals than setting up a hilarious little encounter.

Pretty sure I'm good to go here, just two things I need to double check-

How lenient are you on tweaking skill points as versatile performance gets up there in level? i.e. if I put points into Acrobatics and Diplomacy now, could I switch those over to other skills when versatile performance renders them completely redundant for me, or would they just end up being wasted?

Seeing as you're house ruling in free Weapon Finesse, are you also giving out free Agile Maneuvers? Doesn't really make a huge difference since I barely have more dex than str, and I'm usually going to be using a finesse-friendly weapon if it comes up, but I figure it's still worth clarifying.

Then I'll take Dodge in addition - to become a shadow dancer I need dodge, mobility and combat expertise. I'll add the free skill rank in perform dance, since I need that as well.

I am not sure what you mean with the skills... I have twelve skills.
1. Acrobatics +7: 1 Rank, 3 Class, 4 Dex, -1 Armor
2. Appraise +7: 1 Rank, 3 Class, 3 Int
3. Climb +4: 1 Rank, 3 Class, 1 Str, -1 Armor
4. Diplomacy +5: 1 Rank, 1 Cha, 3 Class
5. Disable Device +8: 1 Rank, 3 Class, 4 Dex, -1 Armor, +1 Trapfinding
6. Knowledge (nobility) +4: 1 Rank, 3 Int
7. Linguistics +7: 1 Rank, 3 Int, 3 Classs
8. Perception +5: 1 Rank, -1 Wis, +2 Elf, +3 Class
9. Sense Motive +3: 1 Rank, -1 Wis, 3 Class

11. Swim +4: 1 Rank, 1 Strength, 3 Class, -1 Armor
12. Use Magic Device +5: 1 Rank, 3 Class, 1 Cha

Add: Perform (Dance) +5: 1 Rank, 3 Class, 1 Cha (hrm... according to Hero Labs there is no armor check penalty. Is that correct?)

Well, what's the tenet? "True beauty comes from the inside"? Let's hammer some true beauty into our foes then. :D

I am curious whether you will manage to encourage Lluvia to use her newly found dance skill in public.

Just repeating this so we keep it in mind (that's for both Relverest and Shay):

Then we don't need the letter, we just meet and I tell you what I heard from travelling clerics of Desna.

Road trip buddies works for me, yeah. Shayliss finds these two (or, one of these two, depending who makes the cut and all) passing through town, grabs some extra supplies from her father's store for the trip, and in exchange has them do all the talking on the trip up so nobody tips off her overprotective pugilistic shopkeep of a father just where she's running off to.

So was there a letter, Lluvia, or did we meet in a clerical area? And Rel certainly encourages dance. I imagine he and Shay took the Varisian wagons down to Riddleport as a musical duo. We're putting the band back together, man!

Ohp, sorry, must have miscounted, Lluvia. I was very tired last night.

As for Perform skills, nope, no ACP. They're Cha-based, after all, as much as that makes sense.

I have a kind of hilarious story to tell about what happened to Shayliss Vinder in my own campaign, actually XD

Also, yes, please do tie in yourselves to each other. In addition to Bromsen, also, there's a CN human witch and a CN human barbarian, both female, joining us. The majority of our heroes this time 'round are women.

Hmm...two more points of interest. In the class bar of your profile, so I don't have to go hunting for it through your profile, I'd like you to put the following information:

class level x | hp x/x | AC x flat-footed x touch x | Fort +x, Ref +x, Will +x | Init+x, Perception +x, senses

Also, we'll be using the downtime rules kind of a lot, at least in the first chapter (and perhaps more beyond - it depends on what you folks prefer) so if you'd please garner at least a passing familiarity with them, that'd be great. They can be found here

Pretty sure there's a roughed out "all road up from Sandpoint in a caravan" thing worked out for us three random pickups. Would be nice to hear a bit more about the as-yet-unintroduced half of the party.

I've been meaning to really put those through their paces. Here's hoping it works out.

