Mounted Combat (DC 35): 1d20 + 29 ⇒ (9) + 29 = 38
The second of the arbalests nearly strikes Spike, but Prazil deftly guides Spike through a juke that causes the projectile to glance off triceratops' headplate.

As the pair smash into the hold, Prazil whoops then looks around at the water rushing in behind and around them and yelps. "Back out, Spike! Back out!"

Spike fly: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (16) + 18 = 34

I'd considered just punching through the opposite hull wall and back out of the ship, but I'm presuming Spike would have lost too much momentum and that it's too cramped in here for him to be able to adequately charge. Back to the sky!

RE: Spike's AC - It's 37 if he's still fully in barding (33 is Prazil's AC), but if he isn't in barding (which would make sense given the circumstances) then his AC is 31

Either way, with that mounted combat check, Spike would have avoided both hits last round, but it'll probably be a bigger deal in the upcoming rounds. What do you think, leinathan? Barded or unbarded?

What? Half-Elf Writer 1 / Dancer 1 / Chemist 1

Good catch, Prazil. Thanks for the notice. We'll go with unarmored for now, 31 AC.

I'd like to see something from Keerek before I move forward.

Strangely, none of the dozen or so robed Denizens go belowdeck as their ship is rocked by a great crash, although a few of them turn their focus back to Spike and Prazil as the pair escape the rushing water in the back of the ship.

There doesn't seem to be an obvious Captain, nor even a helm on the deck of the ship. The Denizens are all dressed in various bits of concealing robes, although the styles are often different. They all seem to know what to do without being told, and rush the last few captives down into the deck.

Prazil notices, as he pulls away from the ship's stern, that its boards begin to pull together of their own volition. It certainly isn't instant, but it will only be a couple of minutes before the breach he created is sealed.

The purplish blade at the prow of the ship begins to glow ominously, and space seems to warp around the twisted and strange ship... The arbalests which fired at Spike now turn towards Keerek.

Oh, duh. I have celestial armor.

Heidan summons the strength of the bull and -- activating his magical armor -- lifts Thkrull into the air with him, flying low near the water as he races toward the ship.

Plan to drop Thkrull on the deck, then rain arrows down on them.

Whew! Okay,

As Katerina, Keerek, and Heidan move towards the deck of the ship (although Heidan is just there to drop Thkrull), the Denizens push their last captives below the deck of the ship, closing and shuttering trapdoors over the deck entrances.

The three heroes land on the ship, Heidan getting ready to lift off again now that he's dropped Thkrull off. Six of the Denizens on the deck of the ship brandish their disgusting razor-like claws and leap, tumble, and dash to intercept the heroes. Meanwhile, two more of the Denizens quickly manipulate a large and mysterious mechanical gadget on the deck of the ship. As they manipulate it, the organic healing of the back of the ship advances and the purple crackling energy around the edges of the ship intensifies. For what purpose this crackling is happening, no one knows.

Map is up under 'battlemap', though it is currently on view-only. I have color-coded the Denizens for your convenience. Spike and Prazil are currently flying behind the ship - feel free to land anywhere at your convenience as a FRA on your first turn, or do something else (like continue to smash the ship apart) if you like.

Of course. (That said, I don't know if you do initiative by hand each time you roll it, but I recommend the initiative "macro" like I had set up in the campaign link; it tends to be a fairly static number so it's an easy cut and paste whenever combat begins.)

Katerina shouts to her friend, "Kereek! Stop those denizens at the back!!" Then she jumps towards the denizens of Leng that could threaten the party, interposing herself between the bombastic kobold and her enemies. With a swift move she is on top of a massive capstan, waiting for the fools to approach.

Katerina leaps up onto a wooden strut-thing near the group, ready to intercept attackers. As she does so, the Denizens move into action. The two near the prow of the ship maneuver down into the maindeck and then begin to weave magic. As they do so, a burst of multicolored lights overwhelms Thkrull's senses, threatening to fascinate him. The second one's magic creates an opaque wall that separates the group from the remainder of the ship, cutting them off..

Purple's Spell (Spellcraft DC 19):
He used hypnotic pattern as a spell-like ability.

Pink's Spell (Spellcraft DC 19):
He used minor image as a spell-like ability.

One Denizen takes the long way around Katerina, silently gliding into the midst of the group to run into threatening range of Keerek, while three engage Katerina directly. She stabs one of them savagely, and while it clearly begins to heal quickly she can tell she's hurt it pretty badly. Still, these creatures are savage and fearless and lunge in to bite her with their teeth.

Yellow vs. Katerina (Flank): 1d20 + 16 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 16 + 2 = 31 Damage (Sneak Attack): 1d6 + 4 + 5d6 ⇒ (5) + 4 + (2, 3, 6, 3, 4) = 27

Green vs. Katerina: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (19) + 16 = 35 Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

Each of them manages to latch on to her with their teeth, and she can feel them wriggling their disgusting tongues in the wounds that their misshapen jaws create. As their saliva enters her body, she can feel her bones, her muscles, and her body twisting. It is painful, she feels wrong as she is curved and shaped into a grotesque shape.