YES IT WOULD BE NICE TO HEAR A BIT MORE ABOUT THE AS-YET-UNINTRODUCED HALF, WOULDN'T IT?

Alright, my Shayliss story. I had just gotten a friend into my in-person RotRL game, and he was playing a tiefling inquisitor of Norgorber, NE. So he got seduced by Shayliss and she brought him back to her house, as per usual. He absolutely fell for it, and he got to the sexin' part of the encounter.

He succeeded on his Perception check to hear the dad coming down the stairs. The player thinks for a second. He says to me, "My equipment within arm's reach?" I tell him yeah.

He tells me that he grabs his shortsword, murders Shayliss, stashes her body in the back of the shop (underneath some trade goods and such) and then uses his alter self spell-like ability to turn himself into her. Despite his -3 penalty to Charisma, he rolls a 20 on his Bluff check that he was just masturbating (because he was still naked) and Ven gets something like a 14 on Sense Motive, and so when Ven disgustedly leaves, he just packs up his stuff in a little bundle and runs the f++& out of there.

Female Human Bard 2 | HP 9/9 Perform 10/10 Spells 3 | AC 12 FF 10 touch 12 | Fort +0, Ref +5, Will +2 | Init+2, Per +4

Well! Glad I didn't say "whatever it is, I'm willing to treat it as canon here." I'd imagine that would make the start of chapter 2 a bit weird for that group too.

When my group ran through that bit, it was the rogue getting into trouble down there. He had a rather brilliant approach, hiding behind various old boxes, moving only when Shayliss had him too distracted to be glancing about but... Ven literally was rolling nothing but 20s all night. "There's no hiding from Parental Super Vision!" may have been shouted at some point out of character. And then naturally the whole party just kinda started mythologizing Ven, pondering how he came to such great power while running a store, counting on him as a main line of defense at the start of chapter 4, etc.

Oh, and I just noticed that I'd forgotten to answer your earlier questions.

As for skill points, if you lose bonuses due to Versatile Performance, you can retrain without paying the gold cost (but still taking the in-game time to do it)

As for feats, no, Agile Maneuvers is not free.

Hi, yes, hello! I would be part of that half...

I'm very new to all things pbp, and pathfinder really, so please do be gentle with me... I am quite nervous! Maybe one of you lovely folks could find a connection between my character and yours?
Aine Background:
Aine Baldevia is one tough cookie. Since her beginning, she was fighting for survival. Her parents never had much, thus every little bit that she could scrounge up could mean the difference between life and death. She became very good at standing on her own from a very young age; fighting her own battles, taking care of herself. It wasn’t that her parents weren’t in the picture, but they had to focus on their own survival. She understood.
It was apparent from a young age how dog-eat-dog the world really was. For this reason, Aine mostly struck off on her own, rarely seeking company around a Shadde-Quah fire. She made decisions and choices for herself. Once her mind was made up, that was that.

Aine’s life has not been particularly exciting. She has spent most of it thus far exploring the Calphiaks and surviving. Once or twice she chased rumor of a dragon, but that never yielded any results. Mainly she travels from place to place on a whim.

One day she was sitting atop a mountain perch looking over the town of Riddleport, watching its patrons live their lives. A certain curiosity hit her. Most of her people are distrustful of the grimy town, but for Aine, it held a sense mystery. She had heard her people speaking ill of the town since she could remember, but she didn’t know a thing about it first hand. Aine had heard rumors of a booming gambling hall by the name of the Goblin’s Gold. This title only peaked her curiosity more; she herself had run into many goblins in her ventures through the mountains. That was when she settled it. She would see about this town, and this gambling hall. Aine was not particularly interested in losing all her coins, so she would find work in the hall.

Aine, are you a Shoanti, or just a super tough Varisian who hung out with them? Shoanti are awesome. I'm playing a Shoanti barbarian in a ROTR game and am truly enjoying it. The nice thing about barbs is that they are pretty easy to play. Rage, attack, say something Conan-like, then rest and let the cleric heal you up (and later, cast Lesser Restoration to remove fatigue). That'd be me--I'll have to get a wand in a few levels! (or the witch).

It would seem that Lluvia and Shay and Rel took the wagon down, unless Lluvia rode the waves down, in her mysterious elven ways. Relverest loves to meet people and hear their stories, so he and Shay and Aine could have met at various spots in Riddleport, or right in front of the Gold Goblin.

Hey, where'd everybody go?

Leinathan, do you have an opinion on Aasimar ages? Apparently they age slowly in the ARG, which is what Hero Lab spat out for me, but in some AP's they are more like human ages, and that is what James Jacobs prefers. RAW they age slowly. (except for certain AP's as mentioned...leading to a contradiction). Personally, I have never understood what elven characters have been wasting their time on for 150 years prior to adventuring (no offense, dear Lluvia) and am happier with a younger aasimar starting age, but I'll do what the GM prefers!

Pretty sure everyone's all set and good to go beyond waiting for our mystery witch to check in, and maybe strengthening some backstory ties.

Since everyone seems to be running with a variation on "just moved to the city" and nobody really seems to be going for an antisocial loner, I'm not too terribly worried about the latter. I'm a tad worried about our MIA player though.

leinathan happen to know what the story is there? Cold feet? Stuck on some aspect of character creation? Ready to go, just super shy?

Ooh, fun. Going with the whole "a true warrior shaves her head so there's nothing for an opponent to grab onto" bit?

Also, while I'm nosily poking around everyone's sheets, I noticed you're missing the str bonus to damage on your weapons, and don't have your BAB and saves filled in. Plus you seem to be going with two one-handed weapons. Still tweaking things, or just not used to what myth-weavers automates and/or playing barbarians?

My sheet automates BAB and saves out of the box, and I could pop in a quick bit to give you hit and damage values that automatically update with little yes/no toggles for rage/power attack/inspire courage if you want to save yourself a ton of math.

Female Human Bard 2 | HP 9/9 Perform 10/10 Spells 3 | AC 12 FF 10 touch 12 | Fort +0, Ref +5, Will +2 | Init+2, Per +4

Actually, I didn't have anything better to do so here ya go:

Super Fancy Auto-Barb Sheet!

Just by filling this in like a standard sheet, and switching the "NO" fields to "YES" when you have rage/power attack/my inspire courage running, this will, with no effort from you...

- Add the rage bonus to your Str Con and Will Saves (along with the AC penalty) when entering rage.

- Adjust those when you get greater rage.

- Accurately calculate your attack bonus and damage, taking into account if it is a "2" handed weapon, "1" handed, or off-hand (leave Hands blank), correctly factoring in the raw bonus on the weapon, your str (adjusted for rage), power attack, and inspire courage.

- Keep track of favored class bonuses to "skill" points or "HP" if jotted in the blanks there.

- Auto-adjust your saves, BAB, and Max HP, rage rounds, and trap sense every level-up... and for good measure, stick a rank in all the skills you have one in right now.

It does tend to look a bit ugly and run slow though. And I think I may have used an old version of this where having 30+ str bugs carrying capacity out and there may be an odd bug with temporary shield bonuses adding in wrong or somesuch. Still, saves a lot of math if you want to use it, and if you don't, I'm set for my next barbarian.

I found the purchase of Hero Lab to be totally worth it, and yes, barbarians do well with one big greatsword and one big club; alternate against enemies!

[img] Female Elf Rogue 4

I don't know. I have hero labs. For what it costs - all in all I invested like 100USD in it - it's simply not a good program. Sometimes it makes things a little easier, but still is very clumsy.

I haven't had a single one character above level 1 yet, for which I didn't mess up the starting money calculation in some way.