Dex Drain Yellow: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Dex Drain Red: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Dex Drain Green: 1d6 ⇒ 3

Katerina leaps up onto a strut, taking a readied action to stab the Green Denizen for 44 damage as they move in to attack her. Thkrull must make a DC 19 Will save or become fascinated. If Thkrull succeeds on this save, then he may make an AoO against the Blue Denizen.

Three Denizens attack Katerina, inflicting three hits (lucky rolls, damn!). She may of course parry if she likes, but for each hit she may make a DC 19 Fortitude save to reduce the Dexterity drain per hit down to 1. She otherwise takes 8 points of Dexterity drain and 58 damage.

Keerek and Heidan are up.

While Katerina slaps away the jaws of two of her attackers, Thkrull and Heidan work together to slay the Leng Denizen that had broken ranks and moved in to attack Keerek. With a trio of claw wounds and another trio of arrows protruding from his body, the creature's body melts away, leaving just a pile of cloths. The clatter of something hard hitting the ship's deck accompanies a handful of rubies scattering from under the corpse.

At the same time, Katerina executes a perfect riposte, thrusting the creature's head aside just enough for her to withdraw her Aldori sword and stab through her assailant's neck. It too melts away, leaving only a small pile of rubies.

Keerek spreads his hands and spills out a snaking line of flame that circles around Katerina, engulfing her opponents in flame, before snaking out to hit the Denizen who conjured the opaque wall which encircles the group.

Keerek's spell starts out weak and grows in strength as it travels. The first blast is completely rebuffed by the "Lenglings" natural resistance to magic. The second Lengling manages to dodge aside by most of the blast and the third Lengling is completely engulfed in the fire snake.

Keerek deals 28 damage to the Yellow Lengling and 56 damage to the Purple Lengling.

One of the engineers operating the strange device leaves the device's operation solely to his partner for a moment to stand near the edge of the back deck. He gobbles something incomprehensible, and then draws and hurls a bomb from his belt at Keerek!

...Fortunately for Keerek, this one seems to have been a dud. It strikes the little kobold in the chest, but fails to explode.

Prazil charges into combat against the Leng engineer atop his trusty mount Spike, and the pair shove pointy instruments deep into the engineer's body. Unfortunately, it seems like Spike's horns are unable to penetrate the creature's strangely tough skin, but Prazil is able to spear his lance right through the creature's heart. Or rather, where the Engineer's heart would have been, if these strange creatures had one. The engineer merely peels himself off of Prazil's lance, eyeing him balefully.

Meanwhile, below on the decks, the boards of the ship warp and twist, trying to wrap around the ankles of each of the heroes. Spike and Thkrull are too large for the enterprising boards to get a good grip, but the human heroes all need to react...

Keerek, Katerina, and Heidan need to make a DC 23 Reflex save or become entangled and rooted - unable to move - until you manage to free yourself. Even if you make your save, your square becomes difficult terrain.

The Denizen latches onto Kat's arm with it's impossible teeth and she cries out, yanking her arm back. She can feel the muscles twist, trying to reform into something other. She clenches her fist around her sword and holds on, knowing losing parts of herself means losing all of herself.

Sorry folks. Busy.

As Thkrull moves to interpose himself between Keerek and one of the Denizens, Keerek fires a trio of scorching rays at that very same Denizen. One of the rays flies past the Denizen, scorching a wood panel behind him, while two collide directly with the Denizen, searing him with flame. The Denizen doesn't scream, but Keerek can see that the creature is halfway to death.

Thkrull sinks his teeth into the same Denizen, but can't get a good hold on it.

Meanwhile, Heidan and Prazil help to engage the Denizens moving towards the back of the ship. Only one of Heidan's arrows finds purchase, and Prazil manages to stab his opponent two times.

Spike rams into the device at the back of the ship. It begins to spark, and part of it comes partially out of the deck. Maybe one more hit will destroy it.

The Leng Engineer manning the device pulls a small device from a belt pouch and hurls it at Prazil, taking a step away from the kobold and his triceratops mount. Meanwhile, the land around the ship begins to warp. Even though you know the river is not very wide, if one is to look away from the ship, the shore would seem very far, and the sky, even though it is blue and beautiful, begins to fill with stars.

The engineer curses as his bomb is also a dud!

The second engineer pulls a vial from his belt and drinks it. He vanishes, appearing two feet to his own left.

Katerina wheels around the one remaining Denizen threatening her friends. With a flourish and a deadly slash, she ends the creature's unnatural life - the wound she opens along its back continues to open until there's nothing left to separate. Only a small pile of rubies.

The other two Denizens close on Prazil, who seems to have pushed their buttons by attacking the device on the deck of their ship. Both get into range, and lash out at the kobold's triceratops mount with two claw and two bite attacks.

The Denizens are unable to get a claw in edgewise on the massive triceratops, however.

Still rooted to the ground, Heidan merely switches his focus, sending another rain of arrows toward the denizen as Thkrull savages it, the pair's teamwork from years or working together clearly evident.

This time, though, with his feet rooted by the grasping ship's deck in the wrong position -- the arrows fly wide of their mark, only by a few inches but still enough to draw a blistering curse from the huntsman.