The output for BBCode is extremely brief and it doesn't even mention certain details like "Spells Known" or your deity or hair color (unless you're cleric). The whole user interface is slow, inconvenient and looks kinda makeshift - it spawns all kinds of unnecessary subwindows but is unable to have several characters opened at the same time and disregards the state of the art of UI design entirely. The whole update mechanism is a mess. And there is a lot more that bugs me. It would be nice for a free program, but for what it costs it's simply not enough. If I could spend 30 bucks and have all of pathfinder, or maybe spend 10 bucks a year it would be great. But I don't think it's worth it the way it is.

I was going to stop using it and simply do stuff with table calculation sheets myself, and google docs seems like a good solution.

Hey all, sorry for my absence, ive been working with some living situation drama and trying to get the people that are my friends into the game.

As for aasimar ages, i tend to go with the best of both worlds - they mature quickly, but age very slowly. In this way, the adulthood age is the same as a human's but the higher age categories are the same as an elf's.

HeroLabs...I don't really like. It's got some options missing. I just do all of my characters manually.

I'll be back this weekend to officially start this thing up, sorry for the delays!

I used to just use myth-weavers, but got annoyed with how there's no good way to track favored class bonuses with it, and decided to make my own. Then I figured while I was at it, it's easy enough to automate base saves and BAB, might as well list spell ranges, those are pretty standard, and one thing lead to another until it hit the point where adding more convenience features was slowing it down too much to be worth it. As is though, it saves a lot of number juggling while leveling.

Rel will be a young feller, then. Yeah, being born of human parents makes things odd otherwise.

And Sapphire, nice witch you have there. Her proclivities are...very Chaotic Neutral indeed. Cackle is especially nice when pairing with Misfortune; Evil Eye already will be a few rounds for you. EE is so versatile, though, as you can layer one type on top of another.

[img] Female Elf Rogue 4

Hm. I just got the "Chronicle of Rightousness" source book. It describes an entity - an Empyrial Lord - that befits Lluvia a lot better than Desna herself as Deity: Black Butterfly.

It's pure coincidence but her holy symbol is a black butterfly with a single star in the middle whereas I describe the variation of Desna's holy symbol that Lluvia uses as brooch for her mantle as black butterfly with shards of glass like stars on its wings. The Lord is closely tied to darkness...

http://pathfinderwiki.com/wiki/Black_Butterfly

However, Lluvia probably doesn't even know of the Empyreal Lords... but there may be a connection there. Maybe it isn't Desna personally, but her servant the Black Butterfly who watches over her.

Just two things about Sapphire -

First, check the bonus spells that one gets from having high ability scores - you should have two 1st-level spells/day due to your INT score.

Also, how did she become a witch?

What? Half-Elf Writer 1 / Dancer 1 / Chemist 1

So, in lieu of accurate guidance, and wanting to start this up before interest dies, I think I'll be going with the following:

Connections:

Lluvia and Shayliss - Having met in Sandpoint, the pair decided to travel together when it became clear that Shayliss was looking to leave Sandpoint and Lluvia was looking to continue her travels. Riddleport interested them both, and while Shay was just looking for a job, Lluvia was looking to follow up on rumours of something more foul, and tags along with Shay to the Gold Goblin in search of that information.

Aine and Bromsen - Aine was always of interest to Bromsen, when he first spotted her doing things like arm-wrestling men in taverns and getting into brawls over ale. He thinks she needs a calming hand, like he did, and she thinks he's a wuss that needs better protection, but they look out for one another and go to the Gold Goblin in search of jobs for each other.

Relverest and Sapphire - The young woman intrigued Relverest when he first saw her, and a few exchanged drinks and jests made fast friends of the two. She enjoys his music, when he plays, and he enjoys her displays of magic and her irreverent nature. The pair brought each other to the Gold Goblin for fun and for work.

Sapphire needs some crunch tweaking, and feel free to argue my proposed final connections, but I plan to post the first post today.

Alright.... errrm. Well, Lluvia's "true love" usually has something to do with rapier strikes. I hope Shayliss doesn't snore. Then again, Lluvia doesn't sleep, so it doesn't really matter.
